Lovely quirky decor. Great atmosphere. Superb cocktails. The manger was very friendly and couldn't do enough for us even though we were just having drinks. She went above and beyond to meet our needs and we had a lovely chilled out time. The vibe was very relaxed. ❤️

7 of us visited La Mer Rouge for a business dinner. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. The service was good and the food so tasty. In the group we had tagine, moussaka, sea bass, shawarma and monkfish. All of the dishes were fabulous and full of flavour. Can’t wait to go again.

I love this restaurant! La Mer Rouge's passion for food underpins everything they do. Set in a relaxed dining environment, the food really is the star of the show. That - and the staff's great service - makes for a wonderful evening.

Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff were super attentive and helpful. The food was freshly prepared and delicious and the portions were very generous. We had the moules mariniere, prawn and chorizo starters followed by the seafood tagine and the chicken shish. Excellent. Nothing to criticise and worth the price. We look forward to going again.

Have been promising to visit La Mer Rouge for ages and finally got round to making a booking, and were definitely not disappointed. Like so many others we had a lovely meal, each dish was delicious, the wine complimented each dish and service was good. Can recommend you visit.

Welcome to the worst restaurant i have ever attended. Where do i start... Utterly shocked at the service, Had to pay a £20 deposit for a table for two and when we walked in we were told the only table available was a table for 6! And the excuse was that they had a lot of walk ins. Now, from working in many restaurants it is second nature to know that bookings come first Especially paying a deposit for a shanty cafe rather than a restaurant, were offered a table upstairs and again were sat on a table of four...... To which my view was a staff changing room filled with clothes and shoes and a window that had been borded up with cardboard and all we could hear was the chef slamming plates down as we were next to the kitchen and no body was up there with us, no music, no nothing. As it was a birthday meal we decided to leave and asked for the deposit back which we were told no!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The waiter clearly distressed as we were upset went to speak to the poor excuse of a 'manager'. As it was so quiet upstairs we could hear the WHOLE conversation which went along the lines of "fu##ing hell they can sit downstairs or upstairs its up to them its not my problem and we are not given the deposit back its their choice" HOW RUDE! I explained we heard the whole thing and we were leaving then were given a complimentary of a Prosecco and a glass of red wine (which still amounted to less than the deposit). this in my eyes is a nice try but i didn't want to stay in that foul place any longer. I was dressed up for a beautiful place and nice food however the downstairs lights were partially broken, The window upstairs was boarded up, The ugly staff room was on display to customers and The "manager" was vile and for that we lost £20, well i hope you make use of that and buy yourself some manners. So please anyone that is planning to go there, dont.

A lucky find after a day-out exploring Shrewsbury. The food was authentic and delicious and the service was above and beyond excellent.

Went for a meal on Sunday evening. The place wasn’t particularly busy but still had good atmosphere. The menu had range of dishes. After placing our order we received complimentary bread with humous which we thought was amazing gesture. The waiter who served us was extremely polite and professional. The food was so so so delicious that the words cannot describe. We definitely recommend this delicious place.

Absolutely outstanding!!! The best meal we have ever had out in Shrewsbury. Piping hot, fresh, delicious sea food packed with flavour. Could not recommend this lovely place more.

The food- a tagine and a seafood curry were both excellent, the dips great and chips fantastic. Where it fell down was the application of tax on top of the listed price. Presumably they’ve kept the base price the same but then added 12.5% (?) to that price. If I was buying some 4x2 at Travis Perkins I could understand it but what other restaurant adds a partial element of VAT to the base price? Is it just added to hot items or all items? Not sure on the HMRC position on this. It feels dishonest and a form of deception. We enjoyed the food and have been three times since they moved from the old premises, but when we last looked for somewhere to eat in Shrewsbury a few weeks ago I deliberately looked for somewhere else that has more transparent pricing.

We met some friends at La Mer Rouge recently and the food was excellent. The main course in particular, monk fish with chorizo, was really very special. I had choc brownie desert - also good. Tan served us and he was the best waiter that I have had in a restaurant in a very long time. He was the star of the show, the icing on the cake. They should really look after him, he's great.

We attended La Mer Rouge recently. Welcome was fine and seated downstairs. Food was very tasty and fulfilling, however, service was okay and all food and drink prices do not include VAT so receiving the bill was a surprise. The menu on the main door does not state VAT is not included. This made for an expensive dinner for two people (£120 for a starter and main each with a bottle of wine).

From the warm welcome to the wonderful food there is nothing not to look about this restaurant. The menu is a revealing insight into Egyptian cuisine. My wife had the halibut with prawns and calamari which was a perfect combination of spices and flavours. I had the Cairo style filet of beef kebab, the portions are generous. Well worth visiting and enjoying.
