Used to love this place, went twice a week for over a year! Went the this week and was appalled by the change, not only did the menu have 4 mains on it they offered us table bread ( tiny pieces of a French’ stick) twice and charged me £10 for it and then £10 service charge Won’t be going back

We were so pleased to discover La Familia is now open at lunchtime on a Saturday! We have not been for years as can no longer eat out in the evenings often, and remember the place fondly. We popped in for a casual lunch and enjoyed some sizzling prawns, tortilla, and paella. Everything was perfect. A dessert of churros and crème catalana was a wonderful way to finish the meal. We will definitely be back!

We’d been looking to try this restaurant for some time & it had managed to elude us for ages until we booked with 2 other couples in mid December 23. When we arrived, were quite surprised how empty the place was. We ordered some Tapas dishes (approximately 5 between a couple). My wife had halloumi slices with 4 shaved so thin pieces, would hardly fill a couple of crackers. I’d ordered Gambas pil pil (which I’d eaten a few years ago on the Costa del Sol - beautiful there). What came to the table was an unappealing oily dish with 5 anaemic looking prawns with about 3 slices of red chillies. It tasted completely bland & boring as did the potatas bravas. We had ordered a side of sweet potato fries which looked like shrivelled worms. Our friends seemed to find the same experience. 3 of them shared a bottle of white wine & the other 3 had one beer each. I’d asked for ice cream with very little toffee sauce which came smothered. The only girl waiting our table was pleasant enough but the bill came up at approximately £80 per couple inc. about £21 service charge which was far too expensive for the low quality of food received. One of the other couple’s husband remarked on our exit that he wouldn’t return, which my wife & I mirrored. I think I can now see why the restaurant was so quiet, but on the run up to Xmas?! Sorry La Familia but we won’t be back! Poor show!

Booked a social club outing with work for 30 people, food and service was excellent with a great space to socialise in. Isabela was amazing and looked after us all, cannot recommend enough!

I don't do many reviews but we had the best Tapas. Isabella really looked after us. I cannot speak more highly about the food and staff. I can't wait to go back

When I found a hair in my food the manager said "we'll take the service off the bill that's all we can do" very poor customer service

A really lovely restaurant. I had a catch-up with a friend here last night and we really enjoyed our evening. The food was very tasty, except for the tortilla, and the service was exceptional. We will be coming back.

From the minute Maria welcomes you at the door you are guaranteed a good evening. The food truly amazing as was our waiter and other staff. Thank you all for making our daughters birthday so special. There is also a large car park at the rear

Nice atmosphere, looks very clean, food was good and staff were polite, it was Saturday night so main course took a little while to arrive but was good, only had house wine but it was definitely good. Think prices about right for the food and service and no complaints from me!

Pre-order a paella, which was served after 2 minutes that we stepped in the restaurant, the rice was way overcooked and the fish was tasteless, we ordered a jug of sangria which was extremely light with lots of ice and no taste a all! We though to order a tortilla which was brought to our table after probably 2 minutes we have ordered. It was evident that the food was pre-cooked and they are just heating up everything and bring it to the table. We were asked for times if we had finish to eat at which point we decided to leave. Avoid this restaurant it is too expensive and not welcoming at all!!!

Great atmosphere. A very good menu and selection of Spanish food. The service is friendly and attentive.

This place is great really love the food here. They make a mean Mojito and I would strongly recommend the boar skewers. It's not cheap but generally worth the price imo.

We have visited here before and every time has been excellent. Tonight was no different, good flavoursome food along with excellent service. A lovely evening all round.

We went on a Saturday night and it was busy, but the service was still excellent. Food was delicious (we did tapas) and a nice selection of drinks. (For tapas we shared 6 dishes between 2 people and we found it was the perfect amount and left just enough room for dessert!) Would recommend and will be visiting again myself.

Amazing Spanish Restaurant in Ewell village. Service was great, food delicious I felt like I was in Spain. I will definitely be back.

Thank you for your brilliant service! ***** My previous review: Well deserved 5 stars for this lovely restaurant! We came across La Familia by chance while looking for a place to dine in style. Since then we've been there twice and we shall definitely go there again. It is a well located cosy restaurant. Walk in and you will be taken away to sunny Spain 🇪🇸. Then you'll have a "hard" decision time to choose what to order since there is a very wide selection of Spanish starters, mains and deserts. The dishes are well explained in English and they come in generous portions which are very tasty. It is clean, and it gives you the mixed feeling of being in a luxury restaurant (with its snow-white immaculate clean and starched table cloths, the elegant crockery, the standard of cooking and the service) and the intimacy of a family run restaurant (because of the friendly staff, and because they remember their customers). Thank you, La Familia!

It has always been a good restaurant to go to. My wife and I have been here a few times for date night. Great food. Great atmosphere and really good service. Looking forward to going back again soon.

totally overpriced 1 starter 2 mains and a bottle of wine which would cost approx £7 in a supermarket the vegetables was disgusting pre cooked then heated back up price for this £115 So I don't think I will be returning

Just bad meal at la familia with four of our good friends !!!! What a meal absolutely fantastic from start to finish ? Tapas to start with with various others dishes ordered for mains paella was superb !! The staff and owner very attentive and we can’t wait to go back please try this little gem in Ewell/Epsom

Have just had the very best of Christmas lunches here after some years searching for a restaurant with good food and brilliant staff.

Lovely food, friendly staff, BUT I've only given 3 stars because behind all that I felt that actually it was all really about the money rather than genuinely wanting to make our night out great. Why? We ordered a bottle of wine. They said they didn't have it (fair enough) but rather that offer an equivalent alternative, offered us a significantly more expensive bottle without attempting to inform us. Of this. Lovely food guys and I will be back, but very wary of your integrity.

Very nice food (although not very Spanish). I was in a group of 8 and the service was good. We were in a private room and for a Wednesday the restaurant was packed.

We had a fantastic meal and the ambiance was wonderful. There was a couple of niggles such as some of the staff not knowing what cocktails and spirts were available, but that was soon rectified by the owner. Food was fab throughout.

Excellent food & service, celebrated my aunts birthday we were 11 & had a fabulous time, my monkfish was amazing, will definitely be going back, even tho very busy, we got a fantastic service throughout the evening

INCREDIBLE food here, I mean just incredible. I eat out frequently but this was possibly the best quality steak I’ve had in a long time. The seafood starter was excellent, the wine was very nice and the service was very friendly. I can’t wait to go back.

We’ve been before but this is the first time since Covid. It was ok the food was nice enough but the prices have really gone up for 3 courses with no alcohol we paid nearly £100 for two of us. Although the food was nice I don’t think it was worth that much I know business’s need to recoup money but it’s really put me off going back. Also our glasses had lipstick marks and my fork was dirty. Overall the restaurant looked very clean though.

Excellent as usual, never disappoints

We have visited in the past and really enjoyed the food. However when 5 of us visited on Saturday things had taken a definite turn for the worse. Instead of being served 'our unique selection of accompaniments and garnishes' with the mains, we were each given a small plate of thin fries with dull bit of salad. THIS IS NOT WHAT IT SAID ON THE MENU, LA FAMILIA. And to top it all the manageress was very rude when calmly tried to point this out to her. We won't be going again.

Best tapas great service lovely food

I took my mum out to celebrate what would of been her & my Dads 53rd wedding anniversary. Mum started off in fully Spanish style with a large glass of sangaria. I had a spicy Bloody Mary... both good. We had traditional tapas to get us in the mood, then had a seafood paella. Didn’t look quite as per picture above, but tasted good all the same. The staff were very polite, professional & good humoured all night. The only spoiler was a young child who was allowed, by its parent, to scream with a high pitch. Needless to say, the atmosphere was much pleasanter when that party left the restaurant after 30 minutes of us being in there.

Went to the restaurant for the first time last night. Food excellent, staff and service excellent but we had music speakers right by our table and people were talking very loud to get over the noise of the music. Asked for the music to be turned down and it helped for a while but it was turned back up again. Could not have a conversation or hear the waiters. Shame

Spanish, Galician & Portuguese all I'm one, the plates come in nice and full, service excellence.

Tapas were delicious. House white wine was lovely. Churros for dessert were great. Really nice meal.

The Restaurant Manager Maria is always very accommodating and helpful. In my experience, over the last 5 years, the choice and quality of the food and service has always very been good here. I would definitely recommend and visit again.

Four of us went back to La Fam on Saturday evening to celebrate their re-opening... it's the one place we all REALLY missed during lockdown, so we expected the evening to be good, but Marie and the team have surpassed themselves to create a 'socially-distanced' environment that manages to be safe whilst still creating an atmosphere of intimacy and effortless charm. The new-style service is subtly altered, but still as genuine and attentive as always... and the food!! My godfathers, I can't remember eating a better meal there... we revisited old favourites (the chuletta chops, the boar skewers, the sea bass) along with a selection of tapas for starters, and it was exquisite. Our next visit will be to take friends of ours who are currently 'twitchy' about going back out into the words, just to show them how post-Covid dining really CAN be done with safety, style and savour all uncompromised! Make this place top of your list for your next culinary outing - you won't be disappointed!

Really good atmosphere, really friendly staff and great food.

With such depressing news around, decided to treat ourselves to a mid-week lunch at La Familia. We both had the special starter,Prawns wrapped in Serrano ham which was superb. My wife had a main of Lamb Cutlets, I had the Calf's Liver. Beautifully cooked and very generous portions! Usual excellent service at this local gem. Would recommend very highly.

From the telephone call to see if a table was available, to the last mouthful was a very pleasant experience. Friendly over the phone. Very friendly while professional in the restaurant, which immediately made you feel at ease. The food was beautifully presented, extremely tasty & varied. I would highly recommend the meatballs & sardines tapas. The Bloody Mary was pretty spot on too!! Would definitely be going back soon & would highly recommend it to anyone who loves the taste of tapas Thank you.

Wow ! Guys you never fail! We choose to come to la familia on special occasions and we like to go all out and it is quite expensive but your paying for quality and amazing service.Nothing is ever to much and the food is always such an experience! This place is the best!

We were invited here with friends and were a little concerned about the mixed reviews, but on the evening we were there, we were pleasantly surprised. Although the menu noted that tapas would not be available during December, there were some tapas dishes to chose from and we had a selection - which were all very good. I shared a paella with my husband and it was delicious. Everyone else in the group had different meals and they were all very enjoyable. We couldn't make up our minds about dessert, so the staff brought four different ones and 8 spoons, so we could all try them. I cannot comment on the cost as we were not paying the bill - but our friends have been there before and we are all likely to return another time. We went early in the evening and on the whole the staff were pleasant and helpful, even as the restaurant filled up later.

Nice food. Have visited many times over the years. Unfortunately it didn’t seem like the staff wanted to be working in between Xmas & new year. The lady who was working came across rude. We were a large party and spending a lot of money which we could have taken elsewhere. Service is really important and I can’t say I’d return purely on the service. Such a shame.

We booked well in advance for dinner, as we love the experience and food.Sadly, we didnt anticipate the noise from the xmas parties/groups of women w/c 9/12. The restaurant turned the music up so loud at one point whilst we were still eating and 'trying' to talk, that it became unbearable. Otherwise it's a great place with great food.

We had been meaning to go here for a while as it had been recommended. Friday night was busy, but we managed to get a table. I ordered a seafood salad for starter, it was so cold, like it had been taken out of the freezer but not left to get to room temperature, so had to send it back. My husband order scallops, quite pricey, expected a nice few big scallops and was disappointed that he had 3 small scallops. We shared a Paella for main course that was nothing special, a bit too greasy for my liking. Will not be going back again!

I've only managed to visit a few times for diner, and would like to have the opportunity to make it there more often. Each time the service has been equally good regardless of how busy (and it usually is) it is. Sensible to make a reservation in advance. Food has always been very good. I will be visiting again sometime, possibly not as soon as I would like, but something's are worth the wait.

Went to La Familia last night (1 November) with friends for Halloween Special. There was an excellent choice on the set menu, well presented and perfectly cooked. The staff were friendly and efficient, and there was live music. Great evening

Four of us went for lunch today, I had the calf liver( Higado) as a tapa and them the mains I found the service been very the food was very tasty, as we were invited I couldn't comment on the cost of the meal but it was worth every penny or pound!

Went tonight with my son we ordered tapas The prawns cane out looking anemic no garlic and definitely not sizzling like they are ment to be sent them back and once again they came back without any taste they are ment to be made with lots of garlic white wine and chilli i am spanish so I love this dish we did not eat it , secondly the papas bravas where hardly brown they were white and again these are ment to be fried in olive oil and crisp around the edges VERY poor dinner when we were asked was everything okay I said no and nothing was said we paid the £50 bill and left never to return!!!!!!!

We always enjoy the food at La Familia it is excellent. The only thing that annoyed my husband and I when we went for lunch about 1pm in the week, we were the only ones in the restaurant at that time, and we had continuous banging from the back of the restaurant from the time we had the main course and dessert. No one came to apologise for the disturbance or asked us if we enjoyed the meal. As soon as we had finished the banging stopped when other customers came in. It was really disappointing, glad we hadn't taken friends there.Not in too much of a hurry to go again.

Good quality but a tad on the expensive(particularly the wine) so I do not go as much as i otherwise would. There is a set (and more value menu) on some days but check out when,

Went on Friday 13th September for my daughter's birthday. The staff were excellent. Made sure we had a square table for 9 people and looked after us all evening. We all enjoyed the food, dekicious. Would highly recommend.

There isn't a reason not to like this. Good food, good menu, good service and just the right level of ambience (busy but so you can't have a conversation). Always fairly busy for a reason. Keep up the good work.

We celebrated my parents Diamond Wedding Anniversary on Friday night. The food and the service was excellent. Maria, the owner went to great lengths to make sure the evening was extra special for them.She played ‘ Congratulations’ as the cake was bought in ( our own cake) At our request she kindly played The Anniversary Waltz for them to dance to! Thank you for a wonderful evening.

We were a party of 4 on a Friday night. We arrived at 7.30pm for dinner and the place was almost full, the empty tables did fill soon after our arrival, this speaks for itself. The service was quick and friendly and our drinks order was soon served. They had a good choice of dishes, but a word of warning, unless you are very hungry, or have a big appetite, avoid having a starter as the main dishes are very large, with huge portions of vegetable. we did have starter and a main course each Everything was cooked perfectly including the vegetables, it was all very tasty. The bill, including drinks was about £30 a head and good value for money. We needed a walk after our meal to let our dinner go down. Great atmosphere, great food and good service, we will be going back again soon.

Been here with work twice the food is good and the portion size is excellent. Last time I was hear I had the meat skewers medium well.

We had our first date here, my husband proposed to me here and we had our wedding lunch, which they stayed open late for us, my Nan and grandad had their 70th wedding anniversary here and last night we visited for a meal. Simply the best food in the area, the chef is amazing and made up a different meal on request. Such a warm atmosphere, definitely worth a visit, you will return without a doubt!

First time round I was able to give a very favourable review. We have just been back, this time as part of a threesome, and I'm pleased to day that it was every bit as good. This is a stylish restaurant which was fairly busy,given it was mid week. Service was nevertheless attentive.

I used to LOVE the food here. My husband and I were not too keen on the main dishes but would order lots and lots of tapas. The dishes were fresh, tasted amazing and for the price you got reasonable size dishes. However, after not visiting for a while and my husband booking the restaurant for my 40th birthday meal (knowing it was once my favourite food), we were deeply disappointed by the lack of atmosphere, smaller dishes (at the same price) and the taste of the food was mediocre. I was so looking forward to going there as well but won’t be going back in a hurry. Despite going there many times, you’d expect staff to recognise us and be friendly but we got treated as just a number, the staff were not that attentive and even when told we were there for a birthday the waiter just shrugged (he speaks perfect English by the way so understood us). Such a shame!!

Second year of Valentine's night and again great time had. It's a lovely Spanish restaurant very warm and welcoming. Well worth a visit at any time.

We stopped in one evening after returning from a trip in Europe - no food in the fridge.

I read the reviews and all seemed good. I looked forward to a very pleasant evening with my family eating good food in a warm and comfortable restaurant. Instead we got a freezing restaurant with loud music and stale bread rolls, a starter and one drink over a 2 hour period. When we asked how long until the main courses were served and were told that they couldn’t tell us as it was all freshly made. I guess they were still growing the potatoes.My advice to all would be clients: if you arrive on time and are walked through to the back of the restaurant, don’t go, get out whilst you still have a chance to go somewhere else.

Booked a table for 7 people at 8.30pm on Saturday evening and arrived on time to be walked through the entire restaurant, past the loos, to a freezing cold "back room" with 4 tables. Not enough menus to go round so had one per couple to share. Waited ages for our drinks orders to be taken and then waited ages for the starters. By 10pm we still had no main course and hadn't been offered any more drinks and were getting colder and colder at which point they decided to turn the (disco) music up so loud we had to ask for it to be turned down. By now there was nobody else left in the freezing back room apart from us so the atmosphere was non-existent. We asked when we could expect our main courses to arrive and kept be told they were "very busy". In the end, we said we may have to leave if we didn't get our dinner soon to which the reply was "ok then"!! We left. We won't be back. I'm sure everyone else in the main restaurant had a fabulous evening in the warm and with food but it left us cold.

Good food, friendly staff but slow service. Ordered drinks 4 times, had to ask where they were 4 times. Ordered tap water, brought 2 bottles of water at £4 each 🤔🤔 very cheeky

Great Spanish restaurant, great food, service and reasonably priced. Very good selection on menu to suit all. Good for families, couples and corporate entertainment. Well located in Swell village.

What an amazing night of food and entertainment. Maria and her team really know how to throw a great party.

Xmas (Group) dinner. The arrangements were made for us and a group of 13 attended just prior to Xmas. Not the sort of 'evening out' we would normally consider as it included a 'tribute artist' which is certainly not our preference when it comes to an evening out with friends. The food was excellent in every way possible - quality & quantity; service was as good as the food. The entertainment sadly was, as we had expected, not to our liking, although the other diners certainly did appear to really enjoy it. It certainly did not spoil our evening. Will very certainly go back one evening soon - just the two of this time - when there is no 'impersonator' on the agenda.

Spanish Theme restaurant which has a varied menu to suit everyone. The owner and all staff are all very conscientious and gave us a warm welcome which we very much appreciated. Many Thanks for making this meal a memorable one for my parents. We highly recommend this restaurant .We will be back soon

Enjoyable return for a birthday dinner, excellent food with friendly and attentive service but it was a bit noisy, the lobster and mixed fish grill was very good. A good selection and choice on the menu with special's available on the night.
