La Bodega Negra in City of London, Westminster

An excellent restaurant with a great vibe, even though extremely busy it didn’t compromise the excellent service and attentive nature of our servers. To top it all off the food was fresh & full of flavour, so If you’re looking for a , quirky dining experience in London with an excellent vibe I would highly recommend!

A special restaurant in the basement vault of the building. Small, tasty dishes, a little expensive for the quantity, but very good. A large selection of tequila and mezcal and corresponding cocktails. Don't be afraid to enter, the front door suggests a strip club but it's really the restaurant. The service was very good, we were served very quickly and they were also flexible.

Boyfriend surprised me with a romantic birthday dinner at this divine restaurant. It’s hard to find good Mexican places but the food was fresh, well prepared and super tasty. We also enjoyed the general quirky vibe of the place. We recommend 5-6 plates (one or two larger main options) between two people if you’re hungry but want to leave room for dessert. The tequila selection is extensive… Good luck 😊

Absolutely blown away by a chance drop in for my husband's milestone birthday. Kostas and Wady made our multiple trips so welcoming and fun, as well as providing top tier drinks and food. Highly highly recommended.

Such a lovely date night spot. Would highly recommend the guacamole, fish tacos and lamb barbacoa. The lamb especially was so tender and melt in the mouth. There’s a lot of tequila based cocktails, so we let our server choose a few for us and they were fantastic.

The waitress with glasses and long nails was super rude. Never coming back here.

Food & drinks were very nice & tasty. Unfortunately the main staff member who was looking after us was clueless. She was unhelpful with any questions we had. She forgot to process some of the items we wanted. It was just bad.

This has long been one of my favourite spots. Relaxed and friendly with superb food and cocktails. Perfect for tacos and a frozen margarita or two (get a jug) with friends.

We visited as part of a group for a birthday recently, and the experience was fine - but that’s all it was. The restaurant itself is really fun - the outside is quirky, with all seating downstairs. The atmosphere is good, it’s a dark restaurant with a lot of candles which sets the mood nicely. The menu isn’t extensive but there’s plenty of choice. I do think it’s quite overpriced for what it is - nachos and guacamole to start was £10 and it wasn’t anything special. We had a variety of things as a table - tacos, quesadillas, lamb barbacoa, chicken, steak. Portions were quite small for the price in my opinion, but they were fine. The service wasn’t fantastic - we ordered wine which was served and then taken to be cooled, but we then weren’t offered any more and we had to get up and get our bottles ourselves! Food arrived all at different times, little explanation as to what food was arriving so we had to work out who’s was who. It’s definitely an “instagram” restaurant, with the interiors, but you pay a premium for it for sure!

The place looks amazing, very good designar the entrance and downstairs. the people at the entrance super nice and polite but the bartenders needs some training on how to treat customers. Also the place is suuuuper expensive for what it is! The drinks are just Ok, nothing espectacular but the prices are in the sky. Not very good relation between quality and prices. Excellent atmosphere, wonderful service and great main dishes and small plates. The tacos are not the best but the ox cheek, seabass ceviche and cheesecake are all delicious. Excellent drinks menu too, the mezcal is 🔥🔥🔥

Went here for a last minute dinner with friends and couldn’t have had a better experience in terms of food and service. It was not too busy (which I liked for a Sunday). We were greeted by a very welcoming lady called Gunda who took us to the table and recommended dishes and answered to all our questions. Recommended!

The food was good but a bit pricey for Mexican. Didn’t appreciate being forced to pay a 15%service charge, we aren’t in the U.S

Perfect evening and amazing food!

Fabulous cocktails (jalapeno margarita was great), great food (really enjoyed the ceviche, fried squid, chicken tacos & quesadilla, spicy sauce couldve been spicier but staff topped it up for me with fresh chillies which was great), fun atmosphere and amazing staff (very attentive, engaged with us and were funny). All in all - fun experience and would go back.

Just brilliant, fun, great food and cocktails! We went early for a pre theatre dinner. From the moment you walk in the door (you are in for a treat even getting inside) this place has a great atmosphere. Service was excellent and the food and cocktails are spot on. The food is very authentic and packed with flavour.

Chicken tacos were delicious, wish we had ordered more. The decor and ambience are very pleasant. Service very quick and attentive. Food was a little pricey but not over the top. Would definitely recommend.

Nice ambiance and decent cocktails but the quality and taste of the meals was much less than I would expect for that price point. They also add a 15% service charge on top of the meal price which made everything that much more expensive

Disappointing experience, behind the facade of a 1970’s Adult shop the actual product doesn’t live up to expectations. The restaurant is extremely dark making it difficult to read. Also the layout and description is confusing and could do with detail of what’s a main or starter. It was extremely busy and at times the staff struggled to cope. I only really see what I had eaten when I reviewed my photos the following day

Terrible ‘couldn’t be bothered’ service and average food. When we arrived we couldn’t get anyone’s attention to order. When we did we asked if we could order the food and drinks at the same time as we all had trains to catch. The waiter just shrugged and said the food comes when it comes. The food did indeed take a while to come but worse than that they didn’t bring one of our friend’s meals. We chased and chased, no apology or interest. It eventually arrived after the rest of us had finished and we then only had about 15 mins before we had to leave. Paid the service charge as we’d had a lovely day together and didn’t want an argument with a waiter to be the end of it. No way was it deserved though. On the plus side the drinks were good!

It's a real shame as this place with change of staff can be an amazing place! I get better treatment at the food vendor for same food quality for £10 😅 The price is quite high, and small sharing plates. We had someone on the table who was pregnant, and they were huffy and annoyed to offer something without raw fish (it wasn't clear on the menu it would be raw). I felt awful of how they treated her. They were questioning where the person who we had who was gluten and lactose intolerant, although I called up in the morning and explained they would no longer be there. Once they take the money they will throw you off the table. So be sure to pay at the end of your two hour slot. The food is served and plates will be taken before you finish eating if you haven't wolfed your food down on time so be sure to only go if you are a fast eater. Our waitress insisted that the next table had been at the venue and waited and made us leave 15 minutes early. They had a very bad attitude but I believe it's most likely greedy management who have forced them to be this way. We still managed to have a nice time but had to do some seat changes to speak to each other as it was very loud music but great fun. Luckily the food was good although tiny tiny portions. Quality was not amazing for the price point.

Showing you the 1 tortilla that comes with your £75 dinner. A second one would have broke the restaurants budget - cost of living crisis right!?!?! Come here for vibes but don’t expect good food or the ability to talk to your dinner companion.

We went for a birthday event with a group of 9. We had to have the set menu which was really nice, I loved the vegan option - the artichoke hearts were amazing and was so nice to have something different !! The staff were very friendly and attentive the whole time. The only thing I felt could improve was that the music was slightly too loud so we couldn't have a conversation.

Overall an interesting experience: the food was good and the staff was attentive. However, at some point we saw not one but three mice scurrying around the tables, right where people were dining. Extremely off-putting and really makes me question the levels of hygiene in this restaurant. When we mentioned this to a member of the staff, they said they’d mention it to the manager but never came back to us. Poor response on a pretty serious issue. I’d gladly come back to la bodega negra but not if it means sharing the space with rodents that seems to be completely normal for the service staff.

- I went to the bar for some drinks, but unfortunately, the bartenders had such bad humor, especially one of them. - 😔 I was hoping to find Mexican bartenders, but there weren't any. - 🍸 I ordered a Paloma, and it seemed like the bartender didn't quite grasp how a real Paloma is made. They added sugar, making it sooooo sweet I could barely drink it. I even asked for some sparkling water, but unfortunately, it never arrived. The music is VERY GOOD 👍🏼 good job. Concept and decoration good Mexican style.

Wow What an amazing venue. From the exciting neon peep show shopfront to the sultry lit stairways leading down to candlelit wine cellars decorated amazingly. Such a vibe The staff were friendly and approachable and attentive and all looked amazing! The food was unreal. Special shout-out to the chicken and pork belly tacos The tequila flight was a special add on and was really interesting tasting 3 unique tequilas along with our meal The music was brilliant and really added to the vibe and setting Highly recommend

Had a great first visit here. I asked for a Tommy’s Margarita with Reposado tequila (which wasn’t on the menu) and they still made it for me. Food was incredible and staff were all very attentive. Will definitely be back

Our second visit to this restaurant, there will not be a third! Obviously the place was busy on Saturday evening but there seemed to be quite a few staff. Unfortunately they seemed to spend most of their time standing around chatting and totally avoiding looking over at the tables! It took ages to order drinks and when the food order was eventually taken, the waiter stopped after a moment and left to get a pen and paper as he couldn’t remember everything for a table of four! The food was very good indeed, but the restaurant is totally let down by its staff. And finally, the toilet cubicles are dark, really dark. I mean bring a torch! Is there any need for this? Just put in proper lightbulbs! For this and the really woeful service, we will never eat here again.

The group all commented on how fantastic the ambience was both outside and inside the restaurant. It has a real speakeasy feel to everything. The food was fantastic and many of the group have commented that they will definitely go back. Thank you for an amazing time and I suspect that the restaurant will be a topic of conversation for many weeks in both Europe and the USA from my guests.

Such mediocre service and food, am being generous with 2 stars, over cooked everything it’s like a canteen, waited 45 mins for drinks, wine came 20 mins into our mains and they didn’t have wine glasses as they were being washed, absolute joke when they added service of £75 I had to explain why I would pay £25 at a push, SORT YOURSELVES OUT

Atmosphere and setting was fun but the food was average and very overpriced for what it was. The tacos were tasty, but the quesadilla wasn’t great and it was absolutely dripping in oil.

The entrance to this establishment is quite nice and „special“. The restaurant is located downstairs. The interior and decorations are quite lovely. However, it must be noted that there is a considerable amount of noise from both the patrons and the music. As for the cuisine, it is satisfactory, but not exceptional. It is important to mention that this venue is not particularly suited for a formal dinner, but rather serves as a place for socializing, enjoying drinks, and indulging in light bites while celebrating.

The food was great!! The mole chicken didn’t have Mexican hints but the rest was really good and fresh. We needed to call the waiters for service and didn’t get a full and good service where the waiter suggests and askes. Our table wasn’t cleaned during our stay. But, overall the atmosphere was very nice, good music and food and nice people! Recommend

Cool place to visit if you can find the right entrance! Very good customer service, playful sexy vibe (server costumes and low lighting) good food & drinks. Prices seemed ok/reasonable for London prices (don't go out there much). I guess cleanliness could have been better. We sat down at a rather sticky table, which really stopped me from giving the place 5*s. Musica little loud. Do visit especially if you're trying to show you're in the know! I would go again

Het personeel heeft verstand van zaken en kan je goed adviseren als je bij het bestellen behoefte hebt aan inspiratie. Datzelfde personeel is overigens zeer vriendelijk en maakt ook graag een praatje. Zo kom je er nog eens achter dat hier ooit ene Dua Lipa heeft gewerkt, grappig feitje om te leren. Ze werkt er overigens niet meer, blijkbaar is ze aardig succesvol met haar andere baan. Samenvattend: ✔️ Heerlijke Mexicaanse specialiteiten ✔️ Sfeervolle bar om een lekker drankje te doen ✔️ Enorm vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel ✔️ Niet de goedkoopste, maar kwaliteit mag geld kosten Wij komen hier zeker weer terug!

What a fabulous place - recommended by friends. Just a short walk from Leicester Square tube station, I was looking forward to surprising hubby as he wouldn’t have guessed from the entrance he was going to eat at a Mexican tapas restaurant. From the very start at the entrance staff were pleasant and welcoming especially the chap who I phoned to say we might be a little late. Once we had looked at the menu and made our choices we checked with the waitress that the dishes we had ordered would be sufficient for two people. Oh, the flavour! Stunningly simple but delightfully tasty with a good kick of heat and spice…and the Toy Boy cocktails weren’t too bad either! We will definitely be back on our next trip to London

overpriced for the quality of food

Horrible management team . Lost our umbrella which was a memorabilia from Denmark, even after us repeatedly telling the lady it was expensive and to please keep it on the cloak room . The GM was least bothered , and said he would check the CCTV and email us. It’s been three days , i have not heard from him. I have also emailed him and he has ignored completely. The restaurant itself is overpriced and like a sauna underground with no ventilation what so ever. Can’t believe customer service like this exists in such places in central . Spoiling the name of London city.

Disappointing experience unfortunately. Enjoyed the ambience and vibe but the menu is limited and lacking in quality both for food and drinks. The pork tacos and iberico pork were highlights but the Mezcalita was middling at best and the rest of the menu was decidedly unexciting for what it cost. £275 for 4 people with not a lot of booze consumed is pretty steep without being wowed by anything. Service was good to begin with but gradually became less attentive and eventually we waited an irritatingly long time for the bill which is a personal bugbear. Bit of a shame really because the place has a good feel to it.

We had a fantastic experience having our anniversary dinner at La Bodega Negra. Delicious, authentic and decently priced Mexican food can be hard to come by in London but we feel that this restaurant smashed it - the food was so impressive and the service is really speedy. The fish tacos are my personal favourite!

Cramped and hot. Table for three was a table for two, despite what they protest. It was just cramped for three average sized adults. Table booked for 7, and reminded to leave at 8.45 after two courses. The food was okay, it was just the whole trying to squeeze as many people as possible in a hot basement thing that was not great.

Delicious food from the set menu, and great service. Despite initially being worried by the small portion of the starter, I was left feeling full by the end of it. I had the vegan option which was delicious. The only downside I would say would be the price, it's quite expensive for something you could quite easily find elsewhere. As well as this there's a 15% service charge on large groups, so while we were already spending £700+ on the food and drinks, the service charge bumped it up to over £850.

Bang average food for expensive prices. Paying for the novelty of the restaurant and the ambience, rather than the food itself. Service was so rushed, trying to pick up my plate whilst there was still good on there. You can get better tacos at Market Halls, Wahaca and Taco Queen if you’re looking. The only redeeming feature were the cocktails.

Visited for dinner on 09/08 and was disappointed by the experience. The atmosphere felt lackluster compared to other Soho establishments. Our main dish never arrived, and when it came time to pay, it didn't seem like it had even been prepared. To add to the frustration, there was a "cafe service charge" on our bill. Upon inquiry, we learned it was a "discretionary" charge, though it felt anything but discretionary. For the level of service we received, this charge felt unwarranted. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant.

Great food, service and atmosphere. People watching was an added bonus! This is one that I will be coming back to when in London. Really want to get the sex shop basement booking the next time !

Interesting place. Front is clad with peep show neon signs and reception area covered in old playboy magazine covers. Definitely an adult restaurant. Seating is all downstairs in a dungeon type atmosphere. Tequila menu was amazing! If you love tequila or mezcal you will love this place. The menu is small bit we ordered pretty much everything and it was very very good. The chicken tacos were to die for! Highly recommend them and the gauc! Tuna app was amazing as well.

Great food and really fun. I came here for a friends birthday and we had the sharing menu, everything was delicious and the amount of food was perfect. The drinks were also amazing I would recommend the spicy margaritas and the acapulco trip cocktails. The service was great and they happily accommodated all of our dietary requirements. The place turns into a club later on, it’s pretty small but the DJ is always really good.

Ci siamo stati ieri sera, esperienza abbastanza spiacevole purtroppo. Oltre alla confusione per accedere alla struttura che non comprendo, vari problemi a trovare la prenotazione (non cancellabile altrimenti scatta pure la penale), il locale era buio pesto dovevamo usare le torce per vedere il menù. Aldilá di queste premesse poi le porzioni sono ridicole a prezzi esorbitanti, ti danno l'acqua senza chiedere con un refill obbligatorio (abbiamo pagato due bottiglie lasciando la seconda intatta). Senza parlare del chaos estremo che non permette di goderti assolutamente la serata nonostante la location fosse un minimo interessante Non ci tornerò e lo sconsiglio

Such a fun night out! It’s super packed over the weekend if you’re just going for drinks (and you’re not able to make a reservation to get in for drinks). You can make a reservation for dinner. A great vibe and wonderful atmosphere.

The food here is fabulous Mexican tapas style food. It's too bad the service is so poor as it ruined our experience. We waited over ten minutes after being seated for anyone to talk to us and when we finally got served they just asked us if we wanted water and we had to tell them we wanted to order drinks and food. We also got kicked out of our table after the alloted slot but because the service was so slow we weren't really finished.

Surprising entrance and good food!

The food was delicous (we had the tacos), we came in quiete late so it wasnt very busy and the staff was very attentive :) the restaurant is also very instagramworthy with great music!

I went yesterday to la bodega negra,everything was amazing. The food was delicious,our Spanish waitress was really nice and helpful. You must try the shrimp and fish tacos they are amazing.Average of 60-70£ per person (no too bad)you can even spend less of course. We will come back soon.

Stone walls meant it was quite loud next to a large group so we left early as we were struggling to hear each other. Tequila tasting could do with some printed tasting notes/labelling. Cocktails were tasty, food was tasty.

La comida está muy buena, en pleno centro de Londres, hay una DJ que tiene musica puesta todo el tiempo. La comida nos encanto únicamente los platos poco exactos.

Sehr angenehmer Ort. Essen war wirklich sehr lecker. Atmosphäre super angenehm. Es gibt viele kleine Gerichte, eher Tapas ähnlich. Preise sind für die kleinen Portionen leider etwas hoch.

Coked up, incompetent staff and ridiculous prices for portions!

Prepare to have the worst, most bland meal of your life (and more expensive than other places too). The tacos that I ate (2 mushroom, 2 lamb) were very, very small and tasteless; I do better tacos on my own at home than this restaurant does; no cilantro, cebolla or anything else: just plain meat/mushrooms with shredded cheese. I had to order salsa from the server 'cause she wouldn't bring any to the table. Plus they charged table service for NOTHING (no bread); asked the server what was the service charge about (£4) and she said it was ''for the place itself'' (crazy, I know). Plus there was a window open on a windy day, asked them to close it but spent the whole early dinner having to deal with cold wind. Do yourself a favor and skip this joint altogether.

Your waiting staff are excellent. They have a way about them that perfectly suits the style of the restaurant and it really accentuated the whole experience. The lamb was sensational. There's a chance I've torn my stomach in desperation to not have any of that bowl of perfection go to waste.

It's ok. The chicken tacos weren't anything to write home about, the fish tacos were good (albeit crispy fried), and the beef was decent if not a great cut. They accidentally tried to charge for a few drinks which we didn't have, but this was sorted.

My friend and I had been looking for a new Mexican spot for a while and this place is honestly the best in town. Pro tip: Start with the nachos and guacamole + the Don Julio Flight 😉

As always a fantastic time here! We’ve been twice with a group of 6. The tacos are amazing, they’re small though so order a couple of portions, plus lots of other delicious options. The corn is THE BEST and highly recommend this. Note the tables are only for 2 hours so we’ve not been able to try the desert menu yet so next time will remember to be faster!
