Kyoto Kitchen in Winchester

The service was excellent, the food exquisite, and they allowed us to do the taster menu for two but one meat and one vegan.

Old couple. Went for wife's birthday. She said it was one of the best meals she'd ever had. Staff took time to talk to diners, made to feel we were valued customers. We had the "Gourmet Taste of Japan" menu with sake flight. It was excellent with one exception: the accompaniment to the water cake was, er, "challenging". It was replaced immediately. Not worth knocking a point off.

This was an extremely disappointing experience. We used to love visiting Kyoto Kitchen at the previous premises which were intimate with amazing service and quality. When we visited, the service was shambolic, maybe they are still not set up for the number of customers they can accommodate. We had to wait a very long time and the food was unacceptable quality when it arrived. This is a very different location which we understand, but it has really lost something in the ambience. It was previously a pub and a such as very noisy and echoey. On balance, we couldn’t recommend it.

OUTSTANDING! I was treated to the OMAKASE (at the chef's table) for my birthday, and WOW was it incredible! Simply an astonishing evening. Staff incredibly attentive. Food - unbelievable! And the wine was yummy too! Beautiful decor. And the owner, Miff, is just wonderful. Really takes time with his guests to make sure everything is perfect. Superb food… not cheap but portions decent and quality excellent Staff were 5* - we took ages & even though they were ready to close didn’t rush us Will def return!

This place is simply outstanding. The set menu is not cheap, but it’s very good value as you experience a wide range of dishes, all brilliant. The service is terrific too

Our favourite restaurant so very disappointed this time. We ordered edamame beans and crispy squid to start which were fine. The main course of chicken teriyaki was extremely salty and inedible. .we brought this to the attention of the manager who was very apologetic and offered to bring two fresh plates. The new plates were cold, the vegetables were extremely soft, the chicken had not been freshly cooked and was tough to eat in parts. Unfortunately after this experience sadly we will not be returning.

As usual another excellent meal here. We have always eaten off the main menu but friends wanted to try the tasting menu. The first round of dishes had us thinking if we had made the right choice as quite small but we should not of worried as dishes got larger and by the end of the meal we were all suitably full. Stand out were the tuna tartare which had a lovely warmth to it, the beef tataki, great sashimi and the always uber light tempura. The dessert were ok but didn't match the savory dishes quality which was a shame but all in all very very good.

Good service today, food very well presented but some dishes were a bit bland, asparagus was stringy and the desert was still partially frozen. The whole menu is seriously overpriced. We ate vegetarian - 4 gyosa for £9, 3 pieces of tofu for £8. Really???? Come on guys, I know this is Winchester but there is such a thing as a rip off. This is one of the few places I actually left still hungry. Won't be back.

Went for the taste of Japan set menu with a few added items, the food was amazing ! The young waiter, who explained each course to us, is a credit to Kyoto! Wish we caught his name. Will return again!

I had the pleasure of dining at Kyoto Kitchen, where the experience was elevated by the outstanding service of Soul. The ambiance was inviting, and the sushi was top-notch. My favorite dish, the Winchester roll, was a delightful combination of flavors that left me craving more. Kyoto Kitchen is a must-visit for sushi lovers, and Soul's attentive service added an extra layer of warmth to the entire dining experience.

We had a fabulous meal at Kyoto. Never had Japanese before, didn't want one of the set menus so spent time before planning what we thought would be good. Our server was brilliant explaining everything to us and suggesting the best way to have what we'd chosen. The order was excellent, starting with three small plates, then the Santen Mori with dynamite roll and then the Gin Dara which was simply amazing. The servers were really happy to chat to us, which we like, but would have been equally happy to deliver the food and disappear if we hadn't engaged with them. Finished with the two Japanese desserts (can't eat English icecream in a Japanese restaurant!) and a cherry blossom tea. A delightful birthday celebration and we will definitely return
