This place is an absolute gem. Delicious food and the specials are out of this world. Service was great, very patient and never rushed us. Oh and take your own booze.

Always the best.. service is amazing. .the team there are brilliant.. always happy to help, make suggestions and make you feel so so relaxed. No rush with your meal if you dont want.. the food is one of the best i have had.. so so much flavour and portion size great.

Been using this restaurant as it’s fairly local and quite good food but very dissatisfied with the last visit which will be the last one for me as I thought the waiter extremely rude, when I complained my chicken madras looked more like chicken soup, he took it back and returned 5/6 minutes later when the rest of my meal was cold, no apology at all and made you feel like your an inconvenience as opposed to a fairly regular customer. I’m now using the new shad in Frindsbury, great food, excellent staff and not as spiteful with the cost, in a way I’m pleased I had this experience as the shad’s food and service so so much better.

Placed an order to pickup for a family of 6. Online ordering worked well, good menu to choose from, food was ready on time and great quality. Will certainly use again.

Good food...when it finally arrived. We've been here twice now as a family of four. Both times there were spare tables so the kitchen wasn't overwhelmed but the service was so so slow! We thought the first time was just a bad night but after a repeat performance we definitely won't be coming back. It took 1.5hrs for the mains to arrive and we had to ask where they were. Every other table had eaten their mains so the kitchen was literally just cooking our meal. When I asked where it was, the young man asked another member of staff but noone bothered to come and apologise or update us as to where our meals were. Such a shame, nice food but won't be going back.

Whether sit down or takeaway everything is consistently good. The staff are also efficient and courteous.

Went for a birthday meal yesterday evening with group of friends. The food and service was excellent. The staff are always friendly and make you feel very welcome. Will definitely be going back. I had the Haryali chicken which I would recommend.

Delicious food, banquet meal was perfect size and amazing value for money. Love the Bring your own Booze option, with the coop next door it is perfect! I will be ordering takeaways from here regularly!

Could of been better - I’m not one to slander a local business but I ordered a madras and I can honestly say I’ve had Tikka Masalas that were more spicy, further more the sauce was so watery I was confused to if I was having a curry or a drinking a Bloody Mary after a long night out. Finally I think bubba hump shrimp boat must of sunk, because I only managed to get two small prawns in a whole prawn purée, rather disappointing experience to say the least.

We come down from Manchester to visit Gravesend 2-3 times a year to visit family and always look forward to a meal from Kohnioor. We were first introduced to the restaurant around 8 years ago and have always made time for a visit for a meal or take away. Whether sitting in or taking away we have always been delighted with the quality of the food…fantastic every time. Staff have always been friendly and helpful. Keep up the good work, see you again soon!

Always a decent takeaway but 2 times on the trot forgot the salad and 2 tiny pots of yoghurt sauce ! for the tandoori dishes don’t seem much but when you spend close to £100 a week should be treated better regulars are where your money comes from who ever is in charge of filling the bag teach them better will still use to see how it goes

Stumbled across this Indian restaurant looked good from the outside and people were eating inside so thought it would be good. Clean and tidy inside. Didn't realize it only served soft drinks so went for a small coke which was flat and asked for a jug of water three times before that arrived. (you have to take your own alcohol) Ordered our food, what we had was only ok nothing special, very small portions, chicken tikka dansak, chicken dupiaza, chicken tikka biryani, garlic nann, onion bhaji (only got 2 they were very small), 4 popadums and 2 small cokes. Received the bill £54.13, WOW!!!!!! that was an very, very expensive meal, got charged for the chutneys with the popadums, never have i ever been charged for chutney as it always comes with the popadums. Staff not very attentive.Did not visit the toilets so cannot comment on that, but also the waiter that took our order and delevered our food was chewing something!!! gum possibly?? and this is a big hate of mine. Will not be going back. All i can say is in my local Indian i can order this and more with 4 pints of cobra and the cost is the same and it is a far better meal, bigger portions, with friendly attentive staff, and complimentary drinks.

We have just finished a gorgeous take away from this little gem, the delivery was prompt and the food was a delight - one mild complaint was that the naan wasn’t big enough...only because I wanted more though. Thoroughly tasty and worth every penny.

Ordered meal over the phone and was ready to collect in half an hour. poppadoms were added foc and so was complimentary bottle of soft drink of our choice. food was still piping hot when we got home and we were not disappointed at all. Starters of tandori prawns and mixed kebabs fantastic so was our main meals.. will be definitely eating there again and would absolutely recommend this restaurant.

Kind staff safe and amazing food. The management can’t do enough for you. Love the sag paneer amount many other dishes. We travel from Maidstone for a take away its that good.

Always lovely food and good service here would have got a 5 if they start giving lime pickle in the popadom service it’s my favourite and an Indian meal is not the same without it but what we had yesterday was very good fresh and spicy just how we like it

The Kohinoor has been my parents local take away since... Well forever. But we do occasionally visit for a sit down meal. On this occasion I was meeting up with a friend for a bit of 1-2-1 time.Nice little secluded booths mean you can have a meal and chat without disturbing others dining... A big plus for me, as I'm a bit of a Brian Blessed.The food was fresh, delicious and plentiful.Staff were attentive, but not in your face... It was a slow weekday, but we did end up spending a long time just chewing the fat. The staff left us to our catch up and didn't try to move us on, only topping our drinks up when called on. Truly a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

We regularly go to the Kohinoor for the Sunday buffet, extremely good value, as you can pick what you like from the menu, unlike some fixed buffet menus. We have been regular customers for over 15 years!!!

Great curry house. It’s certainly the best one in the area without a doubt. The food is delicious and the staff are great. It gets busy of an evening so probably best to book or you may be disappointed although the guys will always try and fit you in if they can. Never had a bad meal here and can highly recommend this restaurant.

We visited on the basis of the reviews on here but while the staff were friendly and the food was good quality, it tasted quite bland. The dishes that we ordered should have been more spicy.

We pre ordered here for our staff Christmas party ( we work in a restaurant so only chance we had to have it)..one of our colleagues went to pre ordered our food.was ordered to arrive at 9:30..turned up on time,food was hot still and so tasty..we all got what we requested..

When I think of the best Indian food I have eaten I think of Kohinoor. I have tried many of the dishes on the menu over the years and can say the quality and consitiantancy of the food is superior to all others I have tried.

Food appeared to have been cooked by an old fashioned English cook who was more used to cooking school dinners.

Tried out this restaurant whilst visiting the area. Turned out to be banquet night, and pretty busy. Staff were very friendly and helpful and were were able to enjoy a drink and order whilst waiting for a table.

I have been to this restaurant many times and booked a table for 7.30 for us and four friends who had never been there. It was very busy as usual. Our poppadoms were bought fairly quickly,we then waited until 9.40 for our main course. We kept asking why the Delay,two of our party were diabetic,which we explained.. They just smiled and bought us a starter between the six of us to be getting on with. We noticed two tables of four who had 8 o'clock bookings getting their main courses. Eventually we got our meals and as usual the meal was excellent. Our main problem was not once did we get an apology or a reason.If someone had said to us I'm sorry we are short staffed or something we would've understood.

Hi we have lived on istead rise for over 23 years and this is the first time have been to this restaurant,although this has been here longer than that .My wife’s sister and nieces wanted to take my out for a birthday meal ,and as they all like Indian food and as this is on doorstep decided to go to this restaurant and turn out good choice .Excellent meal ,good service nothing to much trouble,no rushing through meal ,quite busy for Friday night so nice atmosphere,table was booked for eight and left about 10 30 well full and bill was very reasonably for 7people ,will definitely come again .

My friend recomended the place for lunch, I'm a loyal customer to my regular indian restaurant and I'm usually sceptical about trying new places as they are usually disappointing but this place took me by surprise. It's a rather small and intimate place but don't judge a book by its cover. We had the Sunday buffet menu and the best part about it is that it's not a help yourself , people breathing all over the food kind of buffet, you order off the menu and they cook it fresh to order. The food we had was amazing, so full of flavour and generous servings too. Great customer service friendly staff. I've been converted and this will be my new regular indian restaurant.

I always come to this curry house and travel for miles! It’s the best curry I have ever had! Staff very friendly and food very good priced. I have never had a bad meal it’s always been amazing!! Best chicken korma I have ever had also!!

We hadn't caught up for a while decided on a curry plus came to here. Not dissapointed at all. What a fantastic experience. From the moment you came in until we left was warm welcoming. All the dishes were first class. Had one of the recommended dishes brilliant. All the plates went back empty nothing left. Staff helpful great place. Going back for our next catch up.

Don’t be fooled by the understated exterior. It may not have the glitz and glamour of some of the more modern restaurants, but this little place is right up there with the quality of its food.

I grew up in Istead Rise and have been going to the Kohinoor for dinner for as long as I can remember, I have moved nearly twenty miles away but still I return almost weekly because it is the best curry I have ever had.

A relative visits this restaurant on a regular basis and I decided to visit with my father - this was his fourth visit to a curry house so a tricky man to please as he didn't know what to have and generally doesn't like dishes with sauces .... you might wonder why I took him for a curry then but with the prices that pubs are starting to charge for simple pub dishes and a shortage of options, I thought it worth a go.

Twelve of us attending a car show at the nearby Community Centre ordered meals from here, as we do every year.

Pros: usually very good quality curry, bhaji is good but greasy, chicken passansa is a personal favourite, tandoori chicken tikka is really nice as a starter, comes with a free beer if you spend over £20, pricing is affordable, delivery time is usually pretty good.Cons: some of the curries are a bit too sweet, wouldn't recommend the tikka masala.Overall it's pretty good, would recommend, and will definitely order from here again.

Used to visit this restaurant on a regular basis but it stopped accepting Taste Card but does do its own loyalty card and also has a Sunday and Thursday deal evening. Good food really friendly staff and good easy location - worth a try!

Just been to this restaurant a little gem out of the way was told it was nice but it was more then nice it was amazing. Service brilliant waiters spot on even a drink on the house before we left can't wait to go back keep the good work up boys.

We have been regular visitors to Kohinoor over the years and have introduced this restaurant to friends and relatives who continue to visit independently. Staff are efficient and friendly. The restaurant is always busy (we only visit Friday or Saturday) and they serve a very popular Sunday lunch. A nice informal atmosphere, the food is good, fairly priced and always enjoyed. Parking is good. Kohinoor remains top of the list locally for us.

I have given it a three star as it is within walking distance, otherwise it would be two stars. No matter how many times I have been honest about the food and spoken to the staff, I still get served the rubber frozen chicken. Not everytime, but most. When you pay £50-60 I would rather pay £2 more and get fresh chicken. Surely you're not trying to make an extra couple of squid and buying cheap. It shouldn't come to pleading on a public site.When there is a butchers next door there is no excuse. Come on guys, up your game. I want to use your restaurant because I don't have to drive and you're nice guys, but treat us customers with respect. We can taste the difference, even in the stronger flavoured dishes. You are the only indian restaurant I visit for miles that dishes up the supermarket, mass produce, water injected chicken. We deserve better. I want to use you, but I'm struggling. The lights are on but no one is at home. Please, please, please serve us fresh chicken!!!!!!!!You'll have far more repeat business.

We had our Christmas do here and everything was amazing! We had a large number of guests, a complicated pre order and people arriving very late due to work commitments and this did nothing to phase them. Our food was delicious and the service brilliant!

My wife and I went last night 28/12/16 as a wedding anniversary treat,we have both eaten here many times as a couple and with groups of friends, the food and service have never disappointed, I am a bit of a chilli head and the Naga chilli is one of my favourite varieties both for taste and heat, . the Kohinoor does and amazing chicken breast dish cooked in lime and Naga chilli pickle rated as very spicy , the flavour was punchy but not what I would class as very hot the lime and Naga flavours were both there and I really would recommend this dish to anyone who is looking for something a little special, this is the only place I have seen this dish and I will be back for more, My wife enjoyed a chicken Darjeeling complete with onion rings again something a little different from your normal fare. this place is and has always been a gem of a place to eat,....top marks for food and service.

I have Reviewed this curry house before but I must say delicious delicious delicious. Food is always excellent quality and reasonably priced. This Resturant is now our firm family favourite for both sit down and takeaway. 10/10 once again.

My family and I bought takeaway. I opened my chicken curry to find small bits of rubbery tofu with larger bits of chicken. Was this trying to be passed off as chicken or an actual ingredient of a chicken curry?! If this is an ingredient then they need to consider there dishes as this was not a nice surprise! Not a happy customer!

Had evening meal here on Wednesday 2nd Nov, whilst visiting my dad for a few days, who lives in Istead Rise.Set amongst a small cluster of local shops. Was surprised how busy it was for a Wednesday evening at 7pm.Good selection on menu, but food didn't come as spicy as other restaurants we have visited. My husband ordered chicken tikka madras, which is normally too hot for me to eat, but I tasted his and I would have been able to eat the full dish. Appeared to be only "medium". My dads vindaloo was only "hot" and not "hot hot."My dupiaza and daughters korma were fine. The rice was quite sticky and big clumps of it stuck together.Not impressed with the drinks. Despite our Diet Coke and lemonade coming from a bottle, it was very flat. We returned the drinks which were replaced by more flat coke and lemonade. Guess the lids from the bottles had been left off. Couldn't be bothered returning drinks again, so drank them.The decor inside is lilac and could do with updating. Waiters pleasant enough. Handy little restaurant on an estate if you can't be bothered cooking, but not one that I would recommend if you are looking for a great evening out.

This is a favourite haunt of a group of us girls who like to meet up, some are local and others within 15 miles of area. The waiting staff and owner are really polite and friendly. The food is amazing and very tasty. Highly recommended.

The local Indian is always busy, especially on Friday nights & Saturday nights! I would definitely recommend booking a table - and if you can't get through on the phone they are on opentable for online bookings.Great flavour in all their dishes and a great portion size - just enough to make you feel completely stuffed and uncomfortable. The waiting staff are so friendly and like to have a laugh - which brings good vibes to the atmosphere. It is pricey but then what isn't now days?! Great, for takeaways - but again order early because peak dinner time is always busy!!

Since moving from East London to "The Rise" this has been a lifesaver. Kohinoor provides a warm respectful service with some Chiefs special dishes that are a taste beyond I have tried in the past. Consistent in every way and is a gem for all to try and find.

Went here for the first time with friends and glad to say that it was a pleasant surprise!Buffet food was great and all food was freshly cooked once you'd ordered. Drinks were reasonably priced and service was quick and friendly. We don't have any complaints as everything we tasted was cooked to perfection. If your looking for a good meal out with friends/ other half then this is a great choice.

Amazing range, great value, great taste! Especially good value when you go for the buffets. Good sized portions too. One thing i didn't like was the service. Some of the servers aren't very responsive, probably cause their command of english isn't that great. Still, nicest curry i've had so far since i moved here from Singapore almost a year ago.

this is a great curry house to eat in or have a takeaway. the staff and the manager ( Miad ) are very friendly and helpful with helping you choose somethinf off of the menu. they have a Sunday special what is to die for.this is a great place. I had my 50th there.

Visited kohinoor on Thursday evening with the family for their banquet night special. The service was abysmal. We had to beg for more drinks. The food portions were tiny. I had 4 pieces of lamb in my madras. The chicken korma's sauce was like glue! When we go to other curry houses, we always go leave with a doggie bag. This time we all left hungry. I feel for the residents of Istead Rise, only having one curry house to choose from!

Service is always amazing, as is the food. Priced very reasonably. Always recommend to friends and bring family here when visiting. Wonderful people.

I'm not sure I need to bother writing a review this place was so busy;deservedly so though the food was excellent.since becoming a vegetarian two years ago lots of my favourite foods have become quite incipid. however the Kohinoor offered a mirror version of virtually all of their dishes. will definitely be returning again.

A midweek night out with friends (there were 8 of us). Nice friendly greeting and drinks served very quickly. The restaurant was almost full to capacity which shows its popularity as it was a Wednesday evening. Plenty of choice on the menu including the usuals as well as some specials. Everything we ordered was tasty and full of plenty of meat. We weren't rushed and the staff were attentive when required. A lovely little restaurant!

Visited for Sunday buffet with friends and can understand why families would use it to fill up hungry children. It is not a self service style of buffet - you order whatever you want from the menu so you don't leave hungry.The dishes contained a high proportion of sauce, and that was suspiciously luminous (Peckham Spring Water comes to mind) but good for dunking the nan bread in.At the end of the day, OK for a local but I wouldn't recommend as a destination restaurant.

Our first experience of the Kohinoor was a takeaway back in January of which was of high quality so we planned a visit here to see how good the place really was. Its a small Resturant so can be a little cramped, it was very busy so service was a little slow, but the food was superb! This place is very popular so it's advisable to book to avoid disappointment. The only thing this place lacks is space otherwise it's a great curry house with really nice staff. 10/10

I chose this restaurant on a whim, as it is a few miles out, but did not regret it. It may have helped that we were the only ones dining on a Monday night (there were a few in for takeaways), so had the full attention of the kitchen staff. We skipped the starters (it was already 8:30 in the evening when we arrived) apart from the popadoms (which came with, et al, a really nice tamarind sauce) and went straight into the main courses. My partner - a vegitarian - felt spoiled for choice, as did I, but we eventually settled on Duck Tikka Korai and Vegetable Passanda, supported by nanns, rice, and Motar Paneer. The food was really good, well flavoured, and not (as too often happens elsewhere) at all oily. The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive.Overall, I thought the combination of good food and value for money was great, and will certainly be going again.

Saturday night with friends had a very nice meal. Food was excellent, really good but we had over an hour wait which is too long. We were also charge £16 extra for drinks which should have been charge to another table !!! but........ it was sorted out once I mentioned it to the manager. I'm sure it was a genuine mistake and it would not stop me from going back. All in all, very good mainly down to the quality of the food. The reason for the delay was due to the huge amount of people coming in to collect their take-aways.

We are a group of ladies who meet here about every 6 weeks for a curry and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is very small and can feel a little cramped but other than knocking through into the Co op next door, there's not a lot they can do about that!We have never ever had a bad meal here and we have been coming for at least 7 years as a group. Everything is tasty and well cooked, all fresh ingredients. Food can sometimes take a little while but that is because it's cooked from scratch. We normally come on Banquet night and this can be busy. This time we came on a Wednesday evening and the restaurant was packed out! You should always book here as it is so very popular. All the staff are super friendly but very professional and welcoming. We are always the last to leave!! We love it here, we have tried the Curry club in Longfield opposite the station and the staff are quite surly and not at all friendly! Was a one off and we very quickly came back to the Kohinoor the following month! We would not go anywhere else and some of us drive up from Bexley area and some are local ish. This is a fantastic little curry house and well deserves the 5* rating we give it. The staff are lovely and always look after us very well, faultless. See you next month! x

This was our first experience of Kohinoor Spice and I'm pleased to say it was a very good one ! The takeaway was delivered promptly, the food was piping hot and of a very good standard. I would go as far a saying that it was the best we've had locally. Better than both of the Indians in Meopham. Can't wait to go for a meal in the Resturant now we've sampled the food from what was a excellent takeaway. 10/10 from me.

have had a couple of nice meals at istead rise easy to park and short drive but It may be me I seem to be always calling for the waiters as they concentrate fully on locals which I do understand but its all the same money whoever pays for it and should all be treated equal and never seems that way perhaps if I went every week I would get more special treatment,but very good food

Me and my wife have been visiting the Kohinoor for over 20 years probably on a basis of at least once a week. We have had many a party within this place and would recommend to anyone.Ok it's not fancy internally but your not eating the wallpaper and paint but it is what it is.Good tasty food one of my favourite places to eat. Never had a rough curry and always looked after.I have eaten in some of the best eating establishments there is across different countries.Forget the bull the baddies are saying and give it a try if your around. Very hard to get in at weekends unless you book. That tells you everything luvvi es.

We (our family of 10) ordered a takeaway for delivery on Saturday as we were having a special family gathering. We had heard and read good reviews so thought we’d order from Kohinoor Spice.Firstly, they should be honest with how long the delivery should take. We were told when we called it would be within the hour but it took over two to arrive. If customers are told honestly they can make a decision to order or not. With two young children getting tired and hungry we ended up going out to get them fish and chips. You wouldn’t sit in a restaurant for 2 hours before being served would you?The food itself, although very hot when it arrived, was well below the quality we had expected. The prawns were small, the chicken appeared to be processed rather than proper meat and the lamb sparse. The sauces were rather thin which made the dishes a bit tasteless as it seemed that rather than cooking the meat in the sauces it was just poured over.The onion bhaji’s were a bit on the greasy side and the Aloo Gobi and Bombay Potato were like the main dishes – on the tasteless side. The breads were good, however.Overall it was a really poor and disappointing experience. I appreciate they may have been busy in the restaurant but you can’t expect customers to wait so long - especially if the food itself isn't going to be worth the wait.Maybe it was just an off night and we were unlucky, but we certainly won’t be using them again.
