Knotts Cafe and Bakery in Ards

If you liked the food and service offered by school dinners. You’ll love this place. Choose your food as you queue. If you are not sure you will hold the queue up. You are asked what you want to drink before you are sure what you want to eat. Asked for a sandwich. Was thinking nice freshly made. Maybe cheese simple? Was offered 2 in plastic, concoctions, made up how much earlier? No other choice. They dont make to order. Soup in a container, didnt seem to be linked to any heat, was luke warm. Hot food sitting out really did look like school dinners. A cup of tea is just that a v small tea pot and a v small cup. At least its not in a throw away cupboard cup. Clientele: mostly ladies and looked over 50 at least. To be fair was busy with these clients on a Sat. Staff like school dinner ladies of old, some friendly some matronly! They obviously have cornered the older lady market. But looking to the future, need to up their game.

I took my fiance here we have only been together 2 days and I proposed. The food was lovely she had the fry with alot of salt and she loves salt I had a paninis, with extra salt. 10/10.

This is an excellent café that opens early (7.30am) for breakfasts. Large selection of meals and bakery treats. Some lovely staff especially Maureen who is efficient and goes out of her way to be helpful.

I bought a tub of Knotts Irish stew today in butchers in Hollywood,County Down,almost fainted at price tag of £7.15 but thought looks nice and it’s a large tub,this large tub contains Large plate of absolute rotten stew,bits of chewy beef and hard potatoes,word of warning doywaste your money on it,felt obligated to eat some of it at that price,give rest to the dog,yuk 😱as you can see from foto not very large at all,Thankfully!!

Food always good here. Very popular and central to town. Bakery does some excellent take aways too. Friendly staff.

Called for lunch. Very comprehensive menu, however most of what we wanted was not available. Settled for stew which was not hot.

Visited with my father for brunch, scrambled egg was like warm egg soup 🤢, obviously wasn’t ate, some staff quite rude, won’t be back! Also £50 for a steak dinner, get real Knotts you’re a cafe not a 5 star restaurant 😂

I bought 6 ordinary small pancakes and got such a shock to be asked for £5.40 !!!! Never again !!! This bakery is so expensive, the prices have really went up from it changed ownership. The pancakes were nothing special.

Have visited Knotts frequently over this last few years for lunch on Saturday. I love the prawn open sandwich and my wife loves the sandwiches. However we were shocked today to find out that Knotts are now using processed chicken in their sandwiches and it is not pleasant. This is not the high standard we have received from them over the years. Very disappointed. I hope this is not the sign of the future.

OMG what has happened to the best stew ever in Knots Bakery, I know it has changed ownership and good luck with it, but you need to go back to the old stew recipe, because the stew I got yesterday was no where near as good as it used to be. 4/10 at best

We called in for lunch at 1145 - hot food all ready to serve. We had the roast beef dinner at £8.95 each - great value and the beef was delicious, served with a Yorkshire pudding, roast potato, selection of mash and veg. And of course gravy. Very busy, but service quick and plenty of seats.

Sorry but i had to send this, went in today (1.40) got a few items in bakery then joined the queue for the restaurant, party of 3. There was quite a queue there slowly moving we got to the hot food counter all that was left was cottage pie and breadcrumbed chicken chunks things. 1 person asking what we were ordering another on the other side asking us what we wanted to drink at the same time.....hubby ordered cottage pie chips and carrots, I asked for a panni to be told we don't make them, asked for a sandwich to be make for my daughter also to be told we don't make sandwiches. We stood in the queue for a good 10 minutes with other people joining behind us, long story short hubby got his lunch my daughter and myself had a cold drink. There was no apology or explanation from the server. I work in catering and if we are not making dishes we make a point of placing a notice at the front of the queue so that people know what not on the menu.

Went in today for a couple of traybakes to take out most things i asked for didn't have or wouldn't be in till tomorrow i seemed to be putting the server outby asking for help & with what i ended up with was very small and very expensive. Have used this place before but never again discussed, to fair

We visited for the first time in several months, the place looked good, staff friendly and the selection of food was super. Fast service and comfortable seating. A great place, we will be back !

We are regular visitor to Knotts and enjoy our visits. When the cafe reopened we visited on Wednesday 8th July. We noticed that the staff were not wearing face masks. They were speaking to customers and to each other as they served the food. This could cause air droplets to fall on the food. I think that this situation should be taken into consideration by management Going forward.

We went for lunch to this busy and bustling cafe. Service friendly and fast, food absolutely superb and a great atmosphere. Obviously well used, lots of regulars and we will certainly return and recommend to our friends.

It’s a lovely place for scones and coffee. If you’re looking for something else, you won’t be disappointed in the beautiful freshly made buffet. A great choice. I love the CHICKEN AND BROCCOLI BAKE. You can choose which vegs you want with it. A great selection.

Everything is of the highest quality and freshly made. The staff are very helpful and the prices are good. We come to Knotts at least twice a month.

Very busy place get there before 12md good food but certainly not for the diet conscious as everything is full fat but the pavlova is superb and worth every calorie 😂

A good place to have a coffee and a chat. The food is good with plenty of variety to suit most people’s taste. It is well presented and good servings. I would recommend Knotts as I have not been disappointed with any meal I have sat down to.

Another couple of visits to this brilliant cafe and bakery. The quality of food is fantastic and whether we pop in for a scone with coffee(the cinnamon scones were amazing!) or lunch we're never disappointed....well, maybe a little because we never have enough room to have a piece of pavlova or banoffee. Next time! Always taking something home whether that be soda, wheaten or one of their yummy cakes because we know whatever we buy it's going to be good.

I ordered a 9" birthday cake from Knotts - I have to say it was gorgeous! I was surprised when I cut into it to find four layers of jam & buttercream as opposed to just two. It cost £25 and was well worth every penny in relation to size, presentation and taste. It easily cut into around 40 - 50 decent sized slices. Highly recommended & I will definitely order it again! Everyone at the party raved about it - & rightly so! Well done Knotts!

Have tried several coffee shops/restaurants in Newtownards, but none come anywhere close to the quality & quantity of food on offer, plus the high standard of hygiene & cleanliness apparent. I don't think there are many similar establishments where tables are cleared & made ready again so quickly. Staff too are friendly & helpful, although on one occasion my wife who has mobility issues, was chastised for sitting down at an empty table, while l queued for our meals. Felt this was totally unnecessary & insensitive as she was unable to manage the stairs. Thankfully this hasn't happened again, & we will continue to enjoy Knotts.

This is the best GI bread I have managed to find within daily travel of Belfast. Good as a Cob, or small or large loaf, or rolls.

Having spent a lot of time trying various gluten free baked goods which were mostly disappointing, I was delighted to see a new range of gf buns and scones in knotts,i was a big fan of theirs before i had to give up gluten so i was optimistic and they certainly didn't disappoint,lovely taste great texture and I look forward to trying the whole range! BIG thankyou knotts!

We make a point of heading to Newtownards to visit Knotts for either coffee and a mega homebake or lunch. Over the years we've never been disappointed with the quality here and every visit it's Service With A Smile from staff. Well done Knotts.

This is where the locals eat! The fantastic selection of food, the old world charm and ambiance, listening to the friendly locals greeting each other and us, the friendly and efficient staff. Eat in or grab some food to go - Your choice. We ate there most mornings and were never disappointed. We wanted to put this place in our cases and bring it home.

If you want a meal or just a lite bite this is the place to come. On your way out pick up a cake or a few buns on the way out

The most impressive aspect of Knotts is that the dishes are all on display, there is no guesswork about what a particular meal will look like when it arrives on your table. Such a wide and varied selection of food as well from traditional to exotic. Staff are considerate and helpful especially to older diners. Lines can be long but move quickly I couldn't recommend this dining experience any higher, I have been using it for years without disappointment.

Knotts offers great food and generous portion sizes. It is always busy with a great atmosphere but it can be hard at times to find a seat after you have paid for your order. I wish all cafes were like this.

had a chicken bagette,wasnt very impressed.very expensive for all you get.the place was very busy.wouldnt go back.staff not very friendly.

This cafe is a great meeting point, close to a car park and local shops. If you are meeting someone it has an awning outside which is handy if it's rainy. I had a catch up with an old friend and a light lunch which stretched to afternoon tea and buns and then coffee. It is self service however there was no queue and service was quick. The tables were cleared promptly when people departed. The atmosphere is relaxing and it has room on several floors not to mention a bakery where you can purchase home bakery fare to take home. I most certainly will visit again.

Great treat for breakfast out, especially if you desire a good old Ulster Fry. Great food & great service.

Visited here with my wife and a good friend for afternoon coffee and cake and we were not disappointed. The coffees were nice and the fresh baked lemon meringue and rhubarb pies were absolutely delicious. On top of this service was friendly and the environment pleasant. Will return for more sweet treats.

I go here regularly for a breakfast catch-up with friends, the food is excellent, staff helpful and prices very reasonable.

This particular venue offers a bakery shop and self-service dining. It's in a great location - in the centre of the town and easily accessible. There are some parking facilities on the main street and entry to the restaurant is via the bakery. It's a very busy spot but there is an upstairs part offering additional seating to the ground floor which is quieter (usually).

For best quality food and a really warm friendly welcome there is no better cafe in Newtownards or probably N Ireland. It’s consistently so good and overall a pleasure to visit.

Our favourite place to lunch. The daily hot plate specials are great. I love the cranberry, goat cheese and ham sandwich was so delicious. The cakes and pies are also pretty good. I especially miss the cream buns.

Called in for lunch, but we were a bit late in the day so not much on offer. We had paninis which were lovely. I also got a slice of banoffee which was amazing, would call back for that reason alone!! The place was packed the whole time we were there. Staff were very friendly.

my mum, sister and I called in this morning for morning coffee quite late as lunch was being served. Bit disappointed there was no croissants but was able to get a couple of scones. My sister is vegetarian so when we looked at the hot food there was no mains available to her only the vegetables, bit boring, so we had are scones. At which point the server came round and did offer to speak to the chef and rustle something up for her. So that is why my review is good, this girl went the extra mile and to let people know that if you dont see it, doesn't always mean its not available. By the way the scones were delicious.

This place is big, it looks appealing from the outside, but it is basically a large bakery. Nothing else. No atmosphere, rushed staff, basic coffee, basic scones nothing amazing. Other cafes are preferred in the area

The place was very busy when we called at lunchtime. My husband had the Tuna and Sweetcorn Panini which he said was nice. I would have liked sandwiches but the girl said the only ones they had were already made up in the packets. Not really my cup of tea as I would have preferred to have a choice of what went into my sandwich. I had a cold drink and a scone with jam. The scone was lovely. This place also has a bakery so on the way out I bought some scones to take home.

We didn't sit in to eat but bought quite a selection from the bakery to take home . Everything was very tasty and just that little bit special , from the Irish stew to the egg custard tarts . We shall definitely return.

Whether it’s morning coffee with coconut iced fingers or freshly baked scones, or lunch enjoying sweet chilli chicken or homemade soups, followed by desserts... Knotts is a good choice - something for everyone.

Have called in here several times over the last two weeks, never fails to please, love the prawn open sandwiche so so fresh, plenty of prawns, great value for the money great choice of hot meals, and the desserts to die for, well worth a visit

I had heard good things about this place, unfortunately my meal was not great, I had ordered chips which where mostly cool and my coffee was cold my friends meal was fine so maybe I was just unlucky.

High ceiling makes conversation almost impossible and the near constand cleaning is annoying. I really detest self-service.

Visited Knott's for lunch. Very busy...also ground floor seating not disabled friendly, seating too close to negotiate and people blocking with baby buggies. Upper stairs seating available but negotiating the stairs on a walking aid risky. On a good note food good but pricey, free top up tea and oh yes their Cherry Cake is scrumptious.

As a longtime local customer, I am deeply disappointed. Having received two old style Pound coins in my change I asked that they be replaced. The till operator refused saying he had not given them out. Offended this very public insinuation I was lying, I asked to see the manager. I am the manager he replied - actually the owner's grandson. I suggest that grandfather should have a stern word with grandson.

A comfortable catch up with an old friend over a cooked breakfast of fried cherry tomatoes on toast. So tasty , with mugs of hot chocolate to indulge. friendly , quick service. Special requests catered for. Clean comfortable seating, and a visit to the cake counter for treats to take home. Worth getting up early for .

Un irlandés, ex-pat distribuir de dos amigos para café y pastel a media tarde. Poco después nos sentamos a un miembro del personal de aspiradora comenzó. Siempre uno de nuestros favoritos en la tarde o a mediodía. Si quieres ir a comer, ir temprano porque es un lugar muy popular, gracias a su gran degustación de comidas y una amplia variedad de pasteles y tartas. Está siempre muy limpio y el personal es muy servicial. Está bien iluminado, no es el tipo de tornillo donde tienes los ojos hasta ver su comida.

Accept that it is not the cheapest but the items they provide are quality products and their sandwiches are extremely well priced! Tip take a Madeira cake away with you they are yummy

Teníamos el Ulster Fry, un poco de soda, pan de patatas bañadas en huevos fritos y una salchicha, dos tazas de té por £13. 60. recién preparado y impresionante para comer. Limpio, personal amable, si quieres una comida o simplemente un pedazo de pastel. Tienen una gran variedad y una panadería de en frente, para tomar las cosas para más tarde encantadora casa.

En esta muy decepcionado llamado cafetería/panadería por una calle el Día de San Patrick y comprar dos bañeras de Irish Stew un plato tradicional que preparan regularmente.

Knott's es nuestro "sitio" para ir a comer cuando en Newtownards. Una asombrosa selección de opciones de almuerzo de bollos frescos, sándwiches y rollos de deliciosas comidas calientes y ensaladas. Todo lo que he elegido ha probado tan bueno como parecía o mejor! Es genial que puede tener cualquier cosa, desde el desayuno hasta una cena caliente o simplemente un café y un bollo, tarta de manzana o pavlova! Sólo hay algo sobre lo que nos atrae de vuelta Knott's cada vez.

This lovely cafe has been around for a long long time and it is still serving excellent fare in lovely surroundings. The food is good, beautifully presented and served by super staff. Highly recommended and worth a visit

Fuimos a Knott's a día para el almuerzo. Pregunté en el mostrador de la cena lo tenían para un vegetariano y la respuesta o panani huevos revueltos. Me pareció un restaurante el tamaño de Knotts hubiera sido capaz de ofrecer una adecuada comida vegetariana.

Have to visit here every time we go to Ireland, they do the best desserts, also the soda bread is delicious and cheaply priced.The staff are all very happy and helpful, Nothing is too much for them to help.

Mi esposa y yo hemos estado yendo a Knott's durante años, tanto para comprar su delicioso pan, bollos, etc. para llevar a casa, y también para sentarse. Recientemente, hemos venido con tres nietos de nueve, siete, y dos, que no dudo que venden la mejor Knott's bollos en el mundo". Cada vez que llegamos al hasta con dos bandejas de bebidas, bollos, tortitas y bollos, así como los tres niños (el niño de dos años necesita ser sostenido por la mano) - no es fácil de gestionar. Sin embargo, cada vez, un miembro del personal ha encontrado una mesa para nosotros y uno de las bandejas, ahorrándonos mucha molestia y nos permite disfrutar de la excelente comida, té y café totalmente. Gran servicio!

Mi esposa y yo uso Knotts mucho y me encanta la comida, ya sea para un café por la mañana y uno de sus deliciosos bollos o si es un almuerzo donde la selección es un bloqueador de cola, ya que reflexionar sobre sobre la amplia variedad. Ese es el problema. No me gusta cualquiera nudoso teniendo una mesa antes de la comida se pagó!!! Que nos ha sucedido, donde hemos seguido las reglas y sólo pagamos por avena para pararse como "hilos" esperando en un knotless mesa de clara. Dicho todo esto, me han roto las reglas en ocasiones y al chagrin de algunos miembros del personal que entró a una mesa y disfrutamos de la comida. A veces extraño. Parece de otros comensales, pero odio hacer cola y peor aún. Odio comer comida fría. Knott's recibe mi apoyo por la excelente comida y sin olvidar la sección panadería casa fabulosa en el camino de salida. Qué selección de así como platos occidentales. Es difícil no para llenar una bolsa de golosinas a la salida!!

Visitamos este establecimiento cada año desde Canadá. Al entrar por la puerta te encuentras con un fantástico surtido de repostería que trae muchos recuerdos de hace mucho tiempo. Bolas, natillas, tartas, helados de piña flan de rebanadas, plazas de fruta y mucho más. "Puedo tener uno de cada, por favor.?"

Llegamos después de un largo en coche y sólo iba a tomar un café, pero el olor de la cocina cambió frescas en mi mente y la vista de comida tentadora me hizo mucha hambre. Tuve el pollo y pastel de hongos.. fue una elección entre eso y la Misa del gallo.. podría pastel de no equivocar con. Estaba delicioso y seguido de un café. Como llegué temprano, alrededor de 12 antes de la hora de almuerzo tuve la suerte de conseguir un asiento para 4 después de wards se puso realmente ocupados, pero creo que la mayoría nos sentamos.. Volveré la próxima vez en Newtownards. Fue un verdadero hallazgo.

Went for lunch,as always it's quite busy,which for me is always a good sign. The food is very good,lovely selection,and a great take away counter.Great if your feeling lazy,but fancy good home coking.Great bakery at front of restaurant,all very naughty but nice🍰.Always fresh food.

Just love this place and call in every month. Ok, the queues can be a nightmare at times but the food is worth waiting for. Highly recommended!

Amplia selección de comida familiar. Buenos sandwiches, sopas, salchichas rollos, etc. , los desayunos y comidas cocinadas /asados. Elija entre una amplia variedad de alimentos para satisfacer su propio bolsillo. Café muy transitada gran próspera panadería detrás de la casa. Cafetería autoservicio pero ruedas en la planta baja, aunque las comodidades son una docena escaleras empinadas.

Knott's de comida casera de calidad por encima de los precios medios para un café. Hacen una fantástica variedad de pasta's, chili pollo, lasaña y más. En general lo que buscas de alrededor de £20 - £25 por 2 almuerzos, 2 2 bollos y té's.

Ultra busy restaurant but we found a table on the top floor. Excellent cinnamon scones and best tea ever. Will return for sure. Good prices and attractive premises. Lots of goodies to buy in the Bakery on the way out.

El único lugar donde comer cada vez que visite Ards. Puede elegir entre una gran selección de la calidad y la variedad en oferta. Si alguien me lo cocinar una cena como que cada noche! El lugar puede llegar a estar muy concurrido alrededor de medio día o la tarde temprano.

Depois de tanta diversão um lanche é muito bom!! Com sabor caseiro e quentinho. As senhorinhas que atendem são ótimas e atenciosas. Volto com certeza

I always stop in to get sandwiches and other meals to take home. The lasagne and chicken bake are always delicious. You cannot go home without taking home something sweet from the bakery.
