Knoops in Rother

Myself, my Mum and my 2 year old went in today to treat ourselves to some hot chocolate whilst out for a walk. I went into the shop to order the drinks and when I asked if they could they do a smallish hot chocolate that would be suitable for a child (as well as 2 other drinks for myself and my mum) I was told to look at the menu as they didn’t do that. I thought the place was a specialist in hot chocolate??!!) Nevertheless, I persevered and spent £14 on three hot drinks for myself and my family. I also bought a water. I went outside so we could drink our drinks on the bench provided, however the weather had taken a turn for the worse so seeing as the shop was completely empty, (barr the 3 members of staff behind the counter) we stepped inside to take shelter. One of the girls behind the counter came forward and proceeded to then prop open the door in my 2 year olds face despite the fact it blowing a gale and it was pretty obvious why we had come back inside. I asked her if we were okay to be standing there to which she said I’m opening the door because it gets condensation on the windows. She then told us that if it gets busy she will have to ask us to leave… I myself do not work in customer service. However, I would never expect to be spoken to like this as a paying customer. To be honest at this point we felt so unwelcome that we just wanted to leave. As were rapidly finishing our drinks we were joined by a couple with a dog. The members of staff then dropped everything to let the dog go behind the counter into where they prepare the drinks/serve food whilst they spent ages, fussing and petting the dog. There followed no washing of hands, or acknowledgement that this was a food/drink establishment, and perhaps allowing animals into the preparation area was not exactly sanitary. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience. Such a shame as the standard of drinks could actually be worth the £14 they cost. However, we felt so unwelcome as paying customers trying to shelter from the elements that I have to say we will NEVER be going back.

You will never have a better hot chocolate than here at Knoops. Choice of type of chocolate then if you want to spice things up. I had the 64% with a hint of chilli and it was outstanding

Queue out of the door says it all, brings new meaning to chocolate beverages. You don’t have to be an expert to appreciate the variety on offer. 54% Iced Chocolate recommended, though the rest of our lot loved the white choc equiv.

Excellent chocolate beautiful location very limited parking , a little pricey. After buying one of there many many kinds of chocolate you can walk along the street with places to sit and beautiful views of the arch and the marsh. Very limited street parking nearby although possibly more below the high wall below which has a staircase. Can choose everything from milk chocolate to ultra dark chocolate. Very upscale and a little pricey.

The Chocolate Shake was thick and rich in chocolate flavor! The hot chocolate was very average - no whipped cream or rich flavor. Order the chocolate shake!

Excellent spot for ice cream, cakes and all things chocolate. Ice cream servings are a bit too generous - meaning it gets messy very quickly, dripping ice cream and losing the toppings. Delicious though!

Milk chocolate milkshakes were had over three hours ago and our appetites still haven’t returned! The shakes are delicious and very rich, so choose your drinking time carefully. Worth it though: the best chocolate milkshake I’ve ever had.

Purchased an ice cream for my grand daughter 8 years old. No kids size so bourght adult one. Problem was it was to large for the cone. One lick and it fell off the cone they should have had tubs. Waste of £4 no offer to replace Very disapointing

Lovely indulgent drinks, however the girl at the till (long dark hair) forgot loads of items then was pretty rude when I politely pointed it out! Other staff were nice and sorted it. At these prices you don’t want to be treated like you’re an annoying idiot.

Been coming to Knoops since the early days. Popped in two days in a row and the staff were very friendly, professional and efficient, must be the quickest I've received my order! I think the method of scanning the app QR code with the tablet is a bit cumbersome for the staff, maybe a separate scanner like Pret etc use would be better. No complaints though, brilliant as always. Recommend milkshake 34% with seasalt, so good and I think very fairly priced

Been going to Knoops since it opened always top quality chocolate but today bought 2 small hot chocolates and it came to over £9. Guys we know costs have gone up but £9.40 for two small hot chocolates.

Very disappointed having spent endless time queuing only to be told we do not take CASH! Perhaps they will reverse there modern technology in the future and remember the past.

Had a delicious dark hot chocolate and milkshake during the summer. Both delicious, dark and sweet! I could have kept drinking more and more. I have subsequently bought a Knoopifier and the chocolate buttons and now have one daily at home.

It was very hot when we were visiting Rye and we were dying for smth cold and refreshing. Thought we might get some sort of Frapucino at this place. I wish the barrister was a bit more patient letting us to understand that they have a different product offering.In the end we went for a milkshake and it was lovely. A bit too rich and sweet given we wanted something that would help us to cool down, but I was still happy to try something new for me.They have such a great variety of hot chocolate that have i lived there I would certainly come to taste many of them.

We didn't know whether to have a milkshake or hot chocolate and ended up having one each and sharing both! The creamy texture is like no other. A great little treat and pick me up. Would be ideal if there was further seating as there was no where to sit at 11am. We would also like to see more snacks, it's always nice to dunk a biscuit in hotchocolate.

Before coming to Knoops I was never that fussed about hot chocolate, always found it too sweet and sickly. However, the 95 and 100% cocoa drinks were a revelation - pure cocoa taste with none of the bitterness you get from a cocoa bar. The guy serving was very knowledgeable and I wish them every success in branching out to London (and hopefully other cities).

The best hot chocolate anywhere. Choose your strength or combination, advise given if unsure, add a giant marshmallow (rude not too & divine) and then take your seat. I promise you, you will not be disappointed. For coffee lovers that do a great cup of that too. The best remedy on a cold day after a long run with friends.

I've visited before, and I've never been disappointed. The 43% reminds me of 2 things: in the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, when the queen offers Edmund a hot chocolate and a Turkish delight, and in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, when Willy Wonka offers them a cup of the chocolate river. Both are instances of drinking rich, smooth chocolate, and I've never before had a hot chocolate that came close to what I felt as a kid reading those scenes. 43% is that for me. Would definitely recommend.

had read all about Knoops via various national media outlets and trust me its reputation is that of a venerable purveyor of hot chocolate concoctions. This of course is a double edged sword as that means the expectations are high.

First time here reccomended by son who had been few times before. Hot chocholate sevred on a bowl, I had the 43% and other half had the 54%. Both very nice. Lots of options and choice of milk.

Try to visit everytime we come to Rye. There is a hot chocolate for everyone's taste here. I like dark chocolate and sweet always seems more strong in hot drinks... so 67% and above for me. If it is your first visit take a little time to think about the flavours you like & ask for help if you need it. Don't miss out on the marshmallows they are the best I've ever tasted anywhere.

Had read about this place, so had to try the hot chocolate, so many to choose from, I had just a plain one with a hint of caramel, my friend had dark chocolate with ginger, she was impressed ( wished I’d had it ) as mine was a bit sweet but still delicious.

We were visiting Rye on a chilly November day and spotted Knoops at the top of the steps up from the car park. Every hot drink is made to order and is prepared painstakingly, so don't expect it to be instantaneous. I had a 80% chocolate drink and it was fantastic - creamy, luxurious and warming, with a lingering smooth after-taste.

Ok, so we were visiting the area anyway, staying at Dungeness, but Knoops had been on our to-do list for a while.

I live locally to this absolute gem and manage to visit at least once every 2 weeks! There’s so much choice, it’s like drinking a piece of liquid perfection! If your visiting Rye or in the area, this place is an absolute must! They also offer a variety of alternatives to milk! My favourite is 43% with oat milk and a marshmallow! Will be back next week!

Have been here a few times over the last couple of months - on the warmer days, their milkshakes are a perfect way to cool you down. On a colder day their Hot Chocolate selection is just the ticket. Accompanied of course by some of their shortbreads

We visited after reading an article suggesting this could be the best hot chocolate you ever try. We can confirm that this is the case, it's out of this world.

On arrival there was a friendly welcome. The place is tiny with mainly just some high seats around the edge, but we managed to find somewhere to perch. We had come for the hot chocolate and were impressed by the number of different variations. The server was very helpful in explaining the different kinds. We liked the way it was presented in bowls and agreed that it was one of the best hot chocolates we'd had, although quite expensive. In spite of this we will come back again as it would be nice to try some others.

Stopped off here en route around Rye. Small unassuming shop with the most gorgeous hot chocolate menu. None of your regular nonsense, jut pure lovely hot chocolate in various chocolate percentages along with a delicious home baked biscuit. Sat in the people watching bench at the front of the shop. Loved the ‘mugs’ used.

Incredible hot chocolate, and I’m very picky. So many varieties here to choose from. The man who worked there was SO knowledgable, helpful and friendly, great customer service! Really unique cafe. Will be back!!! Can’t wait to try another.

Heard so much about this place but not being a hot chocolate lover we hadn’t been. On Sunday everything was closing at 5pm and we found this place stays open until 6pm. The time had come, it was a perfect day for sitting outside and hugging a hot drink so we decided to give it a go. Why oh why had we not been sooner - we had the 64% chocolate and it was AMAZING . Real chocolate and gorgeous non-homogenised local Northiam Dairy milk. Had a lovely chat with the owner too.
