Knights Fish Restaurant in Mendip

Best fish and chips we have had in along time, even my mum couldn’t find fault . The fish and chips with a tipple, in my case a Wilkins cider £12.50 all was good value for the quality served. Pleasant environment and the staff were lovely.

Called in as all restaurants were full and found this by chance. Very polite staff and quick service. I'm not sure why people call it expensive? We had a knights special which is fish and chips pot of tea , bread and butter with tartare sauce for £11.95 for a sit down meal that's cheap in my opinion. They do kids meals which are a good size too. Recommended.

Very expensive for a chippy, staffed largely by kids, but the food was ok, not amazing but ok. Had to chase staff to pay and I overheard the table behind us complaining that they had got the wrong Bill…..

Lovely food, nice and clean, toilets are upstairs and did not see a downstairs disabled toilet? Had to wait quite a while for our food to arrive as we decided to eat inside and we also had to go and find someone to pay when we had finished our meal. Also crazy prices for a chip shop.

We popped in here for lunch on our trip to Glastonbury. So glad we did. Food was lovely. Very clean place and service was quick and friendly. Would recommend

We booked ahead although you do not have to be seated inside, the front is a regular Chippy/Take away. We of course went for the fish chips and peas and were not disappointed. The normal portion was enough to be honest. The staff where excellent and seen to us very well. You can also sit outside in a court year to the rear, weather permitting.

We've been visiting this restaurant for many years now when we visit Glastonbury, indeed we even had our civil partnership celebration meal here back in 2015.Today we visited as we're hopefully reaching the end of the Covid Pandemic.We visited their web site, made a reservation before leaving home. On arrival we checked in using the NHS app, the waitress even had a spare QR code for us to scan.Our table was waiting. Very well distanced from other customers and as usual the place was spotless. We watched each table get a thorough cleaning between customers.The menu is extensive and good value. Our order arrived very fast being served by a lovely lady who made sure everything was in order for us. The meal was delicious, I mean seriously delicious, the fish was fresh, the battery to die for and the chips cooked to perfection.The restaurant is currently operating at a limited capacity so I would advise to book before arriving. The booking app is very efficient and easy to use.It's great to see a restaurant stay constant over the years, the staff are always polite and willing to chat if you make the effort and they're not too busy. Contactless payment was easy and in short we have a lovely tasty fish and chip meal.Most importantly the Covid rules are stuck to, it was a very positive and enjoyable experience during what is a difficult time.I would recommend this restaurant in a heartbeat and will return again no doubt on our next visit to the town.But the way it's been re decorated during lockdown, really well done and the chap who decorated the interior has done a brilliant job, I could see the attention to detail.It's contemporary in colour combined with the physical structure of an historic building, cleverly done, looks great.If you are in Glastonbury this is a must visit for lunch. Myself and my daughter and a friend went here for something to eat. Girl that served us was really nice. I really thought we had got over not accepting Scottish notes. Obviously not needless to say I will not be back here the sheer stupidity of some people what made it worst they accepted payment from a BANK OF SCOTLAND DEBIT CARD if that isn't a contradiction I dont know what is as they were bank of Scotland bank notes

Excellent fish and chip supper with perfectly cooked chips, fine juicy cod and the tastiest mushy peas I’ve ever had (and I’ve had them in Whitby!)

Worst chips ever shouldn't have been sold partly my mistake, I wasn't aware they where clossing. Should have said.

We came here with high hopes and expectations and these were quickly deflated. Felt a bit grubby in there and the tables seemed greasy. The food we ordered was mediocre and what can only be described as a child's portion. We ordered 2 mini cod and chips, 2 drinks and bread and butter and curry sauce. This came to just under 20 pounds. I was expecting a smaller portion but this arrived on a small side plate and for 20 pounds I was certainly expecting more. When we'd finished our food we then had to wait an age for the bill.. And then they forgot to bring it. So we had to ask again. I would find somewhere better to eat if you're in Glastonbury

Staff friendly and good service but for the fish and chips , the cod was really soggy thought it was birds eye for the size of it , just came out of the oven too early not crispy, went here 2 weeks ago and it was lovely so disappointed this time.

Had a realy lovely meal to celebrate a birthday , as always fantastic food and service and the best fish ever, a massive thank you to Charlotte for always making us so welcome it is such a pleasure to go there for a meal .

Simply the best fish & chips I ever had . & due to this covid -19 thing they are the safest . Restaurant I’ve seen very good distancing . Clean tables all staff wearing masks and everything cleaned the second anybody leaves . Also reasonable priced . Menu . Highly recommend .

Knights is an amazing chip shop with really lovely food. Its been run by the same family since it opened back in 1909 which is amazing on top of that, that family are really lovely ive been going to knights since I was very young where the queues would be out the door on a Friday night and dave would give me a scrump whilst I was waiting and now 30+ years later I still go in just not as frequent as I used to if you are visiting glastonbury this is a good place to eat and 100% highly recommend the fishcakes really good and home made

The best fish & chips I’ve had for a long time! I had the fish burger & chips with a jug of gravy. My mum had the smaller fish & chip size. It was great there were options for smaller sizes & the portions were generous.

We went on Gluten free Thursday as my husband and friend are both gluten intolerant. Food was superb, the fish and chips are some of the best we have tasted. GF menu had lots of options.

We booked a table in advance due to current situation, lovely food, polite and friendly staff and the Rose (Buffalo Ridge) was an additional treat. Highly recommend this fish and chip shop.

Visited for the gluten free special Thursday lunchtime.It’s such a treat to have a really good choice on the menu. I had a large GF cod and chips with onion rings and mushy peas. This was washed down with a local cider.I really enjoyed the brilliantly prepared cod. Batter was gorgeous. Our chips were great and a massive portion too. This restaurant is well worth a visit to all coeliacs.

This was a very welcome meal at the end of a long hit day exploring Glastonbury. The fish was nicely cooked and the portions very generous. Only issue was that they couldn't find our online booking but we were able to get a table anyway.Would gladly visit again. Even writing this review is making me hungry!

Very enjoyable and tasty fish and chips. We eat in the outside area and the weather was hot and the place was packed but the service was fast and friendly. Would eat from there again.

Visited knights on Wednesday 26th Aug. The restaurant has followed Covid safety regulations very well and the staff were very responsible. We did use the ear out to help out scheme but happily eat here any time. The food was freshly cooked and tasted amazing.

Well as usual the food and service was great , but what we didn’t like was in the same part we were eating a lady at a table with her group was helping herself from the bar to alcohol and also had cans of drinks in her pocket , we also saw her around the till later on , if she was a member of staff this should have be made clear as to us it looked like a customer helping themselves!!

Great value, friendly efficient staff and covid precautions in place 5 *****.Would recommend . Good vegetarian choice and drink selection.

A great fish and chips place. visited many times, fish is always really good, friendly staff and laid back atmosphere. They do take away too.

This is a good place to eat and the fish is really tasty, this time we both had haddock and didn't realise it came with skin on which neither of us like. We did manage to get the fish off the skin but a bit messy, you must ask for no skin if you come in here. I think cod has the skin off. It's still enjoyable but far too many chips for me, next time will just get a fish. Will certainly be back when in the area.

Foul chips, went straight in the bin, horrible - nothing more to say on that subject.Ordered a cheeseburger to be asked “would I like salad with it?” - yes please.You guessed it - No salad!Burger overcooked and very crispy.We aren’t fussy people but most of my partners meal also went in the bin.A thoroughly underwhelming visit and will not be returning.

Our post lockdown visit to Glastonbury was made all the better by our choice of lunch venue! We chose to eat outside in the little courtyard out the back and were not disappointed. The menu was extensive and between us we enjoyed fish and chips, prawn cocktail and halloumi fries! Everything was delicious, the staff welcoming and friendly and Covid -19 preventative measures were in place! We will return!!

I have been eating here for over a year - and each time the food is just getting worse. Today was my final visit - will never go again - uncooked and soggy chips and overcooked fish - batter has rock hard and fish was dry and just disgusting.

Excellent fish served in the most amazing crispy batter, the chips were ok but a little dry. portion size generous. Interesting building with oak beams and a winding staircase leading to excellent washroom facilities

This was the fifth time I have visited this restaurant, it seems to get better each time,I have coeliac disease and one of the things I miss most is fish and chips, every Thursday, Knights Fish Restaurant does gluten free fish and chips, the food is cooked perfectly, fresh and very very tasty ample portions all washed down with a glass of cider, what more could you ask for in the heart of Somerset ? I would recommend to anyone coeliac or otherwise

Traditional old fish & chip restaurant serving the best cod and chips I have eaten out for a long time. Generous portions, pleasant staff, quick service, and a warm open fire as it was bitter cold when we visited. My wife had their own fish cakes which she said were very good, and to go with it - proper tea! Highly recommended

Our daughter has coeliac disease and there are no gluten free fish and chip shops to eat in where we live near manchester. We have been staying near Cheddar and had been informed of your Thursday Gluten Free nights. It meant the world to visit and enjoy your amazing fish and chips together as a family of 5. Quaint characterful Fish & Chip Shop & Restaurant! We’ve been visiting Glastonbury for the past 12yrs & have never popped into this wonderful establishment! The Takeaway area is at the front of the shop but leads back to a large dinning area! It’s like the Tardis! Never ending! Lovely old stoned walls & a huge fireplace with a twisting stairwell up to the rest rooms! We had the meal deal of Cod and Chips,Mushy Peas and a drink! Gorgeous Fresh Fish! Very tasty! The menu is vast & plentiful, & was awarded the Best Fish & Chip Shop 2019! The staff are friendly & mega friendly! Well done! A good,excellent well established business that’s been family run for the past 110yrs!

Went here one Friday evening with friends, I had theLarge Cod & chips. The fish was succulent , large soft White meat , incased in a nice light batter.The chips too were nice, all washed down with a Pintof Guinness. I recommend Knights Fish & Chip restaurant , Great food & good service.

After a long day shopping in the town, my partner and I were ready for food, just as all the cafes were closing, so we were so pleased to find this shop where we could eat in. The staff were all very friendly, the service was excellent, as were all our choices of food. Very tasty and well worth the token extra £1.50 for eating in. All together, it was a very enjoyable visit that really saved the day for us. I don't usually do reviews, but these guys (and gals) deserve recognition for their brilliant service - thank you!

Long Queues in early evening - Glastonbury Carnival rush. Well worth the wait for take away, Had to finish the fish and chips the foillowing day as good size portions and very good. Hot fresh fish and chips. One of the Best Chippy's in the UK as was evident by the queues and persons waiting outside. More limited menu on Carnival night to allow quicker service but did NOT detract from the choice of suitable Carnival food. I would rather have lunch/dinner here than other establishments in Street

A la recherche d'un restaurant sympa sur Glastonbury, nos pas nous ont mené dans ce petit restaurant, à la devanture couverte de prix et récompenses. Un peu déçu de ne trouver qu'un seule bière à la précieux (uniquement espagnole....) nous nous sommes rabattu sur une très bonne bière locale en bouteille, et un cidre (pression) non moins excellent. Quand au poisson, le point fort du restaurant, il était juste merveilleux. Menu enfant très correct.

Used to be a very good restaurant with awards, but now going down hill very fast, with cold fish and chips if you wait long enough and if you do get through the batter try and find the fish, you will get a better potion of Fish from the local supermarket with better results

We had read about this award winning fish and chip shop and restaurant so planned in a visit to Glastonbury. Their website stated that they were closed during the afternoon, opening again at 5pm. After a good browse around the town we headed for Knights early intending to find its location and return later. Imagine our surprise at finding it open. We purchased cod, chips and mushy peas to take away.

after moving here a few weeks ago i was worried we wouldn’t find a good chippy- wrong!!!! this one is gorgeous!!! hot fluffy chips a plenty! probably the only reasonably priced food is glastonbury (take out anyway, never had sit in food here). seriously don’t waste your money on pub food around here as you are quite likely to be disappointed. chips all the way, yum!!

Really accommodating staff as we had a wheelchair user, attentive and polite, as for the food..... Delicious and fresh, the best onion rings for ages, reasonably priced and great portion size, would recommend this place and will go back.

Super fish and chips; tasty, good sized portions, really well cooked came out quickly and piping hot. Really good value for money too!

Lovely fish and chip takeaway/restaurant, with an amazing history and lovely place to eat out the back (and outside). The fish has always been nice and there burgers are very good. Huge onion rings too.

My drink was ordered before we ordered food, but managed to come after the food... the chips are soft and the fish was wet on the bottom side instead of crispy. Never again.

We came here again as the fish is gorgeous and staff really friendly. A pleasure to sit in and enjoy. We did call back another day and got some to take out, just as good. Cheers guys

Came across this wonderful little restaurant that has been frying fish for 5 generations. An Oasis in a town full of soap dodging hippies selling vegan food.

Had a late lunch here on Saturday and we were very pleased we did. The fish is superb - light crispy batter and beautiful fresh fish. The tartar sauce was a delight and the mushy peas - I haven't tasted better. The chips weren't as crisp as I like them but acceptable. Service is really good with the order being taken very quickly, and the food and drinks served soon after. The added bonus was a draught beer and wine being available.

I decided to try one of their maggots. Jenny who used to run the lace with her husband years made fantastic maggots... sadly whoever made mine wasn't even half as good. It was very dry and tasteless. I won't bother again... back to West End chippy in Street from now on. We only called in here tonight as West End are shut for annual holiday. Big mistake.

Sat in for fish and chips, was ok for fish, chips and peas not outstanding in any way, but not bad either. Need to do a bit more to live upto the expectations.

There is lots of seating through the doors beside the standard chippy counter. It's licensed if that's of interest.

Fabulous meal, the food was well cooked and tasty, the service was good, have to admit that the beer I ordered wasn’t brilliant, but that was my fault.

Came highly recommended. Disappointed to be told they had no mushy peas. Fish and chips needs mushy peas as much as it needs salt and vinegar.

8 in our party enjoyed the best fish and chips ever. The sides and especially the onion rings were also gluten free and excellent. Highly recommend the family owned eatery. A do not miss for sure. Very reasonable in price.

We came to Glastonbury today and we found this restaurant called knights. The deal with these for lunch was the double diner which consisted of 2 cod and chips any side for £15.95.

Nothing special, the chips are either soggy or underdone most of the time. When they're cooked right the chips truly are wonderful, however they seem to have a problem with consistency!

Visted today. Chips were... okay, nothing to write home or complain about. But the bigger shock was opening the pea fritter and finding a fish fritter. Not a great for veggies, in Glastonbury of all places, and have to mark it down for that :(

Visited for lunch as husband fancied chips. Such friendly people and the building has great atmosphere and history!

After seeing the signs saying it had been voted in the top 20 in the UK I was excited but sadly my takeaway away was a little soggy, to the point I couldn’t use my hands and had to use a fork, the taste was nice and takeaway can always be hit and miss as sweats in a bag but I was expecting more. Suggest eating in or eating takeaway immediately.

My wife and I popped in to Knights on a whim, being rather hungry. The staff were very friendly, the service quick despite being very busy and the food was terrific. I read a review that said they were terrible. I cannot understand that at all, they were superb in all facets of service, food and friendliness. Got her. It's a Glastonbury must. They have good non- fish menu too!

This place is not to be missed. Warm welcome, well staffed. Nothing was too much trouble but the food was out of this world. I have had my share of fish and chips and mushy peas but these were outstanding. If your within 100 miles of this place you must visit, Glastonbury Tor great, Knights fish and chips outstanding

The Fish and Chips was okay, not exceptional, though. Service was also okay and reasonably quick, at least little after peak hours.

This place is amazing. The fish and chips are fresh and not oily. The fish cakes are also amazing. Going back again tonight for more.

Slightly disappointed with the standard of the fish and chips served, our fish was a bit greasy certainly didn't look freshly cooked but the sharing fish platter was nice. I thought the service was very good, the lady who served us was very pleasant. Also the restaurant is licensed which is an added bonus. If we return to Glastonbury we would give this restaurant another try, maybe.

What a beautiful looking fish & chip restaurant & take away, I have been wanting to dine here for a long time on one my many visits to this beautiful area & was so excited that I finally had the time, but sadly on this occasion I wish I hadn't of bothered as I found it a complete let down & very disappointing, I expected freshness plus both good quality & service.

I cannot believe that people would award this chip shop a 5 and write that it is outstanding. Perhaps they do not know many chip shops.

Sorry to say this but my friend and I were disappointed on our last visit, standards seem to have slipped since we came last year. The service was atrocious despite it being a quiet evening. The waiter was so disinterested in taking our order we had to go and look for him and even then he still took his time to come - when he finally broke off his conversation and ambled over we were on the point of leaving. To be fair the food then arrived promptly from the kitchen. The small cod was poor value, it looked bigger that it was as the batter was partly hollow. Chips were OK but nothing special.

I've been coming here since the 90s and they just keep getting better and better. Fish is always fresh and the chips are near-perfect – crisp on the outside and soft inside. Pea fritters must also get a big thumbs up, not to forget the chilli vinegar. A proper chippy, don't miss it if you're in Glastonbury for a visit. Highly reccommended

Chose table service, which was efficient and quick. Served by a friendly waitress. Despite being midday on Saturday we were served in under 10 mins and the food was very good and piping hot. Would return without question.

As a party of 5 we didn't neatly fit the 4 person tables in the main restaurant so the lady serving us kindly opened the room reserved for bigger groups. We had plenty of choice on the menu and there were some deals on offer if you buy e.g. two cod, chips and peas. It is possible to say which part of the fish you prefer and to choose the size of the portion according to your appetite. I had the calamari and it was delicious. The kids meals were good sized portions and there is a tempting dessert menu...if you have room left.
