Lovely meal in Lovely restaurant. Good service from friendly attentive staff. Then we left before desserts as a family arrived and with masks off began to chase their children round the restaurant for our entertainment. No thank you

I normally love the Kirkton however we went for a meal on the 23rd - Food was fab as usual - No complaints there. However due to new COVID rules, they have to close at 6, which we were aware of. We were finished our mains at 5:40 and were waiting to be offered dessert. A waitress saw we were finished however walked straight past us and cleared an empty table behind us.. (how convenient). Nobody came back to clear our table or offer us desserts until 6:05 when they then told us they couldn’t offer us desserts, surprise surprise! - I told them I wasn’t happy with the service and didn’t even get an apology. Won’t be back.

I’m not sure why at 2.30 there was only an a la carte menu was available. Turned out to be a very expensive lunch for me and my three children. Two of which were too old for the children’s menu. No main courses under £10, most between £15-£20. Which I don’t mind paying for an adult meal that would be appreciated. But £10 for macaroni?not worth the money. £6/£7 for starters. Surely should have a lunch/specials menu? The starters we had were tasty (goats cheese and melon) and venue was lovely. Staff friendly and helpful. But I’m afraid it would be too expensive for us to be regular customers.

My wife and I went here for lunch after seeing a few mentions about it on Facebook. The restaurant was quiet and the staff were very attentive, asked you to complete a form for track and trace. The decor of the restaurant is really nice. The menu was varied and had choices for all type of eaters. The meals that we had were superb, and there no scrimping portion wise, it was really nicenly presented. Prices were average for the area which made it excellent value. I could find no fault with anything here even the toilets were spotlessly clean with Covid notices on every table. This place is definitely worth a visit only 1.5 miles off the A76 just south of Ayr.

This was meal number 5 for the eat out scheme..By far our favourite..On arrival the waitress got us seated with our drinks but told us straight away food was on hold to let them catch back up as the place was really buzy.. But we respected this as we knew what was happening so we just sat with our drinks n chatted. After our orders wer taken food arrived shortly after..Well defo worth the wait.. Haggis bon bons.. Mmmm and that sauce..Mains wer cajun chicken linguine.. Absolutely delicious chicken was cooked to perfection as was the pasta.Beef Wellington for him.. Well iv never saw him devour a dinner like that before.. He said is was the best thing he's ever tasted and it certainly looked it..Kids had chicken beast mash and gravy n they loved it.. Then loved. There ice cream and. Fruit kababs.. My little 1 was trying to steal her sister strawberries. Then the waitress turned up n asked her who likes strawberries then produced a plate of them.. She was over the moon.We will definitely be returning here. We can see it becoming our new go to place. The staff wer all fab.. Xx

Having booked a table for 7.30 pm for 2 people we thought we would have no trouble but on arrival were asked to wait outside on the patio as the table was not ready yet, luckily it was not raining just cold. After a few minutes a member of staff came and asked if we wanted any drinks but we declined and said we were wait till .seated.20 minutes later we were finally seated and ordered our drinks which were on the house as an apology for the delay. After a quick study of the menu we opted for the trio of venison and the beef wellington but enquired what vegetables they came with, unsure the waitress said she would find out. The reply came back tender stem broccoli so we asked if we could have a side order of braised red cabbage, and then the wait began. A full 45 minutes later our two plates arrived with our side order of red cabbage only to discover that both dishes came with the aforementioned broccoli but also yes you guessed it , braised red cabbage ! Plus a floret of cauliflower and a carrot. Both meals were hot and extremely tasty but just sadly not worth the wait.On clearing our table a member of staff said they had been extremely busy due to the dine out to help out scheme which can only make you wonder if maybe they are trying to satisfy too many customers at once.So food wonderful, sadly the wait not so much!

We had lunch here on a sunny Sunday. We had booked but were given the option to sit outside, which we did. Really delicious food... we shared a cheesy garlic bread (which was an excellent sized portion) and for mains we had the burger and the breast of chicken with haggis, both served really well. Only criticism is that I saw others eating a Sunday roast, which wasn’t on the menu and wasn’t offered to us either, which I would have chosen if I’d known. Friendly staff who kept checking on us outside and recommended a good beer to have.

Not been at the Kirkton for a meal in a long time so decided to give it a go being my local. Food was of a good standard and service was decent too. I had the haggis Bon Bons as a starter which were ok. The main i ordered was the macaroni and garlic bread, which was excellent, with a very creamy sauce. The ambience of the restaurant was good. Would definitely come back and try some of the other dishes. The health and safety protocols were in place and of a very good standard.

Called in for lunch on a cold, wet, stormy Friday, to find the restaurant was actually very busy, always a good sign. We got a table straight away and served by very friendly, helpful staff. I had the haddock and chips, my wife had the steak pie. Both were delicious, followed by the most delightful lemon meringue roulade and coffees. Although we are not locals we have visited a few times when passing, for both lunches and dinners, and have never been disappointed. We will certainly return, and would highly recommend the Kirkton Inn.Never had breakfast here, but would think would be excellent.Only ever visited the restaurant but there is also a public bar.Never had the need to use wifi.

First time visiting the Kirkton Inn after hearing mixed reviews. The friends we went with had been when it first opened and were very disappointed, but since then have other friends eat there on a weekly basis and rave about it so we needed to try,, and our friends were absolutely not disappointed this time! This is an old property with lots of character outside which was closed for a while and reopened after being subject to much renovation inside. And it was all worth it. We went on a Tuesday a week before Christmas, the restaurant was surprisingly quiet with only around another 8 people in, we were given a warm welcome and afforded a choice of tables by a very friendly staff member who immediately took and brought our drinks order and menus. The place is immaculate. (A visit to the gents washroom (always a good judge of the cleanliness of an establishment) revealed that It was spotlessly clean.) there is a bar which we did t go into I’m not sure if you can eat in there too, wouldn’t mind exploring more of the place next time! Christmas menu was on offer alongside regular menu favourites .We had ham hock terrine and haggis scotch egg starters which were delicious, four different mains or fish in batter and chips, xmas turkey, veg lasagne and steak and sausage pie. (We made a couple of alterations to the order, fries instead of thick hand cut chips with the fish, chilli and Parmesan fries instead of garlic bread with the lasagne) and nothing was any trouble. Everything was plated up beautifully and all was very fresh. My steak pie wa s probably the best I’ve ever had. Puff pastry was freshly cooked and well risen (many places precook and dump it on the plate!) steak was dry tender small chunks with slices of tasty link sausage in a perfect gravy. There was silence and clean plates all round! Staff were attentive and we had two visits to check all was well and offer more drinks. Everyone loved the mains.Despite not going to have a dessert, I couldn’t resist the Xmas pudding with brandy sauce, glad I didn’t resist, perfect portion size, consistency flavour and copious jug of brandy sauce went down a treat. Overall we couldn’t fault the Kirkton. It’s 5 minutes from Ayr, easy parking on the street outside on the night we went, staff are extremely friendly and attentive, great menu choices, immaculately clean and we look forward to this being a new regular eatery! (My one disappointment was in myself that I didn’t take photos to share here... next time!)A well worthy 5 stars.

I had duo of venison which was so delicious (especially the venison pie) and husband had fillet of sea bass which he thoroughly enjoyed too. Pudding was shared- apple tarte tatin and the Scottish cheeseboard. Everything was perfect and the service excellent from Stacey and Victoria. It is excellent value for money and rounded off the evening with a cocktail in the friendly bar. Highly recommend this fantastic place!

Heading back toward AYR and seen a sign for The Kirkton Inn (Dalrymple) on the A77.Checked with travel companions and we agreed that it was time for food. So we headed there to try it out. A classy little hotel with restaurant and bar, freshly decorated in the inside. Lunchtime special £12.95 for two course or £15.95 for three up to 16:00 hours, then there’s another deal on from 4 to 6. We all opted for Smoked Fish Chowder to start. It was excellent full of fish and flavour and served piping hot with a warmed sesame seed bread roll. Two ‘four cheese macaroni’ and one chicken fajitas for mains, provided exceptional quality and quantity. The fajitas were just spicy enough to give a little kick, compensated by homemade guacamole, sour cream and grated cheese. The macaroni was also excellent and with the two slices of garlic bread and salad a sizeable portion of foodWith a couple of spirits with mixtures and a draft coke the bill came to under £48. Quite exceptional for the quality and quantity of what we had. A bit off the beaten track, but well worth finding if you find yourself in South Ayrshire.

My wife and I visited for lunch on a random day in September. The meal was delicious, and the staff friendly and helpful. I had the Haggis, Neeps & Tatties starter, absolutely delightful, followed by Haddock & Chips. The fish was lovely, but the batter was to die for! My wife had steak pie followed by the Panna Cotta, both of which were equally delightful. The only slight downside was that they were out of Merlot! Next choice was the Argentinian Malbec, which also was out of stock!! Settled for the Australian Shiraz. Sod's Law, we were half way through our meal when the wine delivery arrived! However, this small misshap wil not prevent us from returning to this delightful restaurant.

I had haddock and chips whilst my partner had mixed tempura. To be fair the tempura was quite good, however , the fish was dressed in an overly soggy and greasy batter. The side salad was limp and soggy and the chips poor. We were one of only two parties eating so the kitchen was fairly quiet. Staff were as usual friendly and attentive. It starts with a trip through a lovely rural village by the name of Dalrymple, in the heart of East Ayrshire. The Inn at one time was exquisite, but now the first appearance from outside would put you off, dead and empty flower basket's falling to bits, a lighted sign which is hanging off the building, the whole appearance could do with a good sand down and a lick of paint. The meal was under par, the only up side was the lovely staff.

The Kirkton Inn in the village of Dalrymple, just ten minutes drive east of Ayr, has just re-opened after a change of ownership. I cannot comment on the B&B accommodation or Self Catering Studios, as our party were at the 100 year old Inn for a meal only. The Kirkton has a cosy and well stocked whisky lounge, a traditional bar, and an attractive restaurant with whitewashed walls and beamed ceiling. The food was reasonably priced and well presented, and the menu was more varied and imaginative than you might expect of a village pub. Dishes ordered by our party included freshly battered fish and chips with tartar sauce which was excellent, and a superb sticky toffee pudding which just the right size to finish off the meal nicely. One of our party was a little disappointed that their chocolate fudge cake portion was small, but all in all it was very good evening. The pub sits alongside the famous river Doon (of Robert Burns' Brig O'Doon fame), which is a popular salmon fishing beat and in the past I recall you could organise a salmon fishing permit via the Kirkton Inn. Not sure if they still offer that service. A young Rabbie Burns attended a school in the village which no longer exists, but the site of which is just a short walk away from the pub. You cannot see the river from the pub, but there is a little rough path by the car park that will lead you down to the water. There is also plenty of parking both in front of and behind the pub. Work is underway to create a pleasant little outdoor seating space and a children's play area. Dalrymple is just a few miles off the A77 and easy to find. Watch out for the speed bumps if you drive through the village. I lost count of how many there were, but it was a crazy amount!Would definitely be happy to make a return visit to the Kirkton Inn.

No totally shocking tiny portions kept asking if we were ready to pay when we were still eating felt like going next door to Ferris for a fish supper which we would have been better doing in the first place give it a wide berth
