It was the first time we had been to The Bay since the new owners took over. The last time we were there we were not at all impressed! We were pleasantly surprised with the menu, even though it was reduced due to covid. The haggis fritters and black pudding bonn bonns starter was a meal in itself. The burger was thick and juicy, cooked perfectly with a basket of crispy chips. My wife enjoyed her macaroni cheese, albeit it was penne not macaroni!Staff were pleasant and covid procedures were in place. We will return shortly.

We passed by outside thinking this place looked like it would probably serve standard freezer-to-geezer breadcrumbed goujons but were forced back by necessity. It was our good fortune. The service was relaxed and friendly, even though they were under covid pressure from all angles. The food was really, really good. If a freezer was in any way involved it was very well concealed. The haggis fritters were freshly fried and delicious (unlike their miserable cousins we have“enjoyed” elsewhere in town). The mackerel with horseradish cream was a revelation. The steak was perfectly cooked. Honestly worth a visit. We will definitely go back. Thankyou to the staff for accommodating us at late notice and making us feel so welcome.

Called in on the off chance of sitting down and were lucky. This place didn't show up on Google Maps so were glad to walk past it. The owner recommended a locally produced beer which was really good. The restaurant looked busy and we would like to try it if we are in the area again.

Had a wee cheeky night away, we're a wee bit nervous about covid 19 but found the whole stay, very professional, we stayed in room 1, huge modern, very comfortable. the evening meal was lovely, particularly the Cullen skink, a meal. In itself. I always lopk at the small details, had simple fish and chips, nicely presented, but so tasty, but the tartar sauce was fantastic, 10 out of 10 can't wait to go back

Disappointing visit. Menu very limited (understandable due to COVID-19 situation). All food was very bland - no seasoning at all. Inaccurate description of some dishes - ‘meat tacos’ was actually mince and tatties in a taco... no spice and very little flavour. Sweet chilli chicken was more like a sweet and sour sauce. Battered chicken tasted like fish - perhaps tainted by using the same oil?Overall did not meet expectations at all! Would not recommend. Only meal out of our trip and it was a waste.

We popped into the small, dog-friendly bar in the hope of a bar meal. We received a warm welcome from the bar staff, the locals were friendly and the waiting staff were smiley and friendly too. Our food was delicious; steak pie and slow-cooked belly pork with perfectly cooked vegetables and well-presented, so glad we came here. The exterior of the building does not do the rest of the place justice and in fact if we hadn't had a chat with a couple earlier in the day who told us how good the food was we may have passed by - to our detriment! Next time we visit Kirkcudbright we will definitely eat here. One other comment; I hope that the delightful waiting staff who brought our food washed their hands after fondling our dogs.

Myself and my partner visited the bay this evening for dinner. After placing our order, we were served our started of haggis balls which had obviously been cooked in the same fryer as fish was being cooked as it had a distinct fishy taste. The haggis was placed on a ‘mustard sauce’ which was essentially just wholegrain mustard dolloped on the plate, along with a side salad which was wilted.

Wr ordered food and after 1 hour 15 mins still waiting we asked what was the hold up and what seen to be the manager was rude and ignorant and never found out. We then heard others around complaining and asking for the food to be removed due to overcooked they offered no alternative or replacement. Food when arrived was average. If the guy is the manager he needs to go on a customer service course and we will not go back again.

We have been visiting this hotel for many years for lunch. We have always had a lovely, well cooked and generous meal. Sadly, when we visited last Tuesday the portion was very small, the chips were crispy and hard and looked to be the last ones fried (even though it was only 12:30) and the haddock goujons had very crispy batter and were over fried and dry on the inside. A real disappointment. After many years we will now have to look for somewhere new to visit for lunch !

Fillet steaks were ordered medium well, turned out to be very, very well done....however quality of the meat was very good so steaks were not awfully dry. Lovely little surprise of a restaurant. When we went the first time it was through the week so it was quiet. We visited this establishment for lunch today. We has fish and chips and their scallops en croute dish. Fish and chips were delightful. The scallops dish however was quite far off the mark. The pastry was not wholly cooked, the bisque was a distant relative of any proper fish bisque and the roasted veg were boiled and steamed and had lost their flavour. Potatoes are what they are, ok but the amount coupled with the veg were just not enjoy full.

Visited here on a bank holiday Sunday, and admittedly they were busy. The bar was doing a good trade with the football on, and our drinks were well made and arrived quickly. Unfortunately this is about as far as I can praise this venue. After ordering our food took nearly an hour to arrive. I opted for the belly pork, however it came over cooked- and was mostly fat. The meat was very chewy and not appealing. My veg was also made up of steamed cabbage, with some carrots, not the roast veg selection on the menu. The mash tasted okay, but was noticeably lumpy. Our food arrived after the end of the lunch service (despite being ordered 35 minutes beforehand!) so my assumption is that the chef was simply tired at the end of a service and my food slipped through the necessary QC. The young waiter came to collect our plates and noticed mine was mostly untouched- I did feed back my comments about the pork, however no adjustments were made to the bill. It’s possible we just caught them on a bad day, but the nearby Selkirk Arms in my experience is a much safer bet for a very similar price.

Haddock and chips were piping hot and had a beautiful colour and flavour - chips reminded me of the good old days when they were cooked in beef fat. My linguini was topped with a good number of king prawns and amount of cubed salmon, the sauce was (I think) made with prawn stock and lots of cream with a subtle hint of (again I think) tarragon. My husband and I had come up from Carlisle and having arrived around lunchtime, wanted to eat. This seemed a likely place and although we turned up at 1310, in August, on a sunny Saturday, we were able to be given a table in a very pleasant dining area, which, however, quickly filled up. Always, in our book, the sign of a good establishment. We were welcomed and shown to our place (which we chose) and were given a very comprehensive menu by a charming and courteous waitress who answered questions fully and knowledgeably. My husband sensibly had only a main course, we shared a pudding, and I had the scallops for a starter. Yum! Portions were generous and the chef was clearly a good one. We sent our compliments to the kitchen. We had a very decent bottle of wine between us, and were very pleasantly surprised by the relatively small size of the final bill. It's passed our test. We'd come again!

We dropped in to the hotel around 1800 and were lucky to get a table as it was well booked for the evening. We ended up seated behind the bar area on the way through to the restaurant and conservatory. Two of us had fish and chips, one had the pork chops and the other a gammon stea, We all agreed we'd never seen such a big gammon steak. The two pork chops were cooked perfectly and the fish and chips was rated as very satisfying. Three of us had starters and we all felt that we couldn't manage a dessert. The staff were helpful about dietary requirements.

Last minute plan to eat out mid-week in Kirkcudbright lead us here. Fitted us in without a booking (although best to book if it's a Friday/Saturday) and simply very impressive, well cooked and presented fish & chips. Good service too. It's really important. Will return next time we're over.

We had our dinner in the Kirkcudbright Bay Hotel on two nights of our visit. The food was good on both occasions and the small bar area was very nice.

Visited the Kirkcudbright Bay Hotel on two occasions during our recent visit to the area. Had drinks and light lunch on the first visit and sat in the outside area at the back of the hotel adjacent to the dining area. The service was excellent, nothing too much trouble for the staff, even happy to refill the water bowl for the dog. Went into bar to order drinks and these quickly delivered to the table for us. Had soup and sandwich combo, just enough for a light lunch at a good price. Our second visit was early evening and we sat outside under the sun canopy again as a very hot sunny day. My husband had seen the fillet steak on the special board earlier in the week, but this was no longer on the board, but chef happily cooked it as requested as he had set his heart on it. Our son had the local fish and chips ,and this arrived with two large pieces of fish, I had a starter of pate as it was too hot for me to eat a full meal, but staff were more than happy to accommodate our requests. All finished with wonderful ice cream sundeas. Service was again excellent, could not fault the food, service or the price. Would certainly recommend, very friendly environment and staff.

On the main road through the village, the Kirkcudbright Bay Hotel is a good choice for an evening meal. The modern conservatory dining room was pleasant and the menu, full of seafood and steaks, was definitely not a pub menu. We had an excellent Fisherman's Platter for a very reasonable price and the food was quite nice. Service was outstanding.

I popped into the Bay hotel on Saturday afternoon for lunch with my husband, daughter and granddaughter, we were greeted in the hotel and escorted to our table in the conservatory, my daughter granddaughter and myself ordered from the light bite menu and my husband ordered from the day menu, the food came and all I can say is Fantastic. The food was excellent, the two girls that served us were polite and professional.I have walked passed this hotel a number of times in the past when I have visited the town however I have never went in to have lunch, it was a really great experience from start to finish.Well done Bay Hotel

The meat of the mixed grill was that chewy I didn't eat it. The cheesecake was no more available despite announced on the main menu at the wall. But the service was fine.

A beautiful setting and very peaceful. The food is excellent and the dining room not too large. Sadly on the day we went the staff were trying to serve the Barbeque area and the dining room which meant that the service was not what it should have been. We will be back and hopefully the service will be as it used to be.

We were having lunch in the restaurant. The service was attentive and friendly and prompt delivery of the pre meal was made. The menu offered a good range of options at £30 for two course. The starters were enjoyed by all with particular praise for the mussels dish. For the main course the roast beef was welcome. I had the fish and chips which were well presented but with one concern. Why serve the dish with chopped up garden peas. There should at least have been a choice of mushy peas. Finally the coffee which was an espresso but it had no crema -unforgivable All in all a good experience

I have eaten here several times but this has to be the best experience. We arrived to celebrate my big sister's birthday and were given a warm welcome. The first thing we noticed was the new decor which is a big improvement. I had Brill served with seasonal vegetables , all of which were perfectly cooked and presented and tasted delicious. A special mention must go the onions rings which were beautifully crisp. We had some Pinot Grigio for the wine which was crisp and dry. For pudding I took rice pudding with red fruits -again a hit.The service was very good and at £185 for 5 people , reasonably priced
