Lovely location and view. However, no high chair… gave me a portable lunch box style boaster seat. And it was dirty and flimsy. Not safe at all for children. I didn’t use it !Ordered pizza cheese and tomato for my son from the children menu.It was a burger bun head with tomato ketchup and cheese. Tasted and looked horrible! Even my 18 month didn’t eat it! He ate the chips only. The roast is standard wasn’t amazing. It is very expensive for you pay for. Guess you pay for the view only.Ordered sparking water.. the boy jus my gave me a bottle no glass what so ever. Asked for some extra napkin he gave me a kitchen blue towel roll and said that’s all they had! Will not be visiting again.

Crab & chips, enjoying an unspoilt view of rolling Surrey hills - perfect. We missed our 1pm slot on a busy Sunday lunchtime but Eamonn gave us a warm welcome and a table on the terrace. Friendly young staff, prompt service (despite being busy) and a chip experience - don't know how they achieve the slightly fluted shape but makes for lovely crunch. Take some cash though - they can't accept tips on the card and lockdown meant none of us had anything to show our appreciation of a thoroughly enjoyable occasion. The waitress spared our blushes, cheerily assuring us that was fine and she was out of the habit of carrying ready money too. Lovely spot, great food, nice staff = 5 star rating.

So me and my partner had our sons karate tournament here in dorking, we searched for many pubs on TripAdvisor and this place looked nice, and I wasn’t wrong. It took us a little while to find out where to park, it is located up a fairly steep hill within some beautiful gardens. We found if you park at the bottom of the hill next to the dual carriage way and walk up to the pub will be best.Once you get to the pub it is breathtaking, absolutely lovely views of the countryside, lovely seating area outside , very well laid out tables with decorative wood furnishings. The owners or management who served us was fantastic and the food was exceptional . I had the Wagyu beef burger and it was amazing and my partner being a vegetarian had the cheese and onion quiche was fantastic. Lots of craft beers , local ales etc…Nothing to fault for us, absolutely loved it here and will be returning soon!!!Many thanks for a lovely meal on 2nd July 2021

We are frequent customers of the pub, however my friends and I will no longer be visiting again. The food was good, however, we received some really foul mannered service you wouldn’t expect from any establishment from one of the managers. The other waitresses were good.We had previously booked for a table outdoors for 6 where we had ask for outdoors specifically as we had at risk friends joining. We were shortly escorted indoors, and when we pointed out that we had asked for an outdoor table the only response was “it’s this or nothing and you can wait on the side”. Throughout the whole dining process the manager (who was not wearing a mask like the other waitresses) would push us to order quicker in an aggressive and inappropriate manner, and we even overheard him telling other waitresses how he thought we were out of line requesting an outdoor table (even though we had booked one) ....whilst he was standing next to our table so we could hear the whole thing. We shortly saw tables outdoors that were available......We used to come frequently, but never again . Avoid this place if you want to be treated like 2nd class citizens.

Firstly, this pub does excellent roasts - really good - tasty, plentiful and definitely a cut above your average pub Sunday offering. The staff - especially a young gentleman who only recently started - are friendly and communicative and very helpful. However, I know this isn't a gastro pub or fine dining but I'd still like to see a more varied menu that either changes regularly or is complimented by a small specials board to add a bit of variety. I've been here 3 times since re-opening, and to be honest - I'm bored with the menu. Everything's ok - the burger, fish and chips.. all decent and fine for lunch or family supper (though a little pricey in my opinion) but not what I call an exciting evening meal. Nachos are very good and a bit different - but I can't eat them every visit! The spinakopita is quite good and a step out of the norm, but if you've visited Greece, you may find it lacking in flavour... and again feels more lunch than dinner to me. If only there could be a steak and a fish/seafood main or maybe duck or similar. Nothing fancy - just quality produce simply cooked. I also think to serve a Hendricks Gin with lemon and not cucumber is poor, but maybe most people aren't bothered. Desserts are rather uninspiring and all a bit dated. I feel that maybe this pub is possibly trading on its location and historical popularity. You have a lot going for you - please don't loose sight of what's important. I want to keep coming but I need a bit of inspiration please!

We found the staff friendly however they really need to pay attention to the garden areas, the grass needed a good cut and there were old bits of rubbish amongst the grass where we sat. We were told not to sit on a larger table as we were only a group of 4 and so you feel a bit like you are welcome as long as you are spending money on food and will be afforded a table depending on how much they think you will spend. Kids pizza turned out to be a burger bun with tomato ketchup and piece of melted cheese on top need to improve.

We arrived having booked and after climbing a very steep garden path (One way system) were shown outside on a cold windy day to a draughty table that we could barely get in to let alone socially distance. The menu was very 'thin' with basically burgers - beef, lamb, chicken, veggie and very little else. No fish no basic meat dishes. Prices were higher than last time £16 for a burger and some overcooked fries I think is taking the mickey. In the end when drinks were served we asked and were reluctantly allowed to eat inside. The meals were served with 3 of us with overcooked fries! Bill - over £100 for a basic lunch with a round of drinks. This is not the William IV we knew before lockdown...Sorry you have lost our trade

I like this pub and my wife and I have had many delightful lunches there with friends............................until yesterday.I know that pubs are struggling post-Covid but this was NOT a good experience. For a start, the steep one-way system rules it out for disabled people, high steps and a steep path. Our pre-booked table was outside. OK in June, unpleasant on a chilly October day. We asked to move inside. No problem with that (but we were the only ones indoors)Then came the menu......................this used to be a good gastropub, the current menu is overpriced burger bar. No fish, no steak, no chicken but four sorts of burger with factory made frozen fries. There were quite a few vegetarian options but nothing that suggested proper "home cooking".The prices were inflated, £16 for a burger fries and garnish is excessive.I know pubs are desperate to recoup losses post-lockdown, but William IV is going about it the wrong way......quality DOWN, prices UPI have had lunch at four other pubs in the past month. All of them were vastly better, even under the current limits.I like this pub as it was, I did not like it as it is now.Good bye, William IV. You are off my list. You are in a competitive business and you are not matching up to your reputation or your competition

I've stopped here for a drink many times over the years when doing the Box Hill hike. It's a lovely spot with a great view from the garden. This time I decided to have a Sunday roast. The waitresses were very nice, the food arrived quickly, but the meal itself was a massive disappointment. The price was £18, which is at the top end of the range for a roast in a pub, so I expected a top end roast. One side of the plate was empty except for a thin layer of orange pureed vegetable (I never worked out what the orange puree was as there was too little to taste). There were 3 vegetables: a few sliced carrots, some pickled red cabbage and 2 small pieces of cauliflower. The carrots and cabbage tasted nice. I'm not sure if the cauliflower was supposed to be cauliflower cheese, if it was there was too little sauce to taste. There were 3 small, barely roasted potatoes. On top of the vegetables were 3 wafer thin slices of beef and a medium sized Yorkshire pudding. Top top things off was a miserable little dribble of gravy. I've never had so little gravy on a Sunday roast. Overall the size of the meal was so small that it could have been made by Weightwatchers. It didn't fill me up at all. I've had a lot of Sunday roasts in country pubs this Summer, this was by far the worst as well as the most expensive.

I can’t tie in the rave reviews on here for this pub with our experience.Yes, the views are great, no doubt about that, and the set-up in the garden is pretty, and the young ladies serving were polite, etc, though we had only short exchanges with them. The food was the problem. The quality per se and the quality in relation to the prices, eg I had a school dinner standard slice of cheese quiche with fries and a handful of salad. The fries were only given because I pointed out that the meal as it stood: quiche and salad (with no fries) was £14 (!) and that was a bit steep! Not much! So they gave me some fries with it. Come on, £14 for quiche and salad?! And as I say, the quiche was no better than school dinner or supermarket standard. The salad was ok, fairly uninspiring, the fries were fine. By the by, be careful of the salt cellars - I took the lid off and turned it upside down to put some salt on my salad and a lot of very large salt grains left from the previous use fell onto my salad and made half of it inedible. And note salt cellars - not very COVID-clever. Talking of which, there was no track and tracing there, which there was in another pub garden I ate in lately. My dad’s baguette with good ham in it, with crisps on the side, was fine, he said, though I guess it should have been for £11! £11 for a baguette and some crisps. Unreal again. The other prices were also silly, for non-gastro and not even good pub food: eg 16.50 for burger and chips. I told the waitress my meal was really disappointing. She said sorry but that was that. The manager didn’t come over to ask anything about our meal or apologise. He was busy chatting to the staff and the regulars, not worrying about passing trade like us. If we pass again, we won’t be going in again.

A spur of the moment Sunday lunch with excellent vegan burger and great service from Abi and Charlotte in the newly opened side garden. It was a lovely, long awaited pint of Shere Drop too.

Last night, we visited the King William IV for the first time in many years. Despite the cooler weather and that all seats are currently outside (with covering for rain or intense sunshine) it was a real pleasure to be here and enjoy the view across to Norbury Park. The welcome from the lively Chloe and Abby was very warm and friendly, and they continued in much the same way throughout our visit. Food was lovely, the individual home-made quiche was excellent as was the lamb burger. Washed down with some excellent wine and local beer made for a good meal out, and al at very good prices. We will be heading back there soon and not waiting years before enjoying a meal there again

We went for supper after a walk in the Surrey Hills. The pub garden has stunning views over the countryside. Anna and Charlotte our waitresses were brilliant - noticing whenever we wanted something, without being intrusive. The crab salad with fries and ploughmans were excellent - fresh, tasty and arrived quickly.Every outside table has a huge umbrella so it would be ok in the rain or if very hot outside. Highly recommended

Highly recommend King William IV for their warm welcome, beautiful garden setting and good food. They have put thought and effort into their set-up post-covid with a one-way system, sanitiser on entry, sanitised menus, table service, loos and friendly staff. If you are out for a walk in Box Hill, this is a great spot!

Really great to see the King William IV is still open! The pub is fully Covid compliant with a one-way system in place in the gardens. Was greeted by a member of staff who then passed us on to Abby who seated the 4 of us in the 'overflow' garden and took our order. Service was great and was good to chat to her and see how the pub/staff were coping with the new restrictions in place. Really pleased to hear that the patrons had come back! Abby looked after us with food and drink orders ,even rounding up colleagues to help her! Can't wait to come back for another visit soon and again,so pleased that they have survived this difficult period, as they fully deserve to!!!

Despite the weather had another lovely lunch under the table umbrella. Tony was his usual hilarious self donning a bin bag to serve people. Food was absolutely amazing, had the mixed ploughmans again which doesn't fail to impress. Thoroughly recommend a visit - come rain or shine!

Great garden space beautifully kept. Indoors not currently open. Very pleasant and attentative service especially by Tony and the young lady. The squid tempura was excellent. So incredibly fresh and flavoursome. Felt very safe one way in and one way out. Only comment is this pub is up steep steps and this could be an issue for some. Lots of people walking in so I would suggest booking in advance. Easy to park in front of the Frascati restaurant just off the main road.

Possibly the best peroni I've ever had in my entire life. The taps must be a wonder of the modern world. Fantastic tipple of the ol' taste buds I'll never be able to go back. It's all downhill from here. Oh god.

After 4 months with a large lack of draught larger, finding a local pub with amazing views and top quality pints was a must. Enter the King William IV. Upon arrival it was very good to see the pub was following precautions related to the COVID virus such as a one way system, table survice and hand sanitization. The pint of Peroni was was amazing and I could not recommended this establishment more. Cheers to Tony, just what this man needed.

Lived in Dorking for ages and never discovered this lovely place before. Unpretentious, cosy and very friendly, with a good menu of both meaty and veggie options, without being gastro. A new regular for us!

I took my mum back to this pub after a few years. It was cosy and welcoming and the food service was quick and delicious. My mum wanted to watch the rugby and the landlord invited her to join him and his family. The girls at the bar (Chloe and Abigail) kept the place spotlessly clean and were kind and attentive. The summer jazz nights sound great- can't wait for another fruity gin. Definitively one of my favorite pubs ever.

A small, quaint, old pub with roast dinners on the menu at £17.95 and good reviews. We hedged our bets but came away losers. The starters we tried: calamari which was fresh, well cooked and very nice, chicken goujons, over cooked and bland. Garlic bread with cheese - apparently well received. Mains of roast lamb, roast beef and nachos with beef chunks and special sauce, much less so. The lamb was very nice, cooked slowly and tender. The potatoes had obviously been par boiled, with a heavy emphasis on the par and then tossed in the pan with no fat, oil or flavour. They were not soft, crispy or tasty. The Yorkshires were big, tasteless and offered nothing. The vegetables were cooked in butter or marg with no seasoning and the gravy tasted of less than bisto. So very disappointing. It was a cold day and the door next to our table didn't close unless the person using it, closed it. So for the dozen or so times that staff, smoking drinkers or the landlord walked through and let it fall back on its own, there was a six inch gap for us to feel the January air. The older gent who greeted us was at least friendly, everyone else including the landlord offered no warmth or interest in us. Suffice to say, we will not be going back.
