Kimaya Noodle & Sushi Bar in St Albans

Ordered delivery via deliveroo. Soba noodle and Pad Thai too too too salty. Sushi doesn't taste fresh. Soy source awful. If you have to eat their sushi, use your own soy source.

I done the order take way food Sushi Plates it was disaster 😩. It didn't feel like and tasty like a nice and fresh food and it was from the supermarket package. The fish and salmon smell very bad.The rice was very bad tasty I throw straight away in the bin

Yesterday I ordered lunch via Deliveroo which arrived hot and in the time frame however thats all the was good, the freshness and quality of food was terrible. Ive never experienced hard chewy rice on sushi rolls before, was like chewing gum texture. The Yakitori chicken was also hard and stringy texture which I can confidently can say from eating alot of Japanese food this food has been sitting around for a while. I called the restuarant and owner didnt accept my concerns about the food and said it was freshly made (clearly not!) and said to raise with Deliveroo however Deliveroo dont look after customer disputes for this restuarant. I would not recommend this restuarant!

My favourite place to get food in St.Albans. The masamun curry is delish and the starters are all super yummy.

No staff apparently to give taste card discount. Pay full price because no staff. Not sure how that makes any sense at all. AVOID!

In a conscious effort to support local independent businesses, I have tried takeaway from Kimaya 3 times. Each time has been a different dish and each time has been progressively worse. Any restaurant that has this many dishes of varying cuisines on their menu simply cannot make anything well. I should have expected this to be honest. My last dish (and last attempt to order from Kimaya) was so bad that it sadly went straight into the bin. The dish lacked any of the vegetables listed in the description on the menu and tasted worse than a jar of ready made sauce you can pick up from the supermarket, which is very disappointing.

I ordered while I was super hungry as everything else was pretty much close around my town. On the good side - you're hungry, you get sorted. On the bad side - if you are respecting your taste buds, stomach and so on...i wouldn't recommend it. By the way, I did not order just one dish - I had 4 stuff ordered so in case something went bad, I could have an alternative. But all failed. At least I am not hungry anymore. Will see tomorrow how I ll feel. :-P

The food didnt taste like japanese food at all. More like a generic chinese approxiamation of japanese food. Youre probably better going to asian chains. The price was premium but the food was low quality.

Poor poor chef answers the phone doesn’t understand English takes my card details wrong then someone called Ronnie calls back saying card machine gone wrong etc etc not your card just seemed all a little dogey to me. Avoid.

So, I use to go to this restaurant since it opened, but since Covid came and it was closed I decided I will go the second it opens. I went in and they said it is only take away, considering that the restrictions are not anymore in place any all the other restaurants are open. Anyway. I order 2 seafoods ramen and when I got home it looked completely different from what it used to look like. It had sour cream in and made it disgusting. I tried it anyway, but it was awful and decided to trow it away. I spend 30£ on nothing. It was horrible and both me and my partner had to went to the doctor the following day as we experienced high stomach pain. I won’t go there anymore and I do recommend you not to go there. Horrible experience.

So expensive for what it is, really need to reduce their prices as you're paying restaurant prices for takeaway quality food. Won't order again because of this. Lots of cheaper competition.

Ordered on Deliveroo but the food was absolutely disgusting. I couldn’t even eat the main dish that I had ordered as the sauce was so foul. The miso soup tasted stale and old. I still feel sick the day after, avoid this place at all costs.

We waited hours just for our order to be cancelled. When we called they didn't apologise, didn't offer to take our order. And blamed everybody but themselves, when we asked why this has happened they were obtuse and disrespectful. Very disappointed and will never order from here again.

We’ve been their customers for years but recently the food went really downhill. Overcooked vegetables, smelly fish in monkey fish curry…. Not a pleasant experience. When you call they just laugh… right will be ordering from elsewhere.

The food was horrible. We ordered from just eat and we are really disappointed. The chicken gyoza ramen tasted burnt and had no good parts in it whatsoever. Both of us feel sick after eating it. Would not recommend to anyone. The only good part was the delivery man who was on time and very kind. The food had the most sickening taste, smell and looks. If I had to guess, this was not cooked by real Japanese people.

Noodle soup, costing £10+, was made with an instant noodle soup packet. they even have the nerve to include the powder sachet with the food. This is Thai pot noodles that cost 50p in the shop - outrageous! Fake food. Shameful

Made a big order of sushi: the rice didn't seem to be properly cooked and the portions were small. The only items that stood out were the temaki handrolls. The staff got our order wrong and we find out only once we got home, thankfully has been refunded promptly, reason why I gave 2 stars instead of 1. Go somewhere else!

Complete rip off! Over £20 on a box measuring 3x5 inches. Tiny sushi. 3 of the salmon and avocado hosomaki had no avocado and the rest had a sliver. Their competitors are definitely more value for money. Avoid!!

We ordered quite a big amount of food for a birthday take away treat and the food was lovely! Yakitori chicken was a bit dry but our sushi and tempura was gorgeous.. I've never had a bad experience with Kimaya (i've only ever had take outs) so I can't comment on the restaurant experience.Delivery was within the allotted time slot and everything was eaten. Wouldn't hesitate to use again.

Really disappointed by the service we received following the second time we ordered a delivery. We ordered a delivery through their website as it offers a discount rather than going through just-eat. They forgot to deliver one dish from the order and then refused to reimburse the money (for the dish not delivered). Disappointed because we quite liked the food, but management like this where there is an element of cheating in that there is a refusal to payback all the money owed is simply an alarm bell for me to suggest that this is not a local business worth supporting!

Pretty Terrible. Ordered two bento boxes. Mostly rice, very tiny, small portions of the main. I think the carrots in my main were previously frozen out of a package - they were spongy. I literally had five pieces of lettuce in my "salad" which was part o the bento. Definitely not worth the price. I could have had a better meal from the M&S food hall. Also ordered the sushi set. 9 pieces of sushi. The hot dumplings were in the same container as the cold sushi. DEFINITELY not worth the price. Really stupid mistake spending nearly £25 on this miserable meal. I should have gone to a proper restaurant.

We have ordered a take away, sat in the park close to the address given. Tasty food as always, this time we have ordered noodles, generous portions, although always short on vegetables. It would be nice to get some chopsticks with our order too.Otherwise very tasty

The quantity, quality and customer service at this restaurant Is absolutely appalling DO NOT go here. we got this takeaway for a family of 5 and we were not satisfied and had to call up and the customer service was extremely rude.

Good food but worms in their broccoli in the mixed veg stirfry :( I've had two meals with the same issue. Take some time to properly prepare the veg and ensure we don't have "extra" protein - then I'll be happy to give you 5 stars

I've been here before in the restaurant but never ordered takeaway. It was really tasty but unfortunately I did find a hair in my food which put me off. Just raises alarm bells over hygiene levels.

Just ordered through deliveroo. Food was bland and average. They had also mixed hot food next to the cold food which I have never seen before. Very expensive for the quality of the food. Wouldn't order again.

Noodle dishes, especially the Pad thai are delicious, one of the best ones I have ever had! The veggie ramen is nice too. The staff is very friendly. I woudnt recommend the sushi though, I had it once and wasn’t that good.

Love this place! It’s quite small and maybe not the place for a romantic dinner but is the perfect place for casual dining. Great sushi, calamari and Thai curries!

I had a really lovely service here recently. I’ve been going for years and the food is really good. On Monday got 50% off my bill which was pretty nice too but I would reccomend you book gets busy. Would really reccomend the spicy Singapore noodles are probably their best dish.

Place Is nice with very nice staff. I had a take away so my opinion might be diffient then sitting down, but the chicken curry had massive chunks of chicken that I never had in my life, so it was very odd to see such a massive piece of chicken. Overall was good but just the massive pieces made the experience not very nice.

Great local sushi and noodle bar. On my visit the service was great and the waitress was helpful and smiling.

Another great meal here last night, normally come here for the sushi which is excellent, but last night we all had various noodle / ramen dishes, all of which were excellent. Super value and friendly service. Absolutely knocks spots off Wagamama etc.

What a fantastic place. I went with my son and his friend for a bite to eat. I couldn’t have been a better place. My son had the noodles. His friend has the Katsu curry. He said it was the best he’s ever had (and apparently he has it every time he goes out)! My gyoza and sushi were delicious. Great service and good value for money with large portions. Would totally recommend.

Initially we saw the restaurants advert in the cinema programme but we decided to pop in for the £4.99 ramen soup noodle offer they have advertised out the front of the restaurant (which is massive, a full portion) and some sushi to share as we havent had sushi in a long time. The lunch time bits are definitely good, they offer a main and a drink or a bento box for £8.99. The wait wasnt long for our food and it all tasted great so we will be returning before going to the cinema (next time we go there) to try their sushi set offer £7.99 and you get a starter with that sushi too!

I went to this place on a Monday during their 50% off evenings. However I also received 50% off customer service aswell. The waiter serving us was rude and obnoxious. Won’t be dining there again.

Came here for the Monday half price. I've been coming to this place for years. And everytime I come I've noticed a change. Their quality slowly dropping and their service not so great. Today I saw why. We wanted fine in and take some food on take away, however we were refused, as it's only dine in. When we decided to take our left overs home (like normal people who don't like wastage), the guy was very rude about it, he made a point that we ordered too much. Not only that, throughout our time at the restaurant he kept watching us and making us feel uncomfortable. He refused one of his staff member to let us take our food home, as it's dine in only for half price day and they don't do takeaways. I asked what would you do with? Serve it so someone else or throw is away. They would apparently throw is away. In a time where we are trying to prevent food wastage this place is filled with greed that they would rather throw away unwanted food than let the paying customer take their food home! Unless they were trying to reserve the food we didn't eat. What baffled me is that we are paying for our meal and service and to be treated like that was beyond disgusting. The other gentleman apologiesed, but he denied he was rude. It's a disgrace people with low morals like this are even around the food industry. Certainly won't be going again and won't be recommending this dump to anyone.

Best Thai/Japanese restaurant in St Albans! We have been there today during our lunch break and we have loved the food and the service, very friendly and helpful staff! Would totally recommend it! Specially good for the 8.99 lunch offer! Loved the noodles! We will be back soon!

Disgusting Greasy spicy calamari , their was around a cm of dirty oil at the bottom of the container .Sushi was equally disgusting and warm because they put it in the same place as hot food .Noodles tasteless also .Complete waste of money .

Despite the poor reviews we decided to give Kimaya a try as there are no decent sushi alternatives in St Albans.We ordered quite a range of Uramaki, Sushi, Sashimi and more. However, one thing was consistent. They all lacked flavour. Normally I find the seaweed a little strong, but here it had almost no taste. Likewise the salmon. Even the Wasabi was very weak and lacking punch.I can only conclude that this is intentional and Kimaya are targeting UK customers who want a commercialised version of Sushi rather than the full authentic flavours. For this reason, Kimaya is not a place we will return to. We prefer slightly more authentic flavours (even Yo Sushi is a big improvement).

Just ordered the Laksa what a bad move, have eaten Laksa all over the globe and was excited to find someone advertising it in St Albans. Was hesitant about paying £13.50 plus 40p surcharge although thought it MUST be equal to real thing I have eaten in the Southern Hemisphere, sadly not. It arrived in two containers, one with rice noodles and one with an abundance of liquid completely the wrong colour to what I know. It tasted like red Thai curry soup with 2 rubber bits of squid, 4 over cooked rubber prawns and two muscles in their shells. Overpriced rubbish that was NOT LAKSA

Looking for something kid friendly on a Sunday evening we ventured into Kimaya...once seated we saw the poor reviews but stayed anyway. Food was good, service was a bit slow but the waitress was very nice and the restaurant was clean. Wouldn’t make it my go-to place, but would visit again.

Visited here before the cinema. Had about 45 mins so looked for a quick option, and Kimaya looked clean and interesting. I had a chicken Raman, which was great. The beans sprouts were crunchy, which was really good. My wife had salmon and seaweed which were also very good. Recommended.

I had heard some poor reviews from colleagues of Kimaya, since I work at the bottom of the road and they'd had many lunch/dinner breaks to give it a try. I saw a sign for £4.99 ramen, however, and thought I'd give them a chance to prove themselves again.

The chicken did not taste like chicken, it was like those wierd over cooked meats you get from a cheap take away. The dish cost £10, so definitely paying well above the standard that was delivered. Maybe because it’s monday night, where they they do 50% off for people who eat at the restaurant, so the standards drop accordingly. Won’t be going there again.

We've ordered the seafood Yaki Soba & seafood Pad Talay and were there broken pieces of mussel shells we kept choking on. This is very bad and dangerous. I'm reporting this to the FSA as we speak.
