Khamsa in Lambeth

The owner is a very nice person with bright ideas and encouraging personality. We had a chat with him about Algerian and Amazigh culture and he is a lovely person. I had a taste of salad platter and the food was amazing. After that I tried the milk dessert which is very similar to Sutlach, but it was tastier than the Turkish one. The design of the restaurant also looks very traditional and it pulls you in. I would love to go again!🥰

It is clear the chef has a lot of passion and pride in his cuisine. This was Michelin star ! and definitely the best Algerian restaurant I know of in London. The place is also nice and cosy with authentic traditional Algerian decor symbols and music Highly recommended! Sam

All I can do is reiterate what the previous positive reviews have said - lovely North African food in a small cozy restaurant that feels like stepping back into Algeria. The food was beautifully fresh and the starter sharing plate in particular was fantastic. I’m not normally a big fan of deserts but the rice pudding was divine. Don’t forget it’s a BYO.

I reserved the beautiful downstairs room for my 28th birthday party for 16 people. It was an absolutely wonder night - the space was perfect, so beautifully decorated and private, an everyone was seated around two tables, so easy to mingle as a group! The food was absolutely stunning, and there was more than enough - such lovely chicken and vegetarian tagine, coucous and a range of delicious sides. We brought our own prosecco and beer, and the owner and all staff were incredibly accommodating. I couldn't have asked for a a better place for a low-key, friendly birthday party. Huge thanks

This has been on my list for sometime, so myself and four friends booked to go. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and very atmospheric. The food is exceptional, and Djamel a welcoming and superb host. Can’t recommend Khamsa enough, will definitely return

We visited this restaurant this evening and wow, we were not disappointed! I am of distant North African heritage and can honestly say this is the best Tagine I have ever eaten in London. The Chef is clearly passionate and proud of his food.Every mouthful of food was a pleasure! The only negative is we don’t live close by, if we did, I think we’d eat here every day! What a wonderful place. Food smelt and tasted wonderful…just enough spice to make it tasty and warm but not hot. We had a group so sat downstairs which is a great space. The chef brought the food and was around to chat. Went because it was a friend’s local…we are planning to go back on a work do as so reasonable and such a nice evening had. Highly recommend!

En primer lugar, la decoración es increíble, realmente te sientes como si estuvieras comiendo en Argelia con música tradicional y elementos en la pared. Fuimos recibidos por Djamel, que estaba solo, era muy conversador y muy interesado en el lugar de donde veníamos mi novia y yo y tuvimos una agradable charla. Cocina frente a ti y charlaba con nosotros mientras cocinaba (fuimos los primeros en entrar esa noche). El primer plato era increíble y muy sabroso. Una buena ventaja de este restaurante es que es BYOB. Teníamos el tangine de pollo como plato principal, otra porción generosa y muy sabroso.Por último y más sabroso fue el postre que Djamel nos dejó degustar más temprano por la noche, arroz con leche de papaya y zanahoria. Estaba un poco escéptico antes de probarlo, pero honestamente puedo decir que este es el budín de mejor sabor que he probado, lo digo sinceramente, fue increíble. Djamel admitió más tarde que comía tres al día, puedo ver por qué. Todo esto llegó a un poco menos de 60, excelente relación calidad-precio. La zona de la planta baja se veía acogedora y olía increíble también. Este es un restaurante de barrio realmente bueno y recomendaría a cualquiera que lo apoye.

Mi esposa y yo vinimos aquí para celebrar nuestro tercer aniversario de bodas. Esta fue nuestra primera visita a un restaurante desde que comenzó la pandemia de COVID - 19. El restaurante tenía todas las medidas de seguridad en su lugar, lo cual fue genial de ver. Ambos pensamos que la COMIDA FUE ESPECTACULAR (¡y mi esposa está obsesionada con la comida del norte de África y sabe lo que hace!). La decoración era íntima y acogedora, sin ser demasiado indulgente. El ambiente era increíblemente relajado. Djamal, el propietario, es un tipo tan talentoso y humilde que nos hizo sentir muy bienvenidos. A pesar de ser los últimos en esa noche, no nos apresuró a salir. Aniversario perfecto. Un lugar fantástico, con la más cálida bienvenida. ¡La comida estaba increible! Probé el cuscús vegetariano y quedé muy impresionado. Una hermosa montaña de exquisitez, repleta de sabor. Me encantó el poderoso golpe de las especias, el sabor cítrico de la hierba de limón, la dulzura de las almendras, las fechas y los albaricoques. Y el pan Khobz estaba fuera de este mundo, perfecto para absorber los hermosos jugos del tajine. Para el postre, recomendaría el pastel Khobz el bey (el sabor del azahar con almendras y maní es para morirse) con un refrescante té de menta. El chef tiene un talento increíble y es muy amable, no puedo esperar para volver a visitarlo :)

Visited for the first time last night with a group of friends and what a lovely meal. Very flavoursome, reasonably priced and Djamal was happy to educate on the Amazigh.

Ate here last night with 6 of my closest friends and without fail everyone of us LOVED our main courses. Flavoursome, engaging, and rich in exquisite spices the food was a delight. The ambience was inch perfect too with all manner of Algerian artefacts adorning the walls and some authentic berber music playing in the background. Being BYO the bill was manageable and represented good value at just over $25 a head before our self imposed tip.

El anfitrión fue muy amable y acogedor, nos dio recomendaciones y nos visitó regularmente junto con otro servidor que también fue encantador. La comida era absolutamente deliciosa, éramos cuatro, teníamos la fuente de ensalada para comenzar que venía con 7 pequeños platos para probar y pan casero, luego para los platos principales tuve el salmón picante en pasta filo que era tan bueno y una gran porción . Probé el tagine vegetariano de mi amigo, que también estaba delicioso y otro tenía albóndigas, todos muy satisfechos. Luego, para terminar, tuvimos tés tradicionales de menta. What a surprise! A real hidden gem, lovely atmosphere, owner/chef is single handedly running the show and producing amazing food. Have also tried all desserts despite not being a sweet lover, they were each Devine! Will return for sure. BYO is a massive bonus.

Voici un resto dans le quartier de Brixton qui mérite que l'on s'y arrête. Nous y sommes allés en famille : ma tajine de boulette était excellente, parfaitement épicée, et le couscous moderne a plus que contenté mari et enfants. Tout est fait maison ici, les produits sont frais, rien à redire! Le patron parle français et il est très accueillant, on s'y sent bien. Je recommande!

We loved our special evening with interesting friendly owner/host. Atmosphere authentic with quirky collection of Algerian ‘stuff’. Freshly crushed apple or pear juice and rose tea was a great change from the usual alcoholic choices, though you can take your own bottle.

My partner and I stumbled upon the place completely randomly and what a surprise that was. Beautifully decorated place, lovely atmosphere with Algerian music, Jamal the owner is really warm and helpful in recommending dishes. The food was really nice and we absolutely loved it. (I'm also French Algerian and I can vouch for the "authentic " taste) You have to go!

Went with my friends for a weekday dinner, would absolutely reccomed it. The food was amazing, we had the veggie dish, the chicken skewers with cous cous and the sweet potato chicken dish, all are so so good. Portions were good too, we could barely finish it. The owner (?) was so friendly, and I would say at ease that it was one of the best places in London I’ve been to. Thank you!!

I have never tried Algerian food and was suggested this restaurant by a friend. I had to book a table for two via OpenTable website. I had a meat dish with couscous and my friend had vegetarian dish with bread. The drinks we had were mint water and rose mint tea, for dessert we had traditional Algerian sweets and mini cakes with Algerian tea. Overall the food was okay and I perceive Algerian food is similar to Moroccan food.

Been a customer for years. My fiancé and I decided to invite both our families to a mini engagement dinner. Service was ok. Upon clearing the table after we’ve finished the starters, dropped a dirt knife on one of our guest’s pants -which are now stained for good- and his reaction was “oh s**t”. We had two young kids with us and now they’ve picked the word up. Happened twice.

Fui allí esta noche con mi novia sin saber qué esperar y Khamsa no me decepcionó. La comida era absolutamente genial, y el intercambio de arranque siempre un variado y refrescante y expectativas sin duda amuse bouche ubicada para el plato principal. Pedimos el cuscús y el moderno de espinacas salmón. Los peces físicamente a la izquierda mi novia sin palabras y húmeda! La sutileza de las Especias argelino, junto con la las texturas de suaves, pasteles de salmón fresco y extraño, guisantes con la intensidad de sabor similar al de un petit no perfeccionado poi a la francais era bastante algo. Pedí el moderno cuscús, que de nuevo era rica en texturas y muy generoso en su cantidad de carne y de nuevo entregado en sabor, ya que era evidente que se ha permitido a un liberal en pudín aromático y emocionante 2.56 del norte de África. Incluso aquí, la atención a los detalles y no estaba permitido dejar. Hecha a mano (un auténtico cuscús mullidas de revelación, ampliaciones en algunos graves secos caniche, Bombo tocador Pantene Pro v) y el plato de tagine salsa poco eran toques de inspiración. Terminamos la comida con una taza de té argelino que estaba bien recomendado y la paleta ideal limpiador.

Lo recomiendo encarecidamente! La comida es completamente delicioso y el propietario es un anfitrión maravilloso. Por un precio tan bueno! Alquilamos una planta del restaurante para una gran fiesta y el propietario no podría haber sido más acogedor y atento. Tan bueno! !

Tuve una fantástica cena aquí con algunos amigos hace unos meses! Su menú no es extenso, pero esto significa que entre el 4 de nosotros nos pudimos probar algunos de sus platos, los cuales estaban deliciosos! El personal es muy atento y amable, y la decoración y el ambiente era relajante y divertida. Sin duda lo recomiendo y sin duda volveremos!

Fui a cenar con mi novio a este restaurante, ya que había leído críticas muy buenas. Cuando entramos, el chico nos dijo que no había ensaladas disponibles en todo (había una variedad de al menos 7), así que sólo el plato principal estaba disponible para la cena.

Hoy tuve una gran experiencia con mi amigo! La decoración es increíble, la cultura árabe argelina está presente, la música es muy relajante, pero lo más importante es la comida y su presentación. Tenía una mezcla de platos entrantes en un plato bonito y que era tan salomon deliciosa y boca de fusión. Mi amigo optamos por cuscús con carne a la parrilla y pollo/merguez, realmente me encantó. Title says it all. You do have to pay by cash though, however you can also bring your own alcohol. It was a little empty when I visited, but the warm decor, and engaging staff, really contributed to the feel of the joint. It was an enjoyable experience, will go again.

I came with my boyfriend for his birthday meal. The owner is a character and very chatty. All the food he makes is homemade including this amazing algerian bread. Food is tasty and plentiful. Highly recommend this place for real North African cuisine.

Khamsa is well worth your time and money. Bring cash and, if you want, alcohol (none is served here). You don't feel like a customer here; you feel like a guest. The host/owner/manager/chef/waiter is a lovely guy who clearly knows what he wants: friendly customers enjoying a semi-private, relaxed (and great tasting) dinner in an authentic atmosphere.I hope to return very soon!

The owner of this restaurant was so rude and aggressive we left before we had even ordered. There are so many lovely places to go in Brixton. This is not one of them.

I booked a table for 15 for the set menu, the owner was very accommodating despite last minute changes of plan. The food was delicious and very good value for money at £17 per person (including corkage fee- BYOB) for 2 courses - especially so close to Christmas. I especially liked the cous cous and spicy meatball dish. Unlike many other restaurants in london there is no need to leave a deposit for big groups, and we had the downstairs room to ourselves which was perfect for a birthday celebration. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will defnitely go again! Thank you so much

Came here for a party - we were served a variety of sharing dishes, traditional Algerian food. The vegetarian options were a little disappointing - we had two different types of cous cous, and a vegetable tagine. Neither of them were outstanding - just okay. The freshly baked bread however was amazing! I could have eaten the whole plate (but I didn't, because that's just greedy). The dessert - a type of cake - was a bit too sweet for my liking.The surroundings and atmosphere was lovely though - beautiful cloth draped around the walls, and an intimate setting. Other diners didn't find the shabby chic look very appealing though.Also, the chef had a bit of attitude. I wouldn't go back here again.

We had a wonderful time at Khamsa. I decided to hold our company Christmas Party there, so it was a large group of us (22) and Djamel was incredibly thoughtful and accommodating for our quite dysfunctional group.His attention to detail and humour made the evening, as did the delicious food and intimate space he gave us downstairs. He bought us flowers for the table upstairs, and managed to serve our whole group despite the train strike leaving him on his own for the evening.I would recommend Khamsa highly to anyone who wants a delicious, low key dinner that is uniquely special and welcoming.Thanks Djamel! You're the greatest!

We came here for a mini celebration for the first time after being tempted by its mysterious red curtains :D With an Algerian owner, the food came with a colourful blend and the taste of North Africa. This place transports you to the warmth and rhythm of a magical place.Presentation was astonishing and authentic, the recipes were deliciously unique and the owner was incredibly welcoming. We will definitely be back soon! Comes highly recommended.

We had a lovely time at Khamsa, great atmosphere and excellent food. Shared the starter platter which was delicious and couscous with lamb and chicken for a main, also excellent. Portions were generous and service was very attentive and we felt very welcome by the owner.

An unexpected treat: an Algerian restaurant in Brixton. Excellent authentic Algerian food served in an atmospheric interior on a corner in Acre Lane. No problem in bringing in your own bottles. Friendly, welcoming, with good service. Much to be recommended if you like to try something exotic and unusual.

Small restaurant serving authentic north African food in a setting that is characterful without being 'ethnic' good menu, not too extensive, it is all being cooked while you wait. No licence but off-licence across the road and perfect service, courteous and friendly not effusive -and v reasonable prices.

Went to have dinner in there a couple of weeks ago my wife. The restaurant is beautiful and we welcomed very warmly straight away. We initially wanted to sit downstairs but it was fully booked, so we sat upstairs which was still very good. Food was delicious, portions were great, starters were amazing and the atmosphere was overall very good. Definitely recommend, a lot of efforts is invested in Khamsa which is what makes it a great place to have dinner at.

First of all we had booked a table here for 7pm and we arrived only 10 minutes late.Owner comes up to us and I told him I'd reserved a table for 7, he got out his mobile phone to check the time and grimaced and shook his head.I mean hello??!!?? If we were 45 minutes or 12 days and 2 hours late-fine, grimace away-but 10 minutes, seriously?There could be traffic, or public transport issues-or maybe the place is difficult to find. People don't often turn up to a booking 10 minutes late for no reason...We were then taken to a table, my partner was standing trying to find a place to place his coat, the owner came up to him and asked 'are you alright?' in an off hand way.The vibe in this restaurant was weird, there was something off here and we didn't like the attitude of the owner.We didn't stay so I cannot comment on the food-instead we went to a much better restaurant Bamboula, where the staff were very friendly, attentive and polite, and we got a great service.

The food was amazing; the place was nice and the owner lovely: couldn't have picked a better BYOB for a birthday meal for a group of 12. Thanks so much!

Went here expecting great things and received nearly great things. It is not that cheap; add to that a new £2 corkage fee, and the nice mid-week slap up meal we'd anticipated was a bit pricey.The food was good. The salmon dish particularly nice. My friends were disappointed with slightly dry meat skewers. Had to pay for a side of couscous. There were no salads available on the night which was a shame as they looked delicious.The service was ok. The owner is clearly very passionate about his business.Overall for the price I'd expect a few more frills and benefits, but I appreciate that it's a difficult time to run a local business in Brixton.

Had a great night here, food was authentic algerian food, delicious, great value. Definitely did not leave hungry - portion size is good too. Recommend!
