As a Vietnamese person, I am critical when it comes to banh mi but Keu has to be the most authentic and the only place in london who gets right with the actual banh mi itself crispy yet soft on the inside, with flavourful ingredients to top it off. My favourite is the original or the “I would also recommend the “My Tho Noodle Soup”, it brings a homely heart warming feeling when drinking the broth and the pork is just sensationally tender. If you haven’t been already, don’t walk.. run!

So my friend suggested us to go to Keu to have “hu tieu” cos she was craving it. I ordered wonton noodles, summer rolls and beef jerky salad. The food was mediocre. The salad had no beef jerky, only 1 normal slice of beef. The summer rolls’s dipping sauce wasnt exactly authentic. And my wonton noodles was just “meh”. My friend didnt like her “hu tieu” much, she left half a bowl. I would like to come back and try their Banh mi though to see if it could change my view of the restaurant.

I am half Vietnamese and feel compelled to warn other Vietnamese people that the food at Kue is hugely disappointing. For everyone else, please do not think that the dishes at Kue are an accurate representation of Vietnamese food! Today was my third time desperately trying to like Kue. It’s in a great location and it’s a cute pastel coloured cafe. Win, win. But the food is BAD. REALLY BAD. I have no objection to the concept of fusion food, or adding a European twist to different world cuisines - these combinations can be great and a lot of places in London do fusion dishes so well, just not Kue. Today I had the worst Bahn mi of my life (if it can be called that - it feels like sacrilege). I can deal with the dense, thin baguette toasted to within an inch of its life (the opposite of typical light, fluffy, banh mi bread), but the fillings were just foul. I had the Kue Classic Banh mi with pork. The pork was so over cooked and marinated it just tasted like cheap oil and salt. I couldn’t actually taste meat. I also couldn’t taste the pate, cucumber, or carrot because of the over-fried meat. These key ingredients should be able to be appreciated! The only saving grace was the coriander. I could at least taste that! I would rather have had a plain baguette with coriander to be honest... Then there are the Kue “summer rolls” (cold/fresh spring rolls). These are NOT MADE FRESH. The last time I was here for a late night snack at 9pm. I asked if I could have extra fresh herbs and was told “no, sorry we made them this morning (presumably before they opened at 11am), so we can’t make any changes”. This is not the type of food which should be made 12 hours ahead of time, or even 3 hours ahead. Major red flag, but I wanted to try anyway and I was punished. Dry, mostly rice noodle, TINY quantities of fresh ingredients. Each mouthful was like trying to eat a piece of kitchen paper towel. And finally, the one other occasion I tried Kue, I had a curry. If you like meat so fatty you can’t bite through it and have to swallow whole mouthfuls of gristle at a time, you’ll love it! I don’t think I’ll be going back.

I came by Keu for the first time and got takeaway. I would tend to agree with another reviewer that much of the menu were cantonese-style dishes especially the rice section - aside from the banh mi (filled baguettes) and goi cuon (summer rolls). Having said that, I found both my ordered items delicious, and ultimately it’s the taste that counts...and a half-sized toasted sourdough baguette packed with fresh ingredients for less than £7 is a steal in London!

I wanted to try the Bao place round the corner but even at 6pm on a weekday there was a massive queue out the door, so I tried Keu instead and glad I did! There were loads of free tables and I was served straight away. The tasty aromas from the kitchen hit me straight away. I am pregnant so food is high on my priority list right now and I don't like to wait either! Luckily my wonton noodles with pork dumplings, prawn and 5-spice pork came within a few minutes of ordering and it was the best pho I've tried in London. Every bite packed a punch, and the sweet/spicy sauce on the side was a tasty addition. The staff were friendly and even charged my phone for me. I disagree with "discretionary" tips being added to the bill. I have come across this in other Vietnamese restaurants but I don't think it goes down with well most people in UK. I would have tipped anyway because the staff were so nice but would prefer to add it myself. The atmosphere was relaxed, kind of a mix between no-fuss SE asian cafe and American diner, complete with plastic (but tasteful) seating and neon lights in the windows. I'm surprised it wasn't busier but maybe I was there too early. I will definitely make a special trip back to try the rest of the menu. Why stand outside in the rain waiting for a space in the cramped place next door, when you can come here and get served straight away? It was slightly pricier than you might expect but worth it for me. The noodle soups were priced £9:50-£11:50 to eat in, less to take away. I will be recommending this place to my friends!!

DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR MONEY! One of the worst experiences in a restaurant I've ever had. You have to give a circle rating - I wish I could give it a minus rating!A friend and I went in on a Friday night. Plenty of staff just standing around yet the service was appalling. The waiter taking our order didn't even look at us - just grunted that they didn't have what we wanted. We ordered others things..... but the waiter didn't put in the full order. I had to remind him and which point he clearly went to the service station and finally put in the rest of the order - without apologising. We'd also asked for water and tried to order more drinks.... but no drinks showed up and when we tried again to order the staff went out of their way to ignore us.... just as well as the glasses we were given were filthy!! The food itself was passable - we had the summer rolls and Banh Mi.... when it eventually turned up. Was just ok at best. I went to the single restroom and halfway through using it, someone picked the lock and opened the door!?!?!?We had to ask for the bill 3 times before getting it. Again treated as though we were inconveniencing them. When I asked the waiter to remove the service charge as we didn't receive any service he again refused to look at us or acknowledge any fault. He just shrugged and muttered under his breath. Soho is full of great places and a growing number of excellent Vietnamese places so do not waste your money on a place that couldn't care less about its customers.

So my friends visited me in London today and I decided to take them to Keu, as one of my favourite places for lunch. Especially the one in Shoreditch. I must say that I was very disappointed with your service today. We came around 2/2:30 pm. We were seated down and given the menu, our order was taken. We asked for 2 beef stew bowls and one char siu with rice, I also ordered a sparkling water as my friends did not want any drink. When one of your of your staff (European girl) brought the water to our table, she asked my friends whether they wanted tap water. They said no and she pointed out that it was free ( like if my friends did not have money). After she left, she spoke to her colleague (Asian guy) and said to him "most people always ask if they can have tap water but they do not want anything". She probably thought we did not hear that but the way she said it was very sarcastic and offended my friends. Next, our food came, which I am not gonna comment as my review is about the service we were given. After finishing our food we sat there with empty bowls waiting for someone to notice us. After some time, they came and collected the bowls without asking whether we would like something else or the bill. I was still finishing my water and when it was finished, were ready to pay. However, none of your 7-8 staff noticed us. They were too busy chatting and folding the napkins. Two girls even sat down to eat. Two others were folding napkins, looking at us but ignoring, despite we gave then the look and waved our wallets. None of them approached us. Then two of your male staff sat down to eat as well, again without noticing us. So 4 staff were eating, 1 folding napkins, and others behind the counter. We waited for about 15 minutes when my friend got really annoyed and stoop up herself to tell the waitress we would like to pay. It was not even busy in there and so many staff could not do their job properly. I am sorry to say that but this experience really puts me off. I will not be coming back to this branch. Totally ruined lunch with friends.

As a lunchtime treat (slightly on the expensive side for Vietnamese), this is a great place for casual Vietnamese. The wonton noodle soup with hand made egg noodles is so delicious in 24 pork broth.

Buonissima prima esperienza!

I tried Keu today as I noticed it last week on my way back from work. The beef banh mi was ok but a bit neutral tasting and a bit too salty. The ingredients were not spread out evenly in the sandwich so you suddenly bit into quite concentrated child after 10 minutes of neutral taste. Difficult to identify the ingredients as well which make me question how fresh they were. The beef was good. The staff however was less than welcoming - no greetings, no smiles, nothing. On the way out, the waiting staff standing near the door did not thank me or say goodbye either.I think for a £6.50 bill for a sandwich I could at least get a thank you.I love vietnamese food but I think I'll stick to Pho. They know how to make people feel welcome.

The manager completely clueless as are the waiting staff about the menu and what are they cooking in this joint. Ordered papaya summer rolls. Was served cabbage rolls instead. No papaya in whatsoever, apparently that's how they do them, without the main ingredient in the name, but insisted on charging for the "papaya rolls" and even argued with us that we took a bite, before discovering their scam. Chicken curry had funny smell and taste. Didn't finish This joint Should be close down.

Decided to try this place after passing by a few times when I was walking in Soho. The menu is obviously Viet with a few Chinese inspired dishes like Wonton Noodle. The bahn mi i ordered was good, baguette and filling was tasty.I wouldn't consider this the best Viet restaurant in London but it could certainly fulfill your craving for Viet food if you around the Soho area

Don't think they have traditional pho but we had some of their rice bowls which hit the spot when we were famished and walking by. Everything around that area is pretty pricey, this was the closest Asian food at the time. Much cleaner and nicer than anything in Chinatown.

They delivered wrong food, and it was not tasty at all. Sure it is Vietnamese street food, but over charing for such a low quality food. Staff does not understand English so well, totally ignorant. Thanks for charing discretionary tips even I did not ask for it.

When I went in today, I saw the pricing of a banh mi and wanted to walk right out. £7.50 for a sandwich is way overpriced, but since I was missing home and Vietnamese cooking, I bit the bullet and stayed since I figured it would be fine. As soon as the banh mi thit came out to my table, my face dropped. It was the TINIEST banh mi I have ever had in my life (and as a Viet, I've had A LOT)! It was the length of both my hands (Palm to fingers; they're abnormally small) and the width was about 1/3 of my hand. The flavor was average and nothing special. It didn't have the yummy banh mi smell you normally smell in a good banh mi. No coriander leaves, not 1. That was the biggest disappointment (food-wise) on my 2 months trip so far. The only good thing was the softness of the bread. Although severely disappointed, I thought "okay fine. You've learned your lesson. Don't come back". The bill came out and my face dropped again. A service fee? For what? Bringing out a plate of disappointment and clearing my plate? I barely spoke to my server, let alone got serviced.I was so disappointed, I couldn't wait to write my first review of a restaurant. So, if you're Vietnamese (or want reasonable priced Vietnamese food), I would say skip this place.Wish I could get my cash back. Wouldn't go back even if you paid me.

They don't offer traditional tho but have another one with beef + ramen or another one with pork and scrimp. It tasted good but I don't like the wooden spoon and hop stick, because when I'm eating the soup it tasted like wood... I cannot imagine that the wooden spoon is been reuse thousand of times! Argh...a bit over price as well for that quality.

Put off by the long queue for seating at Bao, we decided to head to Keu. Couldn't have made a better choice. The premises was clean and bright and the service, friendly. The menu wasn't extensive, meaning they were good at what they did. We enjoyed the steamed buns, noodles and the Banh Mi (the toasted baguette) - all very authentic! Will definitely go back.

I had the only vegetarian main option on the menu and I thought it was pretty poor tbh. It cost £9 and it was sloppy and didn't have much flavour at all. I had to do something to it with chilli sauce etc to give it something. Wasn't looking for spicy just had to do something to bring it to life. A dull dish with a price that commands expectations. Failed to deliver.

I recently spent a month in Vietnam, where I became a big fan of the cuisine, particularly the banh mi. On my return to London I've eaten around to find authentic substitutes, with varying degrees of success. The Keu "Classic" Banh Mi was a real disappointment. It was stodgy, lacking in flavour and basically tasted like a boring pate baguette. When I asked the server if they had rice flour baguettes, she looked confused, like I was making a weird request, and said "just white and brown bread". One of the first rules of an authentic, light banh mi is you need to use rice flour bread. Wheat flour is just too stodgy. At £6.80, this was pretty disappointing. Nice venue, good location, but from this experience I won't be returning.

We were here for a quick pre-theatre bite to eat and were not very impressed. I had the chicken Banh Mi. The curry sauce around the chicken was quite bland and the only chilii was in the form of big raw slices (complete with seeds) in the surrounding salad. Why not give the curry some nice spice instead? Overall, OK for a quick bite, however we will not be heading back.

Nice bright airy place with big windows in soho. It was surprisingly quiet, not sure why as the food is very good. My steamed dumpling was huge with good texture and lots of filling, and my Banh Mi was made fresh on the traditional rice flour baguette with loads of fresh tasty ingredients by friendly polite staff. If it wasn't for the grey drizzly skies of London it could have taken me back to my holiday in Vietnam.

£7.50 May seem a bit steep for a baguette. But this is the most sublime baguette ever. The Banh Mi is a fusion baguette developed during Vietnam's days of colonial French rule. I had the pulled pork, which from the warm crispy high quality bread, to the balance of pork and eastern herbs and vegetables, was gorgeous.

Good for a quick bite in Soho. My favourites include the braised mackerel and beef brisket. Both served with rice. Also a range of banh mi sandwiches -- baguettes with various savoury fillings eg pork mince. Nice summery salad too. About 15 pounds per head with a cup of jasmine tea.

I recommend this restaurant to have lunch, be patient in case there is no space and you have to wait, it won´t be long, but that´s just normal in London. The food is good, but be aware that there might be something spicy in the food. For me it was something that looked just like a non spicy pepper and it turned out to be a chilli. It was the worst 15minutes of my mouths life, in any case the food was ok.

Just had the Bun Hue and it was fairly average for London - if maybe a little below average. The broth lacked any real depth of flavour and the prawns may as well have not been there. The noodles were nice and soft, not stuck together and it had a good level of heat from the chillies. The staff were friendly and it was reasonable value for money.

Pho - The Citylocation-icon15 Cheapside, First Floor, One New ChangeVietnamese

Went with a couple of friend for din dins. When we first arrived they said we had to wait an hour to be seated, I asked for a booking and after a lil tug of war he agreed to seat us in an hours time. Now, unfortunately I wasn't able to try the pho because I told them I had a coriander intolerance and they absolutely refused to sell me anything with coriander in it. (So be warned, if you wanna take that risk don't say anything 😅...I play with my life so its good). I ended up have the wok friend chicken and prawns noodles, which were okay....a bit basic and a bit dry and definitely not authentic. The spring rolls and calamari were delicious 10/10. I give them that! I tried my friends hot and spicy soup which again was okay but I didn't feel like the food transported me anywhere.

Cay Tre Soholocation-icon42-43 Dean StreetVietnamese

Best pho I’ve had in London and the spring roll appetizer was exceptional as well. Recommend the cay tre special, which is a satay based pho and nice and spicy. Service could have been a little better and we were rushed off our table after 1h15m for the next booking, which wasn’t ideal given we had made a reservation and weren’t told this when reserving the table.
