Karen's Plaice in Gosport

Coming for years but tonight the chips were hard and double cooked at 5ish which at least the sea gulls enjoyed Hope to have fresh ones next time!!

We frequently drive down from Basingstoke for a Fish and Chip Supper and a walk along the sea front after. Food has always been very good, pipping hot and good portions. Invariably our party includes a couple of elderly parents who enjoy the trip. Our go to choice is the seniors fish and chips as none of us like too many chips. The fish portion for the seniors is actually larger than our local F&C's large cod at considerably more!

Great portions, very hot, delicious fish. We were very impressed by the portion sizes and will definitely use Karen's plaice again. Thank you so much.

We now, and for the last five years ,have gone to Karen’s Plaice for our fish and chips. A worth waiting for freshly cooked to order delicious pack of food that would be hard to find anywhere else between Gosport and Fareham. Well done to you at Karens. Xie Xie ni.

Cash only ; food is fantastic, great Menu staff are great returning customer every time we go to Lee on the Solent.

Can not recommend highly enough. Great value for money. Delicious food and lovely staff. We drive all the way from Southampton, as none of our local chip shops can match them for taste and value. Every order is cooked as you wait. Excellent!

The best pea fritter I have ever had! I went back a few times in the week I was staying in Lee-on-the-Solent! The chips were great too! I will definitely be visiting again next time I'm in Lee-on-the-Solent. Tomorrow! The staff were lovely too.

Cooked fresh to order, you rarely wait more than five minutes, been coming here for years with my Mum when we go down the beach (We live in Basingstoke). Just good, classic Fish and Chips!

Got a large cod and small chips plus some extras. Fantastic value for money and the best fish I've had for years. A proper fish and chip shop. Definitely worth the visit.

Best fish and chips we've had in a long time! The cod was so big and the battery was light, crispy and not greasy. The portion size was very generous and great value for money.

Long wait times for food even though shop didn't have many customers in there around 8.40pm, however that being said the food quality & quantity was very good & certainly value for money. Would recommend to friends & family if visiting lee on the Solent beach

A very busy Saturday evening. Had to wait a while for our food but everything was very organised as always. My God was spot on and my Daughters battered sausage was "the best she has ever had" . The chips were cooked and very tasty but needed a few more minutes to crisp them up. I guess a possibility in a busy premises. Would still come back.

Karen's has been my fav now for about 5 years. Cash only and you wait for it to be cooked freshly. Great chips and OAP meal is fab at £4.50 I saw last review was 1019 and was bad I can guarantee you will love the food

I go here every couple of months - large cod is huge ! batter always light, I don't particularly like the chips (I prefer them softer) but I just fill up with other stuff!

My first visit on a recommendation from a friend. Had the OAP fish and chips. Nice piece of fish and just the right amount of chips at a great price. All freshly cooked will definitely be going back when I'm over that way. Free parking nearby too.

I think the food is lovely, but the waiting times are horrendous. They need more fryers and staff. Even though I can't fault the food, I won't be able to wait around 45 mins for a couple of pieces of fish again.

After a short wait (5-10 mins) we had cod, battered sausage and shared a large chips which was enough for 2 x adults. The batter was fresh crispy and delicious. Hardly any grease left afterwards. I guess the food was cooked to order hence the wait but well worth it. I would definitely recommend and be back again!

Visited Karen's based on TA recommendations. Had a large chips, cod and a battered sausage, which were really tasty - flaky fish and light batter, nice chips. Only gave 4* as a) they only take cash, although it is only a short walk to an ATM (while we were waiting we saw at least 3 customers look in and then leave, so they're losing business which seems crazy in these current times) and b) service was slow given we ordered standard stuff that should have been churned out!

Went to karens place tonight never had a problem with there food before but sorry to say tonight's food was terrible the chips looked liked frozen chips that had been used and they was full of grease and the sausage was so crunchy that my little girl had trouble eating it Sorry to say I won't be going back Really gone down hill 😢

A fantastic little Chippy. Great quality, cooked to perfection. Your choice will be cooked, when you order, so absolutely fresh, and not been stuck in the fryer cabinet, for who knows how long. If you are in Lee, give then a try. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Look forward to visiting here, when I'm on 'The Solent' again in September.

Absolutely delicious fish and chips. The portions were very generous and the pea fritters (which were a novelty as we are from up North) were divine. We would highly recommend Karen's Plaice and the staff are lovely.

Fish as always was excellent but there seems to be a different chip which is not as good.

To be honest we only went here as we were eating late and our regular chippy had closed, pleasantly surprised, great food freshly cooked, and far cheaper than our usual, we will be back.

Jenny is extremely friendly and very helpful. She remembers how we like our chips, etc and asks how we are The food is brilliantly cooked and its such a treat to have. Simply the best 👌

The cod and chips were very well cooked, batter light and crispy and not stodgy. Chips, good flavoursome potato taste. All good ingredients including the oil cooked in. Best in Lee and best value.

Cold chips plus nearly all small bits rather than reasonable size. Jumbo sausage seemed not to be freshly cooked, rather than sitting in the heated cabinet. Spam fritter was ok. Overall really disappointing.

This 'plaice' is amazing. We travel a fair way to have our fish and chips here but could never go anywhere else having tried these. Always perfectly fresh and beautifully cooked. Never yesterday's left overs here. Would rate it 10 if stars allowed.

Does not accept cash. Does not state it in the window that they don't accept cash, so you line up when they are closed and then have to leave the line when you get in and find the don't take cash. Please put a sign in the window. They do GOOD cheasy chips that are good enough to eat even when you are sober.

Popped in here for fish n chips to eat by the sea, a 5 min walk from the seafront, so still piping hot food. Fabulous fish crispy golden batter, chips were crispy and the pea fritter was amazing. 2 x pensioner portion cod chips &pea fritter £10:80p. Terrific value and outstanding quality & quantity.

We used Karen's Plaice whilst on a September holiday, during which the weather was exceptionally warm. Thus on a normally-quiet Monday, the queue for service was 20 minutes long. However, it was worth the wait to enjoy their delicious fish-and-chips whilst watching the sun setting over Southampton Water.A word to the wise though - at the time of our visit, this takeaway was still 'cash only' so no chance of contactless payments.

This place does not accept card. Clearly Karen needs to pull her finger out and sort it out. Try the chip shop around the corner which takes card. Who carries cash these days?? Very annoying when you are told to go to the cash point when ordering!!

Really nice large cod large plaice large chips and mushy peas for 3 of us and we couldn't eat it all. first time I've tried plaice and it was beautiful so was the cod nice proper crispy batter chips was amazing we all real enjoyed it and would highly recommend it

Will forever use Karen’s Plaice whenever eating at Lee on Solent. Best value for money, least greasiest batter, good quality sausages, fish & chips and happy with the prices we pay. Used them for years and can’t see myself changing.Just make sure you bring your own ketchup as don’t want to be paying chip shop prices.Would be handy if they took card but not the end of the world :)

Went to Lee on Solent to visit family who had recently moved in and had Karen's Plaice recommended for fish and chips.Well, straight away I'm gonna muck this review up because I don't eat fish.....so had sausage and chips instead with curry sauce. Some of the family did have fish though and enjoyed it.My meal was really nice, chips were lovely. The only downside was that the curry sauce was a bit watery.......not the best.

THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS EVER I haven't had fish and chips like this in a long time, absolutely amazing. The fish is cooked to perfection, light batter, the chips are amazing too. Fish and chips came in a box which for me is a lot better to eat. I highly recommend Karen's Plaice. Being from Yorkshire, Karens Plaice is really up there when it comes to fish and chips. I had my fish and chips looking at the sea front, amazing view with a amazing meal. Thank you 👍

If your clinically vulnerable then don't go here, I get that all restrictions have been lifted but the place was packed the order was late and overall there are other much better chip shops in Lee. Portions were small only nice bit was the chips and batter on the very cheap sausages

Place was packed, no real order to ordering or queueing and only took cash, last Friday about 20 families waiting and nobody came out in the 5-10 mins we were waiting so we left and went to Stubbington chippy
