Joy Bangla in Wakefield

We had organised a long overview get together at another local Indian who didn't have the courtesy to let us know they were closed leaving 11 of us standing on the pavement wondering what to do next. We called Joy Bangla who immediately agreed to take us and within the 15 minutes or so we all arrived, greeted with a warm welcome to find our table had already been set , literally nothing was too much trouble. The curries, naan & rice were amazing.... far better than our original choice of the red chilli . The chicken in the curry melted in the sauce yum!

Family meal with 5/6 of us with the most horrific food poisoning for 3 days now. Thankfully my 15 month old didn’t want to snack on anything! Considering we thought we’d been way overcharged when we walked out, they were extremely understaffed and food & drinks were mediocre, it’s definitely not worth feeling like death warmed up for days. My parents are regulars but we all will not be returning again, choose somewhere else!

I hadn't frequented this establishment as regularly over the last 3 years or so as I used to, but I will say this, the curries were very tasty and of the quality I first tried here 10 years ago which made me a regular visitor. No starters but the main curries were the chicken usami and chicken mirpuri, chicken portions in the curries where of decent standard and what made the Bangla and good curry house in the past was the taste! It was bang on! Pilau rice , chips , garlic nan and onion bhajis with main course all decent portions and cooked well. The pint of cobra was also well kept for a restaurant not like some places where it's a flat warm disaster. This was full of life cold and decent head. Also prices are reasonable. Service was polite. Good tasty meal I look forward to returning to try the banquet option available on the menu. Keep the taste up.

Me and my friends visited tonight as a booking of 6. The food was lovely but the drinks were terrible. From the start we all ordered a pint of coke. They were all flat. One person having to change drinks as they couldn't drink theirs. As we got to the main another friend found a tangle of hair in her glass that she had drank from and didn't continue to drink it there after. When we told the staff he just looked and it and said nothing in reply. No apology or excuse (not that there is an excuse for a hair to be tangled in her glass) other than that the food was good and the staff were good. Just spolied it at the end when I told them about the drink

I have visited Joy Bangla many times over the past 7/8 months and I have never been disappointed. I stumbled upon the restaurant by chance with my family and we all said from the start that it was the best Indian food we have eaten in the UK (and we are regular eaters of Indian food). The broad menu means you can always try something different (if you can resist getting the same thing again because I can assure you it will be incredible). The service is outstanding. All the staff are so friendly, welcoming and make you feel at home. I genuinely have never felt so content in a restaurant. I don’t just recommend, I highly encourage you to attend Joy Bangla and experience a fantastic evening of food. Thank you guys!

Visited Sunday evening and got the banquet meal. The service here is simply amazing and you get such a warm welcome from the staff. The food comes at a good pace and the service is impeccable. The food itself was amazing and the naan bread was some of the best that I’ve had. Will definitely be back again. Also - the restaurant is cash only.

An amazing find Well what can we say? This is a must visit. We had met friends for for the weekend and as such, we wanted to go out for a curry. We’d never been to Joy Bangla before but after searching on Trip Advisor we decided to give it a go. All the food was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for the amazing staff! A huge shout out must go to Shuhel, the manager who really looked after us and gave our daughter a gift of a box of chocolates as It was her birthday. Such a lovely gesture that was greatly appreciated. We will definitely been retiring.

4 of us went away golfing to Lincolnshire but playing in Leeds on the Monday so we stayed in the premier inn castleford. I found this place on Trip advisor and it’s even better than the quality reviews. Unreal food. Unreal staff and the Sunday offer is the best value for money you will find. Glad I don’t live nearer as I would be in every night 😄 Will 100% be coming back

Checked out the reviews which seemed good so visited on a Sunday evening at 730. Not too encouraged by only 4 other customers. Placed our order. Lager arrived flat and tepid. Pickle tray yuk, runny watered down or dry and old. Starters also tepid. Mains , Dhansak no lentils or pineapple colour red heat Madras, FAIL Other dish average. Overall 4/10 would not return, which judging by the number of customers many other have decided the same. Perhaps it relies on the after pub drunks trade.

We got a takeaway for a family occasion. Food arrived hot and delicious We have eaten in the restaurant several times. The food is always amazing Staff are friendly and always have time to chat to their guest Highly recommend

Decided to try restaurant after reading good reviews. Good decision. Called on a very quiet Sunday night with my wife and a friend. This was our first visit and staff could not have been more welcoming. They were friendly and genuine and not over the top. Food was great, tasty and not expensive. We stayed overnight in Castleford on our boat on our way elsewhere. Due to rain and cloud our solar panels had left us on low on power on the boat so I asked staff if we could charge our phones from their electricity. The manager (apologies for not remembering his name) agreed without hesitation. A few days later we stayed overnight again on our return journey. There was no doubt where to eat. Despite being a lot busier the manager recognised us straight away and welcomed us back. He remembered what we had to drink the first occasion and asked if we wanted to charge our phones. Cant beat that for service. Will call here every time we pass through.

Having lived here for 5 years we drive past daily and have never visited due to it looking empty. Tonight our usual takeaway let us down so thought we might as well go in and give it a go. Well we are so happy we did! The service was great and the food fantastic, so hot and fresh and fantastic flavours. My husband left it up to the waiter to choose his starter and main and neither disappointed. We will be back again and just so annoyed with ourselves that we haven’t been before!

Have eaten in this restaurant many times and with covid ar the moment we have had a few takeaways, I can honestly say the provide the most delicious currys I have ever tasted, fresh tasty and affordable, in fact I rang the restaurant to tell them how lovey it was,,,

We went to dine at around 10 o'clock on the Saturday evening and was greeted as if it was 7. The staff couldn't do enough for us. Being used to the usual fair on offer at our local restaurants in Hull we asked if they would recommend something different and boy they did, from the starters to the mains, the side dishes and bread were chosen for us and everything was so delicious. The bill was just over £51 including pickle tray with poppadoms and 3 rounds of drinks which was such good value for money. If you come to Castleford to dine then give this little gem a visit it wont disappoint.

We placed our order and collected today. We were greeted as old friends, the perfect example of how to do customer service. The food was, as usual excellent. Looking forward to being able to go and eat-in. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Called in after checking reviews. Wasn’t until after we had ordered that we noticed a sign on the wall saying cash only. Just as well we had cash on us or we would have been doing the dishes I think.They really should point this out to you before you order. I’ve never eaten anywhere that doesn’t accept some form of card payment. I think you guys need to get up to date.Anyway it’s a nice clean place. Staff were attentive. Food was ok. Not the best I’ve had but not the worse either.Toilets are upstairs which are a bit manky. Would I go back. Only if I have some cash on me lol.

I visited the restaurant whilst in Castleford on a course. The restaurant itself appears clean and the staff were friendly / attentive. The place does lack a bit of atmosphere if i'm honest.The food came quickly and was well presented. I would have given a higher rating but the quality of the chicken was a little below what i'm used to back home in Newcastle. For me, the chicken dishes in Indian cuisine require the chicken to be 100% high quality. I expect the chicken to be very tender however in my dish (chicken tikka madras) some of the pieces were on the tougher side.All in all not a bad experience but wouldn't be rushing back. Not expensive certainly reasonably priced.

Starving so ordered poppadums and two mains, first the fish fillet with tandoori spices, then the Usmani super hot king prawn curry. My wife had a cauliflower bhaji to start. I was warned that the fish fillet would take 20 minutes, but that was ok for us, as we had the poppadums. Then 5 minutes later - it arrived, but was pieces of fish in a curry sauce.. I guess they were expecting a crowd in. Tasted great though. Almost as soon as we'd finished our starters our mains were there. Rich and spicy, mine was perfect along with a rare nan bread as a treat. My wife's meal had a wonderful flavour though wasnt as hot. A good tarka dhal to go with it, we had to take some food home ! Excellent food, very quick service...

We love Joy Bangla and have been eating here for many years. We very rarely eat out, only birthdays and special occasions really, but Joy Bangla is our restaurant of choice, every time! What brings us back time and time again is the fantastic service and beautiful food! The Bangla boys are wonderful and make you feel like family! The food is always hot, fresh and tasty! Also, the curries are never greasy or oily! A bonus for us dieters! Haha!

Lovely food and not covered in grease just wish portions were a bit bigger. Food is delicious 😍we have eaten In the restaurant and has take away and equally tasty standards don’t drop when it’s take away.

We have been regulars at the Joy Bangla for the last few years, even spending 2 Christmas days there. The food is always top notch. The Wednesday and Sunday 5 courses for £11 is amazing value and unlike other restaurants is the same quality and portion sizes you get from the a la carte menu.

We visited Joy Bangla on New Years Eve and we were delighted with the food, and also with the value for money , the only criticism was that the restaurant seemed to be understaffed? But this certainly didn’t stop us enjoying our first visit to Joy Bangla and certainly won’t stop us visiting the establishment again , in a nutshell great food , great prices , lovely friendly staff , clean establishment, we will recommend to anyone.

Always great service and the food is spot on too. The host is so friendly and takes the time to explain things from the menu for you and able to recommend something for everyone.

Visited Joy Bangla last night with family and friends. There were already alot of us attending and tried adding 3 more people at late notice. This wasn’t a problem even tho they were fully booked. Although they were extremely busy, nothing was too much trouble. Food was perfect and very tasty. Highly recommend visiting this restaurant.

I eat a lot of curries and go out often however this has to be my favourite curry house.

From coming through the door you feel so welcomed. We have been going to other local Indian restaurants for years and this little gem is by far the best ... the staff make you feel welcome and go an extra mile for you like they can’t do enough. The food is lovely and nice and clean no pools of oil! We bring our 4 year old boy and they fuss over him and make him also feel like he belongs. Cant recommend enough!!

After going to the same local indian for 18months decided to try Joy Bangler. This place is very deceiving as it looks small and pokey. Definatly not the case. The decor is lovely and clean, tables were very pleasantly set out with good quality heavy cutlery. The meal was excellent, very tasty and well presented. Drinks are a little on the dear side, we are used to taking our own cheap plonk though. The gentleman serving us was very welcoming and he gave us time to look at the menu without hassle and he gave us the option to have a break between courses. Alot of places are to quick to want you in and out. We had a lovely evening and we will be back. Thankyou Joy Bangler!

Would definitely urge anyone in the Castleford area to visit this place if you’re a Indian/Bangladeshi fan. We’ve lived close for a while but for some reason never visited before. The service was great all the staff are extremely friendly and the food was delicious. What I liked that was different to your typical restaurant is the smaller, more cosy atmosphere. We had the Balti and Masala dishes which were both fantastic. The restaurant it’s self is very clean and well maintained too. Definitely be visiting again and would recommend to anyone. Thank you for a great night.

One of the most rotten Currys iv ever had order came wronge veg curry contained no veg lamb tikka had not much or flaver also I can only guess it was a left over has right slap bang in middle when dished out was a wedge of lemon ? Pompadoms flat cold never again

Superb restaurant. I’ve been coming here since it opened, and the food is stunning. If they don’t have what you want, just ask, they will prepare it for you. You won’t get the usual saucy tikka masala. Instead you will get an infusion of great spices, blended together to form a rich yet wonderfully tasting sauce. I cannot praise the staff and owner enough. They are so welcoming and never forget a face. I recently celebrated my surprise 50th birthday here and had a brilliant night. Please try it.

We have been here on a number of occasions and have always had a great night at a good price . The food and beer are great and the staff are attentive and very friendly. A great place to eat.

Visited with the family and had a great meal. I’am not usually an Indian food man but the food here was excellent and the staff very friendly.

Really pleased with the service and the food was stunning from starter to main. The Madras has a nice little kick and the naan was gorgeous. Kingfisher on draft what more could you ask for and the prices are spot on too 👍👍

Visited for evening meal 2 people 2 curries from chef specials chips rice and garlic nan. Once again curries where of high standard , good portions and very tasty. We always try something from the chef specials as they are curries you do not normally see on other menus and they have always been bang on. Good friendly staff value for money. We a regular customers and it never disappoints.

We normally get out 5 courses for £10.95 at red chilli just round the corner. However, they were fully booked so thought we’d try here.

I have eaten here 4 times now and each time the service has been wonderful. Staff are friendly without being to intrusive, helpful with discussing menu options and welcoming. We ate from the £10.95 set menu but were able to modify our curry choices. All food served was fantastic, tasty and freshly cooked. We will definitely return and would recommend this place for any Indian food fans.

On a trip up to Scotland, breaking our journey half way up. Castleford seemed the ideal place although we'd never been anywhere near it before. Scanned TA for ideas for an Indian restaurant and Joy Bangla came out on top. Rang in advance to make sure they could cater for a gluten-free diet, they can, and booked a table (not knowing how busy they might be being #1 in the list!). When we arrived (Saturday evening, 8pm) I wondered whether the #1 listing was genuine as it wasn't as busy as we thought it might be......anyway, we settled down, discussed the menu options for GF, and ordered. The food was fantastic! Why did we doubt the ranking! By the time we left the place was virtually full and with what seemed like many regulars - always a good sign. Plenty of take-away trade too. If ever we are back in the area I know where we will be heading for an evening meal.

Good selection of curries and sides - all very reasonably priced. Wine also - £13.95 for a bottle. Quality of food was very good indeed, as was the service. Parking close by was an advantage. Restaurant is cash only.

My husband and I were recommended this to restaurant by the owner of a local hotel. We weren't disappointed! An excellent variety of dishes on the menu with attentive efficient staff. The food was served quickly and tasted fabulous. Would defend return if in this area again! Thank you!

Good food, good service, only downside is you can only pay cash, didn’t realise until we’d finished our meal, so then had to walk 10 mins to nearest cash machine on a snowy night, and the wine was watered down

My regular 'go to' Indian for eat-in or take-away. Never disappointed. We were a party of four and all very happy. Quite like the Bangla beer as well.

Large group of us were accommodated at short notice, staff were lovely and the food was fantastic. Highly recommend.

Take my wife for a valentines day meal. Been a few times before and never had any complaints excellent food and excellent service nice and friendly will be returning again and again.

Once again we returned to Joy Bangla for an early NYE dinner, and as usual the food and service were both exceptional. We started with popadoms and the pickle tray, then mixed starters, and a different main each with rice and their superb garlic naans. This excellent little eatery never misses for great quality, tasty, value for money food and the warmest of warm welcomes. I had the Banglar Taste special, while my wife raved about the Biriani. We look forward to our next visit. Very simply, a joy.

I have visited this Indian Restaurant quite a few times and never been disappointed. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The food is outstanding. Joy Bangla is my favourite Indian Restaurant by far.

Visited restaurant for my birthday last night and been many times before and it never fails to disappoint, in fact it seams to be getting better . Friendly staff and good service . What makes this Indian better than most is some of the bespoke curries on the menu , tried most of them and all been first class. I have eaten in many Indians around the country and this is right up there for taste. Kingfisher beer is great too.

Me and my wife went out for tea on Sunday the 5th of November. We went for a Indian at joy bangla. It was wonderful the staff are very warm and welcoming and it as a very good atmosphere. The food was excellent really good I could eat there everyday lol. But the price is good the food is excellent what more could you ask for. A definite 10/10

Went to Joy Bangla last night and it's been a while since we last visited. WHY, WHY, WHY it's been so long I have no idea because the food was absolutely superb. Super food, super service and great prices. Such lovely staff, I can't wait to go back.

Went out for a meal with my family no special occasion just fancied eating out. The staff are really friendly always smiling more than happy to help. The food was excellent I asked for something that wasn't even on the menu and there was no problem. They made it for me no questions asked and was really good value as well would definitely go back

Went for first time on a Tuesday evening, read good reviews. Not disappointed. Ordered Onion Bhaji to start, followed by Lamb Joy Bangla and my partner had Chicken Shampan, we shared rice and bread. Food and service were perfect. It’s now my favourite curry destination, best I’ve had for a long time and very good value. Staff very friendly and pleased to help and make you feel welcome, it’s a great restaurant and gets top marks from me.

We visited for the first time with my parents (who are regulars) on a Saturday night. Good atmosphere and was relatively busy. My partner and I shared a mixed starter (Bangla cocktail I believe it was. Asked on the menu), served on a skillet and every element was great. The main course was similarly delicious, we got specials and all were tasty and the right amount of spice. But the real jewel in the crown was the friendliness, professionalism and humour of the staff there. Can't recommend enough.

Good Indian restaurant on the outskirts of central Castleford, with reasonable prices and good food, fairly fast service. What more can you ask for?

We called in late yesterday evening (last customers in!) after a night out at the Cas Tigers Beer Festival. From the outset, the customer service was amazing, they even offered to wash our Cas Tiger tankards before we left and put them in a bag for easy carrying! The food was exceptional, from the poppadoms and wide range of pickles/sauces, beautifully crispy onion bhajis and chicken chatt starters, to the chicken biriani and Joy Bangla main, not to mention the garlic naan. Everything was fresh, hot and well presented. We noticed it was all less 'greasy' than our usual Indian restaurant (local competition). Our first Joy Bangla experience was simply joyful and we are already planning a return, possibly for a 5 course Sunday or Wednesday evening meal. All in all, highly recommended. Well worth a visit

I have given this restuarant a 1 star, as i ended up with food poisoning. I had the king prawn dopiaza, pilau rice and garlic nan. I have been in contact with the restuarant ( the manager)and they aren't interested so i will be contacting enviromental health to take this further.I absolutely love indians and have never had a problem before at Desi, Aagragh, Red Chilli and Shurma.VERY VERY DISSAPPOINTED CUSTOMER

We have just enjoyed another wonderful meal at Joy Bangla. The 3 of us were in need of cheering up after a tough week and our friends at Joy Bangla greeted us with their customary warm welcome. After a few popadoms and the pickle tray we tucked into a mix of starters. These were lovely as usual but our mains were excellent. Superb garlic naans, pilau rice and 3 mains between us. Me and my wife had a special each while our daughter went for her usual balti. Really can't fault this wonderful little restaurant. The quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff keep Joy Bangla justifiably high in the local TripAdvisor rankings, with food that you would be lucky to beat anywhere.

Yet again the Joy Bangla has not failed to impress. The food was excellent as always. The staff are so courteous and helpfull. They make the whole experience so delightful. Try this restaurant....you won't be disappointed.

The highlight of the week for us is our weekly takeaway from this gem of a restaurant. A wide range of starters and main courses never disappoint, and finish off the busy working week nicely. We collect, but a delivery service is available. Staff are friendly and courteous and nothing is too much trouble for them. Sean, the restaurant manager, always goes out of his way to offer a tasty accompaniment to his main course dishes. Thoroughly recommend you give them a try. Top class Indian dining in the comfort of your own home.

This Restaurant is one of the very best Indians for miles. We eat here on a regular basis. All the staff are very polite, friendly, always have a smile and are very hardworking. The service is excellent, even when the place is full. The food is absolutely delicious. The menu is extensive and whatever we try, it is always very fresh, and cooked to perfection. The restaurant is always clean. We are true Indian food lovers, and have eaten at many, many Indian Restaurants, but this one really will take some beating. The staff are always friendly and as we come on a regular basis they remember us and are happy to change orders if u ask. The food is fantastic value and varied in taste and style. They do a great bottle of Bangla too which really hits the spot! I will keep coming back here as in 3 years ive never had a bad meal or bad time.

Although you can get the standard Indian dishes they also do an excellent speciality dishes. It a little more expensive but worth it if you are someone who likes to try something different

We were staying nearby and looked this place up on Trip Advisor.It certainly lived up to expectations.Not your usual "mock Indian for the English palate" but genuine Indian flavours prepared from really good ingredients.A slight disappointment was that there was a marked variation in onion bahji with some tastier than others.Overall an excellent meal
