Food ok but £10 for a 'large' cod which is no bigger than standard fillet in most chippies felt very expensive. Also the gravy was so thin it was basically brown water. Worst gravy I have ever had from any chippy

First class fish and chips, reasonably priced. Freshly made and lightly battered fish. Chips were delicious.John was very friendly, had a laugh and joke with him. Tried to convince him I was an OAP to qualify for the pensioners deal but he was having non of it. We sat in and ate them. A small compact dining area but comfortable. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Good portions of cod and chips, cooked to order. Hosts friendly. We first went there during Covid when it was take out only so now it's great to sit in their cosy cafe at back of shop

Nicely cooked, good portions and price. And we were served by the owners as their tenants were on holiday! 🙂

Food cooked to order, cod fresh and nicely cooked, chips a bit soggy but could be time of year. Expensive at £23 for 2 cans, 2 peas, 2 fish and 1 small chips

A good selection of fish is cooked to order, crispy batter, never greasy, chips are crispy and not soggy and stuck together which seems to be how other establishments serve theirs these days, very good value, the best fish and chip shop in Teignmouth by a long way. Give them a go!

Best chips I’ve had in Devon all week. The guy that served me was very pleasant and genuine in his conversation. My only criticism is that the portions are a bit smaller than I’m used to. If it wasn’t for that it would have been 5 stars all the way. Saying that I probably need to lose a bit of weight so maybe they did me a favour. Excellent chips. I’ll be back to try the fish soon.

Great fish and chips. Not greasy. Perfect portion size. No anaemia limp chips here! The staff were friendly too. What’s not to like. Will be back! Followed up with a Roskilly’s ice cream from the pier. Perfection!

I visit Devon every 3-4 months and always visit jolly's. My family recently went to Padstow and a famous chefs chip shop, they commented that jolly's is better. If you want the best chips, fish or sausage in batter then go here!!!

We were the first customers in the shop and ate in, great sized portions and all tasted amazing, everything had been cooked from fresh, lovely crispy fresh batter on the fish, chips cooked to perfection, staff very attentive and fast service, thank you for a lovely meal.

False economy, Lovely fish and chips, but why oh why do you have to pay for a sachet of tomato sauce when you're eating in, how much would a few bottles of tomato sauce cost when you're paying so much for fish and chips, it's those little extras that get the customers coming back, Great food though!

SCRUMPTIOUS fish and chips. The best in Teignmouth. Melt in the mouth thin batter. Takeaway or eat in the very simply furnished cafe served by cheerful friendly staff.

I've had to edit my previous reveiw as the cod and chips I had ordered were such a disappointment. The chips were chewy and dry but at least the fish was cooked fresh; however, the batter on the fish was a thin veneer and not the typical crispy batter you'd expect. It was nice to see people in the dining area, though.

There food is so amazing I could have it breakfast lunch and dinner. Great survives and realy kind and generous

Just had cod, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce for two of us Absolutely delicious and freshly fried. Big portions, delightful staff and a good price in comparison to other places in Teignmouth. We'll definitely be back!!!!

We fancied a change of chip shop in Teingmouth and this did not disappoint. Great prices, amazing portions and much better than any other I’ve ever tried in the UK😍 Cannot wait to come back down to Devon just to visit this chip shop again! Absolute gem and amazing find! It is a great chippy. The food was great. Nice chunk of fish and good size chips. Well located for collection and walk to the seafront to enjoy the food.

This was a superb chippy but unfortunately it's gone downhill rapidly over the last year or two. The new owners obviously have no experience as fish is put in the box first with chips on top which makes the batter soggy. Salt is put on before vinegar so the vinegar washes the salt off. Two basics that everyone knows about yet they are clueless about. Tonight our fish was soggy from being on the bottom and undercooked. The chips were dark brown and inedible. We had to bin the lot. It's the dearest chippy in town yet gives the smallest portions and is the worse. We will not be going back even though it's only a couple of hundred yards from our house.

We've used this chippy many times over the years as it's close to our home. At one time it was excellent with well cooked great quality food. Unfortunately it's been going rapidly downhill over the last year or so and we've used it less and less. Stupidly we got fish and chips from there tonight. Firstly I've never known the fish being put in the box and chips piled on top. Obviously this makes the batter soggy. Then salt put on before the vinegar, which washes the salt off. Obviously the current owners have no experience. Tonight our fish was undercooked and the tiny portion of chips were dark brown and inedible. They are the most expensive chippy in town and unfortunately now the worst.

We are locals and our usual chip shop is closed at the moment, my daughter recommended trying the jolly good fish shop and we were totally impressed. Beautifully cooked fish and chips at a good price and very friendly. We will definitely be back and may even change permanently!

Great food, piping hot, perfect

With no planned evening meal in our B&B we visited The Jolly Good fish Cafe in Teignmouth late on a Wednesday afternoon. Although very quiet we settled down in the rear cafe area and ordered from our "all in one" friendly frier/server. Fish & Chips and Scampi & Chips with mushy peas. He served us with our freshly cooked fish suppers and then made our cups of Tea. The food and service were excellent.

My friends from manchester said this was the best chip shop they have been to,if i could rate this fish and chip shop 6 stars i absolutely would. Trust me if you come here you will not regret it!

What can you say when it comes to Fish & Chips when in Teignmouth, apart from go to Jolly Good Fish cafe. The best cod and chips great friendly service all cooked to order.

Hmmm where to start? Ordered two cod and chips and one Scampi, 1hr in advance, on a Friday. Order was not ready and they had not even started cooking the scampi. Seemed totally disorganized inside. Doing renovations while serving food, sure the dust adds to the flavour. As for the food. Scampi: tiny portion for the money, total rip-off. Fish #1: hot, but greasy with soggy batter. Fish #2: barely warm, person eating was extremely unhappy with the “cold food”. Chips: distinctly average. Will not go back.

Have been using this fish and chip shop for years, last Friday ordered 1 large and 2 small cod. The large was freshly cooked and lovely but the small portions were disgusting. Clearly batch and re-cooked, it was dry and the batter was so dark...

Bit disappointed in the size of a large cod, very greasy too

Visited due to good reviews but was distinctly average. Fish was very thin.... Chips were a bit baked up, which we wasn't expecting as queue was busy so expected better to be honest. Sadly we will probably try elsewhere next time.

Usually really good but tonight I'm afraid to say it was awful. Hopefully just a one off. Cod batter was soggy and swimming in fat, which was all over my car seat by the time I got home. Chips I think were leftovers from earlier and certainly not fresh. So disappointed from what is usually a good fish and chip shop.

Me and my wife pop to Teignmouth tonight in search of a good fish and chip shop....and I can report that we found one!!!....the fish was fresh and the chips were crisp and not greasy, it was reasonably priced!!!!..... I would highly recommend this cafe.....and the guys running it pleasantly cheerful!!'

Tiny chip portions, we ordered large and got small and they were dry with little flavour. Vegetarian burger was nice. Attitude from the older staff wasn't pleasant. The young lad serving us was lovely and polite. The fryer and a man further in the back of the premises were both clearly tired of their roles and made us feel like our custom wasn't wanted. This place used to be amazing and a lot of the locals are shocked at how this place has gone downhill since the old owners sold up.

Have had good food in past, most recent this weekend shocking, asked for cod, think we got sardine, plus very greasy. Watched them packing through window , asked for one large one normal and got exactly the same. Not enjoyable, like to support local business but this was a bad experience !!

We have been regular customers of Jolly Good for many, many years. The last couple of years have seen some changes with new owners etc, we have stayed loyal despite having mixed experiences. After this evening however we we will no longer order from here....

Had fish & chips from here, was easy to find the place as it was covered in awards like his last place in Weymouth when old man pierce had Alfs chip shop, that had awards all over it saying it was the best chip shop in the UK, everyone in Weymouth used to say he printed his own awards, we used to have a good laugh at coffee mornings, remember one lady said the fish she got from Alfs was pink & she couldn't face it so she gave it to the foxs & they wouldn't go near it, piercie used to say if you are local you can have 10 % off, we used to say 100 % off wouldn't be enough for his fish & chips, another old dear said piercies always got that old black jumper on, which is what he was wearing when I went to the jolly good fish cafe

Actually really good, be proud that you're better than the central fish cafe, they're disgusting but you guys are brilliant and definitely do the best chips of any chippy in Teignmouth 👍

Favourite chippy in town. Since having a baby we’ve been nearly every week when we need an easy quick dinner. Only a 4 star because a few times when buys the chips haven’t been that crispy so we’ve popped them in the oven for 10mins when got home. But that’s only when they’ve been busy.

Very good fish and chips and if you like a curry sauce with your chips is just right.

Such a relief to get chips which are crispy instead of soggy and fish that's cooked perfectly in a thin, light batter, maximising the flavour. All served with a warm, friendly and upbeat attitude. Definitely the best chippy in town!

Very average, probably wouldn't go again unless desperate. Greasy fish, do your own salt and vinegar otherwise they will give you barely any.
