Amazing battered Fish & Chips. Service was 1st class. Staff so friendly and they leave you to eat your food, there's no "is everything alright?". Because they know its alright. My parents eat here and take away most Friday's. Fantastic service! Fantastic food. Thank you.

I visited the Jolly Fryer with my wife for a snack. We both had sausage and chips and we were charged £3.50 each, totalling £7. I don't usually go into fish and chip shops as I think they are always over priced and if you ask for, for instance, fish and chips, they don't ask you if you want small or large chips, they just charge you the large chip price. Anyway I am always checking the prices first to make sure I'm not overcharged. On the board it says 'SMALL CHIPS £1.40' SAUSAGE £1.70, so this should have been £3.10 each, totalling £6.20 but we were charged £7. When I queried this, without having to explain anything really, the lady said 'the chips £1.40 are a half a bag of chips'. I said that is a bit of a con. She immediately, without me asking , went to the till and gave me some money back. So basically, when you look up for a small bag of chips, and that's all it says, a small bag of chips, for £1.40, you are automatically, at the till, charged £1.80 and if you query it, they say they advertise a small bag of chips for £1.40 is only half a bag of chips, but it does not say this. Have you ever been to a chip shop and asked for half a bag of chips? What a con this is. But if you look on their table menu, small chips is £1.80. Its all a bit confusing, but they are ripping you off!

Have just had takeaway meal from The Jolly Fryer. I have to say it was totally revolting. How anyone can wreck cod, chips and mushy peas SO badly is beyond me. Soggy chips with a layer of mushy peas ladled over them and finished with an undercooked piece of cod slapped on top. It was the most revolting looking meal I have ever had the misfortune to be served and it didn’t taste any better than it looked. The dogs ate it while we had toast. Complete waste of money, will never use them again.

Great food and good prices, portion sizes are good. As well as takeaway you can eat in the restaurant at the weekend.

At last open again after covid for sit-down fish and chips. Excellent, just as before. Friendly staff, and amazing hot, fresh, cod, chips and mushy peas. Simply the best. I came all the way from Switzerland for this, and it was worth it.

Unfortunately, since Covid the Jolly Fryer seems to have deteriorated. They seem to be going for quantity rather than quality. If we go when they've just opened in the evening we feel sure that they're warmed up from lunch time. It's hard to gain a good reputation which they did have but easy to lose it !

Just moved to the area and everyone said the jolly fryer is the best chip shop. So we were really looking forward to a fish and chip dinner. Found place to be very clean I was served quickly. Social distancing was being adhered to. Ordered fish and chips and sausage and chips twice. Staff were very polite we did not have to waitWe live 5 minutes from the chip shop and went straight home. It was not nice . to say it was Luke warm is being generous. The chips looked anemic and did not taste of anything. The curry sauce was nice. I will try again and hope our experience was just a bad night.

The fish and chips were gorgeous. Well worth a trip out too. Easy to park in Asda car park. There was no resturant because of covid so only take away.

as u.k. in lockdown and you are not allowed to go into and cafes and restaurants and sit down for a meal things are a bit hard as them cafes and restaurants if don't do takeaways are closed do to CONVID-19 like all supermarkets the restaurants inside them are closed

Visited here for the first time seeing it was top of the reviews and was not disappointed. Very good covid system in place and very quick at getting through the orders. Food itself was very good nice curry sauce, well cooked chips and lovely non-greasy fish. On par with the fish & chips in Outwell.

These fish & chips are quite simply the best outside of Yorkshire in my opinion. Gorgeous batter and huge portions too. The menu is very extensive but all we had was amazing I have to say. What a great place to find when on holiday in the village. Thank you so much. Just phone your order through and pick up whatever time you say, it’s there ready for you.

We often decide to go to the Jolly Fryer for a delicious lunch and are never disappointed with the superb quality. It is also conveniently located in Wisbech.

Not the closest Chippy but worth traveling a bit further to get our meal, fish is always lovely, we have always used this chippy

I've eaten here plenty of times before. Once I experienced dry, smelly cod and became ill after as I didn't realise that 'fishy' smell meant it wasn't fresh.

Such is the standard here that if it is only good you feel almost cheated! I've been going there for some years now and take all my friends who stay with me. We're all agreed that it's the best fish and chip restaurant for food, value and cleanliness. Also the staff are very friendly and helpful. The same customers seem to turn up fairly frequently and so it must be doing some right.

I used to think that you could only get really good fish &chips by the coast, I guess the port of Wisbech is closer to the sea than I thought!

Been eating here for over 20 years and the Chicken Maryland is to die for. 1/4 chicken, sausage, pineapple, mushrooms and chips. Great value and great taste! There's a reason this place is busy!

Picked up fish and chips approx 5pm 16th December. Chips fresh just cooked. Fish stank definitely not fresh and not just cooked. Half of the fish was just hard batter. The other, dry cod I could not put my fork through. Whilst I was waiting young assistant made a joke that the chips were not ready but the fish was. Have eaten here for two yrs no problems. But have to say have always arrived later in the evening.It smells terrible, So either the Jolly fryer are warming up left overs or they have a batch of off cod.It is hard and dry although it seems to be a large fillet the cod is so thin and stuck together hard.Really disappointed

I live close to the North Sea in the North East and thought our fish and chips were the best, but these come a close second. If you live near a visit is a must.

I would highly recommend visiting here if you haven't already been. The queues speak for themselves. Restaurant has been refurbished as well.

Food wasn’t good staff not at all friendly didn’t enjoy at all so wouldn’t recommend nothing more to say about this

Went for a Fish & Chip supper and was not disappointed, had a sit down and found the restaurant very clean and the staff most welcoming - it was my first time here and the lovely girls showed me to my table and talked me through the menu - I opted for the haddock which was hanging over the plate! I've often found the either the fish is fab or the chips are great but here both are spot on!It was a very relaxed atmosphere (and very busy!) and the price was very reasonable too - I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone and although I have tried the takeaway judging by the queue I would say that it is very popular!

Really good quality, I’ve ordered jumbo burger with fried chicken and KFC can hide. It is one of the best chip shops I’ve ever visited, definitely will visit again.

Just looking at the plate gave a hint of the enjoyment to come. Freshly cooked, crisp golden batter and white fish underneath, I could not fault anything about it.

Visited here quite a few times now and it's the best we have tasted. Tried seaside fish and chips but doesn't come close. We mostly eat in with a nice brew, great atmosphere and great food.

The Jolly Fryer really do do some of the best Fish and Chips in the area. We have never been disappointed and the staff have always been so friendly and helpful. The prices too are not sky high. We will certainly carry on having our monthly fish and chips from the Jolly Fryer.

Visited Wisbech for a weekend away with my wife and had read reviews of the Jolly Fryer and how good the food was. The reviews did not disappoint! Absolutely stunning food, large portions and at a good price. Helpful, friendly staff too!

Cod fillet was fresh and the batter was light! The chips were also delicious, light and not too starchy due to the variety of potatoes that they used. The pineapple fritter with ice-cream with syrup was to die for.

The staff are all fantastic and the food is out of this world there is always a queue but there fast cheap and I’ve never had fish and chips like this

We went into the Jolly Fryer at 6.30pm on a Tuesday evening. There were several people in the seated area, but we found a table, and sat down. A very pleasant waitress came and took our order. My husband asked for plaice, chips and mushy peas.I am a vegetarian and ordered a veggie burger and chips. We also had a pot of tea. We did not wait long, and we were not disappointed. There was plenty on the plate, and well cooked. My husband is very fussy about his fish, and the batter, and he was very happy, and that takes some doing!! The batter was crisp, not soggy, and the chips were dry, not swimming in oil/fat, and it did not upset my stomach. There is a varied menu, and we shall be returning quite soon. Thank You.

Since moving to the Hants/Berks borders just over a year ago, we have struggled to find a decent Chippy that sold actual Cod with chips cooked fresh in clean cooking oil without having to pay a Kings Ransom.

Ordered two fish and chip lots. One with salt. It was bad enough having to pay an extra 80 pence for the salt. But the fish was dry and tasteless, the chips ok. Thank god it’s not are local fish and chip shop or I would never eat fish and chips again.

Just had haddock and chips. Haddock k was over cooked and chips were not great. The service was very disapointing miserable would be the word that comes to mind. My wife had cod and chips which she really enjoyed.

We had lunch at the Jolly Fryer today, the restaurant is clean and well presented. The portion sizes are large, the haddock was sweet, moist and coated in a crisp light batter, accompanied by a mountain of chips, all served piping hot.

So many visits to this establishment and so many good takeaways that I can't begin to count. Freshly cooked fish in a crispy and tasty batter. Tons of chips too

This is the best fish and chips in Wisbech. The fish is excellent, white and flakey the batter very crisp, the chips are a good colour and tasty they also have an extensive menu. The staff work extremely hard but they always have a smile and welcome.

Good quality fish and chips. There's a restaurant with high is busy and prices are higher but you expect that. On a very busy road without much parking but we park in Asda next door.

We have eaten at the Jolly Fryer before but this evening we had a takeaway. Service was very swift, and the portions of fish and chips were very generous. The fish was very fresh tasting. Well worth a visit to this unpretentious establishment.

We was recommended the Jolly Fryer by an Estate Agent who was showing us around a Bungalow in Elm. We have used the Restaurant as well as the take away. Because the food is excellent you have to be prepared to queue as it gets very busy both lunch time and evening. Well worth a visit if you are in Wisbech

Excellent fish with mediocre chips, the fish is large, white and flaky with the batter being crisp and tasty it is always fresh. The chips are a large portion and most times are anaemic looking and a little soggy, I think they need to be cooked a little longer or at a higher temperature.

Great fish and always a good size, the portions of chips are always large. There is always a long queue waiting to be served and sometimes the chips are very pale in colour, although they are always fully cooked. I think this is the best fish & chip shop in Wisbech and the queues prove I'm not the only one to think this.

You only have to look at the queues on a Friday night which says it all but don't panic as very fast service so well worth the 10 minute wait.

I've had take aways a few times from here several times but only eaten in once.I find the fish very greasy and the pastry on the pies very stodgy. The menu is limited and i'm surprised that in the current climate they are still using polystyrine takeaway boxes.

Visited early evening on a Saturday to find a very busy counter. Queue moved swiftly and orders fulfilled equally as quick.

Now I am what you call a really fussy eater, and I can honestly say I don't think I have ever rated a chippy before, as most are just average. But I'm pleased to say the jolly fryer is absolutely second to none, excellent food friendly helpful staff. Would definitely recommend.

Probably the best fish and chips we have ever had the pleasure of eating. They work hard to make sure your meal is the very best and nothing is too much trouble.

They always give you a good portion of freshly cooked fish and chips. The queues speak for themselves. Very popular so allow time to wait. If you have a bit more time then you can sit in their restaurant and relax without having to worry about the washing up.

Grabbed a take away while visiting from Denmark. The service was quick and very efficient which it needed to be as the place was packed. The cod and chips was excellent, crispy and very tasty a real pleasure to eat. Well worth a visit.

Delicious chips: thick, & fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside. Easy parking next door in Asda car park. They don’t take cards but there is a cash point at Asda’s. Highly recommended

We decided to give the boys a treat and get them some food from the local chippy which had been recommended to us by the campsite we stayed at and I can honestly say these were by far really nice fish and chips and the price for four meals was also cheap as we only payed £16 which I thought was really good

The jolly fryer food is excellent as always,but the only gripe I have is that you can never go in there without queuing! Which is a good sign I suppose, but nobody seems to have any idea where to queue! Is it that difficult to go in the door and queue round to you’re right hand side and slowly head towards the counter but obviously not ! As every time I go in there there are people standing everywhere and it’s chaos! Surely some signs on the wall or on the floor would help and make the whole experience a bit bearable but apart from that the staff are very friendly and food is top

I joined my daughter for lunch in the restaurant part, with Nanny and great grandad. She is 2 and goes every Friday with them. It was lovely. The staff all knew her and said hello as she walked in. It was very busy but the service was fast and the food was great. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.

The sign of a good fish and chip shop can usually be noted by how many people are in the shop. On a Friday the shop opens at 4.30 (I think) and the queue waiting for it to open starts at about 4pm. In the early evening the queue snakes around the shop but it is well worth the wait. The staff are very efficient but friendly. The cod is huge and meaty and one portion of large chips easily feeds 2/3 people. I moved recently and now live 10 miles from the shop. Having tried the local chippie we still drive to Wisbech as we find the Jolly Fryer much better quality at a fair price. Highly recommended.

We have friends that travel from Holbeach to this. For the best fish and chips in the area. You will not go hungry either as you get a whale on a plate and chips to match. All great quality and plenty too boot.

The Jolly Fryer is several miles from us but it's always worth the journey for excellent fish and chips. Always great quality. The place is always busy from it's great reputation.

Good old fashioned fish and chips. Good food, good service, the only thing letting this place down is the fact that it doesn't take card payments.

I'm easily led, especially when it comes to food. If anyone so much as mentions they enjoyed their meal at a particular eatery I'm the kind of person that will go out of my way to experience it for myself. There is a catch (no pun intended) however...at the very least the place needs to look clean. This includes staff clothing and not least, crockery. Visible hygiene sorted, leaves the taste buds free to enjoy the pleasures associated with delicious food. Yes...I know, this is a chippy. Lol.

Returned home from our Cruise this afternoon and as we were tired from our journey we decided to round the day off with a visit to the Jolly fryer, as usual the meal was first class, the quality and and size of portions are 2nd to none, the chips are the best I have tasted since I used to work in Great Yarmouth and got my chips from the stalls on the market. Would never hesitate to recommend.
