Animals were lovely but this place isn't as accessible as it says it is. Paths were uneven and steep. Some of the exhibits were hard to reach or completely inaccessible. Inside is cramped and difficult to navigate, barely anyroom to turn or move.

Came out for a lovely family trip and got greeted by traffic and no clear spaces to park. Absolutely gobsmacked! Nearly had a asthma attack from the sheer gobsmacking amount of smoke in the air! Honestly should have a better ventilation system. Cafe took many minutes to give us our food. Drinks didn’t come out till we had to beg for it. Only gave one stars for the eggs Yum Yum!!

I'd have given 0 stars if I could have as I never got any further than the car park. I drove in and because I didn't park where the car park assistant wanted me to I was told I wasn't welcome and was asked to leave. Basically he stood there, didn't indicate where to park so I 'started a new row' his words. An exchange of words followed and I had to leave. Absolutely bizarre.

We booked a table in the morning, have wanted to try the steakhouse for a long time now, visited from Peterborough. And definitely worth it 🌟 When we arrived we were greeted in a lovely welcoming happy manner, The restaurant was clean beautifully presented staff were well dressed polite and professional We were seated easily in a booth that was spacious clean and had all table settings cutlery menu's condiments. Etc.. The overall customer service by Bethany was fantastic.. Attentive, helpful, fun, not over board pestering that you can have sometimes at places but at hand if needed engaging and informative made our experience enjoyable and relaxing thank you we hope you are recognised and appreciated. We didn't have starter's or desert as had been a long day for us both but wanted the chance to experience the steakhouse mains Omg the main... I had medium fillet Max had rare medium ribeye with king prawns and we had the homemade coleslaw and onion rings to share, both had peppercorn sauce. 100% perfect thank you to the chef and all catering colleagues cooked to perfection and plentyful, I even said to Max I had my feet/legs doing the happy dance with the beautiful flavours and perfectly cooked steak and sides his was also cooked to perfection and I had a tiny slice he wanted me to try of his and omg melt in the mouth perfection and am now looking forward to switching from medium to rare medium, Will absolutely visit again and tell others as it was wonderful from start to end Extremely happy content and grateful

I like walking around the park. Very nice for my son after lots of rain there should be gravel paths so people can stay clean. In the tea room ordered some chips. As shown in picture they are dark brown very greasy and for nearly £3 For small bowl. It's not acceptable to send out food in that state. I will not be buying from the tea room anymore.

OK, so it's been very wet of late, but frankly this place needs to invest in some proper pathways to their exhibits. Admission fee cannot cover the operating costs, but we had to abandon the woodland walk as it was impassable. The emu's looked bedraggled and miserable, pecking forlornly at the ground looking for food. I question the size of some of the enclosures for the puma's and lions. The latter in particular needing a lot of space. The saving grace was the cafe with the cake and coffee going down nicely. It seems the priorities of this place need to be realigned to the visitor experience and the welfare of their livestock.

The Zoo itself is an embarrassment. Only zoo in the country to have a sloth bear and yet they have a chimney blowing smoke into its enclosure ALL DAY, this chimney also filled up the Racoon dog and Eurasian eagle owl enclosures with smoke, suprised none have died of lung cancer yet. Reptile house had alot of still stagnant water in some enclosures, but some cool crocs, very clear theres low animal maintenance levels, further more little to no educational value for the different exhibits (no signs/broken signs). Cats were very visibly distressed. The restaurant and shop were lovely, though.

We went Sunday for the carvery; got a couple drinks and sat down for ten minutes before getting our lunch. As we started eating a family with a baby came in and sat in one of the booths near us. The baby starting crying and screaming, without any apology or attempt to take the child out to the baby changing rooms and changed the baby's nappy on the seat. We could not hear ourselves think and many of the other people were looking to see what was going on. As for the food itself, the topside beef was chewy, the vegetables were cold and the Yorkshires were tasteless. Will not be visiting for Sunday lunch again. The butchery department is superb.

The animals are amazing and the view you get it’s really something special. The zoo keepers were feeding the animals and he took the time to talk to my children and explain alittle bit about the animals which I thought was lovely and my children were amazed at the facts. Me and my family came here to visit the small zoo and steakhouse for my dad’s birthday. It was a horrible rainy day, but even then we had an awesome time. For a small place the zoo has a wide range of animals from raccoons to lions. Only taking us 30 minutes to walk around and watching them feed the animals, it was still a good time. After a fun but wet afternoon we settled in at the restaurant for the Sunday Carvery. I chose to have the beef and turkey, both were simply delicious. The steak was beautifully cooked, probably the best I’ve ever had, truly a fantastic steakhouse. The service was lovely and even helped us with the wifi while dealing with our 3 month old daughter. Quite pricy but honestly worth the pennies. Even with our belly’s full we visited the farm shop of which was narrow but had everything u could think of, we only left with a cherry pie but we could have spent thousands on the pastries, rugs and knives they had on sale. A lovely experience for those wanting a a good day out!

Really great local farm who care about all that they do. Especially good for festive season needs, and have been going there for years now. I realised I hadn't reviewed them, so am doing so now as they were particularly helpful with the festive order - there was a small mistake which could have happened to anyone, and one of the owners apologised in person and gave us a larger bird than what we ordered. People like this deserve your money - not supermarkets.

During my recent visit to Johnsons of Old Hurst, I was thoroughly impressed by both the zoo and the shop. The shop stood out with its wide variety of items, all of which were of excellent quality. Whether you're looking for unique gifts, local produce, or specialty items, the shop has something to offer for everyone. The attention to quality is evident in every product, making the shopping experience truly enjoyable. The zoo is an absolute delight and well worth the price of admission. It offers an intimate and engaging experience with a variety of animals. The zoo's layout is visitor-friendly, allowing for close-up views and interactions that are both educational and fun. It's a fantastic destination for families, as well as for anyone interested in animals and nature. Overall, Johnsons of Old Hurst provides a unique combination of shopping and wildlife experience. The commitment to quality and the value for money make it a must-visit destination. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this place is definitely worth a stop.

Extremely disappointed. I would NOT recommend. What I thought would be a highly recommended meal turned out a Saturday evening disaster. We arrived and were over pleasantly but politely shown to our reserved table. After waiting 35 mins and still not being asked if we wanted a drink before our meal, we had to finally call over one of the only 2 members of staff that were actually taking food & drink orders. There is no strict eye contact made by any caring staff, so you have to wave your arms in the air to get attention. Believe me, this was a Saturday evening, however it was NOT busy with only about 10 tables of people dinning ( which now I understand why!) When the starters finally arrived they were fine apart from being slightly cold, the 3 chicken wings for £8 did seem a little extortionate! Again, when the main meal turned up the steak was cooked well, but like the single mushroom and additional sauces it was mostly cold and the chips were dry and overcooked. The salad garnish was exactly the same as the starter. Does the fault lay in the kitchen and lack it's ability to get the right food out at the right time, or communication with the waiting staff? There were enough staff taking empty plates and resetting tables, but only one staff member behind the bar, so why did it take so long for the meals to be served nearly cold. (Possibly too much social media chatting and not enough professional catering experience) It seems their system of service needs some serious attention if they want people to recommend their restaurant. To be very honest I've had a better and cheaper meal at a Miller & Carter steak house. So why has this restaurant deteriorated in such a short time? Indeed, to a critical status which has provoked me to write this review.

Johnson's has changed so much in the past decade, The farm shop, tea room, crocodiles, ostrich, goats, deer and play area was a big draw for us as a family when the kids were young. The development of the dedicated lizard house was a brilliant addition but the more recent addition of Lions, bears and owls elevates the experience in ways I didn't think possible... particularly when the Lioness starts stalking your dog from behind the fence 😅 A great day out.

Definitely not a 3 hour visit, an hour at most... (unless eating inside) Just visited the Christmas Market today, entry price is OK, not worth more than £4 an adult and under 4s go free. Unfortunately there were a few issues as follows: 1. The chaps manning the car park are of no help, entered the car park and unable to find a space, all the drivers entering are going around like lost sheep. 2. We headed into the overflow parking and got a decent spot. 3. If you have a pushchair/wheelchair then I would give it a miss. The paving is horrendous and we struggled with our pushchair. Being more wintery weather the grass was muddy and slippery. 4. The animals were a hit to see, our 3 year old thoroughly enjoyed it, the signs for the animals need a clean nothing a bit of spray and a wipe before the day starts wouldn't sort. 5. Signage needs improving, so you know where toilets are, where to locate each animal area. 6. Toilets - 1 gents loo, 1 changing room. For an event, despite a small event, you need portal's or something to handle this. Farmshop was OK, bit cramped due to several pushchairs but we do look forward to tucking into the pork pies!

Hi firstly can I just say that we were celebrating 🍾 our daughters 21st birthday, the restaurant placed 21st banners on our table and weights for our balloons 🎈 such a lovely thoughtful gesture 😊 the carvery was outstanding amazing food, however one of our guest requested an alternative a (non roast dinner guest) The manager went out of her way to accommodate with an alternative that wasn't on the menu, that meal also was outstanding. Thank you all so much ❤️

Little disappointed as they only serve carvery now on a Sunday due to lack of interest from the main menu when the carvery is on.
