Johnson's Fish & Chip shop in West Lindsey

Went in today at lunch for fish and chips and peas. nearly £10. Really disappointed how over cooked the bland fish was, chewy, not soft and flakey - like a fish finger done in the oven. Small size as a regular portion, I think I will stick with Leons.

Went for the first time last night and what a gem of a place! Very welcoming on arrival....and on departure. Even though it was very busy service was quick and efficient. And very good price for the portion size and tasted amazing too. This is now my go to fish and chip shop.....by far the best I've tasted in Gsinsborough.

Queue out the door, but I really didn't mind. I was looking forward to a tasty meal. MY PIECE OF FISH WAS PHENOMENAL. Also bought fish cakes & scampi & large chips. Under £20. Would definitely recommend it.

A family run gem. Only discovered them recently but now wouldn't go anywhere else. Mr Johnson and the ladies are so friendly and efficient and the whole place is spotless and so well run. Even on a hectic Friday dinner service everyone gets looked after the same and is greeted warmly and leaves with fantastic tasting food.

Friendly staff selling excellent Fish-n-Chips ... best Fish-n-Chips I've tasted in a long-while, with excellent large flakes of tasty fish in a quality batter ... only take-away ... but there is a very nice park 100yds away with seating facing the river ... or eat in your car if you're not heading straight home.

Have only lived in Gainsborough for a few months now, was told that adams bay was the chip shop to go to, but I’m afraid to say it was wrong Johnsons is brilliant, good atmosphere fresh cooked, fish was fresh. Will definitely be going back!!

Don’t very often buy chippy tea and after looking at Google reviews we decided to give it a try!! The nearly perfect reviews were more than correct! Very generous portion sizes at very generous prices. We got 2x large battered sausages, one large chips, one regular chips, beans and curry sauce (both large) all for under £14. I’m not a skinny fellow and I couldn’t even finish my large chips, although I wanted to because they were delicious!! All staff were friendly with a smile and very quick service! Will be our go-to chippy in Gainsborough for sure!!!

BEST FISH AND CHIPS IN TOWN! This is by far the best fish and chip shop in Gainsborough with the most friendly of owners Rob and Terisa! Give it a try you wont be disappointed.

Dropped in on this fish and chip shop whilst doing an overnight visit to Gainsborough on our narrow boat. I just wish I was hungry enough to have fish & chips. They looked and smelt delicious. The fish had proper spiky batter just like Whitby fish and the shop served scraps too free of charge. There were no scallops but they specifically prepared some just for me. A great fish and chip shop to visit.

This was my 1st visit here ,I was actually a bit surprised to find 5 or 6 customers already waiting inside the premises as it wasn't long after the 4.30pm Saturday evening opening time.The Staff on duty were very pleasant & chatty with the customers in the queue & even thanking everyone as they left with their food.The waiting time wasn't too long .I just tried a Regular size Chips ,priced @£2.85 which was served in a box with plenty of Salt & Vinegar.I did pay by cash but card payments are also accepted. Once outside I found the chips to be fantastic, à good size portion, pipping hot & very tasty,just how traditional chips should be .I do now understand why this Fish & Chips shop appears to be very popular with the locals. I do recommend you try a visit here like I have done as you won't be disappointed .I will definitely be back again .the next time I'm in Gainsborough.

There isn't a better chippy round here. The fish is always so fresh and well cooked, absolutely massive portions and the team are so friendly. Would recommend this to anyone, but make sure you are hungry!

Not many places left that do proper fish, chips and scraps, it's a fantastic little shop and often the queue is outside but they get through the orders pretty quickly and the food is definitely worth any standing in line for.

We’ve lived in the vicinity for over 18 months and have been looking for a favourite fish and chip shop in the area. We found it last night at Johnson’s in Gainsborough. We had haddock chips mushy peas and sampled a spam fritter to rekindle school dinner memories! The service was on the ball, friendly and the food top drawer…the haddock was huge, and full of fish rather than batter. The chips were perfect. Really impressed.

Been going to this place since it opened so around 9 years. The staff are friendly and their prices are spot on. You get a lot for your money. Best bit? The food. Its delicious.

After hearing people rave about this place we thought we'd give it a go finally. If I'm honest I wish we hadn't because without doubt they were the worst fish and chips I've ever had. The chips were tasteless and the fish overdone. I definitely won't be rushing back.

Delicious fish & chips. You are served with your takeaway order as you have your turn at the counter. Great as you are always asked if you want scraps. Owners are friendly.

Came across this chippy when walking down the trent side. My word it was really really nice and cheap very cheap was shocked at how much it came up to considering we had 3 children and 2 adults including my self. will definitely be visiting again.

This was a great find when we traveled through Gainsborough yesterday. We only had chips on this occasion, but they were the best we had eaten in many years and the medium portion was enormous. Will definitely return.

Food is of exceptional quality every visit which keeps us coming back. Reasonably priced and the service is very good.

Was very disappointed. Saw the chips cooking and they looked gorgeous. Had fishcake and chips with crispies. The crispies were terrific, the chips were very greasy and the fishcake was totally flat, very well done and had zero taste or sight of fish in it.

We were recommended this small chip shop by a local and we were so wowed by their fantastic fish and chips and the friendly service that when we had finished eating by the river Trent we went out of our way to return to congratulate the owner on his wonderful product. Fresh and tasty, beautifully cooked with pride these were some of the best we've ever enjoyed ( and our regular chippy is the famous Aldeburgh one).

We go to Johnson's at least once a fortnight, we are so lucky to have such a good fish and chip shop on our doorstep. The fish is always fresh, the batter light, crispy and tasty and the cops are perfect. The staff are super friendly and the place is always spotlessly clean. 10/10 for everything.

This is the second time I've been here. The chips are good, but the fish is slightly cheewy. There is another chip shop we go to where the fish is the same. I wonder if it is because the fish is fully skinned, allowing the fish to dry out. When I've been to chippies where the fish is not fully skinned, the fish has been more moist.
