Food was amazing. Haven't tasted a perfect cod& chips recently, however staff were slow to take orders eventhough there were 3 people there. They were standing around chatting and took their time

£8.40 for a bog standard chicken burger with bacon is ridiculous

Got from Lisburn tonight (Saturday) the food was fantastic , I got the Hawaiian hotdog was messy to eat but worth it best hotdog about Lisburn, excellent service and food excellent

No signs to say Card only after a certain time called in at 9.44pn tonight to be told card only I only had cash on me no phone or bank card with me as it doesn’t close until 10pm so cash up shouldn’t be done and cash should still be accepted unless signs posters stating otherwise. We’ve been critical of here in past reviews and returned yesterday 1 March 24 for the first visit in a long time. We got cod & chips pension specials and the battered fish which was real tasty was thin in 3 of the 4 nuggets. Honestly make it 2 or 3 nuggets and make the fish a bit thicker as batter should never out proportion the fish. Chips were perfection again the portion isn’t generous. Gas prices have fallen electricity prices are going to drop and yes I know it’s still dearer for everything but prices were increased benched in prices at their highest but costs have receded. We will return more often as its quality seems to be there. Staff are always very friendly.

I got chips and fish bites and my husband got sliced chicken supper. We were both very disappointed. My fish was soggy and chips were lukewarm. My husband's meal was lukewarm and just wasn't nice. We paid over£18 and will certainly not be going there again!

Very tasty fish and chips. EXTREMELY large potions. One between two, with one small chips is ample.

Very bad services always get my food wrong

Normally the food is excellent but got a fish and a small chip last night and was extremely disappointed. Fish over done, practically burnt withe the batter practically impenetrable. The chips were mostly scraps and again overdone. Only l live quite a distance from the shop I would have returned the food. Still suffering today due to severe indigestion.

V disappointing. Had to wait for well over 30mins for my order . Fish bites were v soggy and lukewarm, as we're the chips. Our friend got served much more quickly, but his order was totally wrong! What is going on? The team that were serving last night were disinterested and v inefficient.

I've tried fish and chips in lots of different places across the UK, but John Dory's is easily the best one I ever tasted.

Hi got food last night just wasn’t up to standard that it used to be curry sauce was like a thick paste fish wasn’t great and chicken goujons looked weird inside and the batter was crispy was not soft and burger was overcooked. This used to be absolutely lovely but recently i feel standards have fallen big time.

Just had 2 fish and a chip carry out from here tonight. Amazing just as good as a restaurant. Don't know the name of the guy who was doing fryer but he is an asset to your company as last time we got fish and chips from here he was working. It was cooked to.perfection. Well done to all the staff.

The food in this place is boggin and far too expensive. Smallest portions ever. The chips were not cooked properly and the chicken burger was disgusting. Avoid it.

My partner ordered a fish supper, a fish and a curry sauce. Chips seemed like they had been reheated and the fish was not a full fish only bits of fish. The batter was swimming in grease and way too salty and the curry sauce was just pure gloop. This place used to be good but it has really gone downhill and now it’s rubbish and the price for the rubbish is extortionate. Won’t be returning. Steer clear

The best Fish and Chips for miles

I was a fan of this place but the cod fish portion I got the other evening was just mean and though I won’t say I’ll not return I guess it’ll be a long time before I do. The distance for me to here is the same as to Kilkeel. I go for the senior deal when I go and it’s common to get this deal. This time last year it was a fair deal here but I’d say I got less than half the amount of fish portion that was usually served. A cod fish finger is as thick. Now I do get it. Prices have risen, but I’ve been touring England in recent weeks and for £6 I was able to always get cod (in some places the cod was cheaper than haddock) and a generous portion of chips with a decent size portion of fresh cod. Some even had a wedge of lemon. If I opted for rock fish I’d save £1. I visited 5 different places in England in the last few weeks for fish & chips and today I went to Kilkeel. John Dory is the exception for really mean portions - there is a lot in it at about half the fish portion. Everyone else has similar overheads and material costs. I guess they aren’t living wage payers to staff so I can only conclude as the headline says I was just ripped off.

Took well over half an hour to get a cod supper, a fish and a combo meal, and they made two of them first and left to go cold, mine was the combo and for that price it was pathetic, onions barely battered, missing or I assume missing chicken, rubbish sizes and they really need to advertise the nacho bites as cheese and not chicken as I couldn't eat them due to being severely lactose intolerant, very very disappointed.

Was not expecting much after reading reviews. But it was fabulous this order anyway. Not many do breaded haddock around. It came so crispy and firm and three good pieces of haddock. Best around for a long time. Young man frying was pleased when I complimented the dish. At £6.80 it was reasonable for such a big portion of fresh bread crumbed haddock. I will be back Recommended.

Looked up the opening times on Google and on the John Dory app. Both clearly state the opening hours are 1200 to 2200. I arrived into the Lisburn store this evening at 2147 to be informed the shop was closed and there were no longer taking any more ordered. I informed them both the app and Google state the store closes at 2200. A girl by the name of B*****y was serving on the till and very begrudgingly served me and informed me they only had chips left and no batter for anything and they were trying to clean up I went to pay with cash and was informed I could only pay with card. Clearly the till had been done at least 10 minutes in advance of the official closing time. I don't understand why a last order time is not mentioned if this is the case, I wouldn't have bothered going if I knew this was going to be the situation. B*****y has a serious attitude and her customer service skills would leave a lot to be desired.

Sat ages waiting on food as young girl was on her own food is very expensive other chippies are alot cheaper & quicker asked for raw onions on gravy chip got fried literally turned me the grease off the onions plus I asked for peas wasn't told there mushy hate mushy peas the chicken burger the chicken was burnt & rock hard the batter would have broke a tooth

Put way too much sauce on my cheese burger. Tasted like road kill. I advise not to ever but a cheeseburger with red sauce. You will be scarred for life.

We have been using John Dorys Lisburn since we moved here in 2011. At that time it was one of the best takeaways in the area for both food quality and value for money. It is sad to say that this is no longer the case. Over the last two to three years there have been several changes made that seem to have a primary focus on maximising business profitability. This unfortunately has been at the detriment of customer service. John Dory have moved to their own app based ordering system. Staff no longer answer the phone meaning that unless you order via Just Eat, you have no way of getting issues with your order addressed should there be a problem. The food prices have increased exorbitantly and the portion sizes have been reduced to being barely adequate. I know all business costs have increased of late but John Dorys are now one of the dearest chipshops in Lisburn. The app also charges you a "processing fee" each time you use it. It isn't as if customers have a choice if they want to place an order. The alternative is driving down to order and get the food yourself but there is no longer even a menu on display behind the counter like there used to. It is just pictures of a few meal deals displayed. This almost sends a subliminal message that the takeaway no longer want to directly deal with the public when taking orders. Orders we have placed within the last year either were delivered cold or have had something missing from them. This week my wife went in store to order a gluten free meal. She was told by staff that they no longer do gluten free as it has been stopped by Lisburn City Council. This used to be one of John Dorys best strengths as a chipshop that they catered for folk that cant eat wheat. Lisburn has quite a few great chipshops now. if John Dory don't listen to their customers I fear they wont be there much longer which would be a shame.

Fish is fantastic pea really nice, chips was disgusting..

Having previously purchased from this establishment, I was shocked to find the quality of what was produced left a lot to be desired …! The chips were re-heated and dry and the “Greasy” yellowed frozen haddock would have had the local cats fleeing ! Needless to say the lot went in the bin, which at the prices they charge was an expensive exercise. The management proudly show an “ OUTDATED” award, however I presume this award was for speed of service opposed to quality of what the staff produce ! I definitely won’t be spending my hard earned cash at this place again, I have more respect for my health !

Having purchased from John Dory’s Lisburn on previous occasions, I thought I would place another order for simple “Breaded Haddock” On opening the takeaway box, I was shocked to fined a so called haddock, which incidentally appeared to be previously frozen as the colour, texture and flavour left a lot to be desired. I would go as far to say, that the fish appeared to had given itself up ….. and as for the chips, they were most definitely reheated and dried up. At the price this establishment charges for fish and chips, the produce should be spot on and not something the local cat would turn it’s nose up at. Suffice to say…. I certainly won’t be throwing my hard earned cash away, by shopping here again . The staff appear pleasant enough, however their aim is to get food out quickly and pay no attention to the quality of what they produce. I’m gob smacked that the owners of this business have the audacity to maintain they are an award winning establishment. The award must be very old and pertaining to the speed of service not the quality of their expensive produce !

Great service and the 3 Lady's was amazing and food could not fault them on it.

This was my eight visit to jd lisburn yes I know eight time and they still got my order wrong why did I keep going back because I was hoping and praying that maybe one day they would get it right my sister in law got gluten free food and the reaction she had was far beyond what she expected yes she was ill for two days will never be back she says and I'm now agreeing with her as will my friends who have also experienced the mismatch orders its very sad that it has come to this as at the start of jd when they opened the food staff service was excellent

I have always loved their chicken kebab with house sauce. There was always plenty of sauce and it was quite spicy. Hadn’t had one since before lockdown and was really looking forward to it. What a let down. The chicken was bland and the very small amount of sauce was completely tasteless. Total waste of money

Portions are a disgrace, over priced disgusting

Absolutely awful, made my order of a few items, included in this was a plain quarter pound cheeseburger. Waited for about 10 mins and got my order. Went to the car only to discover the burger was full of salad with some white colour sauces and tomato ketchup. Took it back and stated the order was a plain quarter pound cheeseburger, the young girl behind the counter apologies and she said she would get me another one, I replied I will come back in a few mins as my other food would be getting cold, this I did and was handed another burger along with another apology. Walked to the car opened the carton to find no cheese on the cheeseburger! I again went back in and stated to the same young lady it was a CHEESE BURGER, this has no cheese on it. She just looked at me, no sorry nothing. I left the burger on the counter and left. What a waste of over a fiver for a burger. The staff obviously didn't listen to the order and omitted the cheese on the second attempt what poor service, wasn't even offered a refund, not at all pleased as I am quite a regular customer.

I was the last person to review this place. This place does fish & chips exceptionally well and while prices have risen around 20/30% since my last review the quality remains top notch. I think it wouldn’t do to reduce portion sizes given the price hikes. It was service with a smile too. My chunky cod had a perfectly light crisp batter and it was delicious for such a simple thing yet I cannot think of one fish and chip shop within 15 miles of where I live that gets close to this place and they are awful in comparison. I can’t even guess why they are so bad as we are only talking a few (less than 5) ingredients. The chips too were ace. I guess the food is cooked in beef dripping and having had fish cooked in vegetable oils (rapeseed, sunflower, olive, peanut) nowt beats pure beef dripping. Delightful meal despite it being unhealthy it’s likely far less unhealthy than the international burger and chicken chain restaurants.

Long time from I have eaten from John Dory’s and I will not be back. Over priced, small portions and greasy food. Some of the food just went in the bin.

Placed an order at 6.45 nothing arrived by 8pm so rang the shop only to be told it hadn't left the shop yet leaving a young family starving certainly won't be ordering again..

Completely received the wrong order, called the store to see what their procedure was and was told that I accepted the order so I was stuck with it, or reorder and pay again. Complete joke, won’t be back

Ignorant, untrained staff and overpriced, substandard food.

We only ever go for the senior citizen special because we are, and it’s often enough for our appetites. We only ever eat near the takeaway to get the fish as hot and crispy good as it can be. I think those who own it need to make sure not to be mean in portion sizes as the meal price has gone up about £1 in 6 months and I’ve noted a bit of skimping. Our pensions haven’t risen 25% in 15 years. I know that other reviewers sometimes criticise the staff attitude but when we were there they were run off their feet. A few staff seem to have had a personality by pass so there’s little banter but I’ve always found staff courteous and polite. Another barrier to banter is the high counter and fryers - it’s very difficult to see the staff on the other side of the fixtures.

At 1952hrs I ordered food via the John Dorys app. I selected a 2040hrs delivery time which was appx 50 mins from my order time. I paid for the order and waited. I received a txt 4 minutes after ordering to tell me my order would arrive at 2130hrs and not the 2040hrs that I selected via their app. I wasn't happy but I was prepared to wait. The time was now 2135hrs, no food had arrived despite nearly a 2 hour wait. I phoned John Dorys. I spoke to a pleasant young lady who apologised and claimed they were very busy. I explained the circumstances as above and asked for the order to be cancelled and a refund issued. The young lady agreed to my request. No claim was made that my order was on its way and should be with me. I can only assume my order wasn't even processed when I rang. Needless to say I will not be using or recommending John Dorys to my friends and family. Very disappointed.

Customer service is shocking. Got accused of being a liar down the phone after they forgot to put a small bag of chips in my order. Food isn't great either and if you are on a very strict diet and have loads of money to waste, then this is the place for you! Very small portions and very high prices!

food isnt great here at the best of times, but i have eaten here a few times as its near where i live. However, on one occasion, which was my LAST occasion, I arrived home to find half my order was missing. So i instantly rang them and they had the absolutely nerve to call me a LIAR. Said i was trying to get chips for free (taking in mind that this was a small portion (A VERY SMALL PORTION) and worth £2.85. I drive an £12k car but im trying to scam a mini portion of chips for my 6 yr old!! So i went back to the chippy and they very rudely wrapped up the chips and slid them across the counter to me. When i asked if the girl who called me a LIAR was about they said they had no idea what i was talking about!!! WONT EVER BE BACK AGAIN.

Fantastic food, amazing customer service and speedy delivery service. Highly recommended. I just ordered take away for myself and friends and everyone loved their meals the Chicken Maryland was a huge hit and a huge portion, everything was cooked to perfection as always . I order from here at least once or twice a month and never disappointed.

If you buy from Dory’s make sure you have a loaf of bread handy because at £2.85 for a small chip (consisting of about 10 dog ended and cold chips) it’s daylight robbery! I’ve gotten small/kids menu from other chippy’s and have never seen a portion size that small - or trays that small. I have gotten more chips with a pastie or sausage from other chippy’s than what Dory’s consider an actual portion. Wouldn’t mind if the price reflected the portion sizes or if it was quality over quantity but what I got was cold and waxy and were eaten immediately so that wasn’t the issue. First and last time going to Dory’s — worst chippy I’ve ever eaten out of.

Rude and abusive staff told me to wait outside in the rain because they can only have four people at a time in the shop even though I was the only customer in the shop and that times when I have been in before there has been upwards of 6 staff behind the having to push past each other and not one of them wearing a mask I will not be back

We’ve been a few times in the last few months breaking lockdown but good fish & chips has to qualify as an essential journey. And for us it’s a 50 mile round trip - that’s how impressed we are with this place. Yes it’s unhealthy food, not as unhealthy as burger or sausage meals, but a little of what you fancy can’t be all bad. For us it’s always cod and chips here. We have yet to be disappointed with our food and we always note the fact that the batter on the fish is necessarily crispy thin with the result that the cod shines through and is always fresh and tasty. The prices are fairly steep, so it’s essential for them to keep serving first class battered fish and chips. I think if I got sub par food I’d take it back but we have always found our food top notch. The littlest pot in the sides range should be scrapped and the next size up made standard as the littlest is quite mean for the prices charged. There must be something in the water around here. This place is right next door to Wok’n Chinese. The staff in both places don’t really engage with customers - a friendly hello wouldn’t go amiss but thankfully the food is good enough to stand alone.

App is completely misleading, burger on its own £3.95 but under the meal section charged £6.15 for meal, when I called to say there was no chips they said it was because we added cheese (£2.20 for cheese on the burger?) girl on the phone was completely unhelpful and rude and couldn’t care less to be quite frank. Came off the phone very angry and disappointed, customer service costs nothing!

Hi, ordered a takeaway for myself & my wife. Because of covid19 we had to book a time slot. The time slot we got was 5.20pm . I ordered a fish supper & drink & my wife ordered chips gravy & peas. . Our ordered arrived over an hour later. My fish supper was cold and so my wife's . Iam very disappointed with this service and will not be using them again. Rab

The 2 cod supper for £12 deal is seriously good value .....staff are lovely & very professional ....customers are well looked after & fish is beautiful & huge!

Visited today 21/10/19. John Dorys in lisburn used to be quite good but i think the standard has really dropped, ive been twice in the past 3 weeks. I had asked for a cheeseburger with relish, i got a hamburger, no cheese with mayonaisse which i hadnt requested! The portions are getting less also. I wont be going back anytime soon when you can pay less and get good portions on Longstone St, and probably taste far better also!! Very Poor John Dorys

Ordered a plain cheeseburger meal, burger wasn't properly cooked, I got a measly excuse for a chip and I was charged 60p for a tub of ketchup lol. I will go back to the other chippy I use regularly where I get double the chips and have never been charged for ketchup with any of my meals. A small gesture goes a long way to encourage customers to return - I am disappointed in this branch of john dorys.

They are the only fish and chips in belfast I would trust to eat! Clean, fresh and original recipes.

We ordered a chicken gujon meal and burger meal from the Ballyhackamore location on 28th November. The food was stone cold when it arrived and the gujons in particular felt like old shoe leather.I phoned to complain and spoke to the manager who suggested we get a refund via Just Eat. When I told him that we couldn't do that he then said that he would give us a replacement to compensate and would put a note on the system.Following evening - stupid me - I phoned to place an order. There was discussion in the background and the manager came on the phone again and told us that he would be only replacing one meal as he believed that was the only one I was talking about the previous evening. I explained that BOTH meals were inedible but I'd mentioned the gujons because they were particularly distasteful.So then I got a lot of attitude and condescension about "store policy".What a bloody disgrace. We have been paying customers for years from your various outlets and this is the sort of nonsense that passes for customer service?NEVER AGAIN - rubbish food and bad service. Piece of advice - go take a look at what the Frying Squad considers a gujon meal, then compare it with the crap we were served from Ballyhackamore. Then you might get an idea why we'll be taking our hard earned money to them from now on.ThanksDavid

Visited the lisburn shop earlier 18/11/2018.Bought 2 cheese burgers and a small chip. £10.10 How can 30pence be justifiable for a slice of cheese on a burger?? I knew what the price of a burger was going to be before ordering so it's not like I went in blind so to speak. But to charge £3.95 for a 5oz burger and cheese/slice is not on. I thought to myself it would be a decent sized burger with grated cheese and at least look well presented. Kind of like a gourmet burger. But alas it was not A rustlers burger would of been better presented and may be more satisfying. The small chip was just that. 2 spuds at best. Plus they weren't that great. Not very warm either when I arrived back home with them. And I live about 4 minutes away if that. Plus the chip was £2.20??? £2.20 for what may have been 2 potatoes hmmmm I shall not be back in the establishment again nor would I recommend it to anyone.

It’s a pretty good chippy. I’ve only ever visited at lunchtime so I can’t comment on the night time offerings. It’s out of town, located within an off road garage site and there’s a Chinese takeaway next door. I got a lunch deal (£3.99) of cod goujons (2 pieces) with chips and a small pot of coleslaw (1 out 5) instead of mushy peas, I should have gone for the peas as the coleslaw was poor. This was a great deal, and with the food cooked fresh to order it was hot and just right to eat there and then. Fish & chips must be munched hot. The fish batter was crispy light and the fish just like the chips wasn’t at all greasy. The staff are a friendly bunch too so what’s not to like.

Have eaten there many a time a food is generally of a good quality and the staff are very friendly. Only one small thing the Cod/batter was greasy . Apart from that all was good hence the 4 stars. Trust me I love my food but Dorys dont let thi gs slip.

Bought a fish supper today at 5pm, 06/09/18 at Carryduff Centre. It was lukewarm and not prepared fresh, dried out and stale. I will not be back. John

Tried twice and same awful burnt food. Batter is tough orange with dried fish and the chips are over cooked and rock hard. Fish and chips are meant to be golden batter with moist fish. Chips with fluffy potato but not here. Tastes of dirty oil too. Stick to local independent shops. Nemos in Finaghy is how it’s meant to be done. Different league

I was in Lisburn on Saturday at a preseason football match. On my way home called into the John Dorys bedside the garage on the Hillsborough Rd.

I have been a customer of John Dory’s, Carryduff branch for several years now. Although I have never been fully satisfied anytime (e.g. portion sizes got smaller with each visit, cheese for which I paid an extra 30p for was forgotten, chips were all scrag ends, salt and vinegar not put on chips even though I specifically asked for it, etc, etc) my experience in June 18 was the worst. I bought a chicken fillet meal and a cheeseburger meal and requested specifically that there should be no mayo or tomato put on the cheeseburger meal (due to intolerance). When I got home I found the cheeseburger was covered in mayo and the portion of chips was minute! I returned to John Dory’s with the cheeseburger and my receipt to tell them I was sick of not getting the correct order. The staff were very rude and when I mentioned about food allergies and the severe consequences of a customer not getting specifically what they ordered I was made to feel like I was asking for something that could not be delivered! Eventually they said they would make me a cheeseburger (without mayo) but I will never return to this chip shop. Poor customer service, very small portion sizes, lack of any attention to detail and customers specific food requests ignored are the reasons why I will not go back to John Dory’s!

On 5 separate occasions have over last several months have received either wrong order or incomplete order. This costs time and petrol to return to rectify. Their solution is to offer a free chip which I refuse. How about getting it right as an outcome. The last order I ordered by phone and a gravy dip was included with fish even though I had ordered curry. The chips were hard and tasted like they had been reheated. Not going back until standards improve

Is it just me or are the standards at this John Dory's Hillsborough rd Lisburn going down.

Great wee chippy food is lovely. I would try the all day breakfast as you get good portions and it’s only costs just over £4.00. They also do delivery after 5.00pm but I do advise to phone bang on 5pm as they get very busy. You can also order from this chippy on just eat which is great as you can pay by card.

Fantastic. Got an all day breakfast and it was huge. Reasonably priced and very clean shop.

Food is very good!! Waiting times a little long, but that's due to food being cooked fresh. Never had an issue and staff are friendly.

Rang an order through for collection called 10 Minutes after to be told it would be a few minutes no problem. Then waited for a for a further 20 minutes before going to the counter to ask what was going on. Turns out it was already sitting there the whole time. Best they could do was make it for me again, I think not my time was wasted enough. The shop wasn't even busy no excuses for a bag of food sitting for 20 minutes without a staff member noticing. Staff unprofessional and maybe having to much craic between themselves not enough work. If I owned this establishment I would have a serious check at your staff. Won't be back no reply needed. Thanks.

Popular spot so you can have a bit of a wait on occasions. Friendly staff, big portions and the food is really good (my photos don't make it look appealing but looks can be deceiving). Ingredients sourced locally - boards up in store showing where they get them which is pretty cool #supportlocal.

Food is nice but because its popular service is slow as they cook from fresh. Better to phone order in from home. Let down by everytime I go there they leave items out of order or else wrong item. Wrong dip etc. Hard to check when food is packaged. Othetwise ok

This restaurant is lovely but would be nice to get ur full order when ordered As I have missed out in gravy and salad in most orders but there food is outstanding
