John Carrigan's Eating House in South Lanarkshire

We've been many times in the past and have had mixed experiences. On this visit, the meal was delicious, one minor gripe, the soup could have been hotter. Main courses delicious and plentiful, staff very pleasant and efficient as always. All in all a pleasant experience.

Went for lunch with my daughter. I had small portion of Steak Pie and daughter had Pizza. Both were delicious. Even managed to leave room for dessert due to smaller portion, Sticky Toffee pudding with custard was fab, my daughter had chocolate fudge cake with ice cream. She couldn’t finish the dessert so we took the rest home. Great service as always. Pleasant and friendly staff.

Food good as usual. Wish more of the menu came with smaller options. I really enjoy the gammon steak but 10 oz is just too much for me. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Great that you can ask for small changes to the menu eg one of the party didn't want a certain sauce on their desert and it wasn't a problem. Only issue was a mistake with the bill which was rectified promptly and staff couldn't apologise enough.

Fab food- fab service and great atmosphere. This was a birthday lunch and the four of us had a great time. Staff always professional but friendly.

Went here for my in laws 60th wedding anniversary. This was booked ages in advance for 30 people and had to be paid the week before in full. Also were told latest was 6.30pm as kitchen closes. We were there bang on 6.30pm. Waited over half an hour for a drink and an hour and half for starters. 3.5 hours for a 3 course meal. One girl serving a table of 30 was shocking. She did her best but far far too much for one person and ruined the night as everyone was wilting as waited so so long. The food was really really good however they need to do something about the service. Booking and paying upfront for the mezzanien shouldn’t mean that you receive below average/shocking service. We didn’t complain as this was booked and paid for by my mother and father in law and we didn’t want to seem ungrateful. Would I go back to carrigans-yes. Would I ever book the messanien-NO.

Had another lovely meal in carrigan's Hamilton.. The menu rarely changes but there's so many good dishes to choose from, never get bored of it.. Really good portions and always delicious.. The only dish that could be improved is their fish and chips, everything else is 🤌

This place really lived up the hype, the decor is lovely. I went here with family and friends who all had diatry requirements. The menu was great and so many options, I'm gluten free and had enough choices. The portions are huge but took home leftovers. Will be visiting again.

Brilliant meal for a family of 3. Huge starter which was piping hot. 2 massive burritos , again piping hot and HUGE and a lovely burger. Staff so friendly and lovely. Great value for money. Highly Recommend

We visited Carrigans in Hamilton last evening. We were sitting in downstairs area due to my mobility and very cosy near fire. We all enjoyed our meals though soup a little salty for our taste but otherwise perfect. I had small portion and was very generous puddings scrumptious 😋 . Highly recommend. Waiting staff lovely 😍 and very helpful. Meal leisurely and didn't feel rushed .

We enjoyed a lovely family dinner. The restaurant was very busy but staff tried hard to attend to us without too much delay. The starters & mains were all delicious. The children's desserts & adult ice-cream sundae were really good. However the sticky toffee pudding had no sticky sauce. It was just dry sponge and very disappointing. The lemon meringue pie lacked flavour so also disappointing. A very welcoming restaurant with good menu choices, and reasonably priced.

Lovely meal at Carrigans in Hamilton before the cinema. Booked for 5.15 and seated on arrival. Staff smart, friendly and attentive although food was around half an hour to be served. Worth it when it came though! Huge portions and delicious, as is always the case here.

Food was lovely. Service was good, however I don't like putting 5 people on a table for 4. Felt a bit tight. That's always an issue with 5 people in Hamilton carrigans..always ...that's my only issue

Lovely meal for Mother’s Day. Food was very good and the staff friendly and helpful. The log burners were on giving the restaurant a cosy feel on a rainy day.

Had a lovely lunch with my friends here which we do regularly. The steak pie is delicious would recommend. Friends had the fish which also went down very well. Comfy seating had our usual spot which seats six perfectly.

Great family pub and grill, separate sections for the restaurant side and pub side. Families of all ages are welcome. I'll be honest , being Asian and walking into a pub sometimes draws a few stares , even in this day and age but never have I felt that in cardigans , I bring the wife and kids regularly and they love it as much as I do. We don't drink but again no issues , food is brilliant , service is good..always busy so I'd recommend making a booking prior. Prices are reasonable as well for the quality and quantity of food your get. I'd definitely recommend

Heard great things about this place. Unfortunately the chicken I ordered was like rubber. Took over 50 mins to get our food, no starters. Wanted to like it and was looking forward to going. We're unlikely to return tbh.

We have recently got several takeaway orders... The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is amazing 👏 My hubby adores their Milanese, their roasts are unbeatable and the cajun chicken I'd delicious 😋 The sauce that comes with it is fabulous 👌 I love their coleslaw, it's homemade and sooooo tasty!! We thoroughly recommend Carrigans Hamilton. It needs to be visited to be believed.

Absolute shocking experience Right for the start had to wait 20 mins got my table that I had booked as the last people using it turned up late then was informed only had the table for an hour as they had people coming in In the end I decided to leave personal all the staff should be sacked will be taking this higher to the managers

Was there for a funeral function. Was a lovely meal with nice and attentive staff.

This is definately the best Carrigans - even though it was the week before Christmas and they were really busy staff were great, as was the food, and it had a great atmosphere and was decorated festively.

Got the sirloin steak on special menu and it was pretty damn good. Only slightly let down by the peppercorn sauce which accompanied it which was slightly watery and a wee bit bland.

Foodbhad been really good value for money . Staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful.

The starter was fine, my partners carbona didn't taste nice, when this was mentioned the server informed the chef would be told. My partner ended up being sick the next morning. The service was slow and disjointed. The toffee Carmel sponge was sponge with stewed apples and cinnamon sprinkled over the top , no sight of a toffee combination. All in all a very disappointing night.

Just myself and wife out for a quiet night, the food was excellent as always, the service was spot on didn't have to wait for anything even with the place being very busy.

I booked carrigan's Blantyre for dinner on Friday 22/12 six weeks ago for a party of 4 adults and 2 children. Received a phonecall at 9.15pm tonight the 21/12 to say they had overbooked and could not accommodate us. This company I have given a lot of business to over years including birthday, mother's day meals and more expensively my daughter's baby shower, hosted at the Hamilton establishment. We are all extremely disappointed in carrigan's as a company that they can let customers down at the very last minute. We will not be entertaining them again in the future. Be Wary.

22/12 Girl that served with blonde hair in a pony was absolutely lovely, a real credit to you. The food was ok, 3 out of 5 enjoyed it mac cheese and pizza was a bit plain and stodgy and the chicken in the fajitas came home for the dog which is unusual but everything else was good.

I never eat steak at a restaurant however I did here and had a fillet steak that was absolutely delicious. The place was really full which is a clear indication that they are doing the right thing. Not only was the food delicious, the staff friendly but a minor hiccup with the service resulted in them not charging for our drinks. The only negative point is that we were visiting family in Scotland and we live 500 miles south of this restaurant otherwise it would be a weekly trip for us.

Booked Carrigans for our work Christmas party night. Food was excellent, as was the service. Great choice at the bar too.

Always enjoy a visit to Carrigans in Hamilton. The food is good and plentiful. The staff are great. One waitress came to speak to us and asked how we were as we hadn't been for a while. I can't remember her name but it was so nice she remembered our previous visits.

Having been to Blantyre branch several times we visited here and food quality, service and standards are just as good. If looking for nice food, value for money this is the place.

There were 5 of us in Carrigans Blantyre last night for our office Xmas dinner and when we asked for the bill one of our party paid her share by card so we divided the rest up - 2 members of the party were not drinking so it wasn’t that hard to do. All we had was 1 bottle of wine, an alcohol free cider, fresh orange and the person who paid by card had 3 glasses of wine. Hardly a huge drinks bill. For some reason the waitress then brought us a second bill which was higher than the original amount which £40 had been paid by card. When we questioned it we were informed that it was indeed our bill and we had to pay it. Luckily I had the original bill in my bag and produced it. Eventually they agreed that the bill was wrong but it was only because we really dug our heels in - the girl dealing with us wasn’t going to accept the original bill! Now I know mistakes happen but it certainly wasn’t our mistake or our wine!! Why would we order drinks when we were leaving?? I believe they wanted us to pay for the drinks for another table that had been added to our bill after the £40 payment!!! She was unbelievably rude and aggressive. We then asked for our tip back - which added up to more than 20% because it was Xmas not for good service because the girl who brought our food really didn’t want to be there!! And we weren’t leaving them it as the girl we were dealing with didn’t even apologise for her mistake!! When we said a ‘sorry would be nice she just walked away. It was so unprofessional. She has worked there for a long time and I had previously seen her in the Eddlewood place - you’d expect her to be more professional. Food was fine. Staff - awful. Wouldn’t recommend.

Food first class. Surroundings are excellent and the staff and service are second to none. Nothing is too much trouble and the choice is all you could ask for. Never disappoints.

Attended with friends, there was a choice of fish and chips or steak pie. The fish and chips looked really tasty. I had the steak pie which came with roast and mashed potatoes, carrot, sweet potato and green beans. Absolutely loved it.

Slow service and every time we ordered drinks they go them wrong, food came and was nice and large portions. Ordered dessert and they got this wrong aswell. It wasn’t even busy so no excuse for poor service. Young girl serving us seemed annoyed at us because of her mistakes.

The food was, in my opinion, mediocre however the staff were lovely even though they were very busy.

We went for a Sunday Lunch at 1PM. Service was a bit slow. Normally you get good service and good quality food but overall the food was average - chips were cold on the 2 meals that had chips (they were replaced when we highlighted the problem). Not sure if they were short staffed but the food just wasnt as good as normal.

A nice atmosphere, good old fashioned pub and restaurant. it is always busy which is a good sign. The food was plenty, tasty and well presented. Waiters are on the ball and professional. All in all a nice place to go for what ever reason with a drink or a meal.

We were put in a corner where we were out of sight of the staff and had to shout to get attention. Courses were slow out. We asked for mayonnaise, which the girl left to get and didn't come back!! No one checked if we needed anything, including cutlery which we had to take from a table next to us. Pretty poor all round to be honest

Great food and fast service. Good menu choice and the desserts are lovely. Some activity sheets to amuse children while they wait but that's never been too long.

just the usual top class service and food I go here often but I was disappointed this time as we waited an hour for our food and when it came mine wasn't as hot as it should have been and although I asked to have the fish with out the sauce it came without vegetables too I didn't complain about it as I don't like vegetables anyway also I had an appointment to go to afterwards and having waited so long I thought if I complained I would have to wait for mine while the rest were eating and I might miss my appointment , it wasn't busy when we were there 12 noon and the area we were in was empty when we arrived but then two other tables were occupied and one of them was served before us even although they arrived later, this is the first time I haven't been happy so don't know the reason for this this time

Great service, friendly and attentive staff. Great atmosphere and food is awesome with ENORMOUS portion sizes! Do yourself a favour and come here for a bite to eat, but make aure you book im advance….. there’s a reason it’s always mobbed!

Was there end of October 2023 for a wedding reception,absolutely brilliant place food was amazing especially the steak pie. Staff where really friendly & helpful as we not from that part of the country. Definitely be back nx time we’re back up in Scotland.

Just left the restaurant, second time dining here first time was fine but what a bunch of dour faced servers some of them looked as if they did not want to be there. Menu's put on the table and walked away had to ask what soup and roast was. We have been to all carrigans restaurants food was good but sunday roast was not great. Asked for bill again it was put on table and walked away put the cash on the table and left service was zilch! There was more atmosphere in the carpark! I work in the catering industry not good Hamilton won't be back. Need to take a leaf out of other two restaurants books.

We usually go to the Blantyre one but fancied a change of scenery. Great food amazing lamb plenty of menu choice and the prices aren't cheap but they aren't expensive either. I want to try the EK one next! 4 meals and a round of drinks we were about 60ish quid which I thought was great

A very busy place on a Friday evening, clearly very popular. The service was quick and friendly. The food was really very good and generous portions. Tex Mex chicken was excellent, plenty of crunchy coated chicken liberally covered with pulled pork and cheese, with decent chips. Lamb shank on colcannon mash was delicious and served with a variety of perfectly cooked vegetables. Food and drinks all reasonably priced. Not the place for a romantic meal, as busy and quite noisy, but if you want good food at a good price, this is the place.

Didnt eat or drink, on arrival at front door strong smell of dampness also it looked tired staff were nice and kept tables clean but clearly living on it's past went to the east Kilbride carrigans that was much better so hamilton needs investment
