JK's Chinese Takeaway in Calderdale

We chose this Chinese takeaway due to the gluten free options. The Cantonese style sweet and sour king prawns I ordered were very delicious - I just wasn’t so keen on the really large pieces of strangely chopped carrots, but you can’t have everything! The egg fried rice was lovely too. I just wish that there was a very clear gluten free menu so that I could choose from that, opposed to guess which might be ok and ask, as every dish I asked about, they had to carefully consider and it took 3 tries before I could choose something that was suited. But saying that, gluten free is generally so poorly accommodated in Chinese takeaways, I was just grateful for what I could have.

Not just the best Chinese in Hebden (by far) but one of the better Chinese takeaways I’ve ever had the pleasure of living near. Veggie and vegan offering is huge and high quality, sauces rich and flavourful, portions generous. Always hot, fresh and delicious! Couldn’t fault them.

Never open hardly, when they are never answers the phone, don’t take card payments, don’t deliver. Food is usually nice when you can actually get any. Shop front has become unsightly and looks like a garage clearance site.

Crispy Duck…was neither crispy or duck. Was meatless and the fat wasn’t crispy at all. Ordered half a crispy duck and it was equivalent to a quarter. Not worth £20.

Excellent food as always! Have previously gotten vegan options which were *chef's kiss* but the meat options are great too! I recommend duck highly. The staff are lovely and made some great recommedantions!

Very enjoyable and tasty food (especially the quite delicious chips). I go to this place quite a lot and have never been let down by the food/service.

Avoid this place, you'll be glad you did. The food was once decent but in recent times the standards have plummeted. Re-cooked food from the previous day, cheap ingredients and staff who could really care less.

Probably the Best Chinese Takeaway in the North of England. Veggie dishes like Mock Chicken, Mock Duck and Tofu that are hard to find in most Chinese Takeaways. Very very good. Well worth a visit and Takeaways.

Food tastes great, quick service, Huge portions so it's good for lunch the next day as well. The new lady taking orders is very efficient as well.

I had to write a review after seeing the recent bad one... I'm lucky enough to live here in Hebden Bridge and JK's is my favourite local takeaway. JK's does the biggest selection of veggie chinese dishes I've ever seen anywhere and everything is absolutely delicious. I am crazy about the tofu in black bean sauce and the mock duck pancakes are the best - oh and the mock duck with teriaki sauce dish is amazing too! Just writing about them in this review is making me want a takeaway tonight! Also got to say that the folk work there are the nicest people you could wish to meet - everyone is cheerful and polite so all in all I would give JK's 10 out of 10.

Never eaten anything from here before and never will again. The member of staff that I placed my order with was far from friendly or welcoming. The food tasted tired, old and stale. Most of it was barely warm despite the fact we live only a cold of minutes walk away and ate it straight away. Quite pricey as well. I would recommend Him Man instead of this place.

Nice staff, food average bit expensive too

We eat at JK’s regularly and it’s always great food. Fresh ingredients, really tasty food and brilliant service. You can’t go wrong.

Ignore bad reviews. These people clearly gave no tastebuds. Thank you JK for your consistently delicious fresh food. No it's not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. The mock duck/chicken choices are vast and they dont skimp at all on the portions. It's our Friday treat we look forward to every time. Great friendly service too.

The chinese came to £31 which I didnt think was bad for four of us however got home and a couple of items were missing... disappointing. Food when opened was then very poor, would certainly not recommend. I hate giving bad reviews but that was awful.

This was my 1st visit and I have to say the quality, quantity & overall value of the food was really good. With such a wide choice of dishes available I can only comment on this visit but I shall certainly be back, I hope the next selection will be just as good. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for a Chinese takeaway in the Hebden Bridge area.

Best Chinese food around by a country mile!

Not impressed at all the chicken/blackbean dish was gloopy not a nice sauce and you could turn it upside down without lid on and wouldn't fall out. The chicken fried rice was bland as was the noodle soup and the chips were all little hard crisps had saved up for a treat and threw it in the bin and had toast prawn crackers were OK that's all that was won't eat here again

My partner and I got 2 separate noodle dishes and they were far too salty - both dishes were inedible and went in the bin

Spent 14 pound on 2 special fried rices, and prawn crackers,for me and my 9 years old son ,and was the most disappointing, rip of meal I have had, mostly just rice and peas , hardly any taste,very bland ,and very little meat, if I lived a bit nearer, I would have took it back, very poor avoid the place !!

Always great food and not too expensive. Never had bad customer service either, staff are always smiley and helpful.

JK’s is always fantastic for us. They have a very extensive menu and is much better than the run of the mill Chinese takeaway where I sometimes find you get more sauce than actual food, not at JK’s though! They are definitely THE best in the area and they don’t scrimp on the ingredients.

Best around salt and pepper chip the best

Whenever we get a chinese we always go to JK as they offer great vegan options, and also do vegan noodles which we struggle to find at any other chinese

Absolutely fab Chinese. Salt and Pepper squid and crispy beef with garlic and chilliest were our favourites. Quick and fresh. Don’t hesitate to order!

Could be good but salt and msg off the scale... and I'm somebody who like salt a lot!...some good fresh ingredients, but to repeat myself... all our dishes had a shocking amount of salt/msg...

having thought we'd try a chinese, looked on tripadvisor, saw k's in Hebden, ordered paid went home.The ribs were red hot! nice but in a BATH of sauce so had to scrape of surplus and let cool down, on eating it them they were crap tasting, gloopy and hardly any pork on them..left them! 2 main courses chicken cashew and sweet and sour chicken x2 fried rice... cashew meal looked bland if not victorian workhouse slop tasted and not eaten, sweet and sour tasted 2 out of 10 ate a bit between us, thougt better of it £21 wasted!!! very poor quality food overall, in the morning the tray of spare rib sauce had set to a jelly that looked putrid! not good not going again not recommend like my money back! .. both had stomach ache within 1/2 with what little we had tasted! both body functions in the morning were not as normal!

Happy getting a standard take away from here. Nothing special but definitely all right! Nice mock duck starter if you're veggie/ vegan. Friendly staff.

I happened upon this Chinese takeaway by chance - being sent out to buy fish, chips & curry sauce at 9:00pm & finding the nearest chippy closed I then scoured the town for an alternative - JK's did not disappoint in anyway whatsoever - we tucked into - deep fried fish with ginger & spring onion - one of the best fish dishes I've tasted anywhere - some quality Chinese restaurants would struggle to match this - tofu with aubergines in black bean sauce, all the ingredients cooked to a high standard - accompanied with chips, crisp & not greasy & boiled rice, fully cooked but not overcooked - a large vegetarian spring roll, crispy pastry filled with succulent sprouted mung - a large tub of curry sauce, the likes of which I would find it difficult to equal in other Chinese restaurants or takeaways - this of course is a first impression & return visit will be a must to ascertain consistency - well done to the staff & management of what has now become my No. 1 Chinese eatery.

Poor, tasteless food. I ordered a chicken chow Mien. Very disappointed as I thought this would have been a very good Chinese. Will not be ordering a takeaway again.

The food is very good and varied. Service is is quick and well packed so food is hot when transported home.

Me encanta JK. Cuando está bien los ingredientes son mullidos y frescos, los mejores ingredientes son generosamente añadidos a cada plato, buen aspecto y sabor. Lo mejor de la comida para llevar se destaca JK aparte de aquellos más pegajosa, antiguo chino y abarca una gran variedad de colores y texturas.

Great Chinese. Portions more than ample. Reasonably priced. Wouldn't go anywhere else for Chinese food.

We got a range of dishes one night for 4 people and it was only £33 which is excellent. I had the lemon and lime chicken but sadly it was more like chicken balls in lemoncurd, it was sickly sweet and the lemon flavour tasted a synthetic. The rest of the food was good but not amazing. We'll use this Chinese as the ones in Todmorden have woeful reviews and this one stood out.

On a four day home exchange break to Hebden Bridge we had visited nearby Halifax and on our return couldn't face dining out again. On reading the Tripadvisor reviews of the two Chinese takeaways our choice of JK's seemed a no-brainer.It turned out that we made the right choice as our starters of vegetarian spring rolls and crispy won-tons and main of Singapore Vermicelli were just right. The latter had just the right amount of chilli 'hit' and the portion size was past generous. I had rung up to place our order and it was ready for collection after only 15 minutes - very good service.So, if you're wanting a hassle free, tasty takeaway, look no further, I wouldn't hesitate in returning, perhaps to try some of the chef's special steak dishes.

We use JK,s takeaway on a regular basis.The food is always excellent. Freshly prepared and generous portions. Generally available to collect within15 minutes of phoning in our order. Would definitely recommend.

Recently renovated after Boxing Day floods, lovely and clean and bright. Quick service, freshly prepared food. Massive portions - what we ordered for two would have served four. Chef offered to 'upgrade'a dish, from ordinary to special, for no extra charge. Good take-away. Great to see some businesses back up and running again after flood devastation.

We regularly use JKs which in our view is the best Chinese takeaway in Hebden Bridge. I say this because the only time we ate from the opposition our son went down with an unpleasant stomach bug. Jus offer good service - food ordered on the phone is usually available to collect 20 minutes later. There is a good choice of starters and mains on the menu, and the portions are generous, so much so that left overs often end up in the freezer.

For a long time this was the only source of vegetarian chips in Hebden! They do lots of nice Chinese food, and prices are very reasonable.

This is a takeaway in the centre of Hebden Bridge so we expected it to be good as it is a foodie town. But the food was greasy and tasteless. Not going back until I read some decent reviews.

Been back twice now and in my opinion, this is the best Chinese take away in Hebden Bridge. Keep up the good work you deserve to do well.

It's always great ! Chicken batter are really delicious. Unique salt and pepper chips , salt and pepper wings ,salt and pepper squids, and salt and pepper chicken . Almost everything can be cooked in salt and pepper.

all I can say is that any takeaway that is open from 12 gets a 5 from me as people these days don't have set times to eat now

I've recently discovered JK's although it is on the main road through the town! However, having eaten the food I will certainly continue to use this take away. The public area is clean & tidy. There are a large selection of items to choose from. The food is delicious & prepared very quickly. The staff are friendly & helpful. The prices are about the same as the other takeaways in the area. The portions are very generous & I've often had two meals out of one dish.

This was the first time we have tried this takeaway, we had four guests staying and decided to treat ourselves. We all ordered a different dish and they were all excellent. The portions were very large and we had quite a lot of leftovers. Service was a little erratic but the young chap behind the counter was new and learning the ropes. Would certainly recommend, however, parking is a slight problem.

Great takeaways! Use this place at least once a month. Lots of choice on the menu. Huge portions so be warned! Fresh ingredients and great flavours. No delivery but you can telephone and collect. Would recommend.

The vegetarian options are a very big amount and quite varied, the portion sizes are generous, and it's fast, fresh and tasty. I'm not sure why it to took us so long to try, but we are now repeat customers. Yum!

had a few meals from here since it reopened. Very big menu and the set menu is very good value for money. Wish they would rinse the rice as it's always a bit clumpy. The portions are huge, but mostly very tasty

Went here with my girlfriend before returning to where we were staying. Although the food was very fresh and well cooked, it was bland in flavour and we had asked for our chicken curry to be very mild and it was quite spicy when we got back and ate it!

I reckon this has to be the best Chinese takeaway in Hebden Bridge if not the best takaway in Hebden Bridge overall!! All the dishes taste so fresh and the portions are always generous. It's run by a small family and the staff here are amazing and very helpful too. They do a special teatime menu from Wednesday til Friday (Served from 2pm-4:30pm) and a Special lunch menu on Saturdays and Sunday served from 12noon till 2:30pm (Great hangover cure!!!) which is perfect for when you have cravings or fancy a light bite !!
