The best pasties in N.Ireland .A great traditional chip shop.

Called in tonight for a chip and a gravy chip. Had about a 10 mins wait, with one other person in there, but didn't mind as who doesn't like freshly made hot chips. Paid the £8.50 and was home in two minutes. Opened the bag which revealed one small portion of gravy chips and a slim parcel of what I thought looked like a couple of sausages. Was thinking, wrong order, but no, opened the small package to find about 10/11 warm, definitely not hot, chips wrapped up in the paper. I've never seen a such a small portion size of a chippy chips, ever. So, I'm voting with my feet, and won't be back. If your running a local business you need to think about returning customers. Poor value for money and cold chips 👎 Would not recommend 😊

Been going here for a while now and tonight was an absolute, fish was soggy, chips tasteless, no curry sauce so had to purchase tomato sauce in a carton which was more vinegar than sauce totally disappointed, will not be back Cafe fish is my choose for the future. A quick reply to your response, I was told my order would be ready in 10 minutes, I was back in to collect it in under 10 minutes and also this was my 6th visit here and in previous visits we were more than happy but tonight’s was not up to usual.

Needs a good clean. Storage area facing you at till is filthy. Chips obviously sitting a while as dried up. Fish greasy.

Awful customer service, bigger woman dosent know how to speak to people in a decent manner. Won't be back

This is the best fish and chip shop in the area. I may be biased as I am here once a week for past five years. The children’s deals are really good value. Cod always well cooked and chips good quality potatoes with the odd crispy bits I like. Onion rings superb and chicken goujons proper breast pieces. You can book ahead by phone or wait and have a chat with the friendly staff!

Just fancied a fish supper this evening so I checked Google to make sure Jess's was open. They were and my supper was prepared freshly for me and, after a very short wait it was ready. The fish was superb and the chips delightful. Staff in the shop were pleasant and helpful. I cannot agree with the post that is titled 'disgusting', this sounds like a one off and I felt the record needed to be set right. Give them a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Got goujons and they were not good. Practically no batter on them as it had slid off. Have had the fish and chips since and it was lovely.

I love this chip shop. The food is fantastic, the owners and staff are so friendly and helpfull. Lovely shop to go into. So clean. I was in yesterday for a battered sausage supper it wasn't too crowded but they had loads of phone orders. They are so quick and efficient. My partner and I had been looking for a fish and chips place around the Belfast area, or that would be a bit farther out, but worth the drive. We had tried a few closer ones and been disappointed, so we tried here as we both had heard positive reviews about it. As soon as I walked in, I was welcomed by the lady taking the order and the chef with a smile on their faces, and they gave me time to think comfortably. I ordered the fish supper, a pastie, a battered burger, and some onion rings. The fish and chips were perfectly cooked, and the fish still glistening and tasty. The pastie, I can honestly say was one of the best I have ever tasted, with a perfect batter to filling ratio. I personally don't like battered burgers, but my boyfriend was more than happy with it, so I'll take his word for it! Finally, the onion rings were nice thick rings of onion, instead of thin rings that would disappear within the batter. Overall, will definitely be back!!

Worst meal ever. Oil was about a hundred years old. Not even the seagull would eat it!

We keep coming back here because the food is always good. Never had a bad meal from Jess's Plaice. Great big cod portions, some free chips with it. I like their chips. Well situated next to the train station. They get a 4 on their Scores on the Doors rating. During the lock-down they've been a regular temptation. Ordering a Jess's Plaice take-away is a good excuse to get out of the house, chat behind a mask to the staff, and avoid my own cooking. I'm writing this in the middle of the night and wish I could go get one now!

Had the nicest fish supper and mushy peas from here today. Great portions and staff. The fresh cod was the best I've had in a long time! Highly recommend for family or just by yourself.

Just has fish and chips from this place with mushy peas. I’ve never eat food so bad in years. The fish was tasteless, overcooked and swimming in oil. The peas tasted burnt. All £18 worth was thrown in the bin. Dogs even turned their nose up at it. 🤢

During the pandemic lock-down all the restaurants and take aways in Whitehead seemed to shut down. Jess's Plaice was the first to reopen. We were very glad, because we'd always enjoyed their food. Having missed it for so long it seemed even better than before. We had cod and chips. It sounds basic, but their food really is great. The chip portions are gigantic, and you get a few for free with your fish as well. They're closed Sundays. Cash only, no deliveries. For now no sitting in allowed, you need a face covering, only 3 people maximum inside at any time, and other covid rules apply. We missed you, Jess's Plaice, welcome back.

Burgers good quality. Excellent chips. (They use beef dripping in the oil which makes them crisp). Fish fresh and batter crisp. Best thing though are the real (not reformed with flour) sliced onion rings. Generous portion for £2. Best to book over phone as they are super busy.

Best chips I've ever had, great portion size too! Chicken fillet burger was massive and plenty of dressing. All very fresh and tasty. Very short wait for food and very friendly. Will be back!

Got off the train at Whitehead tired and hungry from a big day out, so we stopped to eat in Jess's Plaice. Their fish would hang off both sides of most dinner plates. They come with quite a few free chips; so many that three of us only asked for one actual portion of chips beyond having three fish portions. With just that we were all well fed. The lady was happy to fetch me a drink of water three times over. They have tables and chairs inside. They get a 4 in their Scores-on-the-Doors rating. There are a few free parking spaces just outside, and road parking in two directions. You get a great view of the very handsome Victorian train station just a few metres away.

Absolutely delicious chips- always fried fresh! Really friendly staff would highly recommend. Will not be travelling to Carrick for a chippy any longer.

I’ve had from this chippy on many occasions, I would even travel from carrickfergus for it. It’s a 5 minute walk to the sea front where I would walk down and eat my fish and chips with amazing views. The food is top quality and I couldn’t fault it, I would definitely recommend coming here, the service is kind and friendly although you are in and out as its a fast service you are made to feel welcome in that short period of time. Excellent

Excellent fish and chips. Fish obviously fresh and good chips. Complementary noises from the kids on the burger and hot dog so pretty much 100 Percent all round.

Called in here whilst passing through. The fish was fine and you certainly get a massive portion of chips but unfortunately so many were crispy and hard. Sadly we had to leave quite a lot which even the dog didn't want. Maybe we just got the last of the batch but it was a bit disappointing. You can use the tables inside or take your dinner down to the waterfront and enjoy the view.Probably would not go here again.

Jess's Plaice opens on a Monday, so it was the place to go when we got the munchies that day. Ordered two fish but only one portion of chips. Why? You get a few chips for free with each fish, and the one chip portion is big enough to split and make two good meals. Liked the fishes, they were cod and were both longer than a dinner plate is wide. Tasted great. We liked the chips, too, so we were two satisfied customers. They score a maximum 5 out of 5 hygiene rating. Well located, very near the train station.

Though after the last time I'd give it another go is the idea you hide the box of crisps with the cheese should be crisp shop not chip shop learn how to cook for god sake you should be giving them away and even then I'd probably pass avoid and drive 10 mins up the road for a decent chippy

Maravilloso olor cuando estás cenando en un "fish and chips". Como dije en otro comentario, las fichas aquí son geniales. Tienes un montón de ellos. El pescado era fantástica, muy buena, y muy grande. Lo mejor de todo era la persona conmigo para poder comer tranquilamente viendo por la ventana, para ver el próximo tren a casa. Este lugar está muy bien ubicado, a sólo unos metros de la estación de tren. El chico que trabaja allí era capaz de confirmar los horarios de trenes. Gran mesas y sillas, un montón de luz de las ventanas, un lugar confortable para sentarse y disfrutar de la buena comida. Cerrar sólo los domingos. Abre de 4pm a 8pm lunes, 4:00 a 9:00 de Martes a Jueves, del mediodía hasta las 9 pm los viernes y sábados. Les dan una saludable 4 en sus resultados en las puertas. Tenían varios periódicos para leer, si querías.

When is whitehead going to get a decent chippy food freezing can't get a simple order right and if I wanted a bag of crisps I'd have gone to the spar and bought a packet of tayto oh and asked for a kids hot dog meal sorry we only do kids sausage meal well just stick it in a roll then !!

Ate some of their takeaway chips the other night. All very good. Popular place, there are always customers in here eating at the tables, and more collecting their orders.

Llamado a recoger comida para ser recibidos por la "freidora" teniendo su grieta culo y luego su pantalón hasta alzar constantemente mientras él preparado. Un chico joven (posiblemente 9/10 años) en bolsas mi pedido y establecer una bolsa de comida en el piso mientras él empezó en el siguiente. Y en cuanto a la hamburguesa de pollo y pollo goujons, apenas comestible para la cantidad de especias. Me hace pensar donde las especias actúan como camuflaje. Esperaba en el pollo pasta sencilla. I had some of there cod and chips, for a lazy night's takeaway. The fish was big and hot and the batter very good. You get an awful lot of chips with it, too many for one. Very good value, I must say.

Los goujons eran encantadores, yo pondría por separado, pero vienen con patatas fritas gratis, así que estaba bien. No tuvimos que pedir patatas fritas, con pequeños gratis en cada porción goujons. Te dan un pequeño plato de chapuzón, tienen diferentes, elegí la mayonesa de ajo, fue muy agradable y te dan un montón de cosas. Comimos nuestro llevar fuera en una noche de verano, fue muy agradable. Tienen varias mesas si quieres comer en el hotel.

Nota importante: te dan heroica raciones de patatas fritas. Los goujons vienen con unas patatas fritas gratis, pero una porción de patatas fritas, encontramos, era tanto como dos de nosotros podíamos comer. Lo que es un buen problema. Hacen grandes aros de cebolla. También nos dieron un pollo entero aquí una vez - ver fotos. La comida es buena.
