The staff now are very officious. The manner by which we were ejected was offensive. We used to love this pub but the current staff were offended when we “were not standing” to show our willingness to leave even after us explaining we were waiting one of our party to return from the toilet. An otherwise charming venue spoilt by staff who were unnecessarily rude. We won’t return there anytime soon.

Our group of 5 Norwich City away fans have been restricted to weekend games in London for a long time so as soon as we got tickets for a midweek away match at Tottenham my pub route was arranged with a start at the Jerusalem Tavern. The manager had always responded to my emails quickly and on this occasion booked us in for a table straight away.We arrived on time and discovered the table was best location in the pub and stayed for over 90 minutes to have a couple of pints and hot lunch.Between us we had the ham eggs and chips, sausage and mash and my choice the fish finger butty and chips. They were all excellent and washed down with the great selection of St Peters ales ( which was original reason for looking up the pub ).The atmosphere, service, beers and food were all excellent and it was a great experience for us all. We will be back and if not for a pre match beer will be with my partner when we next visit London.

In anticipation of a quick visit with colleagues, I looked up The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell, London on line. Primarily, this was because I don't know the area that well and wondered whether this pub plus eatery really lived up to the high praise I'd heard. Tripadvisor has since emailed asking if I'd gone on to visit and whether I'd write a review. The answer to both was, "Yes" based on impressions gained over an hour and a half and a pint and a half. Sadly, on this occasion, I had nothing to eat as I'd just come from an event elsewhere.

Great, but tiny pub in Britton street Clerkenwell, London. I think named after the nearby St John of Jerusalem gate in the original London wall. Dates back to 1720s. Cosy small pub where the patrons sometimes cascade onto the street. Nice open fire in winter. Friendly staff and great beers. Well worth a visit in the same street where the Triffids recorded a performance in 1980s or there abouts.

This is a revamped (1990s?) pastiche but based on an old (1720) pub and well worth a visit. The website gives the history; suffice it to say a most characterful pub teeming with customers enjoying the delights of St Peter’s brewery (Suffolk). Interestingly, although the beers were on draught most people were drinking the bottled version, possibly due to the delightful shape - modelled on an old American gin bottle.

A colleague introduced me several years ago to the Jerusalem Tavern, located a block west of St. John's Gate in Clerkenwell. It serves tasty ale from St. Peter's Brewery in Suffolk in an interior that looks as if it's a couple hundred years old but dates, in fact, to the 1990s. It gets very crowded and it's often difficult to approach the bar. Nevertheless, the ale is worth the trip, as is the atmosphere. And it's a mere ten minute walk north to Exmouth market for some proper dinner afterwards.

How can one of my favourite, local pubs be so far away? Easy! It's The Jerusalem Tavern. Part of a small row of early 18th century buildings 4 or 5 minutes' walk from Farringdon station, it looks the part in every way. Interesting draft beers and various bottles are the stars of the show. It even has alcohol-free beer on tap.The stars of this pub are definitely the beers. They are from the St Peters Brewery in Suffolk, and if that's not enough you have even more of the same brewery's beers in bottles, you can even take them home! This is not a large pub, it's the size of your average front room and dining room. Wooden floors, subdued lighting, no music and lots of communal benches encourage conversation. Because of its small size there is often a crowd outside in the street. On previous visits there has been artwork for sale on the walls. The building is part of a small early 1700s terrace, and the atmosphere just feels as though it's been there for almost as long, although I do believe the pub is quite a modern addition to the street. The brewery team should be very proud of their work. The staff are all wonderful and friendly, the customers all look the part too. I've never tried the food, so I can't comment on that. If only the brewery would open a few more in London to spread the good word!

I had a pint here and it is very atmospheric so if you are doing a walking tour of Clerkenwell then it is a place to stop. It looks very old and is crowded, dark and serves good beer. However although the name of the tavern and the building are ancient and historic I think the linkage between the two is rather more modern. In other words it seems that the pub uses an old name in a 1700 building but the fitting out is modern. This may spoil the experience for you.

All is not what it seems at The Jerusalem Tavern. It is not a surviving micro pub from the c19th century, it in fact used to be a tailors shop. It is however exactly what a pub ought to be like. Owned by St Peters Brewery, it is very small, serves only good beers and has a devoted following amongst those who know a good thing when they see it. Visit for step back into a past that probably never really existed, but ought to have done.

The tavern is rustic and authentic in terms of its decor, furniture and ambience. No music and nothing fancy. Great place to drink cask beer and chat up with an old friend.

Very interesting tavern, and old as well. Having a drink there feels like a piece of history on every pint.

I have been frequenting the Jerusalem since 2011. Consistently excellent service & great food with a oldy worldly atmosphere; no loud music or game machines here!My son said that their beef burger was the best he had ever had. The chef turns his hand to many different dishes, all consistently good. Dave, normally behind the bar is a convivial host. Hard to fault.

Stopped here on a few occasions now with friends when looking for somewhere to drink prior to eating elsewhere. The tavern has the feel of a very old (maybe 17th or 18th century) property although I believe it is not actually that old. It's a small winding property with dark wood fittings and very much in the mold of a traditional London pub. They serve a great selection of beers, particularly St Peters Organic Beers from Suffolk, with at least 6 beers on draft when we visited and a whole bunch more available in bottles. Quality of the beer was exceptional, and not unreasonable for London at around £14 for four pints which included a couple of their very strong beers. The bar is very cramped and seating is at a premium. We found nowhere to stand and where having to move constantly for others until we realised there was a bench outside where we could hover. We were fortunate it was a very mild and dry December day.Overall a great place to visit that is quirky and different from many other bars in London, and has a great selection of well kept ales.

Popped in for a drink with friends who knew this place and it's a bit like going into Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter books. Loads of character, great choice of real ales. The place was heaving when we got there but fortunatley after a few minutes we managed to get sat around a table and that was us set for a couple of hours. Will keep this place filed away fro future visits when up in London for sure

Always try to come here when in London, but it's not open on weekends. It's probably my favourite pub in London with lots of character and atmosphere even when it's empty. Maybe the best time in when they open at 11.00 o'clock to savour the place. Very basic but wonderful and the St Peters ales are pretty good too.

Beware, anyone who likes a beer! All seems great when you first go in, but they inexplicably stop serving pints at 10pm. Surely the only reason is so you have to buy expensive small bottles of Kronenbourg or even more expensive spirits and mixers? The bar men treated my custom with disdain all night, then one guy deemed it appropriate to make my Rum & Coke a double without asking (for a mere £9.50).From what should've been a great night, I left feeling a mix of being conned and unvalued. Probably best avoided.

Wandering around the Museum of London and Spitalfieds area the Good Beer Guide led me to this recreation of an 18th century pub. Wood plank floors, built in bench seating (unpadded) and a real wood fire. All the beer is from St. Peter's brewery and are wonderfully kept. For lunch I had a Brie and cranberry sandwich with salad and wedges. Very nice for £7.

This is an atmospheric, recreation of an elizabethan pub. It consists of a bare, stripped back, wooden interior. The range of beers is not particularly impressive and are supplied by the St Peter's brewery. A good pub for one or two beers but I wouldn't spend an evening here.

I needed a pub near Farringdon to bring a couple of friends. This place is cosy and serves decent beer much of it from small casks (St Peter's Brewery). I like the minimalist / faux old decor but one of my friends thought it a bit odd as it is not really like an old style pub. The clientele are an interesting bunch and be prepared to stand or share a table. This place is not ppen 7 days a week and does not appear to serve food.

St Peter's beers on tap and bottle. Tap is from the barrel and the beer is fresh and well kept. I tried a pint of best which was excellent and a pint of mild. The mild was up there with the finest. To my taste buds, only excelled by Daniel Bathams mild. The pub is small and charming with some bizarre art on the walls and you do need to shuffle round the benches when it's busy.Rather special and charming.

As you enter the Jerusalem Tavern you have an instant feeling of going back in time, the frontage is almost Dickension. The front area looks like a scene from Blackadder Goes Fourth, the beers are simply out of this world brewed in the Suffolk countryside with many different types of ale to choose from, why not try the unusual Grapefuit Ale of the red, or the Suffolk Gold or the.... get their early and be lucky to occupy the crews nest seat with a partner. Ideal for people watching from above. My first is it here was in October 1996 soon after it opened and still remains my favourite London pub.

This may be the only pub in London that Charles Dickens was NOT presumed to have visited, but he certainly could have. Dating from the early 18th century, the pub looks as if the tables, chairs, and even the dust are original. It serves hand-crafted beers from St Peter's brewery, a good range of lagers and ales. Alas, they no longer serve food (except for bags of potato crisps). Anyone looking for a real British pub (that is, without fruit machines, blaring rock music, and the dressed-to-impress set) will be well pleased with The Jerusalem.

This pub serves only beers from St. Peters brewery, and their beers are amazing. It's the third time I'm sitting here this week and can't wait to come back when I'm in London again. As a home brewer I'm very picky with what I drink and their beers are really to my liking. The place has an awesome aroma of a local pub. The service is excellent also. The place is small so if you come too late in the evening you'll find yourself standing outside with your beer in the street with about 30 more customers :) You just can't skip this place! It's a total MUST!

Well after wading our way through the hoard of drinkers on the street, as is typical for Holborn. This is a proper period pub, off the main drag and serving St peters beers. Grapefruit one a hit. Not a place for wine drinkers but house red was decent. Loved the fox above the mantel piece.

This is a pub with a real history and an atmosphere to match. Perfect traditional pub. Could be straight out of the 19th century with casks of beer behind the bar of St Peters Brewery ales from Suffolk with many varieties and décor to suit the historical nature of the place . The tavern itself has occupied several sites in the area since 1140 when it was linked with the Priory of St John and the Crusades. Great find and great beer. Worth seeking it out.
