Lovely family lunch for 6. The food and service was excellent. The only issue was that the pies we ordered were a little tepid but they were quickly exhanged for piping hot ones. Highly recommended for family friendly pub grub

Family run, friendly, a beautiful building and wonderful restaurant quality food at such a reasonable price. What more could you want......just wish it was our local!!We actually book a stay in our motorhome locally so we can indulge in a few (as many as we can fit in during our stay) meals at Jackson Stops. This is a family owned an run pub which is more than you would expect from any pub. The food is great everything we have had has been beautifully presented and thankfully tasted as good as it looks. The portions are well balanced and the prices are in my opinion very reasonable for the quality of food and service you are getting not to mention the wonderful surroundings of the historic country house. I am only slightly reluctant in leaving a review because we enjoy our visits so much and don't want to be disappointed by not being able to get a table! That said they truly deserve the praise. The locals are so lucky. We managed to book in for two delicious meals during our last stay and we will be back again soon.

Excellent menu, excellent food and wine, excellent service, excellent friendly staff ….. but!!We booked for dinner on a Saturday night expecting to be seated in a dining room surrounded by other diners! Unfortunately, we were shown to a table which was tucked in a corner with one other table in the rather chilly, drab thoroughfare between the bar and dining room! Not exactly what we had envisaged for our evening out! A great shame as this has now deterred us from booking again!

Staying in Rutland for a few days. Read up on a few of the local pubs and The Jackson Stops was our favourite to visit. Menu looked amazing and setting idyllic. Perfect. Called them the first night of our arrival to book a table for supper. Young lady on the phone seemed very confused as to whether they were fully booked or not. After much to’ing and fro’ ing, it was clear that they were fully booked. Ok not to worry… how about tomorrow night, I asked, oh no sorry fully booked too! Oh ok. To me, although disappointed, it’s a sign of a good pub. Ok, so we decided to try a lunch booking, surely that would work. Nope. Young lady on the phone again was very cagey about whether they were booked up or not! Same scene as the night before. So, we decided to just pop in one lunchtime. Early, just after 12. On arrival, every table outside had a reserved sign on it. A local man (I guess) said don’t worry, they are not reserved just sit. We grabbed a couple of tables and hoped for the best. We were served drinks then told because we were not a booking we couldn’t have a ‘main meal’ but could have the lighter options. Also, there could be a long wait as there were soooo many bookings! Where were these bookings? It didn’t make sense. Incidentally, we noticed just 3 tables used in all the time we were there. We left at 1.20pm. Considering most places stop food at 2/2.30pm, I’m struggling to understand what time all these bookings were coming in??? If indeed they were booked for a later slot, then why not capitalise and let us use that table for a couple of hours?? Having said that, we were looked after really well. The light bites we had were all excellent. Service brilliant. Nothing on their website explains this mysterious booking system they have. So, although we had a lovely light lunch, I was disappointed that we couldn’t enjoy the full dining experience there as they are constantly ‘fully booked’ We want to visit again before we go away but I’m guessing they are fully booked for the next year so we won’t bother.

We've eaten at most pubs in the area and Jackson Stops is head and shoulders above even the very, very good pubs in the area, in our experience. First and foremost, the food is incredible by any standard and to call it pub-grub would be a disservice (as much as pub-grub is great). Good portions but more importantly, the quality of the food is outstanding. Beyond this, the staff were absolutely excellent, supremely professional and pleasant - we felt completely at ease in regards to COVID19 restrictions and comfortable. It's dog friendly too. As touched on, for us, this pub is far superior to all we've experienced in the area, and I mention this twice in this review due to noticing similar overall review ratings for other nearby pubs which are nowhere near the quality or comfort of the Jackson Stops. Thank you for having us.

We visited the Jackson Stops today, it was our first visit out since the easing of lockdown. As I am asthmatic we have been quite nervous about venturing out - with the Jackson Stops we needn’t have been. As soon as you walk in there is a hand sanitising station and a screen up at the bar. There is the AA COVID Secure certificate that they have been awarded in clear view, and the staff were wearing both masks and visors which put us at ease. Tables were spaced far apart and plenty of space was allowed in walkways. The service during our stay was fantastic - staff stayed a safe distance from the table whilst still providing top tier service. The food was absolutely delicious - I had to find room for pudding but our complimentary bread, and our starter and main were so good I simply had to try a pud! I’m a vegan and had plenty of options to choose from, they also had vegan milk behind the bar so I could finish off with a latte and a cup of tea.Highly recommend the Jackson Stops for both service and food - they are also taking COVID extremely seriously and you can tell from their PPE and attitude when serving you that reassuring the customer and keeping everyone safe is a top priority. Thank you for a lovely meal and for making us feel so safe (:

We went here as a small club to hold our regular monthly meeting whilst enjoying a nice meal. It exceeded our expectations. The satnav got us there easily, and we parked right outside with no bother. We received an enthusiastic welcome into the bar, and were pleased to see a nice fire blazing away. There was a good range of drinks on offer, including beers I'd not seen elsewhere. The walls are decorated with 60s album covers - brought back memories! We had requested a separate dining area if possible, and we got that. (We'd no wish to intrude on other diners with our monthly debates!) We'd also asked to have drinks only for the first hour, to conduct our business, and then order, and this too went well. The menu was very good, with some favourites and other more interesting choices, both for starters and mains. The service throughout demonstrated considerable attention to detail, and would appeal to all who like their food served properly. We had plenty of water and bread supplied from the outset. This is a something you increasingly don't get without asking, so attention to detail again. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, which were all of very ample portions. Toilet facilities were excellent. I would recommend The Jackson Stops to anyone - couples, familes and groups alike.

My wife and I went for an early evening meal to celebrate a very special occasion , our 42nd wedding anniversary and the birth of our fourth grandchild but immediately we sensed service could be an issue . The entrance to the restaurant is through a public bar , with nobody to greet us we went through to a very small dining area with just three tables . Eventually the waitress / barmaid acknowledged us and we were offered drinks . The food was actually very good , but was spoilt by the poor service, the waitress insisting on serving later arrivals first in preference to my wife and I which rather spoiled what would otherwise have been a pleasant experience. We noted that guests on the other 2 tables had a selection of breads on arrival but this was not offered to us. My wife queried at the end of the meal if we should have ordered the bread - a half apology was given with " well it's a bit late now". We might have stayed longer if a coffee was offered in recompense but instead we left with a bad taste in our mouth not to return again !

This used to be our favourite eatery in the area to which we returned every year. This time, however, we were disappointed. We arrived early for our booking and our guests were waiting for us at the table. However, no one approached our table to offer us drinks for over 10 minutes, despite the restaurant being mostly empty. The waiting staff were chatting behind the bar, ignoring us. In the end, feeling somewhat embarrassed, given we had invited guests, I went to the bar to fetch someone. Matters didn't improve thereafter with long waits for everything, Despite my saying we were ready to order, they have a system where only one person takes your order so you wait your turn at their convenience. Very frustrating.

We took friends last night to the wonderful Jackson Stops and they loved it as much as we do. What’s not to like? Wonderful atmosphere, excellent staff and the most delicious food. The chef even made a dessert on request for our friend! Thank you again for a wonderful evening.

We enjoyed our visit to the Jackson Stops, well worth a very short diversion from the A1 to meet friends who use this pub regularly. Several Real Ales on tap for the beer connoisseur. A good and varied menu offering quality food, well prepared and served with courtesy and efficiency. A family run enterprise, we wish them continued success.

Staying in the village of Stretton 4 of us dined here. What an inspired choice. The Inn is a 400 years old Grade 2 listed building and is stunning both inside and out. We each chose a different mains from Roast Rump of Lamb, Kiln Roast Peterhead Salmon, 1050 Ale Battered Grimsby Cod & Vegetarian Special (Vegetables en croûte), followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding x 3 & Triple Chocolate Brownie. All delicious served piping hot. Very friendly attentive staff. Would definitely dined here again. Highly Recommended

Four of us went for dinner on a Saturday night and thoroughly enjoyed it. We started with the cheese soufflé which was perfect, followed by the curry, a chicken supreme, fish and chips and the lamb dish and all were well cooked and delicious, we didn’t have room for pudding but managed a nice cup of coffee. The staff were very good, attentive and amusing.

From the moment we entered Jackson Stops to the moment we left, our burdened spirits were alleviated, and we drifted for the next three hours in a sort of haze, chatting with the staff and some of the other patrons, drinking some good wine and eating some of the chef's good, wholesome, soul food, so full of passion that you could taste the love. Clare, the m'aitre d of sorts along with James and Richard, the other m'aitre d's, took good care of us, and together we shared enthusiasm for what was being served. A great place, great people, tucked away in a great little space. We're back for more. Matt and Heidi x.

With all the family together we wanted somewhere special for my birthday lunch. Jackson Stops Inn is always good and so it proved to be again. Very nice welcome and then with a glass of cooking beer and the girls having fizzy we were off and running. Good Parma ham and goat cheese starter followed by a pork belly and toad in the hole main course. All the mains were spot on. Puddings were slightly different to usual and very enjoyable. Service and ambience very good without crazy prices.

Ate here twice when staying in a nearby cottage. It is a quirky venue with outstanding food, good local beer and happy friendly staff. It has a tiny bar where you can play nurdling! They accomodated us and our little dogs with no fuss. Food is really special. We tried a range and I would describe it as traditionally based but with a modern twist. Lots of flavours working well together and good sized portions making it a good meal without overwhelming or being too nouvelle. We only had pud on one day but my word it was fantasic. Again a really god mix of flavours. The banana panna cotta was one of the best deserts I have ever had and I have had a lot.

We booked to eat at Jackson Stops Inn whilst visiting the area for our anniversary weekend away, after reading all the fantastic reviews on here. We're so glad we did! Not only was it super handy after taking a lovely walk around Hambleton Peninsula at Rutland Water, but they were also accommodating of us and the dog. Despite being really busy (as it was Mother's Day), the service was second to none, and the food... well. It was simply outstanding and definitely a celebratory meal, without a crazy price tag! Honestly we could not recommend this place enough, and we'll definitely be back when we're next in the area. Thank you so much!

Delightful tiny country pub, more restaurant. Appears to be family run with the personal commitment that it entails. A midweek lunch showed that the quality is known locally, however, it is just off the A1 Oakham turnoff, brilliantly positioned for a quiet discete lunch or celebration, in a "chocolate box" Rutland village. Parking is nearby in the village street and the frontage to the doors is on a gravel slope. The doors are to say the least quirky, but full of the charm of the place.

It has been a few years since we went to Jackson Stops but after our meal there recently, we will certainly be going back again in the near future. Everything was enjoyable. Despite us never being there while the currents owners have been running the restaurant, we were welcomed like regulars. The Grainstore beer for the men and unusual cider for our wives went down well while we made choices from an interesting and varied menu. The food was very good and the service friendly and efficient. Well done Jackson Stops – a great evening.

Got a surprise visit to the pub for valentines. The pub/restaurant had a set three course menu for the evening which still had quite a bit of choice. The food was amazing! Really lovely and the portions were not as small as we were anticipating. Perfect. The bar area with the fire is great and has some nice Motorsport and music memorabilia on the walls, it has a fantastic atmosphere. Only criticism, we had to ask for the menu for our sweets, it seems after our mains were cleared away we were a little forgotten or the staff thought someone else had taken care of it.
