Jack's Fish And Chips in Hillingdon

Perhaps you should send a free invite to your MP who believes Uxbridge doesn't have a Fish and Chip shop? You've been there many many years and yet he wants a competitor to come in and take away, no pun intended, your business.

Order took nearly an hour to deliver, when it arrived the food was tepid, but more importantly wasn't actually our order. The delivery driver was of no help whatsoever, the restaurant took 30 minutes to process this information and offered no solutions or options and informed us that if we wanted our money back we would have to pursue a refund through the ordering service we used (just eat).

In Hillingdon checking something out and went in with my wife . Wanted pie and chips. They did not have. Had battered sausage and chips. Very nice.

Had take away, fish & chips and mushy peas. Fresh, cooked well and balanced batter. Quite pricey, especially the mushy peas!

Just got my Uber eats delivery from Churchill’s and to start 1 fish and chips was missing and a sausage. Then when we opened the other fish and chips we had a piece of dry tiny bit of fish which is supposed to be regular but it was the size of a teaspoon, at a cost of £10.95 what a joke this place has become pls save your money and don’t use them. I will never order from them again. When it’s was jacks it was out if this world. They have run it down so much. Well good luck if you buy fish and chips from there as you will need to go out for another meal with the size of their portions

This restaurant used to be Jack's which was great and was intrigued to see if Churchill's could match it. I had a rather large order to takeaway, and waited 25 mins for the items to be cooked, it was rather busy so wasn't too aggrieved. The problems came after: we were overcharged for items which were on offer, the portions were a little small but worse- they missed a portion of pie and chips (criminal). The food did taste good , but won't be going again out of choice.

Visited this evening for the last time. Received the worlds smallest portion of chips (that were not so nice, soggy, some under cooked). A snip at £2.99 (NOT) Couldn't feed a small a mouse. Save your money, could have had a bag of potatoes and the oil to cook them in for half that. Buyers beware

Awful food, overpriced and tiny portions. Had kids working there that couldn’t care less. and took about 20 minutes to get the terrible meal ready. Clearly understaffed. £12.10 for tiny piece of cold thickly battered greasy fish and about 20 undercooked chips. Absolute disgrace and obvious that owners just interested in maximising profits and do not care about the shocking food they are serving. Used to go there regularly when it was Jacks but will never set foot in the place again.

They have closed down Ruislip branch ,it is time to close Uxbridge one now. Ordered cod and chips received tiny old pancake in thick butter mix and when complained only received sorry. Do not waste your money and time on these clowns-it is time to close this circus before they scum more people.

Click and collect order for a family of four. Very simple click and collect process, easy to use website. 2 regular cod, 1 medium cod, one sausage, 3 regular chips and 2 mushy peas. Friendly welcoming staff. Food ready within allocated time slot. All very fresh and piping hot. The batter was crispy, chips were well cooked… not greasy! Tasted great… just like being by the sea! Presentation was lovely. Packaging all paper/cardboard… very aesthetically pleasing. Cannot fault it. Reasonably priced, tasty food. Next time we’ll eat in!

Very basic decor. Not inviting or welcoming. Prices a bit high. Parking available. Female on the till was not particularly friendly. Maybe that is her manner but it doesn't encourage customers to be friendly, chatty or feel welcome. The chips were nice and were hot. Pie was warm. Seafood was ok and was hot. Tea was ok. Coffee was awful. Thank you to the smiling, friendly young man who brought our food. He even went the extra mile and found some brown sauce ( which is not normally available for some reason). He made us feel welcome and valued. Maybe he should run some customer service lessons? This is an ideal stop if you are visiting Brunel University but the hot drinks need to improve. If we go back, we will have canned drinks instead of the ok tea or awful coffee and won't have the pie and hopefully the till staff will be more welcoming.

Awful customer service from the staff there, do not recommended! Food was cold and late. Was refused a replacement or even a refund.

I was craving for some good Fish & Chips during a recent visit to my cousins in Slough. I have been to other Churchill's branches before but my experiences have been hit and miss. I have to say the Churchill's in Uxbridge was a way better experience than I expected. Its located a bit away from High Street. I visited for a late lunch. Its a simple straight to business Fish & Chips place. The staff won't visit or ask you about the food quality but they aren't rude as well, somewhat mechanical I would say. I ordered Plaice and Chips with drinks. It was fresh, glistening and tasty. Everything I expect from a good dish of Fish was there, although the chips were strictly average. The pricing is good and the place is clean. I was reasonably charged 12.85 for Fish & Chips, Pepsi and Still Water. If you are touring around Uxbridge, its worth a try.

I arrived with my family for lunch at the weekend, when we arrived it was quiet after we ordered to eat in there was a big take away rush. our main food arrived about 20 minutes after we ordered, 5 minutes after that we were still waiting for our side dishes and drinks, the mushy peas and curry sauce arrived and we reminded the man we were still waiting for our drinks, 3 of our drinks came and then we had to go up to the counter to ask for the other 2 drinks. really bad service, needs more staff and staff training in good customer service and communication, we should have received our drinks when we ordered, the only positive was that the food was really hot however the chips were really crunch and the food overall over priced. this place used to be so much better when it was jacks

Really quick service when we walked in and good portions too. The fish was nicely cooked and served in a quality package. Excellent value for money.

The medium fish was so small they covered it in chips presumably to hide its embarrassment. The chips were cold and there wasn't a crispy one in the whole box. Seems to be a trend here reading the other reviews. Also, would love to see what a small cod looks like. Surely cant be much bigger than a goldfish going by the size of the medium one

Fish was really tasty. Batter just right . You usually have to go all the way to the seaside to get fish and chips this good. Splendid.

Two weeks ago, we ordered two large fish and chips. When we unwrapped them they were pale,soggy and underdone. We had to put them in the oven to cook them properly.Have just been again, explained what happened, and requested well cooked chips.Same thing again- will not be giving it a third chance.It’s a shame as we like to support local businesses.

Ordered a plant based burger after double checking it was vegan (this is after me having to ask them to hold the mayo, as they did not realise that this is not vegan in the first place), only to then receive the burger, which has a brioche bun!? Brioche is made with flour, EGGS AND BUTTER! The staff had no idea this was the case, so I had wasted a trip for this order. Surely if you are going to offer a plant based burger, you should actually make sure it is fully plant based? This plant based offering is just a total waste of time. Also, the staff need training on what is and is not vegan.

I went yesterday with my friends and the portion of chips that came with the mains were tiny! Was very hungry after. For the price I felt ripped off. Will not be visiting again.

Since changing from JACKS fish shop the portions have shrunk, the quality has decreased but the prices have increased. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Churchill's have just opened a new branch in Ruislip high street & thought I would give it a try I was disappointed with fish on the menu they only had Cod or Haddock no Roock or Place.

We do not visit often but decided to visit for lunch today and were so disappointed. No coffee beans so we had to have instant coffee but they still charged the same price. No sweetners for the coffee and one of our group is diabeticso does not use sugar. We asked for brown sauce and they do not have any as they say it does not financially warrant buying it in. The fish was luke warm and looked like it had been reheated. The chips were not very good either. They were warmer than the fish but not by much. All in all, a bad experience and we will not be returning in the future. Such a change from our visits last year when there were no problems with coffee, sauce, fish or chips. Back then we had several really nice meals.

I was dubious about returning as my previous experience was less than satisfactory. However, having a coeliac friend, we decided to give it a try.What a change! The food was great and the staff were friendly and helpful.The fact that it fires gluten free food on a Monday and Tuesday is absolutely brilliant. My friend was so thrilled to eat her first fish and chips since she was diagnosed. Hopefully they might think of extending that option to other days in the week.

The shop/Resturant could be cleaner the service wasn’t great I did ask for curry sauce when it was given to me it was all dripping down the bowl I asked if she could wipe it and she wasn’t happy about that. The ketchup bottles were under half full and the tartar sauce was very watery I personally wouldn’t come here again. The fish was good the chips were ok the bread rolls were fresh.

After reading all the negative reviews I was reluctant to eat here, so I though I’d come down and try it out for myself. I went on a Friday night and it was very busy, I had large cod and chips to eat in, the staff were very friendly, food was a good size portion for the money I paid, I didn’t find the food greasy or strange tasting, I would definitely eat here again, and I found it good value for money. It is slightly different to when it was jacks fish and chips, but the shop was very clean and looked like it was well run.

Visited Churchills today for fish & chips and a Latte. Very disappointed with the quality of the food. Fish although quite tasty was disappointed with the soggy batter. The chips were limp too. I was served a lukewarm cup of milk and coffee instead of the latte I had ordered. Replaced with a large cup of coffee and a small portion of milk which was undrinkable. The decor was quite presentable though. I had been a regular at Jacks for over 12 years and never had cause to complain. Overpriced for what it is. Wont be going back there again.

Always looked forward to eating here when it was Jack's. Very disappointed since it changed hands. The prices have rocketted but the quality of the food has taken a nose dive. The fish was fine; the batter was too thick and the chips were soggy and undercooked - never again.

Well, it all depends on who is working there as different staff members treat you differently. I've eaten there 5 times during the last 3 months and it varied. You don't get the same portion size each time - it depends on who is serving. The good thing is that you get free ketchup and sauces and the male staff are smiley and make you feel welcome. However, the female staff seem all grumpy and unhappy to be there. The staff keep changing very often so new people get hired every week and others go away. It's a clean place. The pickles are yummy. The chips are super oily. Mushy peas are great but their portions vary too much every time. Finally, they often charged me a take away price for eating in and that's why I've been returning. Their cod is of course good!

I really like coming to Churchill’s. Especially as I can’t eat gluten and Monday and Tuesday they offer gluten free options. Portion sizes are good and staff are nice. I do think that fish can be a bit expensive but you also pay for the service. It’s nice to be able to click and collect at a time that suits you. Not many fish and chip shops locally offer the option of ordering online. There is something here for all the family and there is always parking so it’s easy to grab and go.

As Louise f says further down the page, the quality and consistency of Jacks was spot on week in week out.But the new owners have changed the batter, now it isn't crispy and is more chewy with a weird taste.Would love to know what has changed in the batter.The chips are now more often cold than hot.Plus it comes in boxes now which is just not needed, its harder to put in the bin and is just bulky.There was nothing wrong with the paper bags before.I've been going every week for many years but now the fish is no match for the beer battered haddock ones from Waitrose for half the price.Think that was my last visit.I can see them losing customers over time.

Ordered some food online and received a little pot of curry sauce along with my order which I thought was quite cute as a little treat. Went down a storm with my friends and I. Lovely food and very welcoming. All the best Amy and co!

Noticed this restaurant catered for a Gluten Free menu (Monday and Tuesday). Just had my first take away from Churchill’s and can honestly say it was one of the best fish and chips I have had in a while! Nice and fresh and just the right amount. Super friendly service. Like how they have a ‘gluten free’ station so there is no cross contamination! Well done.... will definitely be back again.

I ordered online as with 6 of us it was easier than trying to remember an order. The Easter25 25% discount wasn't accepted. At the shop, they hadn't seen the comment asking for skinless cod, the order wasn't ready when we turned up. They forgot the scampi, only remembering when we checked the order, so we had to wait another 5 minutes to cook it. When we arrived home the cod wasn't skinless, the batter was soggy and the fish quality wasn't great. For the price I would expect a higher standard. Definitely style over substance, its a shame the posh boxes can't be used for anything else!!! Very disappointed, we won't be going back.

Been 3 times now only take home but always fresh cooked and very polite service not a long wait clean and tidy if you where to have meal in restaurant so all in all tip top

Had a good takeaway experience, easy to order and not too badly priced for London. Plaice was a little oily but very crunchy so not a problem for me. Enjoyed the onion rings too. Had to wait about 10 mins for my food to be cooked as there was a large order in before mine.

First time I’ve been since it has changed from jack to Churchill’s, same layout and same menu apart from a few small additions. Staff we’re very friendly and welcoming, it was fairly quiet as it was late in a Saturday evening, past normal dinner time, served straight away, food was cooked to order so was fresh and hot, I had nuggets and chips as the nuggets are 100% chicken breast unlike most takeaway places which are processed rubbish, my partner had squid and chips, golden brown and was soft and tender didn’t have the stringy chewy taste that if squid isn’t cooked properly has. The toilets were generally clean well as clean toilets get. I believe the toilets say a lot about a restaurant as it shows High standards for keeping the customer areas clean. The staff work really hard to keep the restaurant area tidy as when customers leave they will be straight over to tidy up and clean up any debris left from the floor. Overall had a good experience here and will be back

Been going jacks for last 7 years. Recently visited after refit to find it is now Churchill’s. Prices have risen drastically and new small plates mean smaller portions. Even changed their legendary curry sauce. Drink prices also drastically increased. End of an era.

I ordered fish and chips along with mushy peas. They didn't have large cod but the normal size cod is quite good size. They don't have battered chips. Their fish tastes good but it's a bit pricey.

A long -established restaurant/take-away serving consistently good and reasonably priced food. We have been using it regularly for over a decade. It has a small car park too.

It appears Jacks is no more. Its now branded as Churchills. We had haddock and chips on Xmas eve as a takeaway and it was disappointing. Soggy batter and equally soggy chips.I dont think the cooking oil was hot enough. I went in there at the height of the lunch time service and they were making up boxes to put the takeways in. It says it all really. The food is over packaged - no need for cardboard boxes,. In future we will try another fish and chip shop.

Had been recommended by a friend so took my mum and dad who were visiting for the weekend. The food was freshly cooked and the service pleasant. Will definitely be going back again!

Don't bother turning up within 30 mins of closing. They'll only sell you what they've got left 'because the pans are off'. Happened on both of my last 2 visits.

Have had a takeaway from Jack’s many times. Usually nice but tonight the chips were inedible. Think they had been cooked in old, reheated oil. Very disappointing.

Whenever we fancy a chippy (a bit to often lol) we always come here, the food is always lovely and never ever disappointed by it. Staff are nice and service is usually quick too.

Long opening hours. Food is usually very good but does have the occasional hiccup. Slightly pricey but it is also a cafe so that probably explains it. Staff are usually helpful. Tea and coffee could do with an upgrade. Reasonable size meals.

Been going to this chippy for years. Always tasty and everything is cooked to order, everything is always hot and have never had a wrong order from here. They have a range of products and fish is always fresh and crispy with a light layer of batter. The chicken nuggets are amazing real chicken breast meat ( unlike most). Moving out of the area shortly and I am really gunna miss having this chip shop just down the road.

Had eaten here before and been very satisfied. The restaurant has ample parking and seating both in and outdoors.

Waited a long time for a small order (no meat) just chips and they had 4 staff on. More worried about delivery orders than those in front of them. Then they forget the curry sauce and do not answer there phone when informing them. Chips were cold and staff look like they do not want to be there. Won’t be returning. Lucky they are the only local open on a Sunday

Been going there for years and introduce many people to the place. You don't really go there for the service, which is decent enough tbh, you go there for the fresh fish and well cooked chips! Also - you have to try the Curry Sauce - PERFECT for dipping the chips in!

What a shame dry fish,soggy chips and quite expensive. £19.60 for 2 cod and chips, tea and diet coke. No atmosphere, only person with a smile on her face was lady taking the money,and it was cash only? We have been often and was ok up to about 6 months ago. Will not be going back.

Having recently moved to the Uxbridge area and not having prior knowledge of it I was extremely happy to find such a good fish and chip shop/restaurant so close to my address.

Used to use Jacks until we received awful customer service. Gutted but found a better chip shop closer to home so won’t be back.

Such a shame that Jacks food is terrible. Been going there on and off for years in the hope that the food will improve as its local to my home. The quality of the actual food is fine but I just dont know why they cook it in old stale oil making it smell and taste stale. They closed the restaurant for a few days a few years ago and when they reopened the chips tasted fine. So im guessing they must have had some kind of council inspection forcing them to clean up their act and OIL for that matter. But that only lasted a couple of months and then they went back to using old stinky oil again. Have complained a few times but they don't care. Now finally ive decided to stop eating there.

We visited here last night (31-3-18) as my partner had been wanting to try this place for a while as it had a “restaurant”, I would love to say the wait was worth it...sadly not. Customer service was non existent, when we arrived there was no friendly welcome not even a smile. We ordered our food which was a bit more expensive to eat in but we was told we had to listen for our ticket number to be called out for our food; this appeared to be nothing more than a glorified McD’s. We found a table and sat down, the chairs are a small metal chair which were uncomfortable and the backs of them dug into the sides of your back. A we waited for our food s couple of tables left, it took the staff over 10min to remove the plates from them even though the place had no their customers...not one table was ever washed down. Our food arrived, the chips were part cold and the fish very greasy which left a film over the inside of your mouth, even adding seanoning didn’t improve the taste. Another set of customers arrived bed and bought a takeaway and sat at a table to eat it, why charge more to eat in when you can get the cheaper takeaway option and eat it in? We had to ask for sauces as none were offered. The mushy peas were Hester’s in the microwave as the pot they cane in was too hot to touch and the peas had a skin over them. The staff had no hair nets and the girls kept flicking their hair around. One girl appeared to be falling asleep at the till. All the staff appeared young and took enjoyment of standing by the dryers having a laugh and eating the chips from the warming area. No one came over to ask if everything was ok with the food which you expect in a restaurant. When we left we was ignored by the staff.

Called in MARCH 29TH for lunch.Looking forwardto new setup after many years visiting old shop near TESCO.Our fish was tasteless,service non existent.In the window as we leftwife saw oap's £5.40,our bill came to £14.80.|wont'be calling again.Young staff no idea how to talk with customers.

To be a honest very good fish - Fresh, light and crispy. But, the unfriendly staff attitude spoiled the whole meal experience. I am not English - waited on till for few minutes, few young boys were inside the counter and it took a little while to have their attention despite I was only the customer waiting to be served. No Hello....No greetings. Its a lovely English fish cafe/restaurant and I would expect more customer friendly.

This is the way Fish & Chips are meant to be eaten. It’s fresh fish in a light & very crispy batter with a decent size portion of chips & perfect mushy pea’s.

I’m so happy that a restaurant like this exists in Uxbridge, it’s so unique in that you almost feel like your at the seaside when you enter the place! Nice interiors and good quality fish and chips! If you like a good chippy and you need parking and would like to sit down and enjoy your meal rather then take away then this place is ideal!
