Jack's Bar in Derry

Fantastic! After a long walk around Derry, we found this bar and so glad we did. Excellent food, service and a great atmosphere - full of customers, lots of Xmas decorations and Christmas songs one- after another. We ate a 2 course Christmas dinner ( main and dessert) which was superb and great value. Add a pint of Guinness and Orchard Cider and our night was complete! Great food, service & dining experience!

We found this gem of a bar accidentally ,passing it by on our way to our accommodation which was round the corner and I’m so Glad we decided to go in ,The staff were so friendly and welcoming ,showed us to a table which was spotlessly clean ,and we all decided on what we were eating ,I decided on the homemade soup which was absolutely delicious followed by the huge Beef Sunday Roast and honestly it’s was superb a massive portion so well cooked I wouldn’t hesitate going back here for food ,In the evening we returned and what a great night we had the local people were absolutely fantastic ,super friendly and we were entertained by Mr John Breslin ,if I ever go back to Derry jacks bar will deffo be on my list to visit again .Thank you so very mush to the brilliant staff and customers for making us so wellcome and cheers to John for his superb Karaoke

On a cold, rainy day in Derry, we ducked in to Jack’s and were delighted to discover a beautiful interior, a blazing fire, and a welcoming greeting from our server, Toni. We each had a glass of hot Jameson’s and a bowl of freshly made soup (which was absolutely divine). Michael, the owner, entertained a group of local regulars at the bar, but because of the foul weather, we were the only diners and thoroughly enjoyed meeting and chatting with Toni. Between the soup, the fire, and the kindness, we were rejuvenated and ready to tackle the hills of Derry once again!

Fantastic Sunday lunch. Don't leave too late as popular locally. Plenty of options alongside traditional Sunday lunch. We had both and cannotvfsukhtvquakuty, service and value for money. So warm and cosy on a cold day too.

The fish and chips, salad and Smithwicks were all good but the recommended tobacco onions, “a Derry thing” were outstanding! The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and very welcoming. I heard there was live in the evenings but didn’t go back after walking the walls.

Came here for drinks with friends two of us ordered food one was served very quick I ordered a plate of chips I was waiting for almost an hour asked several staff members where was my order they weren't very helpful. The chips arrived and the girl just said there was a mix up in the kitchen and then walked off I didn't have a chance to complain. With no condiments served. Had to go and ask for them also. Not great service.

Went to this bar last night with my two daughters for food and a few bevies. The reception we got when we entered was lovely. We were brought to our table (after booking online) and were dealt with in a fantastic and quick manner. The food was first class and the bar tenders were just brilliant. A friend was celebrating a significant birthday and family organised the celebration at Jack's Bar. As some of the party goers had mobility problems this was the perfect venue with access directly off the street. What a great night with beautiful food served by great staff - nothing too much bother.Nibbles and hot/cold food. Lots of singers in the group so plenty of music added to the great atmosphere which the staff pride themselves in. This bar does good lunches/bar food each day so you're never short of something to eat.

Brilliant little pub, great atmosphere, great value for money. Excellent food. Great location definitely recommend a visit. 👍👌

Was here on new year's eve had a great night staff were excellent nothing was to much to much trouble returned new years day had lunch food was fantastic cant wait to go back differently recommend it

Found this place by mistake but was very nice and pleasant locals friendly to , live yo visit on a weekend bet it’s a right craic in here

Gen of a pub. Reasonably priced and good selection of beers and wines. We had a good meal and would recommend.

Me and my partner was staying in Derry for 2 nights called into here on Thursday night for few drinks and the guy conor they had singing was very good played a few songs for us the staff where friendly on the Friday we went back for lunch the food is lovely and very cheap we will deffintly be back when we are down again

Amazing! Quality service by genuine lovely folks. A good ol country pub to call your home away from home. 10/10 recommend. (From good Ol Aussies).

super quality service and very reasonable for the size of themeals - gammon / champ - massive burger with trimmings finally - wraps with chilli steak eniugh for two - as its served up with great chunky chips

Con un grupo de mis colegas, estuve visitando el bar de Jack durante dos semanas en julio de 2017, así tuvimos la oportunidad de probar muchos platos de su menú. No recomendaría platos de carne, pero realmente me encantó cualquier pescado servido allí. Deliciosos pasteles de manzana. Ambiente hogareño Gran música en vivo los fines de semana.

Llamado al bar para almorzar la semana pasada, estaba en unos 10 minutos antes de que el lugar de mi compañero no estuviese demasiado ocupado, así que me senté en una mesa esperé que alguien tomara mi pedido, pero la camarera estaba sumida en una conversación con otra pareja que entró en la cocina salió y se sentó de nuevo mi compañero vino y dijo vamos vamos y terminamos yendo a otro lugar y él fue empujado por el tiempo por lo tanto, mi llegada anticipada no estoy segura de si volveremos

Tolta la lentezza del servizio, anche questa tipica, si è rivelato un pub dove il cibo è in linea con altri locali simili, quindi accettabile. Personale gentile e prezzi contenuti. Atmosfera caratteristica.

We had a drink there while there was live music. It was nice and service was good, but nothing more than that.

A nice spot with good food and service with a smile. had a very nice meal and a pint or two. The staff made us travelers feel welcome.

Cosy bar. great staff. Great music & nice atmosphere. Pub grub served daily. In town centre so a lot of other attractions are close to you.

Slow service, only one waitress on. The special was chicken but more like an old shoe. Disappointed!!

This was our first stop of the day. They have big screen tvs and show all the sports. Its right across from the escape rooms so its a good place to go after you have escaped.

I have visited Jacks bad on many occasion and have never been disappointed, staff really friendly, costomers friendly and barfood is good, music also very good, this bar is for over 25s . If your visiting call in.

Next to our rented accommodation in heart of city. We were welcomed the minute we arrived. The waitress that served us both days was so friendly and nice and nothing was too much trouble.the atmosphere was warm and inviting with comfy seating and all the staff were so nice. The manager Michael went the extra mile for us on the Sunday when we were leaving. We were all so tired and as we had to be out of our apartments early he welcomed us in to wait on our train and we had early brunch and a welcome pot of tea and whatever we required even if not on the menu he tried his best to accommodate us. As I was the mum of all the company celebrating my daughter's birthday he drove me to the station s it was so cold and gave her a bottle of champagne from all the staff. Will definitely return and thank you.it made the holiday

Stopped in 2 or 3 times while here as it was next to our apartment, never ate but the staff was friendly and reasonable priced drinks

Oh what can we say about this place. Was over for weekend and passed this bar on way out ended up here for 2 nights and lunch on the sunday before going home.staff very friendly loacal very welcoming entertainment both nights was very good oh poor gary on the friday was put to the test but the boy done good the door men also a credit to this bar. Just came across this bar for lunch, while hungry & in the area. Although the service was good, the meal I had as a second choice was awful. I originally ordered a Baked Potato with Chilli but it was no longer available during lunchtime, I then opted for a Chicken Curry filling instead & wish I hadn't. It was awful. The Chicken pieces tasted as if the Chicken had been boiled instead of roasted, the Curry Sauce was like curry powder mixed with water & thickened & had no real flavour.

Called in here unplanned on a busy Saturday night. From the first step inside the door we were warmly welcomed by both staff and customers. Pleasant staff, happy customers, clean toilets and spacious beer garden/smoking area (we were just too late for the barbecue) all added up to a great few hours.

It was recommended by a few fellows on another pub up the road and wow. We came around 4pm and happily served us a very tasty meal. Staff is very efficient.Price is also good, cheaper than expected.Highly recommended if you feel like a good pub meal.

Your host Mehawl runs a lovely bar with great food served until 16.00hrs on wk days and later at wkend 's. Staff are very welcoming and the property has a great beer garden the (subject to availability) catches the sun all day.A must for any Derry visit.

Visited here a few days ago for lunch, first visit and sadly will be the last!The decor is nice inside and there is a good atmosphere, the staff are also very attentive but the food is bland and tasteless.I had a stir fry which literally tasted of nothing. I don't think any seasoning was used whatsoever. Also had garlic potatoes, again, not a hint of flavour!! May aswell have been chips.Partner had the enchiladas, unfortunately same complaint, tasteless and bland. How a stir-fry can be tasteless is beyond me but they achieved it at Jacks.Disappointed as had heard lots of good things about the food, but there are far nicer places in Derry and for a more reasonable price too.

Overall, we were quite happy. The main dishes were pretty tasty. We had lamb (slightly tough but yummy) and duck (slightly over cooked, nice sauce), hake (amazing!), and a variety of desserts. The meringue was amazing as was the lemon/raspberry sorbet. The poached pieces of rhubarb should have been chopped into smaller pieces rather than long slices, and the crime brûlée definitely needed some more brûlée-ing. Despite these issues, it got four stars instead of three because it's better than all the food we've had outside of Dublin. If you find yourself in the Ballyliffin/Clonmany area, this is a great choice for a restaurant.

Some friends and I had had a bite to eat one evening and went into this hostelry for a beer. There was a guy making a ferocious racket with a computer, amplifier and speakers. On asking one of the staff to have the sound level reduced it was as if I had insulted someone. Would not return.

Nice place- quite quiet, good efficient bar staff. Went in early for lunch (I think they serve from midday to 4pm and I was there at quarter past twelve). Had a look at the menu and the waitress asked if i was ok: I asked if they did they any vegetarian food (there was none on the menu). She couldn't have been more helpful: she said. 'What type of thing do you like?', went and asked the chef and came back with a few different options: I asked for 'a sort of creamy mushroom pasta thing', and the word from the kitchen was that it was no bother. It was tremendous, and served with garlic potatoes, all for less than £7, I think. Recommended!

It's lovely inside, great characters and food good. Solid, welcoming pub with a very friendly atmosphere.

Great wee bar to have a drink or something to eat, music good at night and you can get up and have a dance or 2

Went into jacks bar for lunch on Friday best pub grub I had in a long time will be checking the Sunday lunch menu today jacks also has a great seletion of beers look out for the blue moon American beer good stuff

We came here after our Bloody Sunday tour, on the way to our B&B. The bartender and the locals were very friendly, all seemed to be interested in the sports on the TV. I think it was horseracing.

Nice place good food. Great to be with family and friends left full drunk. So had the best time. Will be back as soon as.

Came down from Coleraine to have a pint in Derry ...felt very unwelcome the bar man was very unpleasant. .and the clientele where very dodgey indeed...i finished my pint and left very quickly ...plenty of nice pubs in Derry but leave out this one

I would say this is better as a bar than a place for food. I had the chicken goujons with a side salad. The salad had way too much onion in it and not enough variety of other salad vegetables. A bit of carrot, beetroot or sweetcorn would have been good. The chicken didn't taste as good here as other places I've had the same meal in recently in Derry.I finished my chicken and realised that it had been a bit dry. They had forgotten to include my dips when I got my order. The lady serving did apologise.The bar looks nice, but I would probably go somewhere else for food instead.

We called here for Sunday lunch and intended having main course and dessert , after ordering our dishes which were a delicious chicken with creamy sauce , a melt in the mouth roast beef and amazing slab of salmon and lovely separate side dishes of veg , we ate so much that we couldn't fit dessert we also had a kiddies meal and a jug of diluting juice for less than £25 ;-) we all agreed that each dish was lovely and service wS prompt and friendly . Definitely be back :-)

I am a regular in jacks bar and i have always experienced nothing more than a very friendly atmosphere. Staff are always very polite and courteous and i have had the pleasure of meeting the owner who can not do enough each time i visit to make my time there as enjoyable as possible. Big plus it is strictly over 25s which is needed in derry would highly recommend a sat night. If you visit derry dont leave without visiting this bar great food great craic.

Did you ever hear the likes of it?? If your on your own, no photos, but if your part of a party, that's OK. Where's the logic in that? Was he having me on? Was there hidden cameras in the bar, watching the expression on my face? No. Here's what happened. After asking a local while in Derry last Saturday, to recommend a bar, I went up to Jack's. It's a fine looking bar from the outside, and can be found behind Strand Road, on Little James Street. In I go, and sit at the bar, and get chatting to another traveller, who never visited before either. The first thing I notice, is a sign behind the bar, saying that there's a loyalty scheme for locals. This is the first time I've ever seen this, so I ask the barman [we'll call him Jack, as I got the impression he was the owner] how does the scheme work? He didn't look very happy, like he was far too intelligent to be serving beer, and just replied that "locals get 40 pence off the price of a pint". So I ask him "how does one become a local"? "You drink here regularly" came the curt reply. Does he mean everyday, 5 times a week, or just once a week? Is there a certain amount of beer you have to consume to qualify? However, I give up, as this guy is not the most helpful I've ever come across. A customer service course would not be lost on him. Now I would have left at this stage, as I did not feel welcome in this bar, but I was enjoying chatting to the gentleman I met at the bar, so I stayed, and took out my camera. The bar was quiet busy, as there seemed to be a Christmas party going on. You should have seen the face on "Jack" when he seen the camera. You'd think I pulled out a Glock! So I took a few snaps, sure you'd have to for Tripadvisor!!! "Why do you take photos"? The PSNI would not ask me this. I felt like telling him to mind his own bees wax, but replied "what's wrong with taking photos" "Some people don't like having their photo taken", says the bold Jack. This is true, but I wasn't taking pictures of the punters, I wanted to capture inside the bar, to show people what it looked like. "The lads over there are taking photos, but yet you don't say anything to them" says I, to which he responds "you can only take photos if your having a party" No messing!I ask him why he hasn't got a sign up to that effect, to which he just walks away. At this stage, even if he offered me free drink, I would not have stayed. So I finished my drink, say my goodbyes to my companion at the bar, and left, making a mental note never to return while "Jack" is behind the bar. It's a fine looking bar with a nice crowd, but when you don't feel welcome, your not going to spend hard earned money there. I went around the corner to the "Grand Central", had a couple of drinks, took several snaps, and nobody questioned me, and I enjoyed my time there, before I hit the road.
