There's no denying, the food is delicious. The highlights being the cheese soufflé and Fruits de Mer. The service however is a bit Faulty Towers. Order missed, food served to the wrong diner, a wine bottle knocked to the floor and spilt and a server swigging water from a bottle in full view in the restaurant. But the food is delicious 😋 Thanks for your reply. I have called you back as requested and the lady I spoke to took all my details and said that a Manager would be calling me back. It’s been nearly a week since then and no one has called. I’m not looking to make another booking but as it was your suggestion I was expecting you to follow up.

I'd avoid this spot. Definitely super tourist-y with lots of large groups and bad service. We were sat by the bar section even though we'd made a reservation and never really had a server...we were just flaging down whoever we could to put orders in. Ended up leaving after a drink and our appetizers.

Beware of this restaurant! They are extra sneaky and a tourist trap.We went in because they were advertising 6oysters with a glass of champagne for £38 but when we got the bill, there was a “cover charge” for £6 charge for linen service and an extra 13.5% service charge and VAT. For 2 glasses of wine each, 2 oysters each and couple of tiny pieces of tuna, it’s definitely not worth it. What a joke! £153 for this is just stupid.

Yesterday was our first visit to J Sheekey, but certainly won't be our last. I've walked past this place from when I was a teenager, over 40 years ago, and always thought it looked fabulous. I wasn't wrong. Firstly the service was impeccable, I have eaten in some wonderful places over the years with all sorts of stars and rosettes, but I have never had such a high standard of service, coupled with such a friendly attitude. Normally I find you get one or the other, but at J Sheekey you get both. The photos will probably describe the food with far more clarity than I can, but suffice it to say every course was tasty and cooked to perfection. We will be back, as regularly as our wallets allow, I only wish I'd decided to visit 40 odd years earlier.

It was a nice place to meet friends but overpriced for quality of the food. As others have mentioned £2 cover charge per person and then a 13.5% service charge to the total bill added over £30 to the bill. It is a shame that the establishment feels it needs to add in such charges rather than simply offering good food at fair prices to earn their living. The charges are on the menu in very small print but you do leave feeling you have been involuntarily shaken down rather than the establishment having confidence in its food and service to trust you to reward them for earned appreciation. Sorry, would not hurry back or recommend to friends.

Whooooasaaaa!!!! From time to time you get one of these perfect dining experience that you were looking for since ever…Well, don’t look further J Sheekey is one of them. First things first, the food was AMAZING from starters to dessert. Some of the best Brasserie fish/seafood dishes I experienced ever. Forget about Paris, Amsterdam or Berlin, London is the place. Then, despite a very very very busy saturday night, service was outstanding. Friendy but efficient, caring and flawless, everything is and stays under control. The only downside to mention if there is one, ciuld be the bill that reminds you that nothing is free and quality has its price. But overall it is a « detail » considering the awsome experience provided.

Food was OK. We were in a nice corner booth, but for some reason, the noise level was very loud . It was a combination of the hard surfaces and the people in the room who were all trying to talk loudly to be heard so the noise level became unpleasant. The other room’s didn’t seem to be as loud. Not gracious hospitality. The server always seemed to be looking away and wasn’t really paying close attention. It was like he needed to dash off to someplace else. The Apple torte dessert was the best part of the meal. It was very good. The miso salmon was good. The side salad was drenched in dressing and had mostly the core sections of the lettuce. We have dined there before, but we won’t return. We had better meals elsewhere.

A lunchtime pre-theatre visit found the kitchen in its usual efficient place turning out nicely judged fish cooking with aplomb. However, service out front was cavalier and off-hand, which left a dissatisfied taste. Whatever happened to quiet attentive understated service, for which J. Sheekey used to be a watchword?

We visited J Sheeky for the first time last night for my Birthday. I did have high expectations but have to say they were exceeded! Straight away the service and attitude of the staff was so friendly and welcoming, they made us feel so comfortable. We were lucky to be given a nice corner seat giving us a nice view of all going on in the restaurant. There was a nice choice of wine, as we were eating seafood it seemed only right to have a white, whilst some wines were expensive, we opted for the Picpoul which was very nice with the seafood and reasonably priced! We had the seafood platter and a couple of side dishes, this was all very fresh and tasty! To finish we had cheese and Port, the cheese was room temperature and so the flavour of the cheese was nice and full! Strangely I think I should add that even going to the loo was nice! Smelt nice, very clean and hand soap smelt nice, maybe weird thing to comment on but all adds to the experience! This restaurant is obviously about seafood and so you should only expect this as the main choice although I spotted meat choices on the menu. I look forward to returning and hope others enjoy this as much as I did!

I've enjoyed quite a few excellent meals in my life. Probably not enough but more than a few. Having just enjoyed an excellent lunch at J Sheekey I now have a new entrant in the top ten. Maybe not number one but really all of my dining experiences at this level were fantastic. For starters the atmosphere at J Sheekey has that nice balance of being a bit special but also welcoming and friendly. The staff played a huge part in this and without exception they were all helpful, accommodating and on hand at all times. It took quite a while to pick our dishes, because the whole menu is uniformly attractive, but it was worth the wait. My starter scallops were large, juicy and perfectly cooked. Then came the Cornish fish stew which featured generous cuts of fish and just the right quantity of shellfish. Finally I went for the apple pie, because I'm an optimist, and the result was most excellent. Now lunchtime drinking is always hazardous but we went for the recommended Chablis and it was a fine choice. Robust and rich it paired nicely with all of our dishes. Really that's a good description for our whole dining experience and rarely have 2.5 hours passed so pleasingly.

2024 Felt the need to update this old review as I had yet another fantastic experience here. Had a wonderful weeknight dinner with friends. We had multiple serious allergies at our table and were impressed that the restaurant took them seriously. The manager came to take our order personally and she knew the entire menu inside out and was able to advise on suitable dishes. The seafood was exceeding fresh and expertly prepared and we all enjoyed every bite. The portions were very generous and good value for money. Service was excellent and quick even though it was very busy with pre-theatre diners. 2020 Fresh and skilfully prepared seafood. Was taken here for a Sunday brunch on my birthday. I've been looking forward to trying this seafood institution and although it was a nice visit in terms of atmosphere and service, the food wasn't the best. I was disappointed with the seafood platter, it looked beautiful but just wasn't as delicious as I'd hoped. The prawns were overly salty and not de- veined and the oysters hadn't been prepped properly. The crab was delicious though. The staff were absolutely lovely and we had a great seat in the corner where we could watch the room. Not sure we'll be back but glad I tried it once.

Our evening here didn’t start well. After been greeted by a friendly lady at the desk, we were passed over to a man who didn’t speak to us at all, and seemed to communicate by pointing with a frown! We were pointed to wait behind people who were eating at the bar. So we stood there for 10 minutes or so, squeezed behind their seats. We weren’t offered a drink, and were given no explanation as to what was happening. We just had to stand there about 6 inches behind the diners. It was odd and uncomfortable. Anyway, it all changed when we were taken to our table. Our waiter was a lovely chap, very attentive and very pleasant. He was superb. As was the food and drink. I had lobster Thermidor. Rich and luxurious. My daughter had a cold shellfish platter. Lovely. My wife had a fish stew. Again, really nice. In the end it turned out to be a really lovely evening and I would definitely go back - but we could have walked out in the first 10 minutes simply because of one chap’s rather peculiar and abrupt manner!

I’d been looking forwards to this for a while and sadly it really didn’t deliver on any front, the oysters were tiny and quite poor, the seafood wasn’t great including the lobster that again was very small and dried out where it had been overcooked, the platter was two prawns, half a lobster, two scallops and some mussels, credit where credit is due, the bisque was nice and full of flavour but hugely overshadow by the other poor quality. We then ordered coffee and after 30mins had to prompt and wait another 20 minutes before it final made an appearance. I get it’s an institution and the pictures everywhere show the stars that have graced its tables, but sadly tonight it feel well short of the reputation it’s built up over the years Gutted really I was hoping for something special

Came here for my birthday with my partner few days ago and my partner is still ill after this dining experience( probably a bug from the oysters). So upsetting because after the meal we went for a drink to keep the celebration on but my partner started feeling sick and came back home quickly. My birthday was ruined. I had the scallops and lobster ( not impressed) scallops were chewy and the lobster was okay. I asked for the dessert ( tarte tatin) to have a candle, instead I received some petite fours on a plate with happy birthday( no candle) and my dessert separately. There was a charge for the petite fours( which you would expect to be on the house), if no one’s ordered them. Overall the bill came about £346- birthday ruined, my partner still ill, questionable freshness, and a dining experience not living up to the costs incurred. We -for sure not coming back. Visited for set lunch last Friday. Main restaurant consists of series of interconnected spaces which are both interesting and cosy. I found the food to be a bit over seasoned and quite rich with lots of butter, cheese and thick heavy sauces. It reminded me of eating out in the 1990's. Service was good but the reception staff were a bit abrupt on both entering and leaving. I was surprised to see a £2 service charge against the £5.95 bottle of sparkling water. This was in addition to the main 13.5% service charge! J Sheekey may be worth a visit if you have not been before but I doubt you'll be rushing back if you like your food prepared with more finesse.

I really wanted this to be amazing but sadly fell short of expectations. When we arrived the hostess was really lovely asked if it was an occasion which it was my birthday and we’d also included this on our booking when asked. Not sure why J Sheeky ask as it ends up they don’t do anything to celebrate your birthday. As we were early we were placed at the bar area by a very terse French/italian gentleman who just was not friendly at all. At the bar it was set up for diners and it was not clear if this was where we were expected to eat. We were then ignored for quite some time before the bar staff ‘realised’ we wanted a drink. Eventually we were taken to the table. The food itself was actually really good and the fruits de mer platter for a self confessed seafoodie was perfect. The service though was the ultimate let down. The food was brought separately and my partners dish which was the hot dish was brought first and by the time mine was brought his was going cold especially the mash potato. I would also say the portion size on the cod fillet for the price was not good value at all. At no point did anyone come to the table and check if everything was ok with our food. Clearing the table the waiter took the seafood platter away and then forgot about the rest of the table and started working elsewhere. Once cleared we were left for a long time in terms of asking if we wanted dessert etc. We felt forgotten. Something else that felt a little awkward is the constant managers looking at how ‘the tables are doing’ and when they’ll be ready for new guests. They do this regularly and you can see them pointing or nodding over at tables. Overall the food is great but the service is very disjointed and marred the experience and made my birthday feel a little flat.

Had the seafood bisque to start (lovely but large portion) and the skate with brown butter and capers for main course. Perfection. Will come again.

Fantastic fresh seafood as always, but the service has slipped somewhat since Brexit / pandemic. Guess it must be difficult to find and retain friendly and competent staff these days. Nonetheless J Sheekey’s an institution for its food and atmosphere.

They really do the best seafood in the West End. Recommend the Jersey oysters (with a glass of champagne) and fish pie! Very sweet staff, a bit cold in the covered outside area, but that's where it's fun.

High quality seafood, and you get what you pay for. Daily specials available are recommended. For a special occasion (or any occasion really) this will do the trick. Beautifully set and decorated, the walls are adorned with famous faces from a bygone era. Service was excellent. They are strict in timings but if you're early (recommended) enjoy a negroni or your favourite coctail at the marble bar. Food was delicious. Enjoy some oytsters whilst you choose the rest of your seafood. Recommend the dressed crab, but do ask for some toast. Potted shrimps were delicious. Fish pie and the fried haddock are the most economic dishes, and both were excellent. Scollops are also a must have for someone at your table (and everyone will want one!). The wine list is extensive wine list, and starts mid £40's per bottle. Overall great experience.

This restaurant set just off Chinatown is really a bit of a conundrum. On the upside the location is great, door and reception staff welcoming and the food well cooked. On the downside the portions are modest and not particularly well-presented (the crab is simply...

There is a reason this restaurant has been here for over 100 years, wonderful service, food and atmosphere. Everything was cooked to perfection and the service effortless. It’s a delightful place for a pre theatre lunch.

Dec 2023, very disappointed this time, it used to be our go-to whenever we are in London, but no longer I fear. Service was poor, my bisque was grainy and returned, we had to chase for mains even though it was not busy, when the mains came they had obviously been on the pass for sometime. My cod fillet and a side was returned as cold and lacking flavour. My wife's fish pie was delicious, apparently. My main came some time later. Not sure we will be returning. 2022: When in town this is our favourite place for dinner. Food and service is excellent. A special shout out to Carolina who kept us entertained at the bar.

J Sheekey is a London institution. It's one of the places to go if you're looking for a classic fish and seafood restaurant in the heart of Soho. Despite being what could be considered quite old school or stuffy, the servers are all incredibly sweet and engaging which I think makes a difference. The menu has an excellent range of fish and seafood dishes. It's a great choice for a date night, pre theatre dinner or especially if you're visiting the city- ita quintessually English and excellent for people watching. Would recommend companies, caviar, fish of the day and lobster. The fish pie is a speciality. The prawn burger is also great.
