Lovely dishes, tasty and fresh, great for sushi lovers. I would recommend it, we usually get take away from here and never disspointed.

Went today for the first time with work for lunch, I was so impressed. We usually go to one down the road but I've found my favourite now. I had the seaweed salad and some sushi rolls. Was very fresh and the salad was so different to what I've had before, 3 different types of seaweed. Would highly recommend

We started with delicious seaweed salad. Main courses of eel on rice with miso soup, soba noodle in hot soup and assorted tempura. A highlight was the green tea ice cream.

Service charge of 15% was included, this was not disclosed in any way. This was very dissapointing as it just ruined it all. If it was disclosed I'd have no problem, found out it doesnt go to the staff either.

my first visit to Izakaya, it is a very casual sushi and robata bar, everything is cooked right infront of you, not ver comfortable seating but food is very fresh and tasty.

El almuerzo estuvo bien. Comida japonesa bastante tradicional. El cerdo Katsu era demasiado grasoso para mí. Las mesas estaban pegajosas. Bit grotty y caliente por dentro. Bastante caro y se agregó un cargo por servicio en el menú especial del almuerzo que creo que es descarado, especialmente porque no lo hicieron antes de que fuera obligatorio tomar los pagos con tarjeta. El almuerzo de Katsu con ensalada pequeña y miso con coca cola fue de 13. 90.

Great food. Tasty, fresh and varied (fish, meat, vegetarian). I could eat here every night! The staff are usually very friendly!

Visité por primera vez el lunes por la noche. Probamos una variación de sushi y todo estaba recién hecho en frente de nosotros y absolutamente excelente. La única queja que tuvimos fue que los platos principales eran bastante pequeñas por el precio- pedí teriyaki tofu que era £9 y estaba sólo a 5 trozos grandes de (deliciosos) tofu, no arroz, etc. A pesar de esto sin duda volveremos!

Segunda vez que he ido. Sushi preciosa, recién hecho (a la orden, detrás del mostrador en el restaurante) y deliciosa. Langostinos tempura son increíbles, así eran las albóndigas al vapor. Servicio amable, todo el personal era increíble. A un precio razonable. Sushi en la zona mejor de lejos. Recomiendo encarecidamente una visita!

Tempura excellent, but why use Chinese Rice? Even with the Spidercrab sushi? Why cheat? I suppose with customers not familiar with Japanese food won’t realise. Big disappointment, we mentioned to the lady when we paid, she just smiled.

This "Pub Grub" producer of food as available in drinking joints in Japan has an extensive menu with an abundance of items not offered in most average Japanese restaurants. Prices are good,service fast and friendly.Food is excellent. Booking advisable...it can be very full.

My family have been regular visitors to this small Japanese restaurant in Finchley Central. We were upset to hear that it had been obliged to close for certain reasons (that I won’t dwell on). Anyway it’s open again and the food is up to it’s usual high standard. Great variety of sushi, sashimi salad etc, excellent cooked dishes - especially salmon teriyaki. It may have lost a few customers since it’s temporary closure but my recent meal was excellent and I’m sure they will be full again.

The restaurant closed a few days after I visited, by order of the Borough of Barnet. The reason, according to the notice affixed on the window, is "uncontrolled rat infestation". The restaurant is currently closed for "refurbishment", obviously will never go there again

I came by myself, sat on the bar. The place was empty as it was early evening (was full once i left). The service was good, but the waiters all stood in one corner, laughing :) hope they had a good time.

お寿司はネタが良かったのでとても美味しかったです。その他エビフライカレー、しゅうまい、豚キムチ、揚げ出し豆腐、おひたしなどを注文しましたがどれも美味しくいただけます。カレーは自分で作った方が美味しいと思ったけど、店員さんもフレンドリーで近くにあるとありがたいお店です。

This is our favourite place around Finchley Central station. We went dozens of time, mostly for dinner. I always take same dishes, so can highly recommend: agedashi tofu, vegetable tempura, salmon-avokado inside-out roll. My wife had more variety and never sent anything back. The staff is always cheerful and welcoming. Highly recommended.

We ordered a selection of nigiri which was all delicious with a great variety and good ration of fish to rice!The hot food was all very tasty as well. We were very pleased with the food and the waiters were all very friendly when we went to collect the food.

Went to the restaurant for my birthday treat and the food was up to its usual wonderful standard.Then it came time to pay the bill. I always like to leave the waiters/waitresses a tip but my husband pointed out that there was already 15% service charge on the bill. So we asked if this money was given to the staff and were told NO. As there were 7 people the bill was not small so 15% was quite a dollop on the top.I have to say that I like service to be given to the people who give the service.My decision is either to cross out the service charge and give cash to the staff or to go there only at lunch times when I think this charge does not apply.Saddened as I live nearby, love the food and the ambience but now have to cross this off our outings for an evening bill.

Went in for lunch on the basis that we liked the look of the food people were eating.We mistakenly ordered the seafood dumplings as well as the chicken dumplings; the latter were wonderful, the former were okay, but oddly served with Frenchs American mustard!I had the Chicken Teriyaka lunch set and my companion (Mum) had the Pork Kimchi set. The set lunches come with a nice little salad with a delicious dressing, rice, and very good miso soup. I liked my main better than the Pork Kimchi, which was interesting, but too spicy for me!It was a little expensive, but very nice. My Mum went in the evening a few days later with a friend and found it difficult to chose a balanced meal from the a la carte menu, but said it was still very good.

I have been visiting Izakaya now for some months. The quality of the sushi is up there with the best. The staff are knowledgable friendly and attentive. The price is reasonable too. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Go there you won't be disappointed either

Absolutely stunning fresh sushi, fantastic staff, and such a wide range of options! This place ticks all the boxes and all the food we had exceeded expectations. 100% would recommend, even if you're not a sushi fan there's so many other dishes to choose from.Definitely try the miso glazed aubergine (one of the top 3 aubergine dishes I've ever had), fatty tuna sushi, soft shell crab sushi and succulent fresh spicy squid. You won't be disappointed.

we are regular here, at least once a week, mostly for dinner. great rolls, tempura, agedashi tofu...great service by cheerful staff...best to book unless you come very late in the evening.

We were Driving through and saw this on TA. Thought we ordered too much when it came, but we demolished it very quickly! Glad we popped in the food was great! The squid starter was amazing and so was the teriyaki salmon. The sushi was very fresh tasting! I definitely will be coming back!

I have been to izakaya many times and am never disappointed. My favourite dish is the tofu curry ... it is balanced and tasty , and the tofu is crisp. The sushi is superb value for money. The ebi fry is crunchy , as is the squid. Nothing is greasy. Lunch time offers some great deals. Highly recommend.

Been here lots of times and always consistently good. Very efficient and friendly staff, reasonably priced and delicious, freshly prepared food! I tried the grilled aubergine this evening, which was amazing. Also have tried their soba noodle soup, their Californian rolls and chicken gyoza- all good.

Came based on a recent recommendation and was optimistic. But, sadly, we were disappointed. Initial order taking seemed efficient but it lacked any appreciation of diner needs because we received too many waves of food at the same time.The food itself varied. The miso soup and fermented soy bean sushi were good. The agedoshi tofu was good though the outside skin should have been a shade crispier. The gyoza was good. An aubergine dish was rather too sweet. The beef teryaki could have been better if the beef had been presented medium-rare (if we wanted it more done it could have gone back for more grill time) but the teryaki sauce was very good being tasty and thin rather than the gloopy mess that often drowns dishes. There was a problem though, we thought, with the chicken yakitori. It was a bit fatty but it was not grilled enough to give it a good charred flavour. The explanation of it having been pre-marinaded was plausible but then it should have been dried off before being grilled - as it was the too-wet exterior may have prevented decent grilling.The interest shown by the charming, well spoken young man was encouraging in suggesting perhaps the place can aspire to better.So, the rating is Average but one can see how there is scope for improvement and if this is achieved maybe a better, very good rating is possible.

I really wanted sushi but didn't want to drive into town so tried this Japanese restaurant close to Finchley Central tube. The place looks a little clinical, as with a lot of Japanese restaurants, however the food was a really good surprise. The sashimi was very good quality, hand rolls were excellent and the service was friendly too. I will be going back.

Delicious, high quality food which I can highly recommend. The menu is concise with a well thought out selection of dishes. We had the tuna, aubergine starter, mixed leaf salad, steamed chicken with egg and rice, miso soup, various sushi rolls, teriyaki beef and chicken - all of which have been fresh, well cooked and very tasty. The service is brisk and the ambience is cafe rather than restaurant. It's a great place to eat with friends and family and enjoy food.

Hi,went there with my son who has spent time in Japan for dinner Staff very helpful and friendly ,the menu is ectansive and its very temting to over order which is what we did,but it was worth it each dish superb nad my son compared it to the best meaks he had in Japan quality excellent and not expensive for what we ate

In The same place was a wonderful femly run japans resturant. This ferly new resturant doesn't look like much from the outside, but the it a true gem! The food is exlent and service is pleasant. Me and my mum shared assorted Nigiri and salmon roll, and chicken teriyaki and rice. We were each given salad and misogyny soup to share. The raw fish was fresh, the sushi was perfectly cut. The chicken was succulent.. I never had it taste this way before. The rice was sticky but not dry. There was a nice lemon sauce on the salad. The miso had fried tofu which is different! All this for £20 during lunch :) Service was gentle and helpful. Can't wait to go again with my bf and friends! Wouldn't mind some Japanese music in the background though. BTW my picture of food is half eaten.

For those who do not know,"Izakaya" is the Japanese equivalent of our pub grub. They are a variety of dishes designed to be shared by the customers. The ones done as part of the extensive menu of this place are very well done and recommended! The other items on the menu are also very good. Service is quick and friendly staff help to explain if needed. Prices excellent. Better overall than some of the posher and much more expensive Japanese in central London.

Often quieter than it's rival Ai Sushi across the road but the sushi is just as good. Ambience not the same but the quality of fish is incredible and it's got a really great selection of sushi. Highly recommend!

Great food, great sevrice - im now a regualr and hope it stays that way for a long long time. we found this restaurant through a friend reccomendation and since then the service and food gets better and better. Fresh ingredients, great service even when busy and best of all reasonably priced.

It's a modest place a stone's throw from Finchley Central station. At lunchtime the extensive a la carte covering the entire Japanese gamut of sushi, maki, tempura, curries and udons is supplemented by two or more pages of modestly priced specials. Most of these come with rice as well as complimentary salad and miso soup to start. The soup with the occasional little crouton was especially good. As a main I chose beef teriyaki the closest in Japanese cuisine to a sliced steak. A very satisfying and well dressed dish. I was surprised by the high ratio of staff to diners. I must have been served by at least three different waitresses whilst an older male waiter was also in evidence. The choice of beer was a bit limited: three bottles of Japanese beer plus Carlsberg but no complaints about my choice of Sapporo. Service was as quick and efficient as you'd expect from a Japanese place.

We've walked by this restaurant on numerous occasions, noticing that it was nearly full. After reading great reviews online and having a big day of walking around North London, we popped in for an early dinner. Everything that we ordered was delicious and a good size portion. Miso Soup, Korokke, Tofu Katsu Curry, Veggie Gyoza, Veggie Tempura, Avo Roll,Kanpyo Roll all were great and to top it off, great value with our total bill including service coming in at well under 40quid including drinks. Will definitely be returning very soon.

Arrived at 9 and didn't have to wait - from walking past a few times earlier in the evening I would say you'd be wise to book. Food was really tasty, and pleasingly when you ask for a recommendation they don't point you towards the most expensive item on the menu. Although some dishes are slightly expensive side (not compared to central mind) there are real bargains to be had. Looses one point as although this is an informal restaurant with a casual cafe feel, it could do with a lick of paint. But don't let that deter you!

This is the best restaurant in finchley. It's not particularly cheap but really good quality food. Would recommend the sushi (really fresh), salmon teriyaki, miso aubergine and the Mackrell. Great little restaurant.

Nice and well presented nigiri, good spicy prawns, tasty seaweed salad, bland noodles wrapped in omelette - good idea but didn't really work. Tasteless green tea. Service impossibly slow and ineffective. Came three times with wrong dishes and brought last one after we had given up and were prepared to leave.

The food is great; fresh, authentic and a Japanese! From sushi, sashimi to yakitori and teriyaki, everything is freshly prepared. The sushi chefs are skilled and interesting. I love it here.

One of my favourite Japanese restaurants in London. The place is very small with simple decor, but the staffs have alway been very friendly and apologetic when they are slow to serve due to large number of customers. The menu is not as extensive as other places, but quality of the food is superb and the fish is very fresh. I'd recommend trying their chirashi don as it's one of the best in town and the california roll is to die for! Best to book a table in advance even for midweek visit as it is hugely popular.

I enjoyed a lovely midweek meal here. The service was great and the food excellent. I had the sashimi platter to start, followed by the chicken Katsu curry. Both were delicious. You've got to have some warm sake too when visiting a Japanese restaurant, it would be rude not to!It's a small restaurant and was full when I was there, but if you're a solo diner like me, you can eat on the bar.A real highlight of my stay in Finchley.

Our japanese friends invited us to enjoy the lunch together at this place. Very simple, yet cozy cafe. Don't expect any fancy settings or servings. Still, we tried a lot, half of the menu and everything was very delicious. Our friends told us its kind of authentic japanese food. Will recommend this place to visit for a lunch or dinner.

This was a spontaneous Friday night meal after a few drinks. We wanted good food without any pretentious crowds or long queues, the usual drill in town for walk-ins. We were offered a table straight away and the service was very attentive. The range of dishes was pretty extensive for our needs and I would Definitely recommend the miso aubergine and pickles. I don't think it was too expensive considering the quality. The only area for improvement is that the bright white decor and atmosphere was a bit cold and clinical.

Lots of mixed reviews about this place but from someone who has eaten in many Japanese restaurants, it really is good value for money. I found the overall quality of the food very good and with the exception of the salad cream squirted all over the noodles in omelette, I enjoyed every dish. Sashimi was very fresh with generous portions as were the sushi rolls. We tried the beef teriyaki, udon noodles and gyoza and all was to a good standard. Service was fine but then it wasn't busy when we were there. The biggest let down with this place is that there is no ambience and it very much cafe style.Would definitely go there regularly.

There used to be a very good but slightly pricey Japanese restaurant occupying the same site 'Darum san' which we had been going to for a few years. This latest offering was more than a slight disappointment. Food here was quite good, the starters came and we were quite impressed by them. Then the main came. I say main, because whilst i received mine, my dining partner was left a further 10 minutes before we enquired as to where her dish was. I was eating very slowly and was still at this point half way through my meal. Upon enquiring to the waitress she retreated to the sushi bar and came back with the reply that it would be another 15 or so minutes before her dish would arrive. Apparently they had many sushi orders and despite the fact that this was her main and incidently quite a simple dish to make, she would be made to wait. Despite our protests, the dish came a good 15 mins later, well after i had finished. It was a most odd experience going out for dinner, but not actually eating together. They offered an apology and expected us to leave it at that. Outraged at how poorly the situation was handled i asked for a partial refund on our meal. The manager replied "would that make you happy?". Insulted and fuming we asked for the bill, which promptly came but turned out to be another tables bill on closer inspection. Another apology and our bill came, without the agreed deduction. I sent the waiter back again and finally we paid up and left. Make what you want of this review, ok to good food - if not entirely authentic, diabolical service.

I'd actually rate this restaurant 3.5 stars. The food (we ordered various types of sushi, kimchi buta, gyoza, etc) was authentically Japanese, well cooked and fairly delicious. The service was also polite and efficient. And the atmosphere was relaxed, which was good to truly enjoy a meal. The sake (rice wine) was not very good though.We would go back again.

My husband and I went, intrigued to see how busy it always seems to be. We were a bit disappointed in the food quality. It was OK, but we were not impressed. It didn't seem special. Judging by how popular it is, others do seem impressed.

been here 3 or 4 times now, a good, competent local japanese restaurant in the leafy suburbs of finchley central. most things are well executed. the sushi & sashimi are particularly a cut above many other local japanese places i have been to. we had some excellent takoyaki & unagi don, as well as the usual selection of sushi.service is a touch chaotic at busy periods, so early meal times might be advisable before the dinner crowds descend upon this place. also there was a high proportion of japanese customers which is always a good sign.all in all a worthy addition to this area bereft of decent eateries.

This is one of the many restaurants around Finchley which serve authentic Japanese food. We live round the corner of the restaurant and have seen it really busy on many occasions but alas we decided to try it out 2 months ago. We ordered a teriyaki chicken with rice and the tempura soba. We were pleasantly surprised how tasty and fresh the foods were. My tempura was light and crispy while the teriyaki chicken was equally delicious and well cooked. The portions were generous but we still think it is slightly pricey. We come here as a little treat for ourselves now as we know we will not be disappointed with the quality of food. We have been back 3 times now and each time it has been pleasant!

Izakaya is a smallish place, simply decorated and a little hectic at times- comfortable enough with friendly staff though. The sushi here is of a real good quality, not surprising given that the sushi chef has worked in the big name restaurants like Nobu and Roka. The Californian roll has real crab and is really tasty, as is the eel roll. The salmon here is superb, nigiri salmon with a £9 Saturday salmon sushi lunch special being great value. The Chirasu is a pricey item on the menu, but is actually good value; its sashimi layed on top of rice with garnishes including fish eggs and pickles. The other things worth mentioning away from the sushi is the miso black cod, prawn tempura and katsu don - pork schizzle with rice and a omlette. Overall, I come here for the sushi, but the other dishes are well worthwhile. Out of the Sushi places around Finchley and Golders Green, this is my favourite.

There are quite a few sushi restaurants in Finchley and I think this is one of the best. Prompt friendly service. The sushi is always fresh and appetising. The menu has the regular crowd-pleasers as well as a few interesting specialities. It's a small venue which can feel a bit congested at times. It's always busy both at lunchtimes and in the evenings, and there are always Japanese diners, which is always a good sign!

The food is good and the staff is nice. The quality is on par with other Japanese restaurant of the region . But I would expect it offer a more competitive price. Golders green and finchley has a large Japanese community and hence a lot of Japanese restaurant, this one seems to be a bit expensive compared to others.

Japanese cuisine has always been one of my favourite type of food to have. We happen to find a nice small looking Japanese restaurant situated not too far from our hotel. It was a Monday evening and a busy night for the restaurant. The decorations where simple Japan style. Good busy atmosphere but seems to be lacking waiters to help around such as; serving the food, dealing with customers, bill etc.. (The restaurant is small so maybe they didn't want to hire too many). Staffs were friendly, and our food wasn't long to wait. The seaweed salad had a good sauce to kick the seaweed and salad (good light starter). We enjoyed the food and recommend anyone who likes japanese food to try here. I didn't give it a rating 3 because it wasn't good, we enjoyed it there, but it was in between.

This used to be a great local Japanese restaurant. We used to go on a weekly basis for friendly service, tasty food, generous portions and a good value lunch. Then a few months ago we went in and the staff were all unfamiliar. Smiles were gone and the staff looked stressed and this translated into surly service. The food remains good quality, however, the portion sizes have noticeably shrunk, things that used to be included in the set lunch (e.g. Tea) are now charged for by person (although the pot size is the same regardless of one drinker or three). We have been back a few times since in the hope that we were wrong. Hoping that this might have been just some transitionary pains between old and new staff, but alas not so.Seems this place has changed hands and a great friendly neighbourhood Japanese cafe has become unfriendly expensive and poor value. A real shame.

i've been here a few times now. My impressions have ranged from annoyed, to overjoyed...Firstly the good - the fish is really excellent. If you want to eat sushi/sashimi and live locally, this place is worth a go. I like a lot of the hot dishes too, although i had a katsu curry and really did not like the sauce (but i appreciate that others may enjoy it).The not so good is the service - I have waited an hour and 20 mins for a takeaway meal before. I called them up, went down to collect after 40 minutes as they asked and then had to wait a further 40 minutes for my food which was frustrating (no apology given). My girlfriend and i also walked in on a relatively busy night, stood at the door for a few minutes and were completely ignored by the waiter/waitresses so ended up walking out and eating elsewhere. They employ approximately 10 staff on a busy night, if not more, and for such a small restaurant that sort of experience displays a real lack of experience. So a good restaurant in the making, but not there yet. I'll be happy to come here again though, so long as it's not too busy

Sushi is very good. No wonder why is always full. Me and girlfriend popped in for a quick taster. We tried assorted Nigiri. They let us choose those we wanted without any problem. We are not Sushi specialists but the fish and sea food is very very fresh.

we had the salmon teriyaki, prawn curry and soft shell crab tempura...all were made to perfection and tasted fantastic. Will definitely be returning to try the sushi!

A 5-piece sashimi lunchbox fed me and my husband with some leftovers! Some truly lovely fish, very fresh and sweet. Will be back.

I was really impressed by the quality of the food which easily compared favourably to the eateries in Soho. Service was prompt and polite. Will definitely add this to my list of local favourites.

Enjoyed my dinner with my partner here recently. We are both Japanese and struggle to find an authentic place we can visit casually. We came here recommended by a colleague and although the service took slightly longer, everyone was attentive and friendly. The food was great and extremely reasonable in price. Not to be missed.

We ordered Katsu-don (pork cutlets rice bowl, Buta-kimuchi (fried pork and kimuchi) and Chicken curry at lunch time. All of them were very authentic Japanese tastes and met our expectation with some salad, miso soup and pickles included. A Japanese staff was very helpful to let us in at the last minutes of lunch time.大晦日のランチタイムギリギリに入れてもらい、iPadで紅白歌合戦を観させていただきました。味もボリュームも値段もロンドンの日本食レストランの中では上位に入ると思います。

We chose Izakaya for a family event on the recommendation of one of my sons, and he was absolutely right - the food was delicious. We chose a whole range of dishes to share, a sort of Japanese tapas experience, and washed them down with sake. None of the dishes disappointed at all, and nothing at all was left on any plate!Service was relentlessly efficient, friendly, and helpful regarding unfamiliar dishes. The ambiance is brisk and modern rather than dark and cosy, but that suits the whole approach. Sadly the credit card machine broke down while we were there, but that happens, and it did not change anything we felt about the place.Prices are a little on the high side but it would be quite easy to steer a cheaper route through the menu than we did.On the whole, thoroughly recommended. Go there and try the octopus!

Nice local place where the food meets a good level for Japanese food by London standards. I have been here a few times now. Its a fairly expensive place to eat but if you want decent sashimi without travelling into central London then this place is a good choice.

にぎりは小さめですが、味はおいしかったです。繊細な手仕事をしている感じがあり、少し待たされますが綺麗に並んだお寿司がきました。中心で握っている人は一人日本人で、他は他国の方です。ウエイトレスさんは日本人で日本語も通じるので安心して食事しやすいです。焼き鳥は非常に残念なかんじで、レトルトっぽいもののように感じました。一品ずつの量は少なめで、やはり高いと感じますが、この辺では仕方ないしこんなものだと思っています。

I think this is an only quality Japanese restaurant in Finchley Central area. I'd recommend to anyone who loves Japanese food or anyone who wants to try for the first time, great sushi, great hot food, goodness sake and the atmosphere is lovely and relaxed. Amazing value for money.
