Istanbul Barbecue House in Leicester

Visited here with my family. Only some staff give you good friendly service whilst some staff try run the place like a back street chippy in the back alleys of Istanbul. Once you’ve passed that the food is average. They claim to be HMC but there’s no certificate anywhere. The thing about this place is that it’s small and more of a cafe that there’re trying to portray it’s a restaurant. If you put a flower in a butt hole, don’t make the hole a vase.

we ordered an takeaway last night at 7.30 was told it be a 35 - 50 mins wait fine.callled to see where the food was at 8.30 to be told it's out for delivery, 9.30 called again to be told the food is coming off the grill called again at 10.15 and was told it's on it's waythe food did not turn up till 10.30. 3 hours to deliver food is a little crazy I know not of bothered. very disappointed.

Takeout always been fab. But this time it was the worst that I have ever had from this place. It came cold and had to put in microwave. And meat was so dry. They said 40 min but we awaiting 2 hours near. I had watched a full film while waiting for it to be delivered.

We are regulars at Istanbul; a lot of the time I order on behalf of work and on other occasions me and the wife pop in for a meal.... The guys are great, the food is fantastic and the service is top notch!Yasin (the owner) runs the business with his family - true Turks and they are focused on doing good quality food well. I am vegetarian so usually order a halloumi and falafel wrap (with extra halloumi) and it is delicious. The salad is always fresh and their chilli sauce is so tasty!The wife had a chicken beyti last time and she loved it - she said the meat was succulent and tender and tasted so healthy and delicious.They always deliver. I would recommend the guys in Istanbul to now take the lead and introduce new vegetarian options such as soya kebabs or tofu kebabs for more choice for vegetarian people. The meat choices are vast so a few more choices for us would be fantastic!Keep up the great work and we look forward to more food from Istanbul!

Take-out took 1 hour 40 minutes. Food was cold when it came and part of the order was missing. When we called the restaurant they hung up on us. When we called back and asked for a refund they refused. Will not be ordering from here again. After 1 hour 40 minutes wait the food was stone cold and we had to re-heat it!

Take-out took 2 hours and 5 min, and food ended up cold.We ordered take-out for 3 people and were advised it would only take 45 minutes. It took over two hours. When we called the restaurant the person we spoke to was very rude and hung up on us, saying it busy and driver must be stuck in traffic, even though we live 15 min away. When the food arrived not only was it cold they had missed a portion of chips. One of the burgers was ice cold and all the sauce and soaked through the bun. We called again and the manager was very rude and unwilling to refund is. Not good customer service at all. If your looking for good and reliable food then this is not the place. Will not be ordering again!

Overall a pretty good meal, nothing to complain about, but slightly bland, although this could probably be due to personal preference. The salad tasted fresh but had no dressing which was a bit disappointing. I probably wouldn't go back but not because it wasn't good, just because I prefer somewhere else.

What can I say from the place to the food and the staff could not do enough. Food was amazing and excellently cooked right to perfection. Thank you Istanbul for a perfect evening.

Amazing quick service. Freshly prepared fantastic spread of salad, rice, meat and bread. Timing was perfect. One hour for lunch 15 minutes to spare from walking in to walking out. Excellent

Over 1hr 20 mins then I decide to call, not even with the delivery driver, so cancelled order no apologie didn’t seem bothered at all, I won’t order from them again

It took over 45 minutes over the delivery time Was chasing it several times Manager was nice and said ring back if not happy but didn’t as this was 9.35pm But food was all cold and dry

Had a delivery from here a few times, and it's always been decent food, but a bit cold. Had a delivery recently though that completely took this Michael. Was told 45 minutes for delivery. An hour later it hadn't arrived. Rang and complained and got £1.50 knocked off, and they still took another 45 minutes. Food came cold. I literally could have walked to the place and picked it up quicker. The veggie kebab is a disgrace btw, steer clear of it if you're a vegetarian. It's basically a vegetable soup. It ain't a kebab. Go to the proper Istanbul on Narborough Road.

A little gem perhaps where you wouldn't have expected one. Simple and clean cafe/restaurant and good prices

Waited over two hours for the delivery and when it finally arrived we received the wrong order and the food was stone cold.

Our family have used this restaurant to eat out and order take away since it first opened.

Almost two hours after ordering a take away from here and we were still waiting. I called twice to find out where my order was only to be told each time that it was on its way or that we would be the next delivery. Had to cancel. With that service I wouldn't bother trying out eating in at this place.

My wife and I have eaten here this evening as we have many many many times. We have introduced all of our 'foody' friends to this venue and we deliberately over-order to guarantee left overs for the following day. Fresh salads and meats cooked over coals in the venue have never failed to impress. Given a free choice of where to eat for my last two birthdays I have chosen here. Not licenced and no alcohol on the premises and it is Halal (for those this matters to either way). Incredible value and great food is a winning combination. As regulars we know all the staff in this family owned and run place which always leaves me well fed.

There is not a sign that shows people that it is halal.Ban halal in the uk I have never or will i ever go to this place.

We visit Istanbul regularly. The service for both take out and eat-in is friendly and the food is always freshly cooked and delicious. At many other establishments serving grilled food, especially other Turkish places the food tends to be mediocre and either undercooked, overcooked or just badly cooked! Not so at Istanbul shackerdale Road- it is just right and fantastic. The preparation of the kebabs is always fresh and tasty. If you love authentic Turkish grilled kebabs then I highly recommend this place. It is also very clean and comfortable and the accompaniments to the meal are also fresh and tasty.

customer service is terrible! ordered on hungry house the food came late and the order was wrong, the driver parked across the road from my house and beeped his horn at me for me to cross the road and get my food instead of delivering it to my door like any delivery man would do!

Visited here again with my wife and children and as always, it has been a delightful visit with friendly welcoming staff who are always happy to serve. The food was also amazing! We had the combination kebabs and the meat was well cooked, fresh and tender as always! The kids also had a selection of chicken nuggets and burgers to choose from for anyone with family who are picky eaters.

Wigston suburb/village is not exactly Leicester's hottest night spot, but if you're there and hungry the Istanbul (easily found on a big corner site) is a very good choice. Pleasant, bustling atmosphere and well-patronised. Healthy Turkish food of all kinds - kebabs and so on - all authentic and good sized serves. Staff are efficient, friendly and eager to please. Big takeout section also. Prices reasonable and good value. Recommended.

Went here today again and it was incredible! The staff and the food never fails to impress me and would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a day out to eat with the family or night out with friends. The meat was also well cooked from the grill and you get reasonable proportions.

Eaten here yesterday arragant manager ,Been ill all day today the food was shocking and was hardly any meat on the lamb chops absolutely terrible

Fab food fab staff ...wonderful place. Although does not sell alcohol they allow you to take your own ! Meze was awesome .

Ordered for the first time after recommendation. Wish we hadn't of listened. As a family of 4 we decided on a family special for £34 feeding 5-6 thinking that it didn't matter if there was a little left, better to have too much than not enough. Called and arranged for collection as read reviews that said sometimes delivery was very late and others earlier than expected.I was told that this meal was now £38 and I must have an old menu. Not sure how long I've had the menu but sure it isn't that long! Anyway I was told that there was a meal for £22 or one at £27, after saying that the meal was for 4 I was advised that the £27 one would be plenty enough. We did however decide to order an extra bread ad only 3 in meal and chips incase my 14 yr old daughter didn't like the meat. We picked it up £31 in total (£3 for cold dried out chips) got it home and opened. Well sorry but £31 left us feeling totally ripped of! Thought we were missing something, called restaurant only to be told to return if I thought something was missing, as I explained this was the first time I had ordered so didn't know what to expect but a bit more for £31 . Ended up putting the phone down as fed of being called darling and felt as if I was being patronised. Warmed the food as almost cold even though we'd collected it and decided to try and make the best for the money paid. Taste not bad but never worth what we paid, a square foil container with mainly bony meat and bit of rice underneath. Very small foil containers with sauces and 3 cans of coke as "they didn't have any bottles".even though on the menu. I only take the time to write reviews if something is exceptionally good....or bad! In my opinion if you're thinking of ordering from here I'd say save your money. All 4 of us agreed that this was the worst takeaway we've had! Not sure how it gets the good reviews it does, maybe if we'd paid no more that £10 we could have accepted it. Would avoid never again!!!!

Never disappoints me. Love the lamb donna. This time we have family round so I decided to show them what they were missing. So i ordered over phone to be collected. Not one was disappointed.this a my fave Friday night takeout, and it's one of the healthier takeout u could buy.

We as friends decided last minute to go out for something to eat, Istanbul won the where shall we go hands down, one of my friends had never been to a maze restaurant before, after a wonder plentiful meal my friend is hooked, the atmosphere in the place was friendly I just love this place

Nothing but praise for this family business. Always clean freindly and great fresh food. Mezze is a bargain and always on point. Grilled food is Cooked to perfection every time these guys know what they are doing. Whatever I order I'm never ever disappointed with the food or the price

Heard from alot people the food was meant to be good here so tried it out today although my hubby had been before and really liked it. The good was amazing. So tasty, not greasy and the chicken and meat was quality, no nasty bits on it. We were about to order the platters for sharing for 5 adults and 3 children and one of the workers (although i think he was management) came to us after and said what we were ordering was going to be far too much food and if we trusted him then he will sort it out. We did and he got it perfect. The breads and dips for starters were delicious, the mains spot on and the baklava for sweets was lovely. Finished off with tea and it was a percect evening. The service was excellent and it was nice to see the toilets were clean, warm and usable. Defo worth a visit....or few.

Popped in this evening for a take away. Great customer service. Yogurt and cucumber tasty. The whole place smells delicious. Great diet tips too. Go and enjoy the v great smells and clean looking salad.

This is the best eat out place in miles, Food is amazing and plentiful, great value for money in fact I would pay more for the lush meal we had. Staff are so friendly and happy to help with anything you need. I will defo return !!!

Firstly there are simply too many choices when it comes to Turkish food in Leicester. Trust me I've tried them all. However I discovered this by accident. I'm so glad I did ! I've got to say the food and customer service here is simply superb, The Best in Leicester ! I ordered a mix kebab which was beautifully presented with salad and chips. All freshly cooked and very quickly served. Now the taste is sublime and delicious !! Wow !! I can honestly say this is a grill house that you must try. You will definitely be glad you did. The chap that served us was so helpful and friendly, a job well done !!! If your not sure what to order there is plenty to choose from and very polite staff. Forget The Rest, Try The Best Place in town !

I was glad to come across a different type of takeaway, and this place was very good. We had the istanbul special which included a range of barbecued meats with rice/salad/Turkish bread. We also ordered some houmous and were glad we did as the sauces that came with it were tiny. Really enjoyed it, and will definitely be ordering again. Feels like a slightly healthier takeaway than your usual pizza/curry/chinese! Only reason for 4 stars is because it was about 20 minutes late so took about an hour in the end.

I discovered this takeaway (although you can eat in) by accident about a year ago, and what a great accident. I have either the mixed or chicken kebab. It is always cooked fresh, presented nicely and tastes delicious. The staff are friendly, the place is always busy but don't let that put you off. The staff work hard and there is very little b waiting time.I would even say it's possibly a heathy (ish) kebab!

Came here last night and had the family platter. The 3 meze's were excellent, the selection of kebabs were great (although the tomato/onion kebab should have been included). All the food was freshly prepared and quickly served. The decor was great and so was the service. My only gripe is that they have no card payment facility and you have to go boutside and use the pay £1.75 to use ATM.

I've eaten in and taken away often from this little gem. Great barbecue meat and fresh, crunchy salad with extra tasty rice. What's not to like!?

A great restaurant, possibly my favourite in the city. Chefs are great even under pressure when it's busy & staff are lovely, then there's the food which is incredibly good!

Just had lunch here and what more can you ask for. I'm careful of what I eat and Nick who works there catered for me chicken kebab, Turkish salad and a beautiful vinegar dressing. So much to choose from and all cooked fresh. You get what you pay for and for me this is worth every penny. Good service, excellent food and really friendly people.

Very good food cooked fairly quickly. Have eaten in and had takeaways. I must say the last takeaway we had we didn't get any grilled onions or tomatoes or pepper which was a bit disappointing as we do like these with our food. I think the guy cooking rushed our order as he was inexperienced. The owner does it best and I would suggest he watches his staff do things as he does, this will insure his businesse stays consistent and customers will not be disappointed when they are hungry.

I visited on a Sunday evening. The spicy chicken kebab was freshly prepared and cooked. I had to wait 10 minutes for my food to be cooked. It tasted amazing, and was piping hot when I arrived home 5 minutes later.

Loverly BBQ chicken served with rice salad the only thing that lets it down is the flat bread there are nicer flat breads to be had. The bacalava is some of the best ive had even in turkey. Overall value for money eat in or take away.

I have just opened up a shop 3 doors down from this restaurant so we went in to introduce ourselves and sample the amazing foods. Omg what can I say but truly and utterly amazing My husband is Turkish and when I told him he was so happy to be sampling the foods.The service is next to none prompt serice with first class food and a smileYou get a brilliant meze to start with then the mains are to die for true Turkish foodAnyone wanting real Turkish food do not hesitate in trying this restaurant I think it's going to be a local of ours from now on love it and the owner is so friendly x

I have given a rating purely for being able to order online & the fairly quick delivery. Ordered mixed meze, "family" mixed kebab and some extras. There is no way on earth that the amount of food, particularly meat, which was delivered was worth £45. The meat tray was bulked out with a bed of rice to make it look more and the whole lot was pretty awful. The meat tasted of BBQ lighter fluid, the rice was bland, breads were dry and the mixed meze was a joke. This was our first and last ever takeaway from here - maybe dining in the restaurant is a better option but don't think I'll risk it.

Good local takeaway with an authentic taste. Great meats cooked straight from the grill and very reasonable prices. The staff are also very friendly.

I love my meat and this meal didn't disappoint. This is very good value for money and the portion sizes are fantastic. I have since had numerous takeaways from here since and they too were amazing.

food is decent BUT messed up my order on 3 separate occasions! once I got food back home and realised I rang them straight away and the waiter accused me of lying! the nerve of the guy was unreal, really rude and arrogant! Real authentic Turkish food. Not posh at all and loads of noise and hustle and bustle which seems to add to the authentic experience. No alcohol but don't need it.Place is busy constantly and best to book at weekends

This is about the fourth time we have ordered take away meals from this restaurant and it never fails to deliver good quality food. We are given a complimentary cup of Turkish tea whilst waiting for the order to be completed. The family platter consists of skews of lamb and chicken shish, adana shish and chicken beyti together with chicken wings and lamb ribs. There's also mezes, rice, salad and Turkish bread all cooked to perfection. There's also a few tables if you fancy eating there and a wide menu is available. With friendly and efficient staff, this is the place to go for a different but enjoyable eating experience.

I've ate all over the world this restaurant serves the best grilled food staff so friendly I come here once a week simply the best .

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend as I really enjoy my marinated meats. It didn't fail. It's a great place with fantastic chefs that make very high quality food. I would like to see the interior revamped a little but in all its a fantastic eatery.

This place is brilliant. It is simple, well marinated, quick healthy food!!There is a family atmosphere and it's great for both taking clients and dining with friends and family. The mix grill is to die for!

This is kind of a restaurant/ take away type of place and not the biggest in terms of seating as their is like 4 tables. But the service and food nevertheless was excellent. I tried the mixed kebab, and the meat was succulent, juicy and tasty! Prices are fair considering the sizes of the portions.

In the last week I have ordered twice from here as a takeaway but have only actually received my food once. The first time was an order from hungry house and after an hour and a half and 2 phone calls to the restaurant we decided our best option of eating that evening was to cancel the order and go to McDonald's instead. The staff were apologetic but did not seem overly bothered about losing our custom. The second time we did receive our food after a long conversation on the phone to make sure they had our order correct. After collecting it the food was cold and, surprise surprise, we received the wrong food. Once again the staff we apologetic and offered us a discount on our next visit. Our loss though, as there won't be a next visit. If you want good Turkish food and excellent customer service, visit the Istanbul restaurant on Narborough Road, not this one.

Myself, and a group of 10 others attended and were on time for the booking. Our table wasn't ready, which none of us minded, as across the road was a pub so we decamped to there for more beers. When we went back, orders were taken and some complimentary bread and dips were put on the tables. This was very good. Then things started to go wrong, my friend next to me had her main served to her- and three of us hadn't even been given our starters. Eventually my starter arrived just as my friend was finishing up her main. I ordered a liver starter, and it was absolute rank- I wouldn't have fed it to my dog. So overdone it's hard to work out how it was possible to cook it for so long. This was strike 2 for me, and when the mains came out I had lost the will to enjoy anymore. My wife had a liver main- hers was the same as my starter- massively overcooked. Mine, for what it's worth, was quite nice. I had a mixed kebab and the meat was tasty but as I said, I'd long since passed over to having a less than enjoyable experience. Suffice to say, I probably* wouldn't eat here again either for a sit down, or a takeaway. Disappointing.

The authentic Turkish cuisine that is produced form the Grills and Kitchen of this place is by far the best tasting in Leicester. You won;t find better tasting meat and generous size portions across Leicestershire.This WAS my regular until...I found out they regularly scored a 1 (MAJOR IMPROVEMENT NEEDED) on their food hygiene certificate (still correct as of August 2015 form their 12 May 2015 inspection. It doesn't make sense., I've been in there and watched my food prepared and cooked fresh in what looks like a thoroughly clean and healthy environment. Please Istanbul Barbeque House. Arrange your re-inspection, get the 5 it would seem that you deserve so i can justify to myself to start to order from you again!

had an early dinner here.They have expanded a bit and hence lots of seating options.Their Hummus and Bread are great.Chicken is very soft and tender.Defintely will be revisiting when in Leicester

I have now been here plenty of times and its brilliant, fresh quality food which is out of this world. I tell you what makes it better than anywhere i have ever been, its consistency, its perfect every time, most places you will get a couple of good meals then a bad one, this place is perfect through and through no one will be disappointed going here. I have recommend to hundreds of people who have said the same thing as me

What a place to eat, ordered jumbo platter between 5 hungry people, still couldn't finish. Very generous servings, was very busy on a Tuesday night but service was still on point, order taken quickly and it came out within 10 mins, will definitely visit again

My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night to eat in. The takeaway area in the restaurant was jam packed, so was the main restaurant - always a good sign. All staff we dealt with were friendly and attentive. The food was AMAZING! And such great value for money. Would recommend to anyone who wants to try something different or wants a meal out for a good price. Great location to move on to bars etc too

The restaurant was moderately busy as I walked in to make my takeaway order (but thankfully I had time to kill), I spoke to the lady on the till and asked how long my order would take which I was advised would be 30mins. That was fine by me, I popped over the road for a cool pint and returned half an hour later .... The lady instantly recognised me and I asked if my order was now ready for collection, at the that point one of the cooks then grabbed several chicken skewers and put them on the grill! To cut a long story short I waited a further 30mins in the restaurant until my food was ready and their was a good crowd of similarly frustrated customers. The quality of the food is fantastic but unfortunately the service and wait is not so, the lady on the till imparticular had a bad attitude who claimed my wait wasn't 1 hour but infact '45 minutes' as to prove a point, not sure that warrants bragging rights tbh.

Ordered and given 30 minute wait time, showed up shortly after 30 minutes and food was not ready, we were asked to wait 15 minutes, we did complain, but waited. We were then started on by the other aggressive customers (who had also waited but clearly egged on by the owners) upon leaving were told by the staff 'he is a point your food was 15 minutes late and you are complaining'.. Ok fair play... Won't order again.. Food is nice but not worth verbal and threatening physical abuse thanks!

I have dinned here about 20 times at least. I enjoy the atmosphere as it is always so buzzing. I have recently noticed that the portions have become quite small compared to what it use to be. It is good food a little pricey for the starters. Also on a few occasions we have pre booked, however this has gone unnoticed as we have still had to wait and bring to the staff attention that we are waiting to be seated. The restaurant has been extended, however with the extention they have to accommodate disabled persons as it is cramped. And toliets are far with steps. Apart from this they have a good concept.

This is a regular take out for us, absolutely yummy, my favourite is the chicken beyti (minced chicken kebab) and my husband always has the wings. Dishes come with a generous salad, rice and Turkish bread which is lush! Would recommend!

My partner and I eat here about once a month, we choose to sit in although take away is available, we like the atmosphere and very friendly staff. The food is just amazing and fresh !! you will not go home hungry there is plenty served on your plate also everything is cooked in front of you over hot coals so you can see exactly what your getting and how it's cook. The seating area is always clean and tidy. Overall a very delicious meal no matter if you sit in or take away.

I've been to this restaurant to take out 3 times now ,the staff so nice, place is clean,lovely to see them cooking food Behind the counter.food always looks and taste Fresh and amazing.nothing is too much trouble for them.and love the free bread I get too. going back again on Saturday I think this will become one of our fave take away place. keep up the good work.

For a takeaway with tables the food is delicious, nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the prices are extremely reasonable. Even when you walk in after they have closed!!!

We have visited both for 'Take away' and to 'dine in' since this restaurant opened, and can honestly say the food is excellent. The friendly staff and attention to their customers needs, also sets them aside from other places we have eaten.This is becoming a regular place for not only us but also other members of our family. Highly recommended.

In summary:Book before you go. It gets so busy in the evening. People were queuing outside for a tableNot fine dining. Casual and quick turn aroundService is poor. Food is delicious. In detail: Ate hear last night. Make sure you book. It's a very popular place. Tables are crammed quite close together to accommodate demand. Service is quite poor. I asked the waitress about two traditional Turkish drinks on the menu. She said she had no idea, and didn't go find out either. Staff also parade the dining area waiting for you to leave. Slightly pressurising. Food is bought out as and when it is ready. Two of us finished eating before our friend received their main. Food - good tasty food. Decent portions. I'm a vegetarian and ate a selection if mezes. Pleasantly satisfied. There are two others similar Turkish BBQ places opened within two mins of Istanbul. They seemed quieter and more spacious. I'd try them next time.

We've visited many times now, always trying different dishes and we have not been disappointed! Friendly staff, laid back atmosphere, fabulous value, the bread is to die for!!!

Had a lovely night with hubby the food was great had family feast only £19 loads for 2 people ,They only sell soft drinks abt £1 each And the place is only small but we booked, will defo be going again very soon ,and its also a take away

Im extremely happy with my first visit to Istanbul restaurant. I was amazed at the portion sizes. The meat on platter was succulent and tasty also mezes were plentiful and tasty. The staff were amazing and always helpful and very patient towards our children ( as we had a party of over 20 with very young children it got very noisy at times!) I will Definitely be visiting again with my family.

The customer service was excellent; the food tasted pretty good and it was a compete bargain as well. The only problem that I could think of, if I were to be picky, would be the restaurant's tables were too close together, except for that, I'd highly recommend it.

This isn't a bad little place. The food is tasty, fairly cheap and there's plenty of it. The atmosphere isn't particularly nice and the service can be surely at times though. It feels like you're eating in a take away. Also they don't serve alcohol so if you like wine or beer with your dinner go elsewhere. It's a nice way to try middle eastern/ Turkish food though if you haven't tried it before. I much preferred Yesim which is just down the road, it's much nicer and comparable in price.

Amazing food yet again.lamb chops are lovely.staff are nice.we had booked a table and still had to wait 20 minutes so that was dissapointing. Will be back soon though .

This place has recently opened and it's really making an impact. The food was great and the hospitality out of this world! Very friendly and generous with lots of extra bits of bread, calamari, vine leaves thrown in apologising for wait and busyness, neither were particularly a problem. Hope to return many times.
