Indian Zest in Spelthorne

I was with my daughter for nice meal out together. This was only the third Indian meal I have had. My "chicken whatever" was absolutely DELICIOUS. I will definitely return. The service was excellent and my evening meal with my daughter was wonderful. Thank you.

Thoroughly enjoyed the two course set lunch at the Indian Zest. Ambience, service and food were amazing and such good value for money. We can't wait to go back again. I highly recommend it

I haven’t reviewed this excellent restaurant, which we are so lucky to have within walking distance, for several years. We love it so much that I feel it deserves another review! We regularly have orders delivered, and dine in every couple of months (I would eat there every night if I could)! Deliveries always come within a good time frame and are nice and hot. Dining in is of course even better! The building is unique, so historic and absolutely full character inside, with all sorts of levels and areas across the floors. Last summer we had a table in the outside area for the first time, which is beautifully lit and a perfect place to be on a warm summer evening! Staff are polite, helpful and efficient and make you feel valued. Now for the food! It is just superb! The presentation is beautiful, so artistically arranged (the Thali is just one example - more on that later)! The metal serving bowls that sit on your table to help yourself from are beautifully ornate and keep the food really warm. The menu has a huge range of dishes to suit all tastes. Their speciality is authentic dishes inspired from across the regions and cities of India - everything I have tried over the years has been excellent. If you are after a ‘British’ version of Indian food (thinking of things that are actually British inventions such as Chicken Tikka Masala and Vindaloo!) these can be prepared on request and also appear on the online delivery/collection form as ‘Favourites’. These are good but I would highly recommend taking the opportunity to try the more authentic dishes. As a vegetarian, I have so many options (there is also plenty of choice if you are vegan). The three current veggie starters are all excellent. After all this time I am still working my way through all the veggie main dishes (some are sides that can be served as mains). Here I must mention the Vegetable Thali (for those dining in). This is a complete meal for one, including poppadum, naan bread, rice and several tasty veggie dishes all served in little pots. No need for starters or sides. The presentation is simply superb (you will find people’s photos on here). No matter how hungry I find it impossible to finish (luckily they happily pack leftovers to take home)! There is also a non-veggie version which I know is also popular. My carnivore husband is a creature of habit and tends to always go for a particular stater and main! The various naans are delicious, the poppadums are thick, fresh and crispy, and the chutney is the best I have found anywhere. When you arrive they serve a little complimentary ‘amuse bouche’, basically a few sips of tasty soup in a little glass, which is a nice touch. I have only made it to a dessert once, but it was lovely! There is parking in the council run car park right outside (free after certain times) which is usually easy, but at very peak times you may need to park in residential roads nearby, or round in the parade of shops in the Avenue. It is also right on the 216 bus route. I apologise for the long review but I hope my musings might help potential first time visitors! Enjoy!

Definitely worth the money , we had 2 course lunch menu . I can say best food in area . Kids loved the chicken tikka and chicken makhani. Food portions size was worth the money , and the service was superb too. Will be back soon

A bit cold in the restaurant when we were there but not a problem.

Do NOT order from set price menu. Took my family of five yesterday and we were all appalled at the poor quality of food in such a so called reputable indian restaurant. It was just awful and a false economy to pay £14,50 for what was two courses of food that was substandard. At least no aftereffects so far. Chose not to complain at the time for fear of upsetting grandchildren.

Wonderful food with a lot of vegetarian and meet and sea food options. Good selection of wine as well. Excellent service. I would suggest reserving a table, if you are a large crowd.

This was definitely one of the best indian restaurant I have been to. The food was very tasty and the service even better. The staff were great and so polite and accomodating. I am not a fan of indian desserts but their beetroot halwa was unbelievably good. I would recommend this restaurant without any hesitation!

It was my birthday and I went there for diner with family! Food was lovely and staff courteous and amazingly baffled with how good their Beetroot Halwa was!!! Highly and definitely is our favourite place from now on!

My wife and I - and on occasions our family - often eat at Zest, sometimes enjoying lunch on a Saturday or Sunday, but also sometimes celebrating a birthday or anniversary. The food is consistently good and the service excellent.

Had a great date night. Indian Zest is definitely a good cut above the rest. Very fresh, and so tasty with original dishes. My date doesn't like too much ghee, and she was not disappointed. She loved the food, and the prices were not exorbitant either. Thank you

This has very quickly become one of my favourite places to eat in Sunbury. The service was absolutely outstanding! The food was out of this world, the flavours were incredible as was the presentation and thr portions were more than generous. I'd definitely recommend visiting Indian Zest when you're next in Sunbury!

Best Indian in Sunbury Always get first class service Menu quite different from other Indian restaurants

Our latest visit was on New Years Eve .... it was a very enjoyable evening (the staff are so pleasant), the food was superb and the service faultless!

Not bad! Food was ok! tasty but I think I picked the wrong dish. I had the dry chicken tikka starter as a main, as you can see in the photo the portion size was pretty small, it was dry; bland and not very filling. Left me a little disappointed. However The rogan Josh was great! And so were the prawn starter I had! I’d definitely ask for recommendations on food from someone you know who has been already so you know what to get! The atmosphere was a bit dreary, the staff were very quiet and didn’t want to joke with us or even pretend they were enjoying the evening. We felt rushed out the door too. Price for quality I wouldn’t say is matched. You could get better for half the price in a classic Indian restaurant. The South African wine that is on the menu is lovely however. And the lime sorbet was 10/10!

Fantastic dinner with my vegetarian son and his partner. Son built his perfect meal from the vegetarian sides while his partner enjoyed an amazingThali. I ordered the Chicken Miravna, a first for me and absolutely delicious. Staff attentive and friendly without being in your face, not the cheapest in town but certainly great value for money. We are early, at 6pm so the atmosphere was just getting going. Plenty of space, beautiful location, happy customers.

Fantastic food and service. I can’t judge Atmosphere because I always have delivery – orders are easy to place, quick to arrive and always accurate. Phone is answered straight away by a real (helpful and friendly) person. Food arrives hot and is always outstandingly delicious, whatever we choose. Authentic Indian flavours, made from varied and fresh ingredients, served in generous portions.

I have driven past this place a thousand times but always stick to my local curry house. After a dinner with friends here this is now my new favourite place. The curry flavours are delicious, the Nan was perfectly thin and the rice was light. The service was great and the atmosphere was lovely. All in all a great place

Normally have had good service here but few months back we had a booking and the head waiter looked at us blankly. We then sat upstairs and ordered our food. My father is a strict vegetarian yet they served him keema Nan which isn't even on the menu. They apologized and the same waiter from earlier offered us "free dessert". Pathetic they didn't even offer to not charge us for such an awful service. Their apology seemed half hearted as well.

This was the first time we visited the restaurant. We had warm welcome by the elderly host/ waiter/ manager.Staff was courteous. Disappointment was food . Scallops We had ordered mix grill paltter Lamb shank- main course Chicken kolhapuri And some naan. Scallops were good but mixed grilled platter lacked flavours ,portions were good though. The main course were complete disappointment.no tatse it felt all of it was made in same tomato based sauce. Its is good menu would do wonders if food has flavours.

Pure luck that I picked this restaurant whilst staying in Sunbury on my own for one night. What a piece of luck it was. A really excellent meal, and a lovely atmosphere. So good I’m driving up from Plymouth again next week to take my wife here. A real pleasure, and what I imagine proper traditional Indian food would actually be like.

Every time I visit Zest, I come away happy - The welcome is always sincere and warm if I've booked or not. The ambience is peaceful even when busy. The service is calm, attentive and efficient. The dining area acoustics are great, with generous table density, and interesting views. But the main reason to visit is the food - which is unique, creative and excellent. I feel blessed to have Zest within walking distance of home, and recommend it as a magnificent dining destination for those far or near!

My husband and myself had a lovely dining experience, though we did not have any reservation. the atmosphere was amazing and the Staff were very welcoming and attentive. The menu offered a delightful array of dishes from parts of India, each expertly crafted with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Every bite was a culinary delight, and I can’t wait to return to explore more of their delicious creations. Highly recommended!

Beautiful setting in the gardens of the this lovely restaurant. Tasty fresh food, rice in metal containers keeping them hot longer only one negative comment my pompadoms starters were meant to be an assortment but three different pieces broken and uneven in there sizes and one burnt disappointing. But sure it is a one off. I've eaten her before and the food is always excellent.

I travel around with work and travel to this area once a month and come to this Indian every visit. I lived in India for some time and I have to say the food here is better than any over there, the roti’s are to die for! You will not be disappointed if you come here, everything is exceptional.

Have heard some very good recommendations so expectations were high. Food is mediocre at best, presented beautifully but it's all style and little substance. You'd enjoy it if you don't know what it's meant to taste like. Very overpriced, too.

This is our local Indian restaurant of choice. Visiting since April 2021 We have taken family and friends to this place and let me tell you it does not disappoint. The service is great and the food is very tasty. We will keep visiting and bringing people over ;)

Been going for years, and this place never veers off-course. Whether dining from the a la carte, the set lunch or thali menus, everything is impeccable. Fresh quality food served well in a smart setting, by courteous staff. And a lovely hidden garden too.

The restaurant is very nicely presented and the staff are welcoming. We had popadoms and chutney as starters, followed by a chicken special dish and lamb dhansak. The lamb dish was delicious, the chicken dish was okay but it lacked flavour. We also had mushrooms and aubergines as side dishes. It was a lovely relaxing meal.

We were going to an outdoor event but it was raining so much we made a last minute change of plans and were lucky to get a table at Indian Zest at short notice on a Saturday night. It's an old building that's very well looked after, several different seating areas including a very nice outdoor space. Food was plentiful and well cooked, reasonably priced for the quality and service pretty good considering they were very busy One niggle - when we were given our bill a bowl of mints and small chocolate balls was placed on the table. Nice touch, but as soon as we'd paid it was whisked away and put on an adjacent table of another couple about to pay. When they paid it was moved on to another table. At that point to our knowledge at least 3 couples had had their fingers in the bowl of unwrapped sweets!

The food is consistently outstanding as we are returning guests. The choice is excellent and the services attentive and very helpful. We are always made to feel welcome.

Another fabulous evening at Indian Zest. Delicious freshly cooked curries and Dahl, fabulous puddings (I had the beetroot halwa) and a wonderful Indian Sauvignon! Always welcoming, always excellent value.

Our party of five enjoyed another wonderful meal at Zest yesterday evening. Fresh, beautifully prepared dishes, served with efficiency and charm. It is the reason we always want to return to this first rate establishment, prettily set close to the Thames and with a delightful courtyard to enjoy in Summer. Thank you to all concerned. Nearly forgot to mention the innovative dishes and sheer glory of those subtle spices! Adore the paneer with artichoke hearts, helped down with a fragrant lassi.

Went for pre-theatre dinner. Had a sharing starter and another starter each. Beautiful, artfully presented food - and so delicious! Table was laid with white linen which managed to leave unblemished. The restaurant is so lovely, various rooms, a lovely outdoor patio, decorated with pieces of woodwork from India and other artefacts. Wish I'd discovered it before, and am glad I have now.

Looks nice from the outside, but that doesn't do it justice. Inside the restaurant is nicely decorated, but the garden patio area is a lovely haven of tranquility. Then the menu is not your run of the mill Indian restaurant menu, but it has good variety, we had a lamb dish and chicken dish and both were tasty, well spiced and well cooked. On top of that, it is very fairly priced - £15 mains, £5 sides etc. Really can't fault this place and we will be back.

We have been visiting Indian Zest since a few years this time we tried the vegetarian menu and found it to be very delicious. The restaurant service and hospitality is always good. We will visit this restaurant again for sure.

Hospitable hosts, delicious dishes, beautiful presentation, samosa was too good, wide wine list and wonderful dessert. Bit delayed but amazing food and service. I recommend to everyone! I would like to come back here again and again.

We came to celebrate birthday with my 4 friends , had awesome thali. The food was yummy and these service was excellent . They gave complimentary dessert too. Will surely come back again.

The One and only Authentic Indian cuisine restaurant very positive atmosphere

Thought the food was a bit bland and not well seasoned, which was a shame because the menu has some different dishes on it to try instead of your " run of the mill" indian restaurant. The onion bhaji starter was delightful, but my other half had the lamb kofta starter and said it was too small and not very tasty. We both opted for chicken dishes, the chicken was moist but as said before the sauces were a bit tasteless. Service was superb and the restaurant itself is lovely, maybe the chef was having an off day!

it used to be a very good indian restaurant, but that was before the pandemic, now, I don't know if they changed cook or for any other reason, the food is below average. Its a shame because I live in the neighbourhood and it was very handy having a good restaurant near by... Avoid the chicken korma it tastes like coconut ice-cream, as for the lamb there are several in the menu, with different designations, we order two of that, but they taste the same. Deserts are a joke: you can not have anything else but ice-cream. Ice-cream this, ice-cream that, mango, vanilla, you name it. We also had prawn koliwada as a starter and I have to admit the dish was good. There use to be a board on display stating the restaurant has a Michelin star, I think it was a shooting star, because it's been long time gone... ----- My answer : Dear Mr Bhanu Pratap, My review was done with all honesty, not pretending anything else but to call someone attention (maybe yours) for the lower quality food Indian Zest is offering, in my opinion, to their customers. My review was based on two dinners we had with you in the last two months, last time we were there it was on the 10th of February, we sat at the table (round table) at the end of the  dining room by the patio doors, 7.30PM reservation made in name of Vera. It's true someone came to the table during the dinner asking if everything was OK, I answer yes because we were with guests and didn't want to spoil the dinner. The chicken korma had coconut, I am ABSOLUTELY sure of that and it taste like tofu= nothing. The desserts were all icream based deserts, we ordered two of them: one had a quarter of a strawberry cutted in half and the other some exotic fruit I can't tell the name but it looked like a very small orange. The lamb dishes were HORRIBLE, both of them, same flavour and very hard to chew. The house wine was also very poor. The only thing that was reasonably good was the prawns, we also ordered scallops but they were mediocre. Very sorry to be so negative but that's the way I feel. We live here in Lower Sunbury-on-Thames, I use to love your food, we went there very often before the pandemic, but now I am not thinking in return, not in a foreseeable future...
