Lovely quiet place & very friendly. Was unsure what to go for so the man gave him his recommendation & it was delicious. Will definitely return if ever in the area again!

A delightful and delicious meal with my wife, who grew up eating Indian food. She approved and so did I. The owner is lovely and the food was fresh, hot and tasty!

If in st Lawrence you must try the Indian Ocean the service was first class and the quality of the food even better very personal service well recomended

We had a great meal at Raj Indian Ocean in late September '23. We started with the usual poppadoms and dips that tasted very fresh and especially the yoghurt which was light and creamy and worked well with all the other dips. We followed this with a chicken tikka biyriani, another chicken curry dish and some sides, they were all expertly cooked and served on hot dishes which meant the food remained hot throughout the meal. We will be back!

I have been to Raj Indian Ocean 5-6 times now and I can honestly say that the food is amazing and always to a very high standard! This is our favourite Indian in the area and we will visit again and again!

Absolutely the most finest Indian Food we have EVER tasted. The meat and chicken are mouth-wateringly tender. The sauces are rich in flavour all made with fresh ingredients, herbs and spices. The most amazing curries. Everything delivered piping hot in a sealed box. I would never order an Indian meal from anywhere else. Abdul is a lovely man and the whole eating experience is sublime. 5* plus.

We just picked up our takeaway for tonight from the Indian Ocean in st Lawrence, And once again was not disappointed with the flavours. We had chicken vindaloo made with home grown naga chillies great sides and rice . This really is a little hidden gem amongst us. Well done chef and rag fantastic food.

Visited for the first time whilst on holiday, 15th Sept 2020, food excellent, owner could not have been more helpful imparting his knowledge of genuine Indian food. Going back for a second sitting this Friday.

Hi i visited Indian Ocean last week, sitting on the sea wall having the best indian i ever tasted in my life. The lamb melts in your mouth. King prawn was out of this world. Would highly recommend :)

A little gem next to the stone inn pub, Indian Ocean is amazing 10/10. Staff and food are lovely and Raj recommended the best chicken tikka chilli masala I’ve ever tasted. Only problem you have to buy drinks from the pub.

I had a takeaway from Indian Ocean, it comes in a sealed box piping hot!! The food was top notch. The keema naan never tasted like this before and the prawn puri is the best in the world. 👍🏼

We love coming to Indian Ocean and are regulars here throughout the whole year. We live about 45 mins away but use this place as our local Indian as we thoroughly enjoy the food. Always the highest quality meat here and Raj often makes us new and exciting dishes for us to try. He is always very welcoming and generous with his portions. In the summer we bring our friend children here and he makes the chicken tikka wraps which goes down a real treat. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Had various of meals from here all have been tasteless. Masala tastes like a korma. Always a long wait told an hour which is OK but sometimes waiting 2 or more with no apology. If u want a nice Indian would go elsewhere

OMG what an amazing curry here at Raj Indian Ocean.Which l found quite by accident whilst doing a coastal walk on holiday. I highly recommend the chicken tikka garlic jalil cooked with mixed vegetables and garlic with spices to chefs own receipe. The chicken was so moist the flavours of the vegetables so tasty. The garlic nan was excellent. The only down side is l live 150 miles away.

Amazing meal sat overlooking the estuary. Raj and the team are lovely and accommodating. Good sized portions of lovely authentic Indian cuisine. Keema rice is amazing.

So happy we live so close to such an amazing Indian restaurant, we mainly get takeaways and are never disappointed, always tasty, great quality and hot. The Chicken Tikka Chilli garlic Balti is on another level (if you like the heat) and the King Prawn Dansak is amazing.

First curry since lockdown started, it was worth the wait! Another fantastic dinner from Raj and his team. Raj knows what we like and is happy make suggestions and add variations to the menu...our top tip is to always follow them!This is a tiny restaurant and the covid restrictions will apply for a while yet but don't let that stop you enjoying a take out or if the weather permits go for al fresco dining looking over the Blackwater.

just had takeaway from Indian Ocean. Chicken tikka was amazing, full of flavour and large pieces. The tandoori mixed was awesome - lots of food, and wasn't dry like I've had from other places. Vegetable sides were perfect and not greasy. Nan breads also cooked just right. Definitely worth the journey from Southminster and will definitely do it again. Came highly recommended by a friend, and I can see why :)

The last thing I’d expect to find in a remote Essex village on the shores of the River Blackwater is an Indian restaurant. Even less likely is how good the food is. Fantastic starters, the best samosa I’ve ever eaten plus less common dishes like mackerel bhaji, delicious. The main courses and sides are delicious too. Everything we’ve tried so far has been excellent, we hope to go back lots to explore the whole menu. Every dish is different and distinctive and the ingredients taste fresh. Make the effort and go. Can’t wait until the summer when we can watch the sun setting over the river while enjoying a delicious meal (2 of my favourite pastimes).

Had a fabulous meal her with my partner for his birthday. The food was the best we have had in the area. Freshly cooked, flavoursome and piping hot. Raj recommended dishes and we were not disappointed.

Yet again another amazing meal from Raj & Chef whether you have a take away or you sit in the restaurant you are always guaranteed good food. As I am now Pescatarian Raj and Chef always meet my dietary needs with a variety of fish dishes that are always so tasty. This restaurant is worth a visit you will definitely not be disappointed best Indian food I have ever tasted.

Yet another fantastic meal at the Indian Ocean. All food freshly cooked and full of flavour. An extensive menu to choose from and if it isn’t on the menu then Raj will make it for you. Lovely outside setting for the warmer months, right on the water front. If you would rather eat at home or can’t get a reservation then try the takeaway, its just as good. 100% recommendation from us

Last week came into the Indian Ocean and asked what am I having today to Raj. Recommended cheese sagwala which I have never tried before. I could try to describe the food but it means nothing only I have been thinking about coming back all week to getting the same dish. Best curry I have ever had.and cannot recommend a better friendly place

We live in Norfolk but when we visit my parents nearby we always make sure we visit Raj and his wonderful restaurant.Although I tend to eat the same food, Raj will adapt to suit my heat tastes (very hot with homegrown Naga chilli's) and try to tempt me with other delights. My partner is coeliac but that never stops her from enjoying her meals equally as I do. I highly recommend Chicken Chat on Puri and Murgi Massala. You MUST visit this place....

I love this place. Everything is cooked fresh, the food is tasty and authentic and it is an intimate unpretentious atmosphere. Not my nearest Indian restaurant by a long stretch but very worth travelling the extra miles to get a decent Indian.

Bear in mind that the round trip from Ipswich to St Lawrence Bay is about 3 hours so I must have either (a) been totally nuts or (b) been a very good judge of character because it was amazing! I said that I had only ever really eaten Kormas and Tikka Massalas etc and that I wanted to try something more authentic so "What do you recommend?", I asked. The answer came in the form of two dishes that literally blew my mind (one chicken, one lamb), Onion Bhaji that I really LOVED (I have never liked onion bhaji before), garlic rice that was beautifully flavoured and didn't taste too strong or too mild and a Bombay potato that made me actually smile from ear to ear! Oh, and the Peshwari naan! Sweet Lord the bread! I asked how he made the bread so soft and tasty and he said "I spend a little extra on the flour". He's obviously not letting out his secrets because that was more than just good flour! Don't expect silk tablecloths and statues, this is all about the food. The restaurant is a small building attached to the side of a pub and you have to walk through the adjoining door to buy your drinks in the pub and bring them back with you to your table, (as the restaurant isn't licensed) but it's really not a problem and well worth it to get such great food. We have lived in St Lawrence for 18 months now and cannot believe how lucky we are to have this brilliant restaurant right on our doorstep. Eat in or take away, it does not matter, the food is outstanding, couple that with such a friendly owner, great little friendly pub and stunning sunsets on the river. Wow.

Staying in Steeple for the weekend and came across this place. The owner was so welcoming and the food was excellent. I wish this restaurant was closer to home. It makes the food at other Indian restaurants seem very poor. Choose the crab Dopiaza and Bangladeshi rice or the perfect balti jalfrezi.

I am fortunate to live in the small village of St Lawrence Bay and i am very reluctant to write this review because I think we should keep Raj and his fantastic chefs to ourselves.

Had a lovely meal at Indian Ocean a week or two back. My partner and I sat outside (despite the threat of rain) and we enjoyed a terrific meal. I had a Lamb Madras which was full and flavour (and heat) while my partner had a delicious Chicken Tikka.

Last night my wife and I had a delicious meal at the Indian Ocean. I ha e nothing bad to say about this restaurant. Good food, friendly staff. Perfect. The chicken chat on puri was to die for! Definitely going back for that.

we have been four times now it is quite a distance where we live but it is worth it. Friendly service the mixed grill is what I had last time. Would highly recommend. My friend had the chicken passander very coconut taste. If you,like coconut would recommend I felt it needed more red wine and spices a bit bland but she enjoyed it More like a Korma big portions. My,husband had Prawn Dansak he thoroughly,enjoyed it I had Chicken Tika Masala last time so flavoursome would highly recommend

Me, my wife and family visited this small Asian restaurant today as we have been told their Sunday buffet is excellent value. The staff were very polite and friendly and the food we ordered from the main menu was delicious. For a set price of £11.95 for a starter, main course, side dish and rice or bread was fantastic value. We plan to return soon.

Five of us went there. What a lovely location. Looking out at the water front, I,had Lamb Tikka for starters. Gook quality lamb. The others has sheek kebab. And a Chicken Chat. All was excellent. Main course. chicken makini. Excellent. Mixed grill excellent. The other. Dishes where excellent. Please go there. Big portions excellent food. Excellent service. As I said best. Indian. Without doubt the best Indian I have had and such a surprise to find it tucked away in St Lawrence. Well worth travelling for. I had chicken chaat on puri for starter, and chicken maynamothi for main. Both new dishes to me and both super tasty. The accompanying peshwari naan and sag aloo were also spot on, and all 4 dishes were clearly cooked with the freshest ingredients. It really was a cut above all the other Indian restaurants I have visited. I shall be back!

We are locals at rajs Indian restaurant, we always have a great experience, the food is outstanding so is the service and we are always warmly welcomed into the restaurant by raj himself. Phoned for a home delivery on a Saturday night baring in mind restaurant open till 11pm to be told it was too late at 7.30pm for a home delivery. To then have the restaurant call me back to place my order and that it would be 1 hour 20mins delivery and £2 delivery charge. Terrible and very disappointing first time experience with Indian Ocean.

The last two home delivery meals have been very bad. Under cooked onion bhajee I.e sloppy in the middle. Lamb shush over cooked and tough to chew. The taste has not been as good as what it has. Very disappointed.

Three of us went after being told the food was good and it certainly didn't disappoint us. We've been to plenty of other Indian restaurants and have our favourites. Raj's Indian Ocean is definitely up there with the best. The layout between pub and restaurant is a little unusual but it works and gives it character. We will definitely be going again next time we are near there.

This little restaurant deserved to succeed. Occasionally (about once a month) my wife and I come home from work to tired to cook. Sometimes at weekends ( bi- monthly) we order from this little gem of a kitchen. We have never been disappointed and the usual problem of too much salt does not generally arise here. They work so hard in their busy kitchen and I thoroughly commend them.
