India Gate in Chichester

2 stars for the free poppadoms and a decent sheek kebab but good grief, the chicken Hariyali was utterly inedible 🤮 it was like tomato soup mixed with mango chutney - apparently it's won awards - I'm sorry, but no connoisseur of curry could taste that and do anything other than put it straight in the bin - which is exactly what I did.

Had takeaway. The red curry in photo is bland, mostly onion. The 'award winning' Hariyali was very sweet and tasted like mango chutney mixed with tomato ketchup. Nan and sheek kebab ok. Won't be going back. As for the service expect this shocking Indian food to be very politely served to you, and they will happily take your money.

A group of 12 of us went here for my stag do. Ive been coming here with my family since I was very young around 20 years ago. The food and service never changes. So I decided I had to do my stag here as I have been loyal to them for many years and they have looked after me and my family. My friends were from Chichester and some were from up north. All of our food was amazing and even the northerners were very impressed as it's hard to get something they like with the choices they got up there. Owner always top class and gave us shots at the end to round the night off. Will be back again with the family. Make sure you book as it's very popular.

Visited India Gate before going to the theatre as last time we visited here before Christmas it was amazing. We come from Petersfield to visit the theatre and when we do we always visit this amazing restaurant. We have tried other Indian restaurants in the area but India Gate tops them all. The menu is very extensive and have tried different dishes each time and all of them have been full of flavour and nicely presented. Not surprised by all the awards they have won. WELL DONE INDIA GATE!!!!

We were staying at the camp site and the host recommended us India Gate. Glad we took the recommendation we booked a table. As it was last minute we turned up the restaurant was heaving with people. We had to wait 15 minutes before we got a table but we can see why. Very Very busy on a Thursday night. The food was out of this world and we have been to a fair few Indians. This 100000% tops it. The service was very good even when the place was busy. I'm guessing it's the owner that came and had a chat with us very lovely person talking through how the restaurant started. What's a good sign is that there seem to be a large amount of regulars as the owner was going round talking to the tables. (Which you don't get these days. Overall amazing food and top service. We will be back in the summer

First time we had been there for over a year, but still very nice food and not to expensive, after meal the gentleman came across and asked if we would like a drink on the house which was most appreciated 😀 Go and taste the menu, you won't be disappointed. 5 Stars from us all.

Our family of 4 turned up in Chichester with nowhere booked on a Fri evening and stumbled on this place from a Google search- and booked it last minute. What a find. We received a warm welcome, really great service and delicious food. I tried one of their award-winning dishes and was very pleased I did. Really tasty. Honestly the staff couldn’t have been nicer. If I lived in Chichester this would be a firm local favourite. Recommend!

Came here on a Friday night as we were walking past looking for a restaurant to eat. The place absolutely heaving with customers so we thought it would be impossible to get a table. The manager came to us and said it would be about 20 minutes for a table so we decided to go pub and come back. Me and my friends are glad we chose this place as the food is absolutely top class. Service was amazing even when the place is packed. If you’re ever in the area try this place. It’s very very popular so do book a table.

This restaurant is absolutely incredible! The food comes out so fast but so fresh and lots of vegetarian options! The staff are amazing and couldn’t do anymore for you. Nothing bad to say about this place, you’re missing out if you don’t come!

So disappointing! We chose this place for its good reviews but the food wasn’t at all good. We ordered two ‘medium heat’ dishes but neither had even the slightest hint of heat or any spice. Both were swimming in oil. Overcooked vegetables and really nothing better than the most basic of cooks could produce at home.

12 of us gents dined here after a conference in Chichester. We all ordered a mixture of dishes and I must say every dish was full of flavour and different tastes. The service was really good even when the restaurant was full of customers. A very good sign for a very cold Tuesday night. We all be back to India Gate when we are back in the area again next month.

Been coming to India Gate since moving to the area from Guilford 5 months ago. Me and my wife have tried all the other restaurants in the area, please dont waste your money and book a table at india gate. The owner is honestly the kindest and generous person you will meet, always looks after you and remembers all his diners like they been coming for years. The food is out of this world and the service backs this to make it for sure an award winning eatery. Try the chicken rajnaga if you like hot curries, unreal flavours!

We went for dinner at India Gate on a Sunday evening. The restaurant is cosy and intimate and the staff were very attentive. The food was really lovely with the biggest, lightest onion bhaji I've ever had, I loved it. The staff are pappy to provide packaging for left overs so I'm looking forward to having one more precious bhaji with my leftover lunch. Our friends are long time visitors to this restaurant and we can tell why. It's likely to become a favourite of ours too.

Took advantage of their Monday night offer and had a really great meal. The lamb dish was very tender and I can see why it has won awards. Lighter and more fragrant than your average Indian restaurant. Lots of garlic in the chicken dish with enough fresh chilli to hit the spot. Great service and the offer of a complimentary nightcap was unexpected given the relatively low cost of our dinner.

Rude rude rude - table booked 3 weeks in advance taxi from Pagham to Chichester arrived 5 mins early - no table for us queue at the door spoke to waiter who ignored me went in to speak to someone told to wait outside - went back in 15 mins later told table will be about an hour asked if they had my booking which I showed them on my phone they just walked away - taxi called to take us home £40 out of pocket and no meal WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVERY HAD WARNING IF YOU BOOK A TABLE THEY WILL JUST FILL UP THE RESTAURANT THEY DO NOT RESERVE JUST GO ELSEWHERE THIS LOT NEED TO LEARN HOW TO TREAT CUSTOMERS

Good food, super spicy naga special curry, the lightest tastiest garlic naan ever, lonely staff, not the fanciest looking place but it's All about the food. Fantastic. Thanks guys.

Came here last night with the aikido club I train with. We were a big group (8 of us) but we had booked in advance and only had to wait a short time whilst the previous diners were finishing up etc. It’s quite a tight squeeze in the restaurant but still enough room on the table for all the food we ordered haha! Very polite and friendly service, and a varied menu with clear options regarding allergens etc. They were accommodating with my request for my meat dish (Chom Chom) to have dairy free cream instead. (They do have a whole page vegan options but I just needed dairy-free not meat-free). When preparing this, they came over to double check if I was ok with nuts too which was very considerate of them. My vegan friend was also pleased when they said it was absolutely fine for them to make one of the vegan side dishes (Aloo Gobi) as a main meal portion instead. The food itself was amazing, very fresh and fragrant. The rice portions are quite large - you could probably share one between two (though I did manage to finish 3/4 of mine!). All very reasonably priced too for the high standard and quality dishes, plus a bonus that they take the Blue Light Discount card too. Would definitely visit again to try out more dishes!

I had arranged a night out with friends and ex-colleagues. Food was really good, as was service. The only downsides were slightly cramped table (one of the party had to sit at one end which was a bit tight) and being close to the door, we were exposed to drafts when the door was opened (which it was on numerous occasions - particularly when there was a queue of customers propping it open). Other than that, it was very good and I would visit again but would ask for a table away from the door.

We had a truly excellent meal here. The whole dining experience was great from the moment we entered the deceptively spacious restaurant. We were greeted by friendly staff who were attentive throughout the evening. They were very accommodating and made meat curries without meat and with paneer instead. The food itself was well presented, plentiful and absolutely delicious. They was a good vegetarian choice too. There were old favourites and some restaurant specialties. We were given a complimentary baileys at the end of our meal. I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant.

Great curry had last night with my missus, we usually order takeaway from a place in Bognor as we have to have it spicy enough and the other options in Chichester simply won’t do it right.. everything we ordered was delicious. We were sat next to a rathe boisterous table of about 20 middle aged chaps, but this didn’t spoil our evening. Service was great, and offered a free digestif at the end too which is rare nowadays. I would reccomend ordering chopped green chillies on the side if you need it spicy though (anywhere)

My partner and I have been getting takeaways here for the past 3 years and have eaten in a handful of times, we wouldn’t go anywhere else, the food and the service is amazing every time. Our names are remembered and so is our regular order, we always get a complimentary drink when we come to pick up and if we eat in.

Found this to be a really good curry house. Had my usual Jalfrezi and other half had veg Dhansak. Both were really good and the naan was like a proper Indian naan, not a huge great big thing so many others do. Fully recommend. We also had excellent service and a very informative waiter.

Best Indian food in Chichester! We love our weekly deliveries from India Gate and we recently visited the restaurant with our family, which took our love for the food to a whole new level. You simply cannot beat it; fresh out of the kitchen, perfectly cooked, moist meat and full of flavour. It was divine! The Cobra beer on draught was also perfectly chilled and gassed; best pint of Cobra I’ve ever had! All the staff are lovely and very hospitable.
