Food was excellent. A blend of classic Spanish tapas which my wife and I were very familiar with and South African tapas which we were not. The piquillo peppers and the South African sausage were very distinctive. I would suggest you approach the menu with moderation as we over ordered and are taking leftover s back to the hotel

Four of us met for dinner and enjoyed a truly delicious meal. Pleasant ambiance and excellent service. A good choice of tapas dishes and desserts, a very good dining experience- the plum and thyme sorbet was the perfect way to finish a lovely meal.

Visited 29th May, 2023 as we were staying in Edinburgh for a long weekend and my wife is gluten intolerant and most of the menu (although not all) at Indaba is gluten free. We had a great experience and this is one of the best tapas restaurants we have eaten in. The food was amazing and we would definitely recommend. A good selection of specials and dessert options with excellent service, each item on the menu being fully explained to us and it was clearly pointed out if any contained gluten

Don't come early as there is no bar for waiting, so you will need to leave and come back, if you are early. They take very good care to highlight Gluten Free food and will ensure the items you order are GF if you are sure to let them know. Everything we ordered was amazing! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Must be the most unique culinary experience I've had during my stay in Edinburgh. The food was delicious (I totally recommend the goat cheese with carrot jam and cane honey, the chicken-apricot skewers and the desserts) and the staff was very kind and likeable. If I ever come back to Edinburgh, I'll definitely dine again at Indaba.

I visited on a Saturday evening with my daughter while enjoying a weekend away in Edinburgh. Close to the theatre and cinemas if looking for a pre/post show meal. Excellent service from a small welcoming staff in a comfortable and authentic feeling small restaurant which looks very inauspicious from the outside. We both agreed the tapas were the best we have had anywhere, including Spain, and indeed some of the most delicious food we have been served in a restaurant. Can't comment on the meat selection as we shared all fish and veg options but would imagine they are delicious too and certainly looked good from what we saw of other diners. Both the main and specials menu have a great and balanced selection of dishes. Hard to choose a favourite as they were all equally delicious. Small, reasonably priced wine list...we chose a bottle of Albarinho which was especially good. Small selection of Spanish desserts and also a good ice cream and sorbet menu from a local producer. We shared the trio/tapas of delicious desserts (great option for those who find it difficult to choose) and a coffee to finish. Came in at £80 in total and worth every penny. Go here....you will not be disappointed! We will definitely go back next time we are in town.

We visited this restaurant early one evening with a family and had a wonderful evening. The food was great. Flavoursome, varied, cooked to perfection. The staff were helpful, very welcoming and friendly. We left very satisfied.

We ate here whilst at the Fringe before lockdown and couldn't wait to come back. Don't be put off by the slightly austere looking frontage and location as once inside you will enjoy great service and food. 6.30 pm booking on a Friday evening (during this years Fringe) and pretty quiet upon arrival but by the time we left at 8pm place was packed and buzzing. We had 6 dishes of their somewhat eclectic mix of Spanish and South African tapas dishes which was just about right and we are fairly big eaters. All six dishes were beautifully prepared and or cooked and utterly delicious. The highlights however were the Prawns in chilli and garlic, the Sosaties (Chicken and Apricot skewers in a delicious sort of curry sauce) and the Biltong and Avocado salad. The wine list is limited but good and very reasonably priced. We easily got through a bottle of their Verdejo at about £22.......very acceptable. One very slight moan was the draft Estrella which we had upon arrival .....not really cold enough but we can forgive that....we still drank it ! The place just gives you a warm feeling for its food, service and ambience. On our next trip to Edinburgh we will be back again without doubt.

We were recommended from a work colleague to try Indaba Restaurant in the Tollcross area of Edinburgh & it didn’t disappoint. Our party of 6 hungry foodies ordered a varied selection of tapas on offer & on recommendation by the amazing Isabella. We tried 14 different dishes all of them cooked to perfection with various flavours & textures & enjoyed by all. Thank you for a wonderful culinary experience & would highly recommend this restaurant and we will be back!

I decided to book in this restaurant as a surprise for my husband's birthday. We are a Spanish couple and I wanted to treat him to some comfort food... I couldn't have chosen a better place. When we arrived we were showed to our table by the friendly and attentive staff. Our waitress showed us the board with the day specials and explained each dish. As an addition, we really appreciated being told upfront which dishes weren't available and being given well-thought recommendations to enjoy instead (nobody likes the awkward moment when the waiter says that your choice is finished for the day, and you end up rushing into a poor decision). The quality of the food and combination of flavours are superb. I would definitely recommend it to everyone. If you were a local in Spain and you wanted something a little special you would go to a place like this. They have classic dishes with a nice twist. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and wine.Unfortunately, we haven't tried the South African part of the menu. We will be back for that without a doubt.

Finally we made it back here after a wonderful meal a couple of years ago. I was slightly worried it wouldn't live up to the phenomenal standards of our first visit, but I needn't have been concerned - it was just as good.

Ordered @6 plates, nice variety, came as the kitchen got them ready, started with bread and olive oil from the restaurant, then: olives, almonds, followed by plates shrimp, chicken , salad, and asparagus.

The selection of tapas was incredible and it was nice to meet the restaurant owner. I lived in Cape Town for a while and the biltong salad with avocado was an excellent combo. I would visit again!

I hunted around for something that my lovely lady could enjoy given recent severe allergy to gluten and onions. They turned out superb quality dishes with ease. The scallops were beautifully fresh, the sausage fab, anchovies great and even the simple almonds were moist and tasty. The wine was good value too.

This place is unbelievable. We were recommended Indaba by a friend and each time we've been we have been blown away. The service is always great, with very attentive and friends staff. The drinks menu is also really good, especially the Sangria. But the food is exceptional. Possibly the best patatas bravas I have ever eaten. The pork dishes are all out of this world and the seafood is incredible. I can't wait to return!

Having a connection to South Africa I had wanted to visit Indaba for ages and was under the impression it had closed. This impromptu evening proved to be a worthwhile experience. I have become highly critical of the quality of food being served and pricing and have become pretty selective when it comes to paying above average prices for below average food. Indaba proved to be the opposite in this instance, this was the surprise. Ate really well both in terms of quantity and quality for a reasonable price, its more Meditteranean than South African, which was fine. Will return for more soon.

It's over 4 years since we last dined at Indaba. A new lick of paint, menu revised and updated and different individuals in front of house. The dining experience remains very good. The four of us grazed the menu - ten tapas dishes in total, all flavoursome and importantly served at a realistic pace allowing us to enjoy each dish whilst it was hot. We also started with a dry sherry before moving on to a Spanish red - both good quality and not overpriced. We were lucky to be seated in the cosy booth at the window - best table in the restaurant. Friendly service. All in all a happy dining experience.

After seeing a film in the Cameo picturehouse we dropped in without a reservation but managed to get a table. Service was excellent. Specials & menu clearly explained. Small wine list but reasonably priced & the bottle of red we had was very good. Food was all delicious. We actually over-ordered but it was only because there was so much we wanted to try. We just have to go back to try the other dishes. I highly recommend the trio of desserts. The orange/almond cake & cardamon cheesecake were especially divine. Great little restaurant. Can't wait to go back.
