From the 10 minute boat ride across, the super homemade food to the return, this is a lovely place to go for a bite to eat and a few drinks. It’s probably advisable to book (unless you have your own boat!) as the boat picks you up to order. The food is lovely, seafood pasta loaded with prawns and crabmeat was superb as was the panko chicken with fennel salad. There’s even a tot of Inchmurrin whisky on the malts menu to round things off. A super experience, lovely staff & wonderful views! What’s not to like?

We come up every year to Scotland (Loch Lomond) and managed to come across this restaurant on Inchmurrin Island. We booked lunch for 1pm for the five of us and the boat met us and brought us across to the Island. Great day and fantastic experience as it is a family run business. Had a lovely lunch (who serve generous portions) Dad runs the ferry crossings, Mum runs the kitchen and daughter manages the restaurant. We asked for a window seat but all tables had a great view over Loch Lomond They have a great recipe for success and have nailed it in my opinion. It is truly a hidden gem and those that book are in for a great time. The family own the Island going back 3 generations and are very talented and entrepreneurial. We enjoyed the great food and warm Scottish hospitality and when we finished our meal we took a walk around the Island. They are very generous and giving people but was alarmed to hear some people pitch up camping or come in for the day and leave there rubbish even not clearing up after their dogs. Will definitely be back and It is on our list of things to book when we visit next year !

My partner's 17th great-grandmother lived in the castle on Inchmurrin, and knowing the ruins were there, he realllllly wanted to see them while on our overseas trip. We were delighted to find that the Inchmurrin Island Restaurant not only offered delicious food (thank you Trip Advisor reviewers), but also transportation to and from the island. Winner! Our experience could not have gone better. Dugald picked us up from the jetty in Arden at 12 noon, and the 15 minute ride to the island was smooth, easy, and picturesque. 3 other couples were on the boat with us, and some were repeat customers, excited to visit again. We ate a really delicious lunch first (great view of the water!), and Dugald, hearing the story of my partner's ancestor, brought out a book from the 1800s of the Lenox family's detailed genealogy. We were delighted to go through it while waiting for our lunch, and afterwards. And Dugald showed us where the key to the castle was displayed in the restaurant, and informed us which path to take to get to the ruins. A truly exceptional lunch (very yum, and good beer selection), and we loved hiking to the ruins of this small castle and exploring. The whole afternoon was an experience we won't soon forget. If we are every again in the area we'll go back.

Inchmurrin is the largest inland island in Britain, and the only one with a pub/hotel. The building is not special but the location is fab. There is a ferry service from Balloch and Luss, but we rowed there in a cornish gig boat. We were a bit late for lunch but the sight of 7 hungry rowers re-opened the kitchen and we all enjoyed a decent lunch and a drink. The food is good, the service was friendly and the price was reasonable.

I arranged to take my husband to this beautiful island as part of his 40th celebration as he had previously mentioned it a few years ago. I am so glad I did this as a surprise as we had a wonderful time. I contacted the hotel directly and they gave us directions where to drive to in order to be collected by a small boat which would take us to the island. This all ran smoothly and we had a great trip over and enjoyed speaking with the guy who took us. He told us about the history of his family from the island and it was very interesting to hear. One of the highlights was being met at the jetty of the island by a very excited old Jack Russell terrier who came running and jumped onto the boat as we arrived. Such a lovely welcome! Seemingly he has done this since he was a puppy and the guy on the boat is his owner. In the hotel, we had a lovely bowl of soup and a steak pie which we enjoyed. I also treated my husband to an Inchmurrin whisky which went down very well! The views from the island are spectacular and I would recommend this for a short day out. We had a nice walk to a small monument on the island too before getting our lift back on the boat. This time, the little dog joined us and fell asleep on the seat next us - he was such a wee delight to meet. We had a great trip from start to finish. Thank you!

We went to the bar via boat at around 4.15pm today to grab some dinner. When we arrived, we were told that food isn't served until 7pm, so we bought some drinks and went a trip around the islands and returned at 5.30pm, in the knowledge we would be waiting an hour and a half before ordering food. We sat down, grabbed some more drinks and at around 6.20pm, asked a waitress to find out if we could order food before 7pm, in the hope it could be served then (our party was starving as we had held out all afternoon to grab food here, I haven't been since in over 10 years and it was a nostalgic moment from when my dad took me out as a youngster). The waitress said she would find out for us. She then walked passed us on numerous occasions, setting up tables. so approximately 15-20 minutes later, I went to the bar to ask for menus, so we could decide what we wanted. I was asked if I had a table booked, I said no I didn't, to which the reply was she couldn't give me a menu as I couldn't get food if a table wasn't booked, as they were fully booked, and had known this from around 2.45pm. Why couldn't any of the staff have let us know this on either the first visit, or when we returned? We were all excited to eat here and this put a complete dampener on our day. Very disappointed.

Although I have been on the loch countless of times, I have never gone ashore at Inchmurrin. I had been told last year about the restaurant on the island and how good it was and so decided to try it out for myself. We arrived late afternoon and had some drinks and was told that dinners would start at seven o clock. The place is lovely and the restaurant overlooks the loch landing slips. After exploring the island we returned for dinner and my goodness were we surprised with a wonderful varied menu. We had a starter and main course which could not be faulted. Believe me my wife is very hard to please at the best of times and she was delighted. Enough to say we will be returning and would have returned next day Tuesday but that is their day off. I was invited to join friends on a day trip to Inchmurrin Island. We went by car heading past the roundabout junction to Balloch and Luss.Heading toward luss, keep your eyes peeled for the only road sign which leads down a very narrow road to the jetty at Arden. There you will be picked up by the ferry service which is run by the island's hotel. Its £5 return.Check times with the ferryman, but don't pay him till he gets you to the other side,Don't worry he doesn't wear a scary hood or have a sickle.Quite a nice chap actually. The 25 minute crossing was the highlight of the day for me.Stunning views all around.A short voyage which lets you see Loch Lomond from a completely different perspective. The hotel restaurant is a rough and ready place,no flash,The menu was quite extensive.Burgers,Chicken Dishes,Battered Haddock etc.I plumped for the steak and ale pie.The steak and gravy was delicious but the pastry was just not right kinda flat and cardboardy(Best I can do) but the Raspberry Pavlova Dessert was a joy indeed. After your lunch you can go for a walk on the nearby beach or if more energetic walk along the track leading along the spine of the island to it's other beach.Time didn't afford me this pleasure on this trip.Prices are affordable for all menu items.Oh! forgot to mention the delicious soup on offer. Two varieties daily. All in all a great dayout for either families or couples.Tip....Do check weather forecast as the ferry is an open boat,Sou'westers at the ready!

Popped in for lunch while out sailing on the loch, and really wish we didn't bother. We ordered the venison burger with brie (£12) and scampi (£10), both with chips. The place was quiet, with what I can only assume to be regulars or family there as they could freely walk into the kitchen or help themselves behind the bar. Lunch came quickly and I immediately wished we'd went to Balmaha. The burger itself was dwarfed by the bun it was in, with a couple bits of lukewarm brie that looked like they where 'sliced' with a chainsaw, and no relish or anything else so it was a bit of a dry affair. The only thing I can say about the scampi is Farmfoods or Iceland budget! Both dishes came with a handful of chips. Best things I can say about the place is fast service and they had cold beer (we only stayed for one so no drunken sailing!)If your out sailing on loch lomond do yourself a favour, go to Balmaha or Rowardennan.

Went here on Friday night for a meal. The lady looking after the running of the restaurant could not have been any nicer. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. We had called ahead earlier in the day and asked if it would be ok to moor our boat there over night. I remember this place when the bar had just a serving hatch and silver service. It has came along with the times. But has not lost its homely feel. You can get a boat to the island from mainland to experience this wonderful place. I will be back with all my family before this week is out it is that good.

Stayed on the Island for a few days and had lunch most days. All the food was excellent but the Pear Sundae Desert was one the best I've ever had.Unbelievable location , so quiet and relaxing and when the weather is good the outdoor area is a great suntrap. Well worth a visit if you are on Loch Lomond.

cracking day to sail over to the island for a wonder around. The £5 return added onto your bill for the ferry trip is worth it to take in the views and relax. We sat outside in the sunshine enjoying a lovely meal - generous portions and would recommend the fish & chips! Nice to spend an afternoon especially if lucky enough to get some sunshine!

We had a lovely trip to the island of Inchmurrin today. You have to phone up and book the ferry and your table for a meal. The ferry price of five pounds return is added to your bill in the restaurant. Views from the restaurant are stunning. Service is extremely pleasant and efficient. The lentil soup for starters was very welcome on a nippy day. Main courses of salmon and haggis(separately) were delicious and accompanied by plenty of vegetables. Puddings were Scottish and Antipodean - Cranachan and Kiwi Pavlova. We had a lovely walk up the hill to help the lunch to settle. The whole experience was lovely - and the dog enjoyed it too.

We went to inchmurrin on monday to celebrate our anniversary. The ferry ride is lovely and although short you really feel like you are doing something different. The menu has something to suit everyone and food is of a good standard but the staffmake the extra effort to chat and get to know you. We loved our wee afternoon on the island and we were even bought a scone with a candle on it by the owners when they found out it was our anniversary. A special memory, which we are going to make a yearly event. Also bought island eggs to bring home which are delicious, a great advert for all thats good about scotland.

The extra effort involves booking ahead and catching the ferry (carries 12), which in my view adds to the pleasure of the experience. The trip is pleasant on all but the windiest of days. The pub is comfortable, with a great view of the loch, and the "pub grub" is very nicely served, good quality and reasonably priced. The wine list is limited but adequate and the service is excellent. It makes for a great day out.

Our first visit to Inchmurrin island and definitely won't be the last.Accessible only by boat or if you're not short of a bob or two, the sea plane, Inchmurrin is a wonderful island situated at the southern end of Loch Lomond. The ferry crossing leaves from Burnfoot, just off the Arden roundabout on the A82 and is booked by phone directly for the 15 minute crossing - leave your car at the free Burnfoot car park. The Island is wonderful, and even better than wonderful on a bright sunny late afternoon like the one which welcomed us on our visit. It really is a great place to explore, even the rough tracks which crisscross the island are signposted to guide you on your way. Once back at the bar/restaurant you can relax and enjoy a decent pint, good food and great company. The restaurant is very comfortable, the food is very good quality, friendly service and at affordable prices - remember this is an island - exclusive - and if you choose your timing carefully - The Island could be yours for the evening or day.Magical - We loved it - views to die for.

A meal on an island situated in a Scottish Loch, sounds romantic and I'm sure it is. Sadly, We were never to have this premise confirmed. Three times we rang and left messages on a machine over several days and on every occasion the owners said that She would get back to us at the earliest opportunity. That opportune moment has not arisen. We even went to the appallingly and insuffiently signposted jetty where the ferry to the island sets sail. Probably. It was very hard to confirm. The signage was really that bad. We looked longingly across the Loch to the beautiful Island, thought of dinner and then drove 10 miles along the Loch side to Duck Bay and had an excellent lunch with great service from people who know how to use a telephone.9/10 for the idea. 0/10 for execution!

My two friends and i visited loch lomond for the first time the other day and were excited to see the sights and get some good wakeboarding time under our belts. We arrived at the slipway at Balloch and registered our boats. They said that Inchmurrin would be an ideal place to camp for the night. So off we went and set up camp, had a set on the water had some food and then took the boat round to the local hotel on the island so we could have a drink. The minute we stepped in we were lectured for not having the appropriate navigational equipment e.g lights (law states if a vessel is under 7m it does not need one) and we continued to get bullied by the owner of the island who kept saying we should have asked him to stay on HIS island even though the park rangers specifically recommended it to us. After that died down we didn't want to stay much longer so we left politely saying thanks to everyone as we walked out the door. Once we got to the boat the pull chord which starts the engine snapped. Now, being on an island in the middle of a loch you would think that some assistance would be greatly appreciated by us. However, the only help we got was from a couple of guys who gave us a shiftier to try and fix the problem. We then sat out on the hotel decking for 6 hours as no one offered to help us and the directions we got given to our tent were wrong, plus the fact it was pouring down with rain and our torch ran out of battery. We then asked the next day if they could tow our boat for us and we got a straight no! We suffered because of our boat breaking which could have happened to anyone, in that case i would have at least offered them something to help them. I would never ever recommend this place to anyone unless you are up for a good bit of slating, and a horrible welcome. I would also like to point out that im not just some idiot who doesn't know what he is doing. I am a commercial skipper on boats with more power than most super cars, with over 6000 hours under my belt just before people start thinking i'm not. Inchmurrin=no!!!

Recently spent time on the idea intending to camp an the north end of the island as guided by the national park rangers who run Loch Lomond all was going well until we took our boat down to the hotel for a few drinks and experiencing engine trouble on the way back we asked for help first we asked for the tools to fix the boat and were met with the feeling of being an inconvenience to the extremely drunk owner after receiving no tools we were advised to walk the 1.5 miles or so to the camp site in the pouring rain and pitch black. We took the decision to turn back to the hotel and seek refuge there, we found the place all locked up and lights off so left outside on the dark and driving rain we phoned inside to which we were told that it was to stay all locked up and if we thought our situation was that bad to dial 999. We ended up holding out for morning where we were told there would be no chance of being towed ashore. Probably for the best as the very drunk owner was also the ferry skipper. Thankfully the park rangers came to our assistance with the tools we needed cannot praise them enough the staff and owner of inchmurrin on the other hand left us out in the rain without the decency to lend us a spanner or let us hire a room for the night would seriously advise you don't visit this place just incase you encounter an emergency during your stay that the islanders turn a blind eye to

I had been to Inchmurrin years ago for dinner and on one sunny evening going over the loch to the island my then boyfriend decided why dont we get married and have the reception in this island. A year later we had it booked.Dorothy helped us with everything, the wedding was fantastic, the setting amazing and the food was out of this world, lovely Scottish Fair.I ripped my wedding dress (it got caught on the toilet door), her staff helped sew it up for me, you wouldnt get that kind of service in a large hotel. My wedding although now 10 years ago was really lovely and I would definately reccomend this as an unusual wedding venue.Sadly my marriage has now ended but my daughter has never been over to inchmurrin, but we are absolutely going to try to get over there this summer.Highly recommended, no place quite like this.

I have been going to this island for dinner for many years and any time I have visitors staying with me I make sure to take them here for dinner. The evening starts with a short trip by boat across Loch Lomond to the island and then its like visiting your favourite aunt and uncle. Mr and Mrs Scott make you feel so welcome and if you are in the market for a new kilt Mrs Scott's daughter in law is an accomplished kilt maker. Food is excellent, well cooked and service is immaculate, you never have to wait for anything and nothing is too much bother. I took a Vegan visitor there once but Mrs Scott managed to make up an excellent meal for her, without any warning beforehand. This remains my very favourite Scottish restaurant of all time.

We sailed the short journey to from Balloch to Inchmurrin Island for lunch and tied up the boat at the hotel's jetty. Although the family run restaurant and bar is dated, it is comfortable and welcoming and has the charm of a place which has remained bravely unaffected by the passing of time. Photographs on the walls of the lounge bar depict interesting and important moments in the history of the island and its owners. The island itself has walks, a farm and a ruined castle which adds to the excitement of being off the beaten track. The restaurant/bar staff are friendly and welcoming and the menu is well-balanced with a Scottish flair. We ate in the dining room which has wonderful views of the loch. Much of the food is produced on the island farm and is of very high quality. We chose home made soup followed by scampi and chips. Both were very good. The character and island location of the restaurant and focus on home produce make this well worth a visit. The restaurant also runs a ferry service from Arden to the island. However, the restaurant does close for the winter, so best check with the owners in advance. Really looking forward to going back next summer.

We have long been visitors to Inchmurrin Island and have always enjoyed the food and hospitality on offer. That fact it can only be reached by boat (your own or there is a ferry) seems to make the visit very special. It has become a regular for us and one that all the family, young and old thoroughly enjoy. Dorothy and the rest of the Scott family who run the hotel (and own the Island) cant be more helpful. If you find yourself anywhere near to Loch Lomond, get yourself on a boat and across to Inchmurrin. You wont regret it!
