Imperial Lounge and Restaurant in Croydon

Service was very poor and charged service charges without even mentioning on the menu.

A couple of weeks after clearing my test and buying a car, we went to Imperial to celebrate with family and we had a pleasent evening together. Its easy to get to if you spot the right / left turns crossing through the main road and there are 2-3 rows of parking slots which felt generous. The interior resembles a proper posh hall with high ceilings and dim lights. Focus lights ensure you have plenty of light to look around even in night time. Menu seems full of oriental and north indian dishes. Tum yok paneer was nice as well as decent portion jhol momos and singapore fried rice this time. Overall both cuisines were very yummy and our son who doesnt even touch spicy food had his tummy full. The desserts are lovely to end it as well. Particularly easy on the pocket if you order oriental dishes. Thanks for a wonderful time for my family

Nice location and room. Interesting mix of Chinese and Indian food. Food was quite tasty. Service was poor, prices are too high for the quality of food and service, and they add 10% service charge by default

Excellent standard for cleanliness. Over restaurant and bar. In fact I was so impressed I ordered some food. Which incidentally I wasn't going to but quickly changed my mind after the first drink. If I had to say anything the tikka masala was a bit too spicy for me but very good all the same. Very impressed. If I come back over here I will put this place down as a good restaurant and will visit again. THANKS GUYS

It was my Son's birthday and we booked it for dinner. The lady who greeted us and made sure we had booked was very rude, had some attitude and was not very welcoming. After ordering the starters we were repeatedly asked to order the Main course straight away. The drinks were served after 10 minutes of starters being served. The food had too many artificial colours and excessive oil. The food was very spicy. I would not recommend this place any more. The restaurant is not the same as it was a few years ago.

Meet took good care of us. Been going here for years for the rich and authentic Indian dishes. Also tried weekday lunch which is a great option.

Been here a few times with the family. The food is amazing, the ambience is pretty cool and the service is wonderful.

Absolutely loved the food...everything was delicious!Highly recommend the lamb chops, chicken momos and egg fried rice...virgin coolers were really tasty..specially the ones with blackberries!

Arrived at 6.15pm First ones in the restaurant. 7.50pm and still no main course....lots of sorry its coming whilst we watched wave after wave of takeaway orders going out of the door. I suggest you just order a takeaway that seems to be the priority not the customers in the restaurant. Terrible experience.

Superb food and service - will be back

We are regulars here from last 5-6 years! This is an indo Chinese restaurant and the flavours get you back to Mumbai. Nice ambience and lot of memories here…keep it going & keep feeding 😁

Let down by poor service and average food. Several dishes came late and no apology. If we were not sharing dishes someone would have had an empty plate. Struggle to find a reason to come back. So many better places. Suggest management needs to get a grip urgently to build reputation back.

Went there with the intent to get a few drinks before a dinner reservation elsewhere. Despite requesting the status of our drinks several times, it is only after an hour that they finally came with the intent to serve us the drinks but it was too late by then. Staff member did not apologise or offer the drinks for free. As a local business, they need to do so much better, incredibly disappointing.

Food that was ordered, had mixed peppers that had gone bad and left a bad aftertaste That was the chilli chicken The kung pao was bathed in ketchup and then some soy sauce like a chicken 65 gone completely wrong with some broken bits of cashew. Chicken was coated and soggy. V little chicken This I think is because we asked for it to be mild so they hadn’t reduced the excess of sauce they would put. We couldn’t eat it The Singapore noodles had the same aftertaste that either the curry sauce they use to season it had gone bad and also the peppers When we told the waiter he said he has been working there full time for a long time and that should imply there is nothing wrong with the food. What a waste of money

When mains were finished we were rushed for dessert or bill. ⏰ As soon as the bill was paid we were ushered off the table(politely). 🥘The majority of food was spot on. The chicken lolipop, a favourite was a bit off with half cooked masala 🍗 Original review: Unreliable 🚪. Closed for private party on Month end Saturday evening 🤦. I'm occasional visitor and seen consistence in service and food. Free parking just opposite to restaurant main door. This is NOT a curry house where you get those varities of sugared up curries instead you get well flavoured food. I recommend chicken lollipop and garlic and pepper prawns.

We went there only for the taste of Indo-chinese, so that's what my review is based on. If you are like me whose taste buds are more accustomed to Pak-chinese cuisine then unfortunately this restaurant isn't for you. Coz the food was either too spicy, too salty and definitely too oily. Even the hot and sour soup had a big dollop of chilli oil on top of it. Schezuan Fish, chilli Chicken even poppadoms were disappointing. The only thing that wasn't too bad was Schezuan Momos. However, the restaurant itself is nice, perfect location, great ambience.

Excellent place, great food and friendly staff

Gone are the days of glory for this restaurant. Food quality and service is in the decline, but prices keep increasing. After 8 odd years, the place is thoroughly tired just like the staff.

Food was ok and the service was terrible! The service was so bad, we refused to pay the service charge as we didn’t get a service! I’m sorry to say this but it’s the worst place I’ve dined in a while.

Food was good. Service was poor. We didn’t get a few dishes we had ordered. When one of the dishes came out late the manager didn’t even apologise or give it to us as complimentary. Bit disappointing having waited so long. Starters are pricey. Food was very hot. We can take relative heat but not as hot as what the starters came out with. We had asked for medium to hot spicy. We asked for our mains to have less heat

Went as work do was held here thinking of going with just myself and partner on date night

We went to a group of 6. The food was good service did not meet our expectations. We are a regular customer of Grange Wallington. We want to try a different place this time. We chose Imperial. But the staff was too busy with their arrangement. Customer service was not there. No personal touch was there. Even though I we recommend to our friend to book it next week. Because the food was good.

Avoid this place and find a better place!!! We are very disappointed after having a party there. We will never go back or recommend this place. Poor service, poorly maintained unhygienic and unclean premises including toilets and doors.

I would easily put this in my top 10 Indian restaurants. The taste to spice was perfect, portions sizes just right, and great service to top it off. I will recommend it to my friends/colleagues.

The food here is incredible. Perfect balance between spicy and flavourful. 1/3 chillies reads as if it won’t be hot but it is. One of the best curries I’ve ever had and I’ve had a fair few.

Horrible oily food. We are from India here in Sutton for a short stay. Went to the place for a nice dinner. But never expected such a tasteless oily food. You can get a better dinner anywhere in India.

Celebrated my birthday here with family and friends. Umesh was excellent to plan and execute this for our guests. Kunj was so welcoming to our guests and made everyone feel comfortable and cared for . Would highly recommended Imperial for events. Excellent food and service. Sorry for late review .

Food quality good. Very well mannered staff. Quite a busy place. Seems like the staff want to rush you out of the restaurant, though, not the first time this has happened. Will be ordered in from now!!

I was really looking forward to this meal and booked for 14 of us. From the moment we arrived, the service was incredibly impersonal, no energy, not even a smile. Despite the restaurant being near on empty, the few workers on were clearly overwhelmed, I lost count of how many times I had to ask for basics such as water for the table and once we were finished with our starters, I grabbed everyone's plates to stack them as I was personally embarrassed. Drinks took an age to come and chasing felt awkward, it was as if ordering more was putting them out, I'm sorry to say it but everyone here has no idea how to deliver a good service, only the Chef I passed was happy and friendly. The bathrooms are not acceptable, the owners clearly need to invest some money and finally, onto the food, I'd say average at best. The food isn't made with any passion and who's ever experienced poppadoms which were clearly shop bought out of a crisp packet, it's all such a shame as I had high expectations.

Excellent restaurant for good Indo Chinese and Indian cuisine. Even couple of cocktails are wonderful. We have been very impressed on every visit. Staff is very courteous and ambience is fantastic. It also has a sports bar area with Indian style pub food.

One of the finest Indian restaurants. Indo Chinese food is amazing as well. The staff were very proactive and provided a prompt and efficient service.

The place looks nice but the food is absolutely disgusting atrocious ngl. Both the chinese and indian food I’ve had was probably the worst I’ve ever eaten. The average take-away chinese place around the corner is a thousand times better than this horse poo. Even the drinks tasted disgusting somehow. So overpriced for some dogs* food- don’t come here unless you love wasting your money and eating disappointing, lacklustre, and underflavoured food.

Ate here a couple days back and ever since have felt very sick with a painful stomach, and have to attend a doctors appointment soon. The meat was clearly off and undercooked while eating, and just tasted plain disgusting. Would not recommend this place to anyone - its overpriced and disappointing.

Great food and friendly atmosphere

The service at this place is the worst we have experienced. We didn't feel welcomed at all and it felt as though they wanted us to finish eating and leave the place quickly. The person who took our orders(was not in uniform like other servers, maybe was one of the managers) was very rude the way he spoke. Also, one of us had a tummy bug after eating the food here. We chose this restaurant over others mainly because its open until 11 pm; if not, we have much better restaurants to go to. We won't be going here again and won't recommend it to others either.

Really nice food. We ordered pani puri, samosa, halkanoodles etc. It was yummy and place is worth visiting.

Restaurant was cold seating was not comfortable ..its not value for money and biryani was off..they dont even give you towels after meal .. and no chocolate in the end... staff were not polite ...

Excellent food and great service. The starters are outstanding, and the main courses are pretty good. Especially enjoyed the Chow Chu Cauliflower, the Chicken Tikka and the Tai Pai Prawns. I would heartily recommend a visit. We've visited a dozen times now and the food on each visit has been excellent. Our last visit was Mother's Day 2022, at which we were served a limited but great menu; and once again the food was excellent 👌.

We had Goats curry and it was delicious. The prices are very reasonable and the restaurant was very busy on a Saturday evening, hence the not so quick service, but still good and very friendly. The restaurant itself is one big room and not the brightest lighting. Still works. We will definitely come back for another meal.

Visited once as a pair and found the food excellent but service slow, put that down to it being a quiet weekday. Thought I'd go back on a Saturday with 3 adults and 1 child. After being seated, it took over 20 mins to be acknowledged, let alone offered drinks. My nephew was quite hungry; therefore it was disappointing when the starters took over 45 mins to arrive. The waiters are all over the place. When waiting for the food, one waiter came over showing us the 'thumbs up' as if to ask how our meal was only to realise we hadn't even received our mains.. only poppadoms. Even getting someones attention to settle the bill took ages. Not great service overall but the food was decent.

Rejevunated memories of India . The taste was fabulous gobi Manchurian and paneer chilly was spot on . I am gono visit again and try other variety . So far best and authentic food

I've been here many times before but last week was a terrible experience. Service was horrid, we waiting over an hour and a half for our food. Each time we asked the staff, we were met with a '5 more minutes' answer. Mangement didn't seem to care and we left without finishing our meal.

Good food, good place to eat, recommend, and may go over again, next time in Croydon. Would appreciate slightly better seating arrangements.

Great Indian food, very authentic. The place is massive and when we went there were at least 4 birthday parties going on and one maim event, in another hall. Managing so many customers is a task. Though the place was noisy, as it was packed, the food was awesome. The staff were friendly too. But the service could have been faster. Go there if you crave for authentic Indian food and have time to spare.

The food at restaurant has amazing taste. Staff is extremely nice. However, the restaurant is now extremely take away focused and didn't pay attention to guest sitting in restaurants.. along with us many other table waited 45 minutes for food but it took longer. We went empty stomach. Not looking to come back again... extremely sad to know tht this was service today...

Had lunch for my birthday today. The food was delicious, especially the Indo Chinese. The quantity was a lot and we had 5-6 things parcelled at the end! The service by Preet was heartwarming and we left feeling full literally and figuratively. He was very attentive and his food recommendations were really thoughtful. Thank you!

Very good curry place. Had a chicken Jalfreezy. Very Hot but also unbelievably tasty.

Great food, friendly staff. We usually prefer the Indianised Chinese food options. Definitely try the chicken schzewan wontons. Yum yum! Update from yesterday: chicken lollipops now more batter than chicken. Disappointing.

Small portions of rice no salad no papadom 2 tiny sauce pots. Lamb karahi 15 pounds almost all sauce and tons of onions very little meat. Crispy garlic prawns at £16 soggy. Defo not worth the takeaway price. Go on site maybe.

Beautiful venue and tasty food.

It's located just outside the hastle and bustle of the city with plenty of parking. I have only 3 stars because the owners are getting upto speed with the new norm and need to improve on their customer service. But with good feedback from the customers could provide the owners on ideas of where the improvements are necessary. Authentic Indian cuisine restaurant, add the historic building, is a must. Parking is a hit and miss outside, needs more clarification. We had lamb and all 3 dishes were very tasty.

The place's nice for family's dinner. The taste was good. My cousin had biryani and she said the flavour was too strong. I ordered kung pao chicken. It was good but could be better. Plus, the waitress regularly checking on us and the food, which is good. Minus, it takes too long get our food served.

Went there last week Saturday with family. The starters were amazing, but the mains were disappointing. Two of the main dishes were a little too salty. We did speak to the waiter who offered to change them. The service with drinks was really slow. We were halfway through the starters before drinks arrived.

Use to come here years ago, but then management removed some of our favourite dishes and stopped going. But found they brought a few dishes back on to the menu and decided to visit with a few pals. The oriental starters are much better than the Indian ones and the shredded chilli lamb is a must. The only joke now is that they have proper hiked the prices up (£5 for a roomali roti which is a paper thin naan uses a lot less flour) and £30 for a mixed grill that was flavourless and for the £30 you didn't get a lot, you're better off choosing multiple Starters instead of the mix grill, individual starters were of good quantity. Service is a little slow, it was at full capacity with only 3 waiters serving and drinks were taking a while to come, starters had even come out before drinks. Don't get butter chicken as a main, it was more chicken in tomato soup. Key takeaways from this review -Prices have gone up extortionately - service is little slow - Oriental starters and main lot better than Indian stuff.

I tried it for the first time and I did love the food. IndoChinese options are extremely good and tasty. I tried a couple of starters and then a Chinese mains and North Indian main course too. I will definitely go back again.

Food tastes great, but service sucks 😒😒which is the main reason for my rating. And also staff behaviour they are not well trained .very very disappointed for staff service . I gave 1 star for food.

I have eaten here on several occasions and every time has been outstanding, the staff are friendly and attentive and nothing is too much trouble for them, the food is outstanding every single time, proper quality Indian cooking that tastes sooo good. I'm very particular when it comes to restraunts and food, and I can whole heartedly recommend this place to anyone that wants a really lovely meal out. The last time I went we had a birthday party and the staff were truly amazing going the extra mile to make sure it was a special occasion, and everyone commented on how good the food was. Food at this place was okay, wasn't the best indo fusion food I've ever had but it was still decent. I believe all the meat is Halal which is great but at the same time the restaurant isn't anything special and the décor could've been a bit nicer. Staff were nice and friendly but given the extortionate prices for the food, it's really not worth it. I probably won't be going back anytime soon but I guess it's a decent place to go if you want this particular cuisine and don't want to go further into London.

Great food, the curry lamb is a must eat, and nice cocktails. The atmosphere and surroundings are nice. Staff are alright and do their best, but they are only human so mistakes or miscommunication is expected. Unfortunately, the loo is quite underwhelming, faulty extractor fan, barely flushing urinals, and a non-functional hand dryer. Would visit again for the food.

Awesome place for authentic Indo Chinese cuisine. This is closest to Indo Chinese food that one gets in India. The ambience and the overall setting is perfect for special occasions. Highly recommended.

Very poor service and slow ,first 20 minutes no body came then another 30 minutes for drinks, food was salty, ordered for coffee but it never came but added in price

The food and service was excellent. From start to finish every item of food ordered was made to perfection. Staff and management paid attention to detail of our every requirement. The atmosphere and food took me back to the best restaurants I have visited in India. I had travelled over 4 hours away and inevitably traffic delays meant that I was unable to make my booking on time. Management were easy to contact and were really helpful. I have a family of very picky eaters and I rarely find that everyone is happy with one particular place. However this is one of those places where each of us were extremely happy with every item that was ordered. The exhausting drive was made worthwhile. Family and i can't wait to come again.
