Lovely Family owned friendly restaurant fantastic staff

We have been meaning to go to Imperial China for a long time, and finally on a sunny Sunday went for lunch. The first impression was of a beautiful room, such that I immediately felt "I want to spend time here" .High ceilinged, on a corner with many windows to allow light to flood in. Exceptionally well chosen colour scheme (no flock paper or garish landscapes of the Gorges of the Yellow River). The tables with bright white napery and sparkling glasses. Something about the table arrangement that makes it seem intimate - except probably the traditional large round tables for joyous culinary celebrations in the centre. Absolutely delightful service and delicious, seriously delicious food. The large menu is classic Cantonese - I didn't notice any other regional dishes - cooked to perfection. Total happiness, and I shall come back again and again, maybe even simply pop in for some Dim Sum. Thank you!

Awful Szechuan chicken with Egg fried rice which seemed to have added extras - weird hairs! Disputed very rudely, when challenged, by the head waiter. I was pulling out bits from my mouth whilst my family watched, i can assure everyone I know the difference between strands of egg and hairs, I pulled them out of my mouth like you would a hair. This rude man tried to tell me I was pulling out egg!!! As for the chicken, it wasn’t nice, hardly any spice to the sauce, Szechuan has always been my favourite dish so very very disappointed, to make matters worse, the food served to me was warm not hot, I did eat some as I was hungry. I Will never eat there again on principle

This is the first restaurant we saw, the staff were very welcoming and attentive. The restaurant has very lovely decor. The food was amazing! Highly recommend.

Updating after our recent visit. Prices are astronomical now. Paid £33/person for their second cheapest set menu. For what you get, that's mental. Also have too many staff. I can fill my glass myself thank you. Way to get your guests to spend even more. Sad to say, probably won't be back for some time, if at all. Had a lovely meal. Good wine and the food was excellent. On the pricey side otherwise I'd give 5 stars

Good Chinese restaurant but the food was a bit bland I have crispy chilli beef but didn't taste the chilli, the spare ribs were lovely and plenty meat on them,staff are great and friendly we would go back next time in Worthing.

Easily the best restaurant in Worthing. Been coming here for years and the food is outstanding, the fattest prawn toast I have ever had! They do special salt and pepper prawns without heads and tails or batter for our family that I regularly dream of. The service is wonderful, couldn’t do enough to help you and make great recommendations.

Proper Restaurant with great food, all the family were very impressed, service the way it should be!. Plenty of professional attentive staff who are not pushy, they don't rush you. This is not a fast food establishment with loads of pre cooked food, your food will be properly served at your table when it is cooked, how long depends on your order You will probably need to book, we were there on a Saturday night and every table was pre-booked. Certainly a restaurant we will revisit soon

Thought we'd treat ourselves and give this restaurant a go after reading so many positive comments. Alas very disappointed. Staff were very polite and attentive but the food was nothing special. The mixed starter was £10 each but had no flavour, nothing was seasoned at all,so underwhelming.

Great food, not greasy, excellent communication the restaurant dealt with my message backwards and forwards very quickly, nothing was a bother. They seated walks in very quickly, food service was great & fast all the food was hot. Great staff.

Wow what a fantastic experience. I couldn't fault it at all. Food hot ,tasty and plenty of it. This was the Christmas menu. Such a good selection I can't praise them enough. The service exceptionally the staff so polite and nothing was too much trouble. If you can get in please go you won't be disappointed.

Best Chinese in town. The sesame prawn toasts are the best ever, these stood out for us as they're packed with prawn and clearly homemade. A massive range of things on the menu to choose from and always perfectly cooked and presented. Staff are friendly and attentive, and the owner (John) is a true gent.

Excellent place to eat, the staff are very good and efficient, and the food is absolutely delicious, no matter how busy they are you will always get great service. Highly recommend this Chinese for any occasion.

I have just had my best dining experience. Went for a Birthday treat with a friend (his birthday, not mine), so due to time of year was the Xmas menu. Service was perfect for me. Attentive but not intrusive. The maître d' is a smartie. The banter was perfect, and welcomed. Portions for each course were ample and quality exquisite. I need to stop now as I am salivating about my next visit. *****

Great food great service friendly staff

Absolutely the best restaurant bar none!

Had to write a review for this amazing place. The service from first phone call was perfect. The immaculate waiting staff, the table settings, the decor were reminiscent of top class restaurant of yester-year. And then the food, beautifully presented and so tasty. We were down from London for the night and I wish it were nearer so we could come again next week. There were many people coming in to collect a take away and although it was 6 when we sat down, it got busy. I don't know when we were last looked after so well, this is the sort of thing that is impossible to find in London now.

So we came down for the weekend, staying around the corner and stumbled up on the restaurant. Decided to have dinner in, and what a great decision that was. Staff were friendly, efficient, genuinely pleased to have you dining in. Food was delicious, tasty and just the right amount. We had the set menu C which was lovely. The price was on par with dining in (as opposed to takeaway) with drinks also not overly inflated either. Had a really pleasant evening. My Girlfriend really enjoyed the food too as Chinese isn’t her favourite. 5*

This was our first visit to Imperial China as we have just moved to Worthing. We had the set meal for two at £29 which was excellent and very generous portions. The staff were attentive and friendly. The house rose was great value and very nice. All in all it was a lovely dinner. Next time we won't eat quite so much as we were very full!

Nice location easy to get to spacious restaurant .eaten there before but we were dis appointed with a couple of the dishes . Sadly we won’t return . Expensive as well . A very loud group also spoiled the evening couldn’t hear ourselves think let alone talk !

Had some disappointing Chinese takeaways in Worthing. The Imperial China doesn't deliver, however we were able to collect. Not the cheapest meal, however the taste and quality were excellent. We had prawns, chicken, lamb etc dishes which were all excellent. Definitely going to eat in the restaurant soon. Top notch!

By far the best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. Pity I don't live here but will recommend it to friends & family who do.

Best Chinese in Worthing both take out and restaurant !

This is an excellent Chinese restaurant. The restaurant itself is quite elegant and offers a very large dining area. Nice table settings also. The food is equally good, some of the best Chinese food I have has in either the UK or US. The staff are super helpful, and indicative of the quality of the restaurant, the staff have been with the restaurant for a significant number of years.

As always. Good food. Great atmosphere. Staff are very helpful, friendly and polite. Has all the hallmarks of an upscale restaurant without the overly exorbitant prices.

Lovely restaurant, a real gem, quite old fashioned, good value Chinese restaurant, with very efficient and friendly service.

The food we ordered was some chowmeins specifically takeaway, chicken chow mein and a chicken Thai style chowmein the issue was the food was supposed to be spicy but wasn't, and the chowmeins had no actual meat in it, The Thai chicken stated chicken on the menu but no chicken was put in the chowmein plus the food had no taste absolutely devestated by this experience keeping in mind this is our first time, I wouldn't recommend people going if they expecting high qualities

Shocking service, waited 30 minutes between courses even after asking several times where is our food. Ended up taking main course as takeaway! Food excellent though so such a shame service destroyed our evening.

We looked at reviews for this restaurant and they weren't the best, however from the outside it looked better than the reviews. The service was excellent from the moment we walked through the door and the food was some of the best we have had. Take other people's reviews with a pinch of salt.

This has always been one of our favourite restaurants, but due to the pandemic and the horrendous road works on the A259 we haven't visited for almost three years, so we wondered if anything had changed. We didn't need to be concerned, the Imperial China is just as good as it has always been, it just oozes quality the moment you walk through the door. The staff are so incredibly friendly and welcoming and are amazingly efficient everything is just perfect. The food is superb, the biggest problem we have is deciding what to select as the menu is so big and tempting. Unfortunately we have a 40 minute drive to reach this restaurant, but it is well worth the effort, we look forward to our next visit.

Mixed up my orders. Ordered for the beef and mixed veggies sauce. Got this beef thing with zero sauce. The chow mein is bland and too dry. No cutlery in the package, like am I supposed to eat with my hands? I’m not impressed at all. Ps: I had to go beg for the cutlery in the pictures

This is a very traditional Chinese restaurant, beautifully decorated. The menu is extensive with a full range of interesting set meals along with a full al a crate menu. Portions are generous and the food was freshly cooked and delicious Plenty of helpful friendly staff....

The manager, a man of few words, clearly has some type of psychological problem, and should see a medical professional at his earliest convenience. After confronting the man about his inaccurate, opening hours, he then demonstrated incredibly threatening behaviour. The advertised hours were not at all in keeping with the hours at the restaurant itself and the manager so was incredibly threatening and rude that members of our party were in fear for their very lives. As advice, go anywhere else in Worthing, and don’t fund these rude gangsters.

Just amazing service, clean restaurant and superb food. Can’t rate this place highly enough. We had set menu C on a Sunday night and loved every second of it. Great staff, big restaurant and just bang on good. What a restaurant should be. Recommended.

We had a warm welcome by the staff who were very efficient and attentive all evening. The food was absolutely delicious and it’s by far one of the best Chinese restaurants in Sussex and well worth a visit if you love Chinese food.

Sorry, nine friends and I had a great meal here, the food and service were excellent ... until we were told we had been unpleasant, too noisy and too rude for their other customers. Good riddance! I was brought up in a strict religious and military family and whilst we may have been a little loud we were in NO WAY disrespectful. We even added a voluntary 10% tip to the bill! Sort your staff out Imperial!!! They are dragging you down. We will NOT be back. Thanks for great food and NO thanks for the negative and inaccurate departing from your staff. Good bye.

The best Chinese food in worthing, and probably in Sussex. Every single dish is delicate and beautiful. They take real care over everything. Food is excellent and service too

We went there for the second time in the last year. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was very nice and tasty and plentiful.We all enjoyed our visit.

4 of us went here on Friday 31st March. A lovely restaurant and the staff are VERY attentive from the second you walk through the door. This is not a place for takeaway style Chinese so you do pay more but it is worth it. The food is so so good and the portion sizes are perfect. Service is quick but you do not feel rushed. Would definitely return!

If you love Chinese food, then you MUST go to Imperial China! The food was delicious, an amazing menu to choose from. And the service was absolutely impeccable. 10 out of 10 all the way!

Very attentive staff but food was poor. Lacked taste; seafood platter was bland with too much batter and too much deep frying. Special fried rice was not special but soggy with a little egg or taste and the beef mains was way to sweet.

Had a special dinner here with friends this evening and everything was wonderful - delicious food and great service. We love the round tables, much easier to share dishes.

Good food But I still dont undestand why the waiter dont want to give the milk to my friend for his chinese tea . And he asked me with arogance "You put the milk in the chineese tea you " We asked twice but the milk never came .

We just had traditional fare, but it was top-notch. Everything seemed really fresh, and the big test - the little prawns in the Singapore Noddles - were faultless. We went on a weekday lunchtime and there were plenty of people to make the ambience good....

Great selection of food. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. You can actually taste the different flavours in each dish. A sheet taste buds delight.

My 75th birthday party BRILLIANT.

I’ve visited this restaurant several times through 2022; the most recent being today for my birthday. Wonderful service and most importantly better Chinese food than I’ve ever had, any where else. I will continue to go back, hopefully for many years to come.

An absolute gem of a Chinese restaurant, the food is seriously, seriously good and the hosts are lovely, always make you feel so welcome and look after you. Would highly recommend, I’ve eaten here a several times as stay in Worthing for work regularly.

Absolutely delicious. Every dish was incredible. Haven’t had Chinese food like this in years. The icing on the cake was my mate paid. Quality staff to go with this meal aswell. Hope to be back soon.

The food and the service were great. Really tasty, good portions, and the staff went out of their way to provide an attentive and friendly service, but not too overbearing. I would say that perhaps the ambience could have been a little cosier - lower lighting, perhaps? That would have worked well with the opulent decor. My other half and I had a great time, though, and would certainly go back!

Foods were excellent with reasonable price and staff were very friendly that they introduced appropriate dishes for our family. Very clean areas including the toilets that there was music in it. Feeling relaxed and enjoyable dinning there. Will be back again for sure. Highly recommended!
