Il Capitano Italian Restaurant in Mole Valley

We were there for lunch today. The restaurant was entirely empty except for 1 other table. We waited 30 minutes for order to be taken and then 2 hours for the mains to arrive. The tomatoe soup tasted like microwaved pasta sauce from a can. The mains were not tasty at all. The wine was ok but not worth the £195 we spent for a lunch for 3. The manager said the chef was new but clearly the set up is not working.

Great food and service; will go again.

Our meal was spoilt by burnt pizza bases, hence the low score (but not charged for pizzas). Will probably try again but cannot yet recommend.

Incredible food, totally surpassed my expectations. I really didn’t think Italian food could be this good outside of Italy, let alone on Leatherhead high street. The owner Giovanni is a wonderful host and provides excellent service. I would totally recommend this restaurant and I see why people travel from far and wide to come here, it’s no wonder it has stood the test of time. We feel pretty lucky to have access to such good food on our local high street, shame we left it so long before trying it out. Thank you for your hospitality.

Best Italian in Leatherhead! Amazing food and service. Pastas were great and pizzas were to die for. Services was very good considering it was a big group of us. This was the second time visiting and I will be back soon.

Pizza oven broke while making it, which is bad luck, but….salad had bugs in it, which my sister only saw at the end of the meal. Sainsburys salad leaves not washed properly (direct quote) such a huge shame as the pasta and beer were lovely at that point. Walked out!!

We come here regularly as locals and have previously never had much of an issue (minus slow service). Today we took our whole family for lunch for my husbands birthday including siblings, parents, 2 young children etc. first we get told the pizza oven is broken after we have all ordered pizzas, which probably couldn’t be helped. I ordered their chicken salad which I’ve had previously and was good but this time it tasted and smelt a bit off - I picked at it a bit and then eventually gave up. I then suddenly noticed at least 3 maggot looking insects crawling around in my bowl - it was totally repulsive and I felt sick to my stomach. The owner did apologise but did not take responsibility and blamed the local supermarket for not washing their salad. We walked out and left and will never be returning. We all feel repulsed and shocked by the experience and it ruined our entire day.

Such a shame. Just tried to call to ask about supporting a small business enquiring about a raffle prize. Was cut very short. Shame a small community company didnt want to help a fellow one when offering to spend money on a dining voucher just asked for a small discount. Lost out on a lot of social media coverage.

I can’t understand why this restaurant has any 5 star reviews. Get comfy, this may be a long one. We walked in and was met by an extremely intoxicated male (which i’ve now learnt is the owner). Obviously we didn’t know this at first, assumed he was full of charisma and just wanted to be friendly. He took our drink order as one would. I asked for a glass of pinot and somehow ended up with two. He laughed and said ‘guess this is mine now!’. We chuckled with little knowledge of what kind of experience we were about to have. Our starters came, they were decent. My partner had ordered scallops and you could imagine the delight on his face when he was greeted with 2 bite sized pieces. My partner’s dad asked for some parmesan on his starter. Made the joke he’d love the whole thing. The owner then proceeded to dump the whole thing on his plate. He took the joke quite literal. Our mains arrived. One ended up on the table. The drunk owner managed to plop a whole calzone in front of us, with the sauce spraying all over my partner’s top. With 5 pretty shocked faces, he then picked up the sauce with his fingers and placed it back on top of the calzone. With no apology, he took it back inside. He then waited about 2 minutes, brought it back out with half a tub of rosemary as an attempt to cover up the mess and tried to give the calzone he had dropped on the table previously BACK TO MY PARTNER. Once confronted, he asked if we wanted black pepper - yes you’ve read that correct - no apology and ignored the fact he had just brought out a second hand calzone. Every now and then i’d look up and meet his eyes, staring at us through the glass that separated the inside and outside of the restaurant. I thought it would be a one off but was terrified to look back and see him still staring. He seemed shocked someone was eating there, that or he had seen a ghost. After scoffing a whole spaghetti dish and pizza 2 tables away from us, he collected our plates. As he stumbled into the distance, we heard a crash. You’d never guess what he had dropped, every single plate. Would 10/10 never recommended this place to anyone. Everyone who worked there seemed fed up of his behaviour. On a brighter side there was a lovely young man there - didn’t catch his name. He was polite and should definitely look elsewhere for employment.

Absolutely delicious food, wonderful relaxing atmosphere. We came as a large group of adults and children and ordered a large variety of meals and all of them were gorgeous, authentic, fresh and full of flavour. The service was exceptionally good, friendly and attentive. Would give more than 5 stars if I could! Please go and enjoy the incredible restaurant!

This used to be good. Tonight might have been the worst meal of my life. There was no one else eating there on a Friday so I guess everyone knew. When we complained they said pay what you want and switched the lights off. It was my wife's birthday. DON'T GO THERE!

Let me start by saying I had to pay £17 for small portion of gluten-free pasta dipped in butter and a couple vegetable shavings 😢😢and they wanted to charge me extra because it was gluten-free 😢😢 The place was huge and nicely decorated, and yes, they do have special offer on for lunch, but if you miss the lunch deals it’s overly priced for the food quality that you get.

What a fabulous night we had on Friday! This was the first time we had dined out at the restaurant and it didn't disappoint! Why why why hadn't we been there before? I think this is now my new favourite place to have a meal! The staff were wonderful, the food absolutely delicious and the live entertainment excellent! We will definitely be back!

Went for 8 year olds birthday meal. He wanted pizza so we picked here. Food was great, plenty to go around and tasted great. Service to notch. The cherry on top was they had a singer in who sang happy birthday to him. A night to remember, thanks L'Ultimo..

Not sure how many times we've been here. The food is better than anything you get in Surrey and the service is brilliant. Some dishes on the menu, like the swordfish carpaccio, are not ones I've seen before or since. Amazing restaurant

I loved the place and the food. The staff were brilliant and the environment in the restaurant is fun and welcoming. We all sang happy birthday for a friend, they put some of our favorite Italian songs... I'll be back to try some of the pizzas and have a good time again! I had carbonara pasta and it was OK, not amazing though. So I would recommend trying some of the other pastas!

Great food, although we did think the grilled veg starter was a little bland.

Had a fantastic meal with a friend here. I very much recommend the gnocchi, it was superb. And the service was lovely too.

Food was very nice, considering it was Valentines night it wasn't very romantic. The music was loud and not sure if it was the owner but he decided it was a good idea to bring out the guitar and sing along ( which really wasn't great). Probably won't go back

Just a real gem in Leatherhead, not your average Italian, freshly prepared, home style cooking, have visited twice on two weeks and will be back. It's very very well priced for midweek lunchtime.

Delicious food and excellent service.

The Service is horrible, went there and they mixed up the bill twice on top of that I asked for gluten free pasta or pizza at the beginning they said they do gluten free pizzas but then came back and said they don't so I said what is gluten free so I ordered a pasta Bolognese supposely gluten free. They came back with a lasagne and then after everyone was nearly finished eating they brought the pasta said that it was gluten free but it clearly was not you can tell difference between gluten free pasta's and non gluten pasta , I couldn't finish it because gluten gives me allergies and does not sit well. So if anyone has any allergies I do not recommend going here because you never know what the food may contain

Food and drink were good however they made a couple of errors with our order including me ending up with the wrong main dish. Would normally expect to be offered a reduction in the bill or a free desert / coffee for that but we still charged full price. Starters were very small for the price as well. For the price, expected a bit better service tbh!

Lovely atmosphere that quite literally feels like it transports you away on holiday. The food is good and well done, and the staff are attentive and helpful.

Enjoyed a very pleasant evening meal here tonight. The service was exceptional, very attentive and helpful, great menu and the food was excellent. We sat outside in the gazebo part which was lovely, heated , was like eating out whilst your on holiday. Highly recommend this place to anyone , you will have a great time great food and great service.

I was disappointed. I didn't book and I showed up at 5 pm with my wife for an early diner. It was empty"ish". We were given until 6.30pm, plenty of time. So far so good. We ordered the largest platter to share (del Cappo) and I followed with a pizza calzone. I ordered that because when we arrived the table next to us was being served pizzas that looked amazing including a calzone that was huge. Well... my calzone arrived and it was half that size and it had very little filling, except in the very middle. I was so annoyed. It didn't meet expectations in the least. I had ordered wine, etc. The platter was nothing special. It doesn't require any effort except slicing salami and ham and a few vegetables. My calzone was just disappointing. Only the canollo was good and crispy. Over £100 for 2 and just an "I am sorry" from the waitress and manager. Not going back

Buy a take away. When i eat one tube, i find it. What do u want to prove ? To prove your restaurant wash pot? Terrible! Throw the first one. OMG! I CAN'T BELIEVE, SECOND ONE! SECOND ONE! What's wrong with your restaurant? Or cus i buy a take away, u don't mind.

It was good, but fish item is too costly, it is not much enough portion for £21.

Very friendly service, food arrived quickly and presentation was lovely. Only slight disappointment was the tiramasu dessert. Was expecting more flavour from an Italian restaurant, couldn't taste any coffee and generally, the portions sizes were small considering the price but couldn't fault anything else and you are definately made to feel welcome even if just stopping by for a coffee or a glass of wine so yes, would recommend this lovely restaurant and welcoming, attentive staff.

Il 15 Agosto 2021,io e la mia amica Abbiamo mangiato al ultimo. Abbiamo preso antipasto della casa. Bruschetta con polipo e crema di fagioli. Panciotti salsiccia melanzane e funghi Tagliolini speak tartufo e funghi. Torta della nonna Cannolo siciliano Prima dell antipasto e stato servito il pane olive, olio e aceto. Pane buono di sapore ma non lievitato bene era molto pesante olive molto buone. Antipasto della casa.e arrivato una mozzarella ricoperta a casaccio da melanzane, peperoni, carciofi & salumi. Mozzarella 0 qualità Salumi ok Verdure grigliate senza sapore. Polipo è arrivato senza bruschetta, in più aveva un odore forte di pesce vecchio. (Era negli speciali del giorno) Abbiamo Richiesto di sostituirlo con le bruschette. Bruschette il pane tagliato talmente alto che era impossibile mangiarle con un morso, poco lievitato quindi molto pesante tostato malissimo diciamo Quasi non tostato,pomodori senza sapore. Panciotti buonissimi la cottura era perfetta e anche il condimento era molto buono. Tagliolini.. penso che abbia visto 5 fettine di porcino qualche pezzo di guanciale e due fette intere di speak… Tartufo… L unico tartufo che c’era in quel piatto era L olio al tartufo infatti I tagliolini erano zuppi d olio. Sinceramente quasi 20 pound per un primo mi sarei aspettata almeno un po’ di tartufo nero grattugiato, sopratutto di questo periodo stagionale il prezzo è molto basso. Dolci Torta della nonna presentazione carina sapore buono, è una torta comprata non fatta da loro. Cannolo la ricotta nel cannolo buonissima. Abbiamo preso oltre questo una bottiglia D acqua e un lattina di limonata. 45 pound a testa. Il punto sta che sinceramente questo pranzo non valeva assolutamente questo costo. I prezzi sono alti per quello che viene servito. Ho pagato gli stessi soldi in un ristorante 3 Rosette 3 course meal e credimi c’è li valeva tutti, anche di più. Cameriere con gli occhiali Molto educato e cortese, non mi ricordo il nome.

Lovely food, fresh and flavoursome but the service was a little slow. We sat outside and seemed to be forgotten about. It won't put me of returning soon as that minor problem is a small price to pay for the food quality. We will be back

Delicious food and a really nice atmosphere. Really good selection of food, I wish we could have tried everything!! The only thing I will say is that I found it a little pricey for the cuisine; mains started at around £20. Maybe Leatherhead is just an expensive area, but £100 for dinner for two people, when we only had one drink each, and no steak, was a bit of a surprise! Like I said though, the food was amazing, would definitely recommend, there was a nice ambiance too, with music and a lovely set-up.

Food was as you’d expect and came quick. But the attentiveness and speed of service was extremely bad under the circumstances: Only a couple of occupied tables in the restaurant, and 2 waiters and a manager walking around, but somehow they managed not to notice that customers may need something. No less than 20 minutes waiting for someone to come and pickup our finished plates, offer deserts or ask if we needed anything, in an almost empty restaurant. While one waiter is doing dishes or something and then going to watch some TV, almost purposefully ignoring customers. Totally, totally unacceptable. I guess this is what you do when the service charge is already included in the bill and you have to pay it for wasting your time. Spoiled the whole day, stay away.

The food is tasty and the staff are very engaged and friendly with some of the tables, which are probably regulars. This place has a very personable feel and gives me the impression that they truly appreciate you being there. The ambience is great,I'd definitely recommend

I was very disappointed in this place. pricelist set for days from Monday to Friday. Valuable some dishes on the weekend 3 times higher and, in addition, the cuisine is really not recommendable. My first visit ended with an inflated bill for a bottle of wine that we had not ordered, the second time one more beer was added. I understand the lockdown pandemic, but to make up for the losses in this way ?!

Had the best night at Lultimo’s. Not only was the food sensational but the owner Giovanni made it feel as though we were at the best party at his house. Never had an experience like it, can’t wait to go back.

Excellent service, exquisite food.

We came to L’Ultimo on Saturday and were lucky enough to book a table on an evening when a fantastic Freddie Mercury tribute was performing. Not many places offer entertainment, great food (and cocktails) anymore but this is one of the few restaurants that does. After the year and a half we have all had, I think we all need a trip to L’Ultimo in Leatherhead to lift our spirits!! Will definitely be returning!

Deafening music. Such a shame, came to have an enjoyable meal with friends and unable to have a conversation because the music was so loud. Will never return.

Food was well done, very very nice but we have now exhausted their menu. We would like to see the menu changed every now and then. Perhaps they cater for the old people who are not willing to experience different foods on a regular basis.

what a great place! a really nice setting, really great staff, the owner is brilliant, the food is very good and if you dine there whilst they have the entertainment is on you will have a great time! weekend evening out dining how it should be!

Started badly that online confirmed booking was not accepted and offered table in unheated section. Waiter appeared friendly and starters arrived promptly and were enjoyable. Evening then went seriously downhill with nearly a 1 hour wait for mains, waiter unable to provide blankets or move us to heated area, forgot to provide a second drink and 2 of the mains when they did arrive were poor quality - seafood soup was extremely salty and veal parmesan was dry and tasteless. Gave up and went home wishing we had stayed home

A really nice lunch...fish, pasta and tomato sauce... delicious

Very good! Good service, good quality produce.Starters: the octopus which was tender and wellcooked. My partner had the king prawn and saffron sauce (the prawns tasted like prawns, sweet and subtle but the sauce too sweet and a but too much on the plate). Mains: the nduja sausage and gnocchi (bold, simple, comforting and good quality) and my partner had the fish stew which was delightful, the fish, muscles, calamari and clams fresh and tender and full of flavour.Dessert: tiramasu - super! Gelato - the pistachio good, mint chocolate and chocolate seemed to go down well with my partner.The house wine was fine and exactly how house should be enjoyable and easily drinkable.Coffee also good.The prices are on the dearer side but the quality and over all experience would not make you fee you had over paid.We shall return

We ordered our take away dinner for 6 last night. As usual the food was brilliant, well done to all the staff for working under such conditions to ensure the restaurant still upholds it hygiene and friendly service. Such an amazing place-a true find in Leatherhead! We visited on a Sunday during COVID-19 tier 2 days as it was my daughter's nameday (in December). There were Christmas decorations making the venue look super-festive. We had spaghetti alle vongole, ossobuco alla milanese, calzone, Italian wine and beer and amazing tiramisu and all were to die for. Service was brilliant, portions very generous and our daughters additionally got haribos and insisted on lollipops which they were offered. The bill was more than reasonable and the experience unforgettable! We are definitely coming back, thank you!

What a great job Giovanni and his team do. Delicious food a good choice of wines and a really entertaining experience. If you want a good night out this is the place to go.

Don't get me wrong, the food was very nice. But, it was not good in covid times. We went on a live music night, and the proprietor was touching random people, getting them up to dance with him, pouring some pudding drink he'd made into random people's mouths, the singer was walking around singing directly to closely spaced tables. When we went up and complained we were shut down telling us that it was a live music night. That doesn't mean you can go and touch random people and ignore any social distancing. He told us our temperature had been checked on the way in (it hadn't) so it seemed that in his mind it was ok. Very dissaponting evening for my mums 60th birthday in the end.

Amazing food, I advise going for lunch or during the week, but maybe not a Friday or Saturday night during this global pandemic. Unfortunately there was live music on when we went for my mum's 60th and this automatically meant the manager was asking people to dance. Great, but definitely not during a global pandemic. No social distancing was adhered to, there was no request to wear a mask when in the restaurant, just a sign outside, and this meant people were walking around between tables, not more than 1m apart, without masks on. The singer was very loud which meant we had to shout at each other across the table. The managers were wearing masks, but not that covered their noses, and not once did we see anyone wash their hands between tables. When we approached the subject with the managers they seemed to brush it under the carpet and said they advertised it was live music (not our issue but they didn't seem to get the whole covid pandemic situation). The food, excellent, I suggest the Gnocci, and the sharing antipasti. Unfortunately we didn't have time to try puddings, mainly because we wanted to get out of covids way... Another issue was the sharing of a drink/dessert from the same container which just shocked us at this current time. I dont think I would return on the basis of the covid safety measures and the management.

Myself, wife and 2 young kids had takeaway food tonight whilst staying at the Travelodge across the road and it was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and offered the kids free drinks and sweets while I waited, I wish I was local to here and it would become a new regular!

Waited over an hour and a half, still no food. Paid for the drinks and left. It's taken 14 years of living down the road to finally try here rather Pizza Firenze - will stick to the old reliable in future.

Went here last week for a family meal. Food is amazing! We are Italian and can safely say the pasta and pizza is amazing! The pasta is freshly cooked and delicious. The service is really good also. Shoutout to the owner who always treats us well and makes us laugh

Excellent pizza, the best I’ve had outside Naples for many years. Average salad. Good ice cream. Very slow service but cheerful and charming staff. Our three-year-old granddaughter was made very welcome, despite her efforts to rampage around the restaurant. Nice to find an independent Italian restaurant outside London that is genuinely worth recommending.

Our first meal out since the lock-down began and we thoroughly enjoyed the food and experience. The decor creates a great ambience in which we enjoyed delicious dishes. The owner/staff (Italian) added to the authentic Italian atmosphere and were attentive as well as helpful in guiding us through the menu choices. Some expensive dishes, but well worth it. As they say you pay for what you get! We had Tagliatelle Al Cartoccio (Frutti Di Mare) and it contained a generous portion of different types of seafood full of flavour. We also thoroughly enjoyed a Pizza Pucinella which was the best we have tasted. A great restaurant to eat in leisure and enjoy wonderful tastes of Italy and the ambience.
