Hutton Cranswick Fisheries in East Riding of Yorkshire

Great portion sizes for chinese food and value for money. Only down side is that they accept cash only which is a bit backwards considering the climate were in following covid and theres only 1 cash point inside the local village shop. They close at 8pm whcih can be a bit restrictive but i believe this is dicatated to them by the local residents due to noise which is understandable.

Ordered for my Birthday! Both Chinese dishes and fish and chips were excellent. Really enjoyed it:) The food was ready for me on collection.

I was born and raised a sea-sider, and consider myself a connoisseur of fish n chips.I remember my favourite fish n chip shop from in the 1970s, I remember my favourite in the 1980s, the 1990s I had to go without mostly due to living elsewhere.Fish and chips is actually my favourite meal but not many chippies can do it justice. Often chip shops cannot fry fish correctly.This fish and chip shop was the best in the region for years - not the cheapest, but the best quality. I considered it better than Pickering, Malton, Scarborough, Wetwang, Bridlington, Hornsea. You get the picture. Capplemans, Fish Pan, 149, Whiteheads, Stuarts etc. they all paled into comparison.Fast forward to new owners…Today I ordered regular cod well-done. I got large haddock not well done.The chips were greasy slop. The chips here used to be as good as great restaurants so it was a shock.On top of that, when I picked the order up the new owner tried to imply that I had not ordered what I wanted - what great customer service: make mistakes then blame the customers. I hadn’t been in for a few weeks as the previous time I got fish that was rather too brown - it’s supposed to be white. I guess it had been in the freezer for a long time. So, this place is probably okay if you don’t care about the quality of your fish, if you just want a bag of chips with scraps then they’re as good as any other chippy. I note that the shop also does Chinese now and my other half’s favourite is Chinese so we had high hopes. This was short-lived because as soon as we saw the “vegetarian menu” had Oyster Sauce on it - it made us realise that they are incompetent. Since when were Oysters vegetarian? I hope nobody trusts any allergen information from this place.Lastly, even though the customer service and quality has gone down, the prices have gone up!If the quality had stayed the same I wouldn’t mind paying - I used to always tip the shop anyway.Oh, and the protective measures have been taken down and they now let people wait inside - so I don’t consider it covid-safe either.

the good the foodthe bad only accept cash, phoned in the order with a booked collection of 6.25, found a queue of people outside, the temperature was -1 degree, went in to pay and collect on time to find out they don't start cooking the order until it is paid for, collection at 7.05the ugly no one informed the customers this was their practice and was never informed by the front of house lady----- the worst service ever

Ordered chinese food for the family. Booked a slot to collect it. Had to wait an hour after the slot time which was disappointing but the food was amazing which made it worth it. Great portion sizes. Was recommended to us by two other people. Have to pay by cash only but this wasn't a problem for us. We will definitely return soon.

Absolutely DELICIOUS fish and chips! Great service, the ladies serving were very friendly and even suggested we ate at the pond which we did and was lovely. Great food, great service and great prices. Would highly recommend!

As a regular customer, I am sorry that Chris who wrote turned away post was disappointed but the phone order only system is very plainly explained in all advertisements, Facebook page and clearly placed in the front window- this is to ensure all the coronavirus safety rules are in place to protect us the public and staff- it’s one of the few places I feel secure that the rules are being applied and therefore PHONE My order in knowing I am the only one in the place and any waiting there is marks on the floor outside should you come too early - the fish and chips as per usual are lovely, the fish is to die for and it has decent portions for a greedy git like me - chips are a decent size and well cooked not over done or under done but just right. The team are doing a fab job in let’s face it quite tough business times and emotional times for everybody THANK YOU

We married on March 21st a wedding brought forward with 2 day’s notice due to the worsening coronavirus situation. The restaurant in Beverley that we had booked was no longer able to accommodate us so we rang Hutton Cranswick Fisheries and they saved the day! At very short notice they provided us with a hot fish and chip buffet for 10 people with lots of extras and food for a guest who required gluten free. Our food was delivered piping hot by the fisheries staff and arranged on the table provided, the food was without exception delicious and included fish goujons, chicken nuggets, gluten free mini quiche, homemade onion rings, salad, pork pie, sausage rolls, potato wedges, coleslaw and homemade tartar sauce. I would not hesitate in recommending Hutton Cranswick Fisheries.

Pearl and her team provide consistently excellent service and freshly cooked food. You will not be disappointed! Highly recommended.

I also feel like I have to respond to the turned away post. Please try to not let this upset you, you have all done an amazing job providing a fantastic service to your customers. Everything has been put in place for the safety of yourselves and your customers, you have given plenty of information to us throughout the whole of Lockdown, knowing it is an order and collect service ONLY and the fact you have even opened is more than some businesses have. I know it's not nice having negativity posted but you have so many who are there supporting you friends and customers alike. I will only leave a POSITIVE review as you have gone above and beyond for your community. Please know we are here supporting you. The food is always cooked well, tastes amazing and always hot as cooked to order unlike some places where its stood under hot lights drying up. I would like to thank you all for providing us with our Thursday fish and chips each week and keeping my mum happy too. As she loves her Thursday fish and chips.

These are the best fish and chips I've ever had. If I ever go on holiday or have a fish supper somewhere else, I always find myself comparing it to these, and thinking 'Cranswick chippy did it better'. Service is excellent, and the staff are lovely! Thank you so much for our scrumptious meals!

Normally excellent service, however I tipped up only me waiting 2m from customer being served, waited 5 minutes then" have you a phone order"? "Er no" "we are only doing phone orders", that was me told, I looked at the staff, I felt the stock out back I looked at the shop, well it says fish and chips. I could have rang them from outside while she watched but that would have been churlish. Come on guys this is aweful until you get real I'm going to Beeston.

Fantastic chip shop in a lovely village. Best mushy peas by far. Fish always fresh and succulent. Nice batter just how I like it not too dry. Chips vary on type of potato but usually good. Highly recommend

Called for a takeaway tea Fri night,, first visit, I had haddock and chips, my partner had, chicken nuggets, all was very good, would give 5 stars but thought chips might have been better.

Fantastic chips on Friday using new potatoes, best chip shop around. Always new weekly specials board, and they have started selling ice cream too!!! What's not to like!!!

A very generous portion of beautifully cooked crisp scampi, delicious! but what happened to the chips? For the first time ever they were soggy. Sure this was just a blip and we will certainly be back, usually the best in the East Riding!

This has got to be the best chippy around. Featherlight batter, luscious scampi and home made Tartare sauce. Yum yum. Easy parking too. thankyou, a treat!

Having been recommended to this gem many times my partner collected a takeaway for the second time . Scampi for me and he went for cod. I was blown away by the generous and beautifully cooked portion of scampi and the chips are great. Portions are not overwhelming and the meals nicely presented with recyclable wrappings. Add the mushy peas and tartare sauce provided and you are in Heaven.

Went to Hutton Cranswick chip shop last night to try somewhere different. All i can say is WOW, it was fantastic and worth the short trip. Lovely piece of flaky cod exactly how it should be. Will definitely be returning.

I am not a fan of fish and chips and was not expecting much from a takeaway but my goodness, the lightest of batter enveloped my sea-fresh haddock and the chips were a delight. Despite my misgivings I will be enjoying them again, and soon!. We had a takeaway.

First visit tonight and the nicest haddock and chips I have had for a long time. Only a small takeaway but very high quality food. They do serve other takeaway food too. Recommended

Thank you ladies. Investigated the bean burger for us and found it was vegan. Prepared us a top notch supper with lovely chips and salad. Hutton Cranswick has a jewel in a food desert.

The fish and chips here are cooked to perfection, on Thursdays they also use a gluten free batter, we won’t use anywhere else now , great size portions and reasonably priced

Quality and portion size of fish and chips very good. The crispness of the batter sometimes disappoints - not always consistent. I like the batter to always be crisp all the way through and not soft underneath. I am tempted to ask for them to be 'well done' to ensure this. I go further afield sometimes to guarantee consistency. However, overall a good example of a fish and chip shop.

Called for a takeaway meal, having been recommended by a friend, and was suitably impressed. The fish were huge and super tasty and the price was reasonable. We will be using this fish and chip shop on a regular basis now despite the fact it’s a bit of a drive.

Been meaning to post for a while. The fish and chips are beyond doubt some of the best in the area. Pleasant staff and reasonably priced. I can recommend their large fish (think it must be a whale 😂). Highly recommended.

Although only a couple of miles away this is our first experience of the HC Fish shop. Huge portions and the scampi were the best I've ever tasted. Very nice little packs of tartare sauce to go with them. My companion deemed the haddock excellent. We have obviously missed a treat for far too long. We will be back SOON.

Just tried the new special, doner kebab with all the trimmings, I will now be buying them from here as it is the best I have had in a long time, we also had fish and chips which were excellent as always. They have a really good selection of specials on the board. Best fish and chip shop around.

Visited Hutton Cranswick Chioshop this week, fish and chips fab, excellent value for money. The staff were very cheery and welcoming. Well worth a visit.

nice fish and chips but disappointing on last two visits as totally disorganised service due to staff not taking orders and my order of a large fish ended up being a normal broken in two to look like a large and then open but closed at 7:30 on a friday evening, probably won't be making a special trip there again!!

Placed well back from the main road, but worth turning off for. Fresh, tasty well cooked, reasonably priced, satisfied.

The best fish and chips by far fish cooked perfectly, chips are so delicious the batter isn't the usual soggy mess it's crisp and tasty 10/10 perfect so glad they are back post fire better than before

The fish and chips here are fantastic, and definately worth taking a trip to. It's not as fas as you think from Driffield. A proper quality fish and chips. The staff were great and service was quick. Good menu, with some homemade specials. Think they do gluten free batter somedays as well. Got to be the best fish and chips in the area.

We were devastated when we heard about the fire last year, and really missed our chippy dinners at Hutton Cranswick, but thankfully they are back in full swing again. We have been calling here on a Thursday dinnertime on our way to Driffield since we discovered it a few years back, this really is THE chippy to visit! We always recommend it to our friends and urge anyone to give it a try. The haddock is the best you will find, I don't know what they do differently but it stands out from the rest.

After almost a year of waiting, this great chippy is back open and better than ever!! Haddock & chips all round - great batter, great fish, great chips - proper Friday night tea! Welcome back!!
