Hunters Lodge Inn in South Somerset

My partner and I have been to the Hunters Lodge mainly for their carvery. It's a great go-to place to have a family meal for various occasions. The carvery is not just open for Sunday lunches, but also available for Friday onwards as an evening option. The vegetarian option has been regarded as very tasty too. There is a good choice of meats, along with a good option of roast vegetables and a very nice cauliflower cheese. The gravy is a delight too. There is a good selection of starters and desserts as well, if you have the space! The staff are very friendly, helpful and attentive. The place is popular, so the large car park does get filled quickly. It's not far from the main town of Gillingham, so it's not far to travel for locals who want to dine more in a quieter location.

Fantastic visit, clean spacious comfy room and bed with powerful shower too. Plenty of complementary tea, coffee, uht milk cartons plus nice touches of biscuits and bottled water in room. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Plenty of free parking spaces too. Was so peaceful, really enjoyed my stay and felt safe travelling alone. Highly recommend if you would like a peaceful break away in a gorgeous countryside setting. Very close to A303 but couldn't hear any traffic. The pub also provides a lovely breakfast (was included) and menus for lunch and dinner should you wish to eat there at additional cost. Friendly bar area too. Basically everything you need under one roof. Will definitely visit again.

I can't knock the service 5/5! However the vegan options are sparse and very disappointing. I had the 'BBQ lentil burger', the patty was incredibly dry and no flavour. Vegan coleslaw is no longer available. They had to use a gluten free bun (again very dry) as they only stock brioche buns. The burger had no sauces inside. It's possibly one of the worst burgers I've had. On a positive note, the fries were fantastic! And the other members of my party enjoyed their meals.

Loved it here. Rooms were good and comfortable and food was really good with very friendly staff to look after us. Only gripe was the wi-fi as it was practically non-existent but this is obviously due to the location of the hotel. Other than that our stay was very enjoyable.

We stayed just for a night, last night and were so impressed by the service. The rooms were clean, warm and spacious, the breakfast was incredible and the staff were so kind! Brilliant customer service, I’d definitely recommend!

Service was not that good and had a snail 🐌 in the salad (they knocked the meal off and did apologize)and two meals were not hot enough

Not very friendly and doenst allow dogs anywhere, not even in the bar area.

Was ignored, waiting at the bar for 10 minutes and a group was welcomed and served ahead of me. Not enough staff as it was busy. Had a nice visit previously. Walked out on this occasion.

Met up with family for lunch and had a lovely meal. Lovely choice on the menu and specials, good portions nicely cooked. Very good service and can see why it's very popular.

We went in for our works Christmas Dinner and the food was hot and served in a quick manner so people were not waiting long to start. Only one issue when taking drink orders from table we had to ask a few time for one of the drinks to be made. Other that that it was a great night with very friendly and helpful staff 👌

Good food purchased the oldies specials very good value Advise to book

Had a booking for 6 people on Friday 8th Dec on arrival was told that the booking was not available due to parties having the same surname, so we decided to leave and go somewhere else where we where made most welcome, and the food was very good,

Good pub good service. Felt left wanting had spicy bean burger. Plate looked empty compared to others at my table. Maybe a salid could of been incorporated with the bean burger. But good all-rounder.

The breakfast is amazing. I always love going there. I can only go when I'm in the area though, as I live in Birmingham.

Were taken here for a Sunday Carvery, quite busy and had to wait about 5 minutes for our table. The food was outstanding, probably the best carvery I have had. Would highly recommend if you are in the area.

Didn't stay. Went for a meal. Had the best liver, bacon and onions ever. They also stock a zero alcohol IPA on draught, who's name escapes me but was very nice.

The staff here are excellent and friendly and helpful, the food here is excellent and a carvery on Sunday which was delicious, the accommodation was brilliant, the room was comfortable and warm, easy car parking available, highly recommend a visit here.

Play Park is one of the best around Location, Parking facilities are great However the food was borderline inedible.

Quite a way for us to travel, but well worth it. Lovely food and atmosphere. Amazing gardens for the family to sit or/and play. Good selection of ale and cider. Will be going back.

Absolutely lovely in here, staff was lovely, and food was just perfect, they do not go by halves, and pricing is right in my budget, I will definitely be back, and won me over any other breakfast.

Great choice of food, lovely room but no internet ( on room) and fine location. Service excellent and a most enjoyable evening with no possibility of report filing once I left the communal areas (a brief respite.... thank you)

Good parking. Lovely large rooms with great bathrooms have been staying here once or twice a month since October while house hunting,staff are super pleasant and the breakfasts are amazing. Have also eaten lunch and dinner here great food super roasts and the pies are delicious

Had to wait 50 minutes to be served & only got served then because I was moaning about the wait & a member of staff heard. The food was average but the cow in my beef burger still had a pulse. As was rather under cooked. We were going to have dessert but after waiting another 15 minutes for someone to be bothered to come & clear the plates gave up. Can honestly say we will not be going back

Had a meal the service from the first pint bought over all good but like some places very busy so we did have to wait especially for our dessert but quality of the food very good perhaps a little expensive but with the cost of living understandable five or six vegetarian options so more choices than most staff very pleasant and efficient a good couple of hours out I would recommend

The hunters lodge is a lovely pub very popular ,I had booked it for 6 of us for a birthday meal we were greeted by the landlord he showed us to our table after after a few minutes we were asked what drinks we would like then order our food it' was lovely very big portion's staff were very friendly and helpful I would definitely recommend this pub it's very family friendly & homely as well ,there's a good size car park .

Loads of perking and great place to take children.Rooms are basic, but very clean. Staff are lovely and friendly and the carvery is lovely on a Sunday. Good value for money. We have visited on pie night, which was home made and really tasty.

I really can't fault the sunday roast! The food was incredible and it was an unlimited meal which you don't see very often these days! On top of all this you are welcomed with fantastic service from some lovely members of staff. If I could give them more stars I would and can't wait to go back again. Thankyou!

I've come here with family a few times already. Always great food at the restaurant, which explains why they're often busy! Despite how full it gets, service is consistently good. Definitely recommend.

Delicious Christmas Carvery today, and the organisation was very good for our party of around 45 people. I couldn't fault it.

Great play area at the back for young children. Plenty of parking . Worth the diversion if on a long journey from the southwest coast.

Went on a spontaneous visit for gradsons first birthday along with 2 other grandsons aged 2.5 years the other 20 months plus their mums. Tables were fully booked so ate out in one of two under cover eating areas. Excellent choices on menu and children's menu plus fee colouring books/stickers and crayons for the children. The well presented food was delivered to our table outside by very friendly staff. After lunch the children had a great time in the well laid out play area. Would highly recommend for families with young children.

Stayed here as wanted to visit Stourhead early before all the crowds rush in. If you're travelling from afar and wanting to visit it's the perfect place to stay as only 10 mins away. Room very comfy with everything needed. Staff were incredibly friendly as well. Had dinner there as nothing in the vicinity and food was very good with lots of choice. Dessert was amazing and bigger than expected. Recommend the chocolate cheesecake. Very delicious!

The staff are outstanding the food is wonderful I had steak cooked exactly as I asked the breakfast is excellent the beds are comfortable we had great nights sleep in all I would highly recommend this pub if you like old pubs

Food has really gone down hill. I would have complained if someone had returned to check if everything was OK with our meal, cajun creamy pasta really was just yuck. The children enjoyed the play area but that was about it

Decent lunch/brunch food at reasonable, maybe slightly above average prices. We stopped off on our way to a holiday stay and again on the way back. On the way back we missed breakfast and they don't serve food after breakfast but before lunch, but they made an exception which allowed is to have some food without waiting an hour, thank you.

Lovely looking place but had to wait so long for our drinks. Fook over cooked eight of us could not eat the French beans and the turkey was dry and hard. Roast potatoes not crispy but like leather so will not return.

This inn has a lot going for it. Firstly its privately owned and so a freehouse. It has extensive outdoor seating; either on the terrace or beside the childrens play area so is very child friendly. The food is good at very good price - especially the senior's two course lunch for £9:50. And finally the staff well trained and pleasant. Oh and lots of easy parking.
