Hunan Restaurant in Manchester

The spicy crayfish is neither spicy nor spicy. The crayfish is dry and oily, as if it was overnight. There are no side dishes at all. It is not worthy of the 38 pounds. Bad review.

Couldn’t recommend more. Staff were lovely and the food was incredible, very authentic place!

Well, it was a ride.. We ate about everything we could order fish, duck, gin.. And Kim was still wearing something and smiling, we also smiled a little while paying, but China town is worth it, then again sometime...

Nice food and friendly on-time service. Spicy pork trotters and fried beef rice were tasty, homemade milk tea was ok, will visit again.

Great food but would not recommend. The heating was off - we ate in our coats. Cold and small, shabby toilets. Not family friendly. There were no child friendly drinks, high and long steps to get in, so don't take a stroller. The waitresses were unfriendly and cold. We had to ask for menus, and ask for water. When we had finished our drinks we had to ask for more as not staf came to us first to offer anything.

Very poor service attitude, treated differently

First visit here on a quick stop off in Manchester. Delicious food with more than ample portions, good service and reasonable price for 2 courses and drink, plus complimentary prawn crackers. Will certainly call again next time I get the opportunity. Booking on a weekend evening may be advisable.

Great night at Hunan. Good range of starters and mains, high quality and well presented. Service good and prices reasonable and easy walks to good local pubs, try the Bank. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed a lovely meal on NYE - it was our first visit and the service was very good. The food was impressive though be careful if you request extra spice in any dishes. We will certainly be trying again.

The special chow mein was the best. Full of flavour and very tasty. The sizzling beef in pepper sauce was disappointing. The beef was way too tough and chewy but the flavours again was good. I would go back for the noodles.

Very good Chinese food in Manchester Chinatown. Try the set banquet menu... You get a good taste of a wide variety of dishes. Has both expected Chinese dishes and some more authentic choices for the more adventurous eater. Everything we ate was delicious.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at this Hunan restaurant, and I am pleased to say it was a delightful experience. The food was absolutely delicious, the bold flavours and fragrant aromas characteristic of traditional Hunan cuisine. Each dish truly showcased the perfect balance of spicy, sour, and savoury flavour. Making every bite an exciting journey for the taste buds. The Spicy Sizzling Beef, in particular, was my personal favourite - must try!! The service was equally impressive. The staff were courteous, attentive, and took the time to explain the menu, providing great recommendations to meet our preferences which added a very nice personal touch to our meal. Highly recommend this place if you’re in Central Manchester and looking for an authentic, enjoyable Hunan dinning experience.

A little bit disappointed about the dishes as they were far from the authentic Hunan style food. Besides, food portions were small.

We are visitors in Manchester and choosing the restaurant because of our appetite. Ambiance was good, staff was friendly, food was coming fast, as all was prepared already. Prices in the menu are looking reasonable but when we asking for the bill we received a bundle of 3 handwritten papers which we don’t understand. Our mistake was not to ask for proper invoice and we’ve got the feeling to be cheated at this point. It was a bitter taste and reason for this comment. Check it out properly when you are visiting this restaurant as maybe 2 of this handwritten papers are surcharges for service, tax and others.

many options to choose from, nice quiet place, the portions are fulfilling and most importantly doesn’t have that ridiculous a additional “10% or 20% service fee”!!!

We lived in Hunan for a year and were excited to come. It’s located in Manchester’s Chinatown, and the menu includes Chinese, English, and pictures. The food was very good, though we were a little disappointed that it was not the authentic spicy. I wonder if they assumed we wanted the less spicy British version vs. fiery hot Hunan dishes the province is known for. The service was good throughout, multiple vegetarian options, and prices moderate for Manchester.

By far the best Chinese food I've ever had anywhere. Absolutely incredible. As rich and unbelievably flavourful as it is authentic. We were even greeted by the manager who was very warm and welcoming. Will definitely eat here again! Thank you!

Delicious authentic Hunan food. A lot of spicy options if you like that kind of thing. The restaurant is clean and well maintained unlike some other restaurants in Chinatown. They have a great selection of bubble tea too, which is a must try. I would recommend their matcha green tra bubble tea. Amazing!

Service here is great, super friendly and attentive. The portions are big, you could easily share two mains and a couple sides between 3 or 4 people. Absolutely delicious too!

Not as good as the reviews say. Cut of pork for maos braised pork was either dry or all fat. Plates were freezing cold and food was very oily. Restaurant itself was also cold so food went cold very quickly. Don’t think I’ll be returning, unfortunately! Was expecting a lot more based on reviews.

Lovely authentic Chinese food! Really glad to have squeezed a visit in here before lockdown 2.0 and was not disappointed by the food! Three out of four of us are vegetarian and we were blessed with a huge array of options, very clearly labelled as vegetarian (something authentic Chinese places unfortunately don’t always offer) and enjoyed a variety of dishes.Would recommend going in a group and sharing different plates, definitely gives you a better scope. The different noodle dishes were divine, and the garlic spicy aubergine dish was by far a personal fave.The staff were lovely and I cannot wait for lockdown restrictions to be lifted so I can visit again.

Wanted to go to this restaurant last year for valentines but could afford it, when to day with my girlfriend for my birthday, amazing food, had a little problem with a dish but they made it up and made my experience there the best will definitely go there again.

Nunca me habría aventurado en este restaurante chino (estilo Hunan) si no fuera porque nuestro hijo es más aventurero. MUCHAS escaleras para subir, pero vale la pena, incluso con el carrito de un niño para llevar.Buena comida, buena elección, aunque un poco demasiado tradicional para algunos, pero el banquete vegetariano para tres fue más que suficiente para cuatro, incluso compartir uno de los platos de sopa no fue una dificultad. Sabores y texturas fabulosos: ¿quién necesita carne? Simulacros de pollo: ¿qué es eso? No sé, pero estaba muy rico. Gran valor y un buen ambiente para familias y niños pequeños. Llévate a tus propios hijos lindos, te molestarán. Volveríamos de nuevo.

One of my most favourite places to eat Chinese food. Great, choice of authentic Hunan dishes and with a most friendly and welcoming service. Good value for money and ideally situated in the centre of Chinatown.

It is difficult to get regional Chinese food in Manchester, but Hunan really does a great job. Spicy and very tasty in a place with nice ambiance. You get a lot of meat per dish compared to many other places and it is accurately cooked. We had the spicy beef and a pork belly dish. Enough for dinner the day after as well! Excellent service and good pricing. Recommended.

We had a lunchtime meal here. We chose from the a la carte menu and had some very useful advice about what would suit us from the waitress. We started with spare ribs and chicken satay - delicious. We then went for the sizzling beef and the prawns with fried rice. Both were excellent. There were lots of Chinese people eating in there so it must have been a good choice!

Hunan's food was delicious, and they were very helpful when I wanted to bring a group of 20 people on a Saturday night at quite short notice. Thanks to everyone for making our evening such a success!

We ordered many dishes... We couldn't rrally eat the famous crab dish. The dumplings as a starter were really delicious. Other dishes wee very Authentic.. the green veggies and with the pork meat. I'll go here again...

Went after reading reviews that it’s vegetarian friendly... I found nothing on the menu that was veggie friendly except Mapo tofu, asked if I could have the tofu crispy, told no and I may not be able to have it as it has pork in it... Got silken tofu with rice and garlic broccoli. £56 for a meal for 2, had a feel of a canteen and not a restaurant. Was ok but had much better meals at Little Yang Sing, much wider vegetarian options and nicer ambience, food was nice an Hunan’s but not a great experience.

The food was absolutely stunning and having travelled across China last year (with another trip booked to Hunan province itself later this year) the dishes we chose felt very authentic. We had the countryside style fried pork with green chilli, sizzling beef, stir fried Chinese greens and boiled rice. With a beer each this filling meal came to a reasonable £20pp. The whole experience really took us back to some of the incredible meals we had out there in China. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. We will definitely be back to try more of the exciting menu. Very nice.

very poor service. additionally whilst we were having lunch, the staff moved heavy boxes around and made the room so noisy that you just wanted to leave. very oily food too. not recommended at all

We visited Hunan recently as a group of 6 on our trip to Manchester. It didn't disappoint. We picked it from trip advisor as we wanted a nice chinese. The restaurant was packed, we were lucky to get a table. So it would be a good idea to have it pre booked. We all had starters and main courses and I thought with 2 bottles of wine (and plenty of other drinks) that it was good value. Loads of choice on the menu. Be careful when ordering sides as the portions are big but our server had advised us accordingly. Some very unusual dishes on the menu but we stuck to the usual. The veg spring roll as starter and the kung Po were my favourite dishes.

Mientras visitábamos Manchester visitamos Chj una ciudad. Después de mirar varios restaurantes decidimos este. Desde el lado de la acera no se ve mucho, ya que es una situación en el primer piso. Fácilmente podrías perderte el restaurante si no te concentras. Solo queríamos comida para llevar, pero el personal era muy amable y, a pesar de ser un sábado por la noche, no estaba demasiado ocupado. Mientras miraba alrededor del restaurante, estaba lleno de clientes chinos, lo que me pareció una buena señal de la calidad de la comida. Tuvimos una comida para cuatro, el tamaño de las porciones era amplio, y costaba 50. Gran calidad, buena comida recomendaría defensivamente!

Great authentic cheap eats. Real Chinese from the Hunan region which means offal and spices. Excellent cheap set menu. Remember to request hot plates to eat from. Strange i know but still worth a visit.

Manchester China Town is not what it was but the Hunan continues to serve authentic great value food. Excellent value set menu plus a full ala carte. Hunan is an area of China which prefers spicy food and many of the unusual dishes including offal are totally different to the run of the mill Chinese offerings elsewhere. The staff are friendly and efficient. Strangely the set menu food is served plated and on cold plates which is rectified on request.. Well worth a visit but remember to request a hot plate.

Food was fab, we had set meal 2 for 2 people, there was so much food and we are not the type to be beaten but we took some home so will be enjoying it tomorrow. Staff we also very lovely and really looked after us, great little place

Año nuevo chino con amigos. Tuvimos entrantes variados y algunas costillas, luego la carne de cerdo del Presidente Mao (personalmente no me gustan las 5 especias, pero ese es mi gusto, no una crítica de la comida), muy untuosa y jugosa, pollo agridulce (el estándar favorito). lubina dulce y amarga (realmente buena y bastante inusual - convirtió a mi amigo que odiaba en agridulce en un fanático), y varios otros. Todo muy bien y los camareros hicieron todo lo posible por contarnos sobre aspectos menos familiares, advirtiéndonos que el pescado estaba en el hueso, por ejemplo. El menú tiene los favoritos estándar pero también algunos platos inusuales e interesantes - cangrejo de terciopelo y otros. El servicio fue rápido: nuestro plato principal tomó mucho tiempo pero no fue sorprendente, ya que todo estaba lleno y el dragón y el león bailaron en el restaurante. Las cervezas se sirven muy rápido y se rellenan muy rápido. Solo una pequeña crítica es que mi amigo sin gluten no tuvo muchas opciones, esto también podría haber sido un poco debido al año nuevo y todo lleno, pero el camarero vino y lo habló a través del menú y le recomendó varias cosas, así que él estaba feliz. Great food again in Hunan restaurant in Manchester Chinatown. Been to about 10 Chinese restaurants but this one is by far the best. Xiaobo and her colleagues are excellent and friendly. First class Hunan food and first class service.

¡Qué gran descubrimiento! Sabiendo lo que es realmente buena comida china, este restaurante ofrece la comida china más auténtica y buena. Nunca antes había comido Hunan, pero escuché que era picante, los chefs de allí me dieron lo que esperaba.

We have lots of Chinese restaurants near us and even have a award winning one where we live which is fab but came to Manchester and me and my partner must admit how gorgeous the food was here can’t complain once about any of the food we was full and took the rest home cos we couldn’t leave it anyway if u want advice on going for a Chinese I would highly recommend this place u will be very surprised x

With my oriental background on me I know when I tasted a real authentic Chinese food/dishes, and in Manchester there are so many Chinese restaurants but its not hard to find out which one is the proper one and the commercial one; just look at their food menus, if the restaurant sells a typical common dishes that the same like in your local takeaway that mean don't expect authentic. -- Seafood + vegs dishes menu that we ordered was super fresh, super delicious, generous portion and reasonable priced compare other Chinese restaurants that we've been; portion is small, seafood not fresh / from frozen. --- Recommended for sea-food lovers: whole steamed sea bass in soy sauce (size more than enough for 2) + stir fry Pak Choy with garlic + spicy prawn skewers (hot plate) + boiled rice + pot of green tea. -- Also atmosphere in here is very homey feels, staffs are super helpful, warm and friendly, its a family run business. -- I would like to say thank you to the Manager who are very kind and humble to us (sorry we forgot your name). -- We'll be back very soon. Highly recommended.

Been to many Chinese restaurants in China Town and in Manchester but always have to come back to Hunan. The food is very tasty and the portions are very generous.

We ate here on a Sunday lunch on our visit to Manchester we all love Chinese food and this place is great value for money offering one, or two course menu for a cracking price and of course there’s a much bigger extensive menu to choose from

One of the best Chinese meals I have ever had. We had a banquet and the food was absolutely delicious. The variety of dishes on offer is extensive and the Hunan cuisine a great change from the usual Cantonese and Szechuan fare. In addition, the service was excellent and the atmosphere really chilled. Definitely worth a visit.

The person I came here with recommended it because of its plentiful vegetarian choices. That being said, they sell all sorts of interesting dishes here…from pig’s intestines to diced salmon head!

Deambulando por Chinatown me encontré con Hunan y decidí probarlo. La camarera fue agradable y rápidamente me mostró una mesa. Pedí el 8. 80 almuerzo de 2 platos Menú. La tostada de gambas era muy buena, seguida de Crispy Beef. La comida era genial y me deffo regreso cuando en Manchester?

Really good food and very generous portions. Quick but not intrusive service, I rarely manage a whole meal but it was so nice I finished the lot. The lunch menu was varied and excellent. We will definately go back.

The food was very oily. I had already asked the waitress to limit the use of oil in our dishes. Yet they came with the food that was shining! It is not difficult to make customers happy if they consider what they v asked for.

I was thinking that it could be a good Chinese restaurant but everything wasn't edible and me and my husband let nearly everything on our plates. Even the rice was too cooked

Cheap two course lunch was very good value. No drinks licence at the moment as they were awaiting renewal. You could take your own booze for 10 % extra.

We have been going this place for years,is this palce under new management ? We were here on Saturday night.the food was ok(not great) but the service was let us down.staffs don't known much about menu,and with very very slow service.the manager call paul is gong!!!(it was told so)he is funny and very helpful gay.best waiters ever !! Es nuestra primera visita a Manchester donde vive mi hijo y coincidimos con unos amigos que tenían un interés especial en cenar en un buen restaurante chino. Pidieron consejo a mi hijo que estudio un año en China y reservó en Hunan. No pudo ser mejor elección y lo dice alguien a quién no le entusiasma demasiado este tipo de comida. Todo exquisito, servicio impecable y el precio inmejorable.

Estancia en Manchester para un par de noches, fuimos a la Hunan porque de las recomendaciones en tripadvisor. Sin duda a la altura de las expectativas. Optamos por la vida sencilla con un banquete para dos en £18 cada uno. El personal era muy atento, incluso sustituir una cuchara que me dejó antes de preguntar, y ni siquiera estaba usando. La comida que nos dieron era sólo una pequeña fracción de la selección disponible, pero sabrosa y bien presentada, no obstante. En resumen, una buena noche, buena relación calidad-precio y sin duda un lugar de visita de nuevo la próxima vez que estemos en Manchester. Bien hecho.

Fui con dos amigos para el almuerzo, ¡qué gran elección que había hecho! El servicio era excelente, así como la comida. Uno de mis amigos estaba servida una lager que no era de su agrado, pero no hubo problema, fue rápidamente reemplazado con una botella de cerveza Tiger (siempre muy bien! ) Situado en el corazón de Chinatown, así que es muy fácil de encontrar, en general, un excelente lugar para cenar.

We chose Hunan off the back of favourable reviews but was disappointed. The food was below average. Dim sum starter was luke warm and nothing really tasted of anything. The Sizzlers didn't sizzle and the excessive use of tin foil looked naff.

En Manchester visitando a mi hijo con mi esposa china. La Sra. faltaba el sabor de la comida de Casa picy' cuando vimos el Restaurante Hunan. Me llevé una agradable sorpresa que sirve auténtica comida china, el jefe de la provincia de Hunan. La comida y el servicio era fantástico. Puedo recomendar este restaurante si quieres probar auténtica comida china de la casa del presidente Mao.

No soy un amante de la comida china no me emocionado por ir allí, pero muy contenta de haberlo hecho. Que sin pedir un banquete por £26 por cabeza, que era excelente. Delicioso y caliente inicial de sopa amarga llena de verduras y sabor, luego dim sum (mi favorito por supuesto) todo estaba delicioso y un plato generoso - lo único que no nos gustó fue el de algas. Rollos de pato crujiente con - siempre estupendo y eran encantadores, último curso era enorme! Carne picante, que estaba viva con sabores picante caliente y cerdo preparado con canela lento (muy agradable combinación) de arroz y un plato de verdura - demasiado para dos, pero siendo un cerdo me encantó!

Si su cocina picante y un gran servicio, entonces puedo decir que merece la pena una visita. Es la segunda vez y volveré, la primera vez fue nuestra cena de Navidad funciona y el personal no podría ser más servicial y la comida deliciosa. Algunos de nuestro grupo no tan entusiastas en tipo de comida pero chili fácil de encontrar algo para satisfacer lo que disfrutamos. Le vuelvo de comida? Sin duda! ! ! Sí

Second visit here recently. Cannot fault the food and wine. I haven't got round to trying the steamboat/hotspot experience yet but will definitely give it a go next time. Plenty of tasty vegetarian options too. Excellent service. Happy staff serving excellent food. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not the most glamorous restaurant but really good traditional Chinese . Amazing Tofu and as a regular China visitor and a lover of Tofu, this is good ! Quick service , spicy or not , the choice is great, I highly recommend.

Leí muchos comentarios y elegido éste. Entrantes eran geniales y algunos de los mejores calamares crujientes que tenía. El pato era preciosa, pero la red de plato de arcilla eran enormes y ojalá hubiera conocido como lo he ordenado 1 entre nosotros. La calidad real de pollo y el sabor no era el mejor, que trajo a mi resultado 4 después de tales buenos aperitivos y pato. Sin duda lo recomiendo y sí nos volveríamos.
