Lovely place! Came to York for a short visit and this place was recommended by a local. Great service. They customized my food - Ordered the Yorkshire Rarebit and the be very friendly girl behind the bar replaced the bacon with tomatoes for me when I said I didnât eat bacon. She also gave me genuine suggestions on foods when I said I couldnât tolerate alcohol - she double checked and told me the stew had alcohol in it so safer for avoid it. Enjoyed the food! Beer cheese was tasty but also made the food too salty.

This is a unique place spread across two public floors. We had a daily special of venison and bacon stew one evening which was chockful of meat and tasty juice. That night and at other times, we tried several beers, finding the bar staff very helpful, friendly and welcoming. Very well-recommended indeed !

A sure-fire prime craft destination in York is the exquisitely renovated Georgian craft beer mansion of Trembles Lendal. Winner of the York Restoration Design Awards in 2018. Spread over three luxurious floors with a bistro style café on the ground floor, the main bar area is upstairs with several stunningly decorated side rooms. Each is finely presented in the grand Georgian style but with that quirky Madness shining through with a smattering of taxidermy and quite disturbing renaissance gothic artworks of several levels of debauchery. Naked woman kissing a goose? Man eating a baby, it's all here. Despite the pictures they are actually family and dog friendly. The facilities are up another level, I don't usually include photos of the toilets but these are some of the grandest pub toilets you'll ever visit, worth all the stairs to get there. But what we've really come here for is the amazing range of craft beers, usually over 12 keg line split between the floors and 3 cask offerings. If you want a wide range of beer styles from all over the country and Europe, there are always a good few classic Belgians on, then this really is the place to be. It's not the cheapest place by far but it's certainly worth it to us. With this awesome range and their top quality food you really could spend an entire weekend just at Trembles. Don't go to York without visiting or you'll regret it!

A place you must visit, if it's only to witness the quirky interior and art on the walls, but also a great place to get an ale or two. There is a fridge, downstairs, that hold a decent selection of beer that you can takeaway. The staff have always been friendly each time I've been.

Terrible service. Would definitely not recommend. If youâre looking for a sedate evening that doesnât involve any laughter and fun, Iâm sure this venue would be fine but we found the bar staff, terribly rude and judgemental. They clearly misunderstood fun as drunkenness and refused to serve us after 3 glasses of wine with food. To add insult to injury they have then written on trip advisor that I wasnât able to string a sentence together. Funny how, Iâm apparently not able to string a sentence together but I can write and clearly articulate myself on the very same evening in question.

This review is for the Lendal House. This is one of the most unique and frankly brilliant establishments for ale and food in England. We visit York twice a year and come here for lunch and a few ales and they never disappoint. The decor is artistic genius, the ambience lively and chilled, the food is hearty and superb but we come here for the selection of ales. The Real Ale Revolution has left England with some superb Real Ale Breweries and the House of the Trembling Madness showcases some of the best available. The shop in the basement hosts a simply massive selection of IPA's and ales, ciders, lagers and unique glasses which rivals any Ale shop I've seen. Food choices; we go for the Platters... the Yorkshire and Madness on our last visit were divine. Generous portions and beautifully selected produce. Burgers and pies are always good choices, and so well priced. Trembling Madness is an experience in itself, worth going for a pint to check out the decor. Nice to be served by cheerful English staff too (can one say that... ?!) All in all, we love it and so will you.

We had intended to have lunch here and bought drinks, sat down to look at the menu. When we had decided on our choices, my husband went to the bar to order. Neither my first, second or third choice was available. There were only about 4 things on the menu that were still available, none of them really to our taste. We had some nibbles, nuts and olives, finished our drinks, then went for lunch elsewhere. It was very disappointing and could have been avoided if staff had informed us on arrival that there was a very limited menu available. On the plus side, our dogs were welcome, thanks.

I've been here numerous times. It has always been pleasant, but I will say that on this particular occasion, the service from the staff was especially attentive. There were only a few things that could have been improved upon. One was the food selection which is good, but unfortunately they had sold out of I the top 2 food items I wanted to order. It was a Monday evening, not even late, so I was surprised to find this. The beer selection I also thought couple have been a bit better as they only had 2 stouts/porters. It's December, so I'd think dark beers and stouts would be popular. One stout was lovely. But at 15% I decided that would be too strong for me to order

Really interesting place. I would love to know more about its history. It's set over a few floors and has various rooms. The decor is amazing, really feels like you're stepping back in time. I returned the drinks immediately and asked if we could change the beer please. A very rude bar person told me it wasnât in their policy to exchange or refund a bad pint. I was advised that if I wanted to speak to the manager I would need to go to the third floor but be prepared not to be seen as they were very busy. It's got character in the building, although I'm not sure it fully lives up to the name! It is based over a number of floors, and I think would struggle to provide accessibility, as would many places in the older streets of York. The choice of ales etc is very good. Typical pricing for touristy pubs in the centre of York, so make sure you don't visit when funds are short!

We had popped in (Lendell, there are two) on our first day in York and were so impressed we returned the following day. Both days we ordered the sausage sandwich and the Yorkshire rarebit. The cheese on the rarebit was beer cheese and so tasty and rich but not greasy. The sausage sandwich was a house sausage wheel which struggled to fit in the beautiful artisan bun. I wish we tried more but we were so impressed with what we ordered we had to order again. The beer is not mainstream beers (carling, fosters etc). If you like a nice brown ale I can recommend the rolling stone it was the perfect paring for the sausage. The atmosphere and decor were great and quirky with some strange gothic portraits and the odd random tiny little doors for elves hidden around the rooms. I can highly recommend the house of trembling madness and will definitely put it on our list of places to visit the next time we are in York. PS they are child and dog friendly.
