As always fab time had by all at House of Delight - amazing food served every time we have visited - best Chinese restaurant we have eaten at in a long time Staff are always so friendly and attentive

Wow!!! At almost 50 years old, I can honestly say that was THE best Chinese I've ever had!! I've been going off of Chinese because some of the takeaways we've had recently have been (in my opinion) below par and not worth the money (not from this Chinese I will add). This place has renewed my faith in decent food and Chinese in particular. Taste, flavours and portion size, all amazing! The food was outstanding and service wonderful. Thank you so much, it was magic!

When you get told you can not have a certain desert because the kitchen is busy, it is not good.

Very good meal. Went with the other half and had set menu 2. The food was very good with special mention to the chicken satay and crispy seaweed in the mixed starter. Cantonese sizzling beef and salt and pepper prawns were really tasty. This restaurant has been in maldon for a long time and is always busy, there's a reason for that.

Fantastic restaurant, always have take away , staff are very friendly. Food is always good, recommend chilli squid and mixed veg , the wife loves sticky beef (doesn't everyone)

After moving into the area & only ever finding 1 chinese in Essex that provides gluten free options I was so happy to know that House of Delight provides gluten free options. The staff were able to advise what I would have and clearly highlighted on the takeaway container which products were gluten free. Really lovely food, fresh, not greasy or salty. Thank you!!

I don’t recommend this place . We had take away yesterday and the portions was way to small and the chicken was chewy also not much test to the food . But what annoyed me the most we payed a lot of money and they give as like kids portions of food in very small aluminium boxes . We had Chinese from different restaurants and they never give us such small portions . I don’t know if them portions are like this or they been greedy on our order . Anyway I will never order from them again .

First visit, had heard good things about the restaurant. We hadn’t booked but were early and we were seated. The restaurant filled up quickly so is obviously popular, with many tables having five or more diners, and their food looked really good. Service was good, but the menu items we chose were a bit underwhelming. The chicken satay skewers had no satay flavour, the noodles, beansprouts and chicken dishes were all a bit too wet and lacked a bit of seasoning. Maybe we chose the wrong dishes? Sadly this was a bit of a damper on what would otherwise have been a good evening. We will re-visit at some point to see if this was just unfortunate (given it’s a very popular place) or our expectations were misaligned, or maybe lack of competition ?

We have eaten at the House of Delight several times and had a great experience every time. By far, the busiest restaurant in town, and it's easy to see why.

Not very delightful, ordered beef and vegetable soup, beef was chewy soup had no flavour, second dish Special chop seuy, there was egg on top of the been shots, plenty of chicken and prawns, that's about it worse chop seuy I've tasted threw it away

Lovely fresh cooked authentic food cooked with care and consideration , everything looked and tasted great , this was by far one of my favorite Chinese food for a local town , we have eaten in and had takeout and both times food was really lovely , glad we found it on TripAdvisor ,it’s tucked away you could easily miss it !

What a great place, very friendly staff, we had a great experience and will come back again in the future. All dishes were beautifully presented, tasty, hot and the service was impeccable. My favourite dish is hot and sour soup, the best that I have ever eaten. Thoroughly recommend for a special evening.

Some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. Good service, reasonably priced.

We have been going to the Happy House many times over the last few years and never had a problem but tonight we might just as well have been ghosts, We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and arrived at 7.30pm and odrered drinks. By 7.50pm two other parties of four had been sat next to us and were served drinks. Despite complaining twice we did not get our drinks order until 8pm, 30 minutes after arriving. The rest of the night followed suit, we were totally ignored by the waiting staff. We watched as tables were fussed over, the owner went around glad handing people whilst we had to repeatedly ask to be served. When we complained to the owner his response was to laug and say tyectable next to us had only ordered a two course meal! They had arrived 30 minutes after us. We have spent the best part of £3000 there over the last few years and so time to spend my money somewhere else.

Decided to book after reading good reviews and always struggle to find a good Chinese restaurant. This place is a little gem great service, friendly staff, lovely food the salmon treyaki was amazing and just a lovely atmosphere. Will be visiting again and glad we found it. The decor is lovely inside too.

Always amazing food and even better staff

From the outside, you may keep walking by, but dont be fooled by the outside. When you walk in you are greeted with an euthentic atmosphere and a warm welcome. Service was exceptional, restaurant was busy and the food was to die for. A great expeience, I will go back with friends

Thr food is absolutely amazing! It tastes amazing, I've never had a bad mouthful in that restaurant. The staff are so friendly, accommodating and extremely good at their job. Customer service is 100%. If you're disabled and need adjustments or extra support, they're only too happy to help. Even with parking. They allowed me to park against their gate outside because of my disabled nan because there was no street parking avaliable. The main manager is just delightful. The interior is cosy, clean, tidy and very simply but elegantly done. This is my favourite Chinese restaurant I've ever been too. Its amazing, completely faultless and I cannot wait to go back again.

Busy venue, predominantly older clientele - am guessing repeat customers & good service. Food fresh & tasty. Restaurant would benefit from an interior door to protect customers from recent windchill factor caused by people coming & going. Made dining experience unpleasant. Would go back but would ask to sit away from entrance.

What a gem this is. 5 of us went for dinner this evening and the food was amazing and arrived very quickly after ordering. Everything was so tasty and piping hot and unlike many asian restaurants that you visit, none of us got that horrible MSG afterslump that you can get after a Chinese meal. Loved the food here and will definitely be back!

My and I enjoyed an excellent meal here with Friend on Saturday night. The restaurant was busy (due to very good reason), the food and service were both exceptional and the set menu we opted for was superb - particularly the steak dish. Excellent experience will definitely return.

This was our second visit with friends with a few years gap and the food and service were still very good it was a very busy Saturday night ,excellent menu well presented staff were great can’t comment on price as I didn’t pay this time lovely!

I have had hundreds of meals in Chinese Restaurants around the country over my 55 years and this is right in my top 3 of all time. The Orchid in Harrogate, Pin Wei in Abbots Langley, (where I live) and here at The House of Delight in Malden. It was my 31st Wedding Anniversary and I chose this place from ratings on TA. My Wife was so pleased I chose there. Very pleasant staff, clean, and top food at a reasonable price in today’s world .

We had a really lovely meal here. Not an extensive menu in the restaurant compared to the take away, but I expect the kitchen would happily accommodate any requests. One of our party is coeliac and they were able to prepare food gluten free. Very fresh, well cooked and light food. Not at all greasy or heavy. Well presented at the table and the staff were friendly and attentive. We will be returning. An enjoyable evening meal

In house: 5 stars for the food quality - 4 stars for the very slow service on a Thursday evening. As a takeaway service on a busy Friday evening 6 stars. I phoned across an order and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes.!!

Visited Maldon waterfront and the restaurant is just a couple of minutes or so walk away at the bottom of the High Street. Ordered from the main menu (not the set menu) and the mixed starters and soups were lovely but because the portions were so generous we started to struggle. The owner kindly suggested we might want to review our main course orders which we did - and still couldn't finish some of our sizzling beef and Hong Kong chicken which was then boxed-up for us to take away and still tasted great today (Monday) ! If we have another meal in Maldon again we'll definitely go there again but order a bit less ! Very nice, comfortable restaurant and lovely people.

Spoon and fork or chopsticks - you decide. We had a lovely welcome and were shown to our table quicly followed by a dish of prawn crackers and asked about drinks. We declined and discussed what to eat, settling on set menu D3 (top one). Mixed starters followed by Duck Pancakes rounding off with special rice and 3 dishes - prawn, beef and chicken all lovingly presented. At this stage I would normally include some pictures but the food simply screamed 'try me'! So you will have to go yourself. The staff were so friendly and helpful as well. I would urge you to book to get the day & time you want. A pre dinner walk along the nearby 'Prom' to work up an apetite would be a good call too. Enjoy your visit.

We had to ask about vegan options but they were happy to explain what they could do, and even go ‘off menu’ for us. Tasty food, not overloaded with MSG.

Went here because of the great reviews, disappointed is an understatement, really quite shocked at the food, went for the mixed appetizers to start, didn’t stay for the main £8.60 each for sesame (no prawn toast), chewy overcooked satay chicken, empty spring rolls (manager told us they are bought in)! Fatty ribs - not for us won’t be back

Had a take away from this restaurant and I can honestly say it is the best Chinese I have ever tasted! The barbeque sauce is amazing and the prawn crackers tasted really fresh. As long as i can remember this resturant has been in Maldon, it a family run businessand i can even remember the young waiter son who is now the manager, the food is alway good and service either eating in or take away the food has been top.they have great spare rib, and crispy duck, you cannot go wrong eatin here

Started as a take-away but has grown by its own success into a fine dining experience of the Orient. Fine Chinese dishes served at finely set tables by family of the owners and staff. Fine wines, too. Recommend you book ahead to reserve your table.

We visited this restaurant for my sons birthday, we have been before and the food has always been nice, but this time it was very average, I ordered beef with green pepper in a black bean sauce, and it had about four tiny bits of beef and lots of onion and pepper, and that was the same for most of the meat dishes we had, service was very slow we had to ask twice for our bill and took at least half an hour of waiting until we got it, we shall not be returning to this restaurant.

I visited House of Delight on a Monday night which can often be a quiet night, however I was pleased to see other diners which encouraged me to enter. I was warmly welcomed by a friendly gentleman who I learned was the owner. He showed me to a seat and let me settle before bringing the menu at the right time. I was impressed with the range of food on offer and chose the Vegetarian Spring Rolls which came promptly and well presented. For my main course I chose Lamb with spring onion and ginger which arrived on a sizzling skillet. I accompanied my main with egg fried rice. The food was of top quality and did not go cold as it was provided on the skillet. I was also impressed by the table service, particularly the young waiter (I think he was called James) who took the time to chat with me. As a lone diner I was very thankful for his good service. A very enjoyable evening meal and the best Chinese meal I have had for several years.

We have been coming to the House of Delight for over 35 years and have never been disappointed with this family owned restaurant. The food is always well cooked and beautifully presented and the flavours are excellent. The staff are very welcoming and the owner, Eddie, is superb at looking after his customers. It’s a true neighbourhood restaurant, ideal for a special occasion with friends or for a quiet meal for two. Yesterday we had the rib eye steak on a sizzling platter with Portobello mushrooms, onions and teriyaki sauce, sweet and sour king prawns Hong Kong style, salt and chilli asparagus and Singapore noodles. All dishes were delicious and highly recommended. The toffee apple bananas and ice cream are a real treat too if you have room for dessert. Already looking forward to our next visit!

We had a take away on a Wed evening and noticed the restaurant was full . We had a set meal for five and it fed 8 of us, plenty for all and fantastic taste all ready in 29min

This is by far the best Chinese food I have ever had and I’ve been to a few. Better than china town in London. Eddie and his staff are amazing and friendly this place never disappoints.

Our party of four arrived at 6:15, stupidly we hadn't pre booked, the manager was very concerned that we would not have sufficient time to savour our meal within the hour slot that was available but we accepted the available table; the food was soon ordered and promptly delivered to the table, the food was piping hot, delicious, the service perfect, thank you for rescuing our evening.

We were visiting friends in Maldon and they took us here. It is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever been to. Lovely modern decor and very, very friendly staff. We had one of the set menus which was excellent - very good value, lovely food and a great choice of dishes. They have a good selection of wines on offer including a very good South African Pinotage. Very efficient service. We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

Popped in here for a quiet mid week dinner, food was excellent as usual, we had the set menu for two and. A bottle of nice wine and the meal came to just about £70. Service was a little slow on this particular evening but that wasn’t a prob the owner was attentive and friendly as usual. Admire the paintings which are done by his talented daughter.

Have to say that we don't eat here as often as we would like but every time we do we say must come back again soon. Whenever we visit the restaurant always seems to be full. There is an extensive menu plus the option of having set menus which we always find to be excellent value for money. The quality of the food served is second to none. The presentation is always superb. The staff are always very friendly and the atmosphere within the restaurant is welcoming. Try it and I am sure you will visit again.

Always use House of Delight.... it’s always busy but we’ll worth the engaged phoneline for takeaway. Iv never actually eaten In the restaurant however it’s always looks busy weekends.

We come here every year for The Lunar New Year celebrations and every year Eddie and his Team make it such an amazing and fun event!

Manager Eddie really does make you feel at home and amazing food. salmon teriyaki wowowowow! Even the Dragon was laid on!
