A charming boutique hotel set in the Montpellier area! We were staying in a newly refurbished bedroom with a huge bed and powerful shower! We had a great breakfast the poached eggs and avocado is a must! Met a lovely lady called Kora who was great at breakfast! The staff and service in general was fabulous and Melanie on reception was was particularly helpful with directions to the town. We will definitely be back!

We stayed on a Sunday evening with our 2 boys and enjoyed outstanding food, service and hospitality from Kat and Tommy. A genuinely warm welcome on arrival, a beautiful suite and delicious dinner. Overnight we had a wonderful night's sleep and then the best breakfast any of us can remember eating anywhere. Fabulous team, location, food and facilities - thank you #TeamCora!

The hotel is clearly understaffed. On our way to dinner there was no staff member in reception and none of the bar. When we entered the restaurant there was no staff. We had to go looking for a waitress. Not a good start. We were immediately advised there was a 46 minute wait. In the end took 20 minutes for a wine and 45 for the meal. Not appropriate given the price.

Good old vintage building, but hard to deal with the building maze structure and lots of ups and downs while going to the rooms , the restaurant is good , but the service was insufficient. The idea of outsourcing the fitness to a location of almost a mile far isn't smart , rather to dedicate small space instead ... Had bad experience with visiting the gym which was almost 15-20minutes running from the hotel at a rainy morning ...

We stayed as part of my proposal to my now fiancee, the staff especially Millie and Hakeem could not have done more to make our stay better. The rooms are beautiful with some having a bath in the main room and the hotel having the consistent theme of dark wood and leather throughout. We had a small housekeeping issue that was quickly solved at night moving to another room on the same side of the building for convenience. I had stayed here prior to this visit and had no issues so rest assured it is a one-off. Once again a big thank you to the team for making the stay extra special. General practical notes: Parking on the actual hotel at £10/day this is limited but they do provide permits on-street for the same price. These expire at 12pm the next day and the parking enforcement are vicious so ensure you have moved to the hotel car park or onwards before then.

Stayed at Hotel du Vin this weekend with my husband and two boys. The room was decorated beautifully, however when the double sofa bed was out, it out off access to the bathroom, you had to claim over the bed, which was tricky in the middle of the night, I scared my youngest son. The bathroom was fabulous, the best water pressure I've ever experienced in a hotel. I filled the roll top bath in a minute flat. We really enjoyed the bar in the evening and the breakfast the next morning. Lots of options.

Love this HDV We stayed on a Sunday recently (15th October) The manager went over and above to ensure we were allocated a room that met our needs & I’m fussy. The room was beautiful, still waiting for heated towel rails to be connected & a bit more tweaking, as recently renovated, but SO plush and comfortable Nice Locitanne toiletries. Breakfast was delicious with a good selection of high quality hot and cold choices. Freshly squeezed orange juice was the only thing missing, for us. Just one thing that needs improving - that’s staffing level/staff training, like most hospitality venues. However, management are doing a brilliant job, especially as we stayed during the Literary Festival- busy time. We’ll return soon and can highly recommend the HDV in Central Location is great - really close to the centre of Cheltenham, but in a lovely leafy side road. Parking too.

I'm sorry but my experience wasnt a good one. The room ( Villia Maria ) was at the very back and top of the hotel in the attic with slanted ceilings ( I felt hidden away ) and had no working air conditioning..after a very hard day this was not what i needed..an absolute furnace.. I picked the hotel based on its brand reputation and it was far from the cheapest in Cheltenham and it badly disappointed..Albeit I only booked a classic room but i would have expected it to be clean, with upto date furnishings ( everything was a bit chipped and battered) and to have working air-condition.. these things are the basics.. the staff knew about the problem but hadn't fixed it. The building itself is beautiful but the hotel rooms are awkwardly located through a labyrinth of staircases..at a few points you have to go up stairs just to then go down again and up again... Far from relaxing and a complete let down.. I enquired about room upgrades as I was so unhappy and uncomfortable ( at whatever cost ) and was offered nothing. As an ex travel agent of 15 years I know quality and an excellent experience when I see it.. and this just wasnt...

The rooms here are absolutely luxurious! The beds are soft & comfortable. There's a TV included in your room, bottles of water &, room service (should you so need it). The bathroom is very sizeable, with a lovely big walk-in shower AND a claw style bathtub. I'm a big girl, and this covered me much more generously than a typical household bath ever would. I can recommend the food here. I had room service a couple of times & it was gorgeous food. The breakfast here was also stunning. You got a lovely cooked breakfast of choice from their menu as well as a continental buffet. The location is OK ish. It's not in an industrial estate, but it isn't right in the centre of town. However, Cheltenham Town is only a 10 minute walk away; which is very reasonable. The staff have always be friendly & helpful when I've stayed. I couldn't recommend it more.

The bistro is located on the lower ground floor -it is spacious and the tables are well set out.We went for Sunday Lunch and opted for roast beef. We were served this in slices and it was very tender and was not chewy in any way. There was a good selection of vegetables-ample for two people and sizeable Yorkshire Pudding. For dessert the apple and rhubarb crumble was enjoyable -the portion was substantial and my wife enjoyed the rum baba although it was different to other versions I have seen in the past. The servers were polite and efficient and the Manager on duty kept things moving. The bar is located on the ground floor and the staff have continuous trips to collect drinks orders-not ideal.Overall a very enjoyable lunch in a pleasant environment. At the time of our visit 2 courses £24.95 and three courses £29.95.Smoked salmon starter was also ample and delicious.

Oh dear...a well intended wedding anniversary meal descended into slightly hysterical laughter - all the signs were there, from the check-in...we arrived to stand in reception for 10 minutes while other guests were being helped - no mechanism for restaurant diners to get in and the receptionist could not have been less interested or even offer a hint of 'sorry to keep you waiting...'. Into the Bistro, downstairs, which is very clean and uncluttered, looking on to a lovely patio. the 3 of us were seated at a large round table - really to big for 3 but OK. We had 3 different menus - one for the bar, one a la carte and one for Sunday lunch. turns out the Sunday lunch one was the right one, but who knew?! We ordered drinks, a glass of champagne, a large glass of sauvignon blanc and a glass of water, which was followed by the intriguing and slightly mystifying question of whether the champagne and the white wine should come in the same size glass?! It didn't really matter because the champagne came in a flute and we were given a small glass of sauvignon blanc. By then the giggles had started....a comment on the staff. Very young, friendly, and utterly clueless, with not a manager in sight. the service blunders were endless - not harmful but a clear sign of a complete absence of training or management. Giggles aside, it's not fair on the staff - they are set up to fail. My food was delicious - cod on a bed of chick-peas etc. The cod was rank but well cooked and tasted OK - I persevered and spent the evening in the loo as payback. My wife ordered a salad that was a pile of leaves with some quinoa and olive oil, and some very nicely prepared halloumi but it was decidedly underwhelming. Our daughter ordered a roast dinner - it was huge, with 3 sides. The carrots were cooked to a standstill but the cauliflower chees was excellent, the green beans OK and the Yorkshire pudding very impressive. The key issue was the incongruence in the size of the dishes - the roast was far too big, the salad was far to insubstantial and the cod was somewhere in-between and probably about the right size, although no the right freshness. Then came the pudding - the chocolate tart was out of stock so I order the crème Brûlée. it was delicious but enormous. I have never before been served such a large crème Brûlée. My wife and our daughter had the cheeseboard - underwhelming, with mushy grapes. We asked about the port and were given 3 options in terms of age, but no wine list, which was an interesting approach. The server who popped up for this part of the service reminded us of an undertaker and reduced us to more giggles, mainly because by now we had lost all hope. We definitely won't be back , but what a colossal lost opportunity. We eat out a lot and I think it's fair to say that 95% of my reviews are 4 or 5 star - we are not harsh or unreasonable. On this one, we were able to see the funny side of it, but it was very disappointing and could have been so much better. There were some real strengths, but so many blunders, and with no sign of management it felt like no one at the Hotel du Vin was on duty or in any way invested in their guests.

Started off nicely, my husband had booked a night away for my birthday half board. We had previously stayed here a several years back and really enjoyed it so I was excited when told we would be going again . The first mistake was that the hotel had already taken payment which we had mentioned when checking in but they point blank said we hadn’t, we had to show the payment on our phone. The room was lovely if not a little dated but it was clean and tidy and had plenty of hot water. Now some more bad bits…the evening meal was not great, the maitre d was incredibly miserable and you could see that this had also made the staff uneasy which then meant our evening was spoilt. The wine however was superb. The food not so. Many of the items on the menu were not available, which didn’t leave much with a menu quite small. The next morning we were woken to the noise and chatter of the housekeepers, they didn’t seem to be bothered that anyone was staying in the hotel and would like to have a lay in on a Saturday morning. We then went down to breakfast what a shambles, 4 members of staff and not one of them had a clue what they were doing, it actually become a joke amongst the other guests staying and we just laughed it off, the table next to us who had arrived before us hadn’t even had a coffee order taken when we eventually got our food. The breakfast itself was really good quality. It is a shame as previously mentioned we had a great time before, maybe new management? Maybe short staffed? And I know hotels have struggled because of Covid, but when you are paying a high end price you expect more!

Three courses prepaid with room. Starter twice baked cheese soufflé, dry lump of exceptionally dense soufflé arrives with a few leaves, one cube of goat’s cheese and a grey thin cheese sauce on the side. In hindsight I should have ordered the soup. Sauce was split, pretty tasteless and the soufflé was inedible. Husband ordered the duck I had the chicken. Duck was tough and disappointingly over cooked, slightly grey and dry. Chicken arrived piled high with chips and not much else. Not much to write home about. The chicken was cooked well though, slightly put off by the amount of chips, not very refined at all. Something I would expect at a cheap pub. Dessert was less of a disappointment as I did ask the waiter what he had least complaints about so we ended up with the crème brûlée which was enormous and easily enough for two people. It was ok. The restaurant was cold, too bright and lacked ambiance. Also the waiting staff didn’t have much of a clue. We waited for drinks and clearing. We also watched most other table have the same issues. It was comedy, I couldn’t help but laugh at the tragedy that was our appalling meal. I think the waiter felt bad at the end and gave us some complimentary truffles - tasted like butter rolled in coconut and tastless chocolate cocoa powder ones. He tried bless him.

We have been regular customers at Hotel du Vin Bistro here in cheltenham but Covid have recently restricted our visits. Today we arrive for Sunday lunch - first thing we notice was the lack of cars outside and the general lack of maintenance. Into the reception area nobody there - into the bar area nobody there. We walk down to the restaurant and there are just two other tables at 1.15pm on a Sunday lunch. So so far not so good & you start to wonder what has happened to this once bustling restaurant. Rest assured it is nothing to do with the food or indeed the service. A fantastic Chicken Liver parfait and a plentiful portion of Gravlax for starters set the scene - my friend had Roast Beef which was cooked to perfection and served with the best Yorkshire pudding ever and my Roast Chicken was equally good. Vegetables just perfect - roasties crispy and lovely flavoursome gravy - all served piping hot - which is a rarity these days. Pudding of Creme Brûlée was perhaps the best ever. Perfect consistency, perfect glaze. Coffee equally good so really 10/10 for food. Chef is a talent …… we also enjoyed lovely friendly and professional service by the two waiters on shift. Our lunch decision was last minute, we phoned 4 or 5 places first they were all fully booked so perhaps Du Vin needs to get the word out there that they have a fantastic chef and a caring team in the restaurant but I do think somebody either needs to be on reception or in the bar to meet and greet - otherwise perfect

After spending our holiday in Yorkshire and the Cotswolds we were looking forward to breaking our return journey with a stay at the Hotel du Vin in Cheltenham. We've always found their hotels to be comfortable and welcoming. However, our room was tired and in need of some tlc with peeling walls, lights not working, curtains falling down and the saddest, flattest cushions dressing the bed! Soft, fluffy white towels and plentiful coffees/teas were the only redeeming features. On our last night we decided to relax at the hotel with a meal in the restaurant - which we'd imagined would be as good as other Hotel du Vins we've visited. However the lower floor restaurant was dingy and unwelcoming with none of the tables set for diners and no lamps, candles or music to add any ambiance -  in fact a member of staff - presumably the manager - came in and switched off some of the lights making it even more depressing. It wasn't because there were no diners - there were at least 6 other tables taken when we were there (two people chose to leave using the limited menu as an excuse) It was however a stark contrast to a private dinner which was taking place on the first floor with music, white tablecloths and cosy lighting - sadly we had to go somewhere else to have a good time! NB Even though there were signs all around the hotel asking guests to wear masks the manager walked around all evening without one.

Fantastic hotel in Cheltenham, short walk into city centre and right in the Montpellier 'fancy' district. We dined in the Bistro on the Friday night we arrived and the food and service was impeccable. On the second night we were joined by friends and we spent an hour in the outside area for pre-dinner drinks and then a drink in the bar before venturing out. The staff were just wonderful with a huge shout out to Adam who just 'made' it for us and James who put up with us in the bar. They were just wonderful and bubbly and really made our trip. The rooms were comfortable, very clean and beds super comfy. The ambience in the hotel was lovely and I loved the finishing touches such as the glass chandelier. We decided to book Hotel du vin in Cheltenham as a stay to celebrate our wedding that should've took place that day. We thoroughly enjoy our moments here, and often eat Sunday Roast as a special treat, or a date night. So we pushed the boat out, and booked the junior suite for a nights stay. We were not surprised to walk into the room and see the high standards we always receive from the hotel. The room was very large, plenty of space. Two roll top baths facing the windows, with the sun shinning through, a large king sized bed, lovely decor, and a walk in shower (heaven). The thing for us both during this stay, was the waiting staff, they made this evening away such a pleasure. So helpful, pleasant, and under so much pressure, but yet remained professional, and always a smile. The Coffee machine had broke down for morning breakfast, and they were quick to replenish this with fresh coffee from the kitchen. We would both like to stay "Thank you" to the waiting staff, and bar man on Saturday the 1st August 2020. You made our should've, would've day special. I get dressed up, get her a taxi to mine, we then proceed to Hotel du Vin looking forwards to a lovely evening. We walk in and get told that there is no reservation and we can't be served as the kitchen shuts at 9pm. The biggest problem at this point is its a freezing cold night, my date is in heels, and we now have no reservation to head to. Trying to arrange a table for 2 at 9:50pm for a 10pm sitting is pretty difficult, let alone race across town trying to make it. If you don't serve dinner at that time, may I suggest that you don't make it an available time online. Embarrassed and inconvenienced is my memory of the evening, and left me in an awkward situation to say the least.

Our New Year's Day lunch could not have been nicer today, and a very reasonable price at under £30 for four courses. We booked a table for 5 overlooking the courtyard terrace of palms and flowering winter hanging baskets and were well looked after by the staff. A nice ambient hub bub in the bistro which has a very inviting feel about it made all the cosier by the warm view of the wine stores beyond the sweeping staircase. The tomato and pepper soup with pesto was very good followed by a really great market table second course buffet - such a good range to choose from: poached and smoked salmon, mackerel pate, shell on and off king prawns, lovely terrines, charcuterie, home made Cumberland scotch eggs, slaw, Mediterranean vegetables, salads and fresh bread then on to the mains - we were spoilt for choice! My uncle loved the chicken roast and we'll return to try the smoked haddock omelette and vegetarian options. Desserts equally very good, and an excellent wine cellar. Ladies loos also clean and well presented. We looked in on the private chef's table room with a view of the kitchen - one to bear in mind for special occasions. Great mural.

We again discussed this with the waiter on arrival. All sounded very promising. How disappointing when a meat substitute arrived complete with fries (no idea why - I've never seen a roast dinner served with french fries) - no vegan gravy but apparently all the veg would be ok. The substitute meat was dire and not edible. After a brief discussion the waiter who appeared embarrassed by the whole thing offered to deduct the meals from the bill. The rest of the food was very average, dry roast potatoes, over cooked beef and boring desert options - I think its time to get a new chef! Not a great experience and won't return.

We came back to this restaurant after a long layoff, because it is convenient, another nearby one (Montys) has closed down, and we wanted a change. What a pleasant surprise - much better than some of our visits to HdV in the past. We were a group of 5, friendly service, good menu options (from bistro style to more formal choices) and most important it was much more on the ball than before. Meaning speedy when required, but judging the right times to pause too. Value for money on a par with other places in the centre of town. All in all a good experience - we'll be back.

I was greatly underwhelmed by my experience here. The waiters were inattentive and I had to consume half of my meal before they came over so that I could inform them that some of my food had not arrived. Both main courses were uninspiring and as a result the cost of the meal was far more than it was actually worth. On the plus side the wine was a good standard and the evening was saved by the delightful desserts

No puedo esperar a volver otra vez!

As it was New Year’s Eve the price was extortionate, the food was very poor for the price and the service of the waiters and head downstairs was poor. Not once did they smile and managed to get our food delivered to the wrong table. The wine ordered was the wrong type too. Usually when we visit it’s a very pleasant experience but not this time.

Don't get me wrong - three stars overall is good (I wish I could give 3.5 - it was nudging a four), and I would very much recommend HdV. We had a 10-person booking between Christmas and New Year, and although the restaurant wasn't too busy, they did seem a little short-staffed. Diners who beef about this kind of thing need to consider the economic climate and restaurant financial viability before moaning, and in fact the team were more attentive than in many places I've been - remember, two stars is "fair" and we tipped (I hope they'll agree!) well at more than 12%. Anyway, the food was good, the wines we picked were excellent for their categories and the family had a lovely lunchtime.

8 of us for a Birthday Sunday Lunch...4 courses... Soup (Leak and Potato), the Market Place (a great selection of cold meats, fish, salads), Sunday Roast (Beef and one Chicken) but a choice of steak, fish available to go with the well cooked vegetables, cheese board...lemon tart...creme brulee..chocolate mouse were the deserts. Great food and service at a reasonable price for the quantity and quality of food. Wine was fine but as you guessed expensive. Tap water was filtered...But tasted of chlorine so not good with food or wine...

We’d booked a sharing seafood platter for lunch as advertised. This could have been accompanied by a bottle of Château Bauduc - unfortunately the waiter seemed somewhat out of his depth and knew nothing of the wine. He started off badly by keeping us waiting while he dithered about getting his bits and pieces together before leading us to a table in an empty dining room and then telling us that we could sit anywhere!

Asparagus/Hollandaise starter good. Good fish cooking, calves liver excellent but lamb leg steaks [gigot on the menu] a bit tough and over griddled.Dishes needed extra vegetables. Desserts pleasant but didn't strike as made on the premises. Offer for Sunday night residents confusing but ultimately good value

Although closer to the Town Centre than would first appear the one way systems can easily send you on a ring road tour. However, unlike some in the chain (Poole, Winchester) there is adequate on site parking; which is just as well as street paring is expensive.

Does what it says on the tin. Good quality Bistro standard food. We were resident and needed an early meal to be able to attend a concert at 7:30. They took bookings from 5:30 so it was no-brainer and we weren't disappointed. Food and wine were very nice with great service. We were offered a table outside in the lovely courtyard. You can't often eat outside in the UK in June. That added to a very enjoyable meal

The setting for the restaurant/bistro is nice; the food was OK but there was a 45 minute gap between the starter and the main course. Some people's food came at different times to others. Things which were asked for had to be asked for 2-3 more times. No one said sorry! I think there is a big staff organisation and training issue to be sorted. Wine was nice but expensive. I cannot see any reason to eat here again - the lack of professional service wasted the meal and the food was not good enough to make up for this.

There was a good choice on the menu and it was possible to mix and match from the fixed menu and the la carte. Wine started at around £35, which when you are a table of four puts the price of dinner up considerably, if, like us, you enjoy a few glasses. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and quite friendly, but I do feel that the list should have wines on it that are priced around the £20 level.

My wife, eight year old son and I stayed at the hotel between 24-26 December 2017. We had opted for a Christmas package, which included Christmas Eve dinner, Christmas Day breakfast and lunch, and Boxing Day brunch. All meals were fabulous and service was with a smile. We were taken here by a close friend and had a very poor experience. Both my starter and main were served cold - the same starter as the previous reviewer (squid) was greasy and revolting, cold baby squid is not an appealing prospect. I moved onto the main thinking it could only be better but this too was stone cold. It was replaced but this took about 10 minutes so really did spoil our evening. To add insult to injury the main turned out to be completely tasteless ( it was cauliflower cheese with Parmesan, so quite an achievement to make it so bland). Service was also indifferent, no wine order taken before we began to eat and a real attitude on most of the staff.

You know what you get in a Hotel du Vin where the food is good examples of French Cuisine. Couple this with an interesting and reasonable by the glass wine list and you get a good dining experience.
