Went there this morning to treat myself for a little brunch. The stuff at the till wasn't particularly welcoming. But the prices are beating everything! You pay £10,50 for a piece of toast with smashed avocado on top. Not salted enough, doesn't have any other spices or seeds. That's it for £10,50. Want One egg pay additional £2! So if you want a bad smashed avocado toast with a couple of poached eggs you will end up paying around £15. What a steal. Not far from this place there is a cafe called Black cat, they serve delicious smashed avocado toast with two poached eggs and even more topping for under £10. Choose your hero.

Very poor coffee like for the best one in cambridge, milk wasn’t even steamed properly(bubbles) and not even pour to the top of the cups…. Coffee art? As you can see…. Also come back here and ordered shakshuka…. That was a huge Misteak it was way too overcooked- eggs were hard boiled and very dry(I guess it’s because it was burned….) if you have a choice - go somewhere else

Specialty coffee ruined by poor options for non-dairy milk alternative which completely messes up the coffee taste. Luckly there are a few other good alternatives (Locker, Pages ,Bould, etc) for specialty coffee which know that Oatly is a safe & consistent choice that can be paired with coffee without risking the coffee taste and flavour…

Worst coffee shop in town! Bad coffee, repeatedly tried to screw me, expensive, oat milk costs extra even if you just take the bottle on the counter. Generally just unbearable. After avoiding their shop in Trumpington Street, it turns out the whole chain is unbearable. It happened to a lot of us that they grind your espresso wrongly so you have to buy the entire things again. They then blame you that it’s your responsibility although you have no influence at all over how they handle your espresso. This happened to me first in Trumpington and now also in this shop, and others in my College have no reported the same. Unbelievable. Take a look yourself: they pretended both packages were ground the same level (they obviously aren‘t) and that this was my own problem.

Firstly I always enjoy the Hot Numbers experience in Shepreth. Occasionally, I head off to Gwydir street for a change and to do some shopping down Mill Road. This is feedback for the Gwydir st location: Can’t fault the food. Very good. Ordered iced chai lattes. They came hot. They were busy so I understand. The servers body language was not great. She kind of rolled her eyes. Can’t stand that. The other 2 in my party ordered the maple syrup & bacon pancakes. One with more syrup than the other. I’ve asked for extra syrup before because sometimes, it just comes with too little for 2 large pancakes. My guest goes and asks for some extra. The chef shouts across to the server and says she must charge for it. Really? After a poor service attitude and a mess up with the coffees and a legitimate reason for more syrup. £50 for 3 of us and you want to charge for more syrup? They didn’t in the end but interesting impromptu request from the chef. I like Hot Numbers - I just prefer the better and more friendly staff attitude at Shepreth. Won’t go back to the Gwydir st one in any rush. Gwydir st has a distinct cultural difference to Shepreth in terms of customer service and therefore overall ambience. The floor walker clearing the plates was very good. Well mannered and effective. More work to be done by management.

Not too far from the train station this hot Numbers seems very popular with the locals, so you may have to wait for your food at peak hours. Quite a lot of space inside with counter to order on one side, where you can also pick up bottles and to go snacks (sausage rolls, cake slices etc.) And tables on the other. Ordered two coffees and cakes which was around £15, cakes were a good size and the coffees came out with 10 minutes. Both cakes were quite light in texture and with a nice amount of icing. Did not try the main meals, but having seen the size of the portions and how they stack pancakes, I would like to!

A very classy coffee house with great food and coffee. The exterior is a beautiful building… clean cut, straight lines and bold but the interior is cosy, disarming and comfortable… wooden furniture, bright artworks and jazz. The food was well prepared, well displayed and delicious. I was especially appreciative of the addition of chilli peppers to the avocado sourdough. A new taste I hadn’t experienced before which I enjoyed. The staff were efficient to serve. Tables could have been cleared a little quicker but I only mention that as an encouragement to them if they read this. It also looks like they are set to have some live music soon which may bring a pleasant community to be a part of. My only criticism is the music was quite loud and lively for first thing in the morning. I’d prefer something a little calmer and quieter before 9… but that’s a very mild quip.

The outside door to the main entrance remains broken which means there is a two inch gap allowing a draught in. Several weeks ago I mentioned this to one of the waitresses who seemed rather disinterested in hearing about this. though she did say it MIGHT get repaired. Well today when I went in it was in the same state of disrepair. When I went to the counter and brought this up I was told "We have looked at and could not repair it, thats why it sometimes bangs" Well it does not take rocket science to work out that a door that will not close may well bang about. The waitress then added "The owner has looked at it too" Fat lot of good that is if nobody is prepared to get a locksmith or carpenterv out to fix it. I posted a review after my first conversation about it which may have led to someone looking at the door, miracle of miracles, but still lethargy and what I perceive as arrogance has led to inaction. Makes me wonder what else is being neglected. As I said before I first came here when it first opened and loved the place. But now I don't like it much at all. Service is pretty mediocre at best snd the coffee I no longer enjoy. The food can be good but requests for eggs to be done a certain way have been ignored/not followed up. I am enjoying breakfast and coffee elsewhere now and will continue to do so for the next 10 days I am here in Cambridge

Edited from 3 to 5. Many thanks to Rich for fixing our avocado experience! It was great the second time around. For posterity this was the original review: Normally this cafe serves exemplary tasty dishes. So it pains to write that I was served charred toast with unmashed unripe avocado. As a millennial I was scandalised to have yet again given up my place on the property ladder for a sub par avocado. The coffee was as always lovely. But they did forget my friend's order and he was sitting there with big sad eyes for over half an hour. I hope next time we go hot digits will mash my avocado and put the world to right.

My partner and I decided to visit one of the most popular coffee shops in Cambridge for a date. There was no parking closeby. We parked 20 minutes away. We were waiting outside in the rain for 30 minutes (it was my mistake to leave the umbrella at home). Unfortunately the waiting staff seemed very stressed and when we were invited in we were sat at a table reserved only for staff (for one person not two) and quickly asked to wait back outside at back of the queue. When we were invited back in the table still had customers sat in it and was not ready for us. As we were about to leave we were offered to share a table with a very understanding couple. I noticed the cafe was extremely crowded no place to put our coats and bags and often had people brush past us while walking past because of lack of space between tables. There was only one bathroom although it was good that it was accessible for those with wheelchair access. It took a long time before waiting staff paid any attention to us (although we were sat close to the counter) and 40 minutes for food to arrive. The food was adequate with a nice selection (I came because I saw kimchi and feta eggs on the menu) however it was nothing special. There is decent selection for vegetarian and vegan foodies. Overall average food at a cafe with disappointing customer service.

Conveniently located off Mill Road, the indie quarter of cambridge, Hot Numbers used to be one of my favourite destinations for coffee, food, and music. I don't get the same vibe as prior to covid, maybe diminished returns; and compared with its competitors along the Mill Road but a pleasant outlet frequented by young professionals and students too. The drawback to this spot is that it's everyone's favourite. They have a few medium-sized tables and loads of small tables (perfect for one person with a laptop, nice for two people with coffee but no laptops), and the place is humming with activity. The wifi is good, the drinks are good, the pastries are good, the service is good--it's a really good place to catch up with a friend or camp out with a laptop for a couple of hours. It's not a good place if you want your choice of table and a calm environment, but clearly no one there when I went this week minded, and I doubt you will, either.
