Hot Lava in Harrogate

Went for a family meal.. food was good however kids didn't enjoy there's... chicken nuggets did taste weird with all those herds in the battery.. but apart from.that all good...

Absolutely horrendous! Nice enough restaurant and average service. The starter of cheesy garlic bread was nice but that's it!. My main was meant to be spicy and it was anything but, the veg tasted like horrible frozen mixed veg, the chicken was tough and tasted not fresh, the plate was swimming in water/juice and the potatoes were so soggy. I refused to eat it or pay for it which they did take off the bill and my work mates chicken was dry and bland he said. Not good after all of the good reviews, maybe they were having an off day who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️ I for one will not be returning!

It was an unexpectedly busy Saturday night but the staff took time to workout how to fit us in. The food was good, the staff friendly with a relaxed atmosphere - we had a lovely night. We were a family of 2 adults and 2children. Would recommend.

Visited on New Year’s Day and although quiet the waitress working was lovely and friendly. The food was also excellent.

On a cold and rainy night we enjoyed the food and good service. I loved the mushroom risotto, and everyone liked their steaks, which were all cooked as per requests. The desserts were lovely. One small point on that night was we had all travelled some for up to an hour and then walked and got so cold en route, we didn't really warm up during the evening as the restaurant temperature seemed on the cool side. We did ask if the heating could be adjusted, and there was a small heater plugged in, but it didn't seem to help heat the restaurant as much as we needed to reverse the effects of our journey.

Could not fault this place. Nice layout, comfortable ambience, attentive staff. The food was fresh and of excellent quality well presented and tasted great. Good value for money too. If I lived near, this would be a favourite.

Staff pleasant enough but I can’t think of a time when I’d had a worse Italian meal than this. We booked this for a family dinner, we should have been suspicious when we arrived and there wasn’t another soul dining in there. The whole place stunk of a deep fat fryer that needed the oil changing. My starter had stale lettuce and an ancient lemon on the plate. The main was bland, under seasoned and very disappointing. The food in general was below average and very bland. I was cringing for most of the meal being the only people in there. Walk 100 yds down the street and there was 2 Italian restaurants pretty much full! Lesson learnt. Sorry but never again.

The restaurant was lovely, the food was amazing. Anyone going try the grilled chicken breast with the mushroom sauce. We had starters mains drinks for 3 people came in around £60 . The customer service was great . Busy around 6ish

Had a lovely night. My friend is like a Teeside J Lo so asked for a drink a certain way and the lady who served us was so obliging, she was great. The staff were lovely and the food was really tasty so will definitely return

We celebrated our wedding anniversary here and it was a great experience. The food was very well cooked and the service was quick and friendly. One of our favourites.

We stumbled on this lovely little gem during an overnight stay in Ripon as other places were full at the time or didn't have space for 6 and we were more than happy that things turned out that way. The food was outstanding, portions substantial and the service was excellent, staff were friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend.

After reading reviews on this restaurant we decided to visit. The food was delicious, I had the white bait and husband had the pate, both hot and tasty. For the mains we had carbonara and the chicken calzone ~ I have eaten a lot of calzone and this was up there in the top!! The waitress who looked after us was very friendly and took time to chat to us (this was a Thursday evening) We would return, very nice.

Popped in late on the Friday evening, we were made very welcome, and it didn’t stop there, our food was delicious and presented timely, the service was brilliant, we were so pleased can’t wait to go again.

Absolutely amazing food! Visited with friends and so glad we found this wonderful restaurant. All the staff were friendly and helpful and served us with a smile. Food was so delicious and plenty of choice on the menu to suit everyone. Restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and definitely will return.

Fantastic reasonably priced Italian meal. £25 for a really nice bottle of malbec to accompany the two pasta and meatball dishes that were fabulous. Very slight issue that a garlic bread was dry but the second one with cheese was also fabulous. Couldnt decide on desert so they did a half portion of two to share and charged for one and it was plenty… not local to the area but if we are passing id make a point of eating here again. Two persons bottle of wine and desert with food left over just a tad over £50.

We visited this restaurant both night's we stayed in ripon. We tried different meals and all of the meals were great, I really loved the pork in a mushroom sauce, the service was spot on

I'm really disappointed to be writing this review given we have been here many many times pre covid and left amazed ,fully satisfied and extremely happy But..oh dear last night's visit will be the last ever time we will dine here . Party of 8 Service very slow 45 min wait for starters to arrive Some arrived cold and subsequently sent back waited for main course Chicken sitting in water on the plate cold sent back Prawns swimming in runny sauce served with in my opinion frozen vegetables come on fresh veg isn't difficult and much nicer Steak bland and tasteless on both mixed grills cold sent back Rack of bbq ribs with undescribed sauce not tasting of anything remotely like bbq sauce ,cold sent back Good points carbonara was spot on Lamb skewers were also spot on I'm not sure what has changed here ,we were assured it was the same chef Other customers were also complaining simultaneously as our party same issues We left and subsequently went round the corner to the unicorn wetherspoons to eat there .

Starter, mains and dessert all top notch. Certainly no complaints here! Very generous portions and empty plates after. First timers and looking forward to coming ack to try the pizzas!

Wow I am up in ripon for 2 days work and popped in here for some food I had spicy meat rosoto, wow it was unbelievable for of flavours rich sauce Really was a fantastic. Meal I highly recommend it

Me and my wife had a fantastic meal here, so much so we made ourselves sick trying to finish it as we didn’t want to waste any. Cannot fault this place. Extensive menu, pizza was beautiful. I couldn’t finish mine and straight away was asked if I’d like it boxed up to take away. Service was faultless. 2 pizzas, chips (also gorgeous) and a good bottle of wine for less than £40!...

I was staying in Harrogate for the weekend with my wife we looked on the web for a nice Italian restaurant we decided on hot lava in ripon and we were not disappointed I had the carbonara as this is my favorite dish and I have tried it in many restaurants I have even tried it on a trip to Milan once but I can honestly say with hand on heart that the one I had in hot lava was the best by far. My wife had the lamb cutlets now I am not a fan of lamb but her meal looked so tender and juicy I was tempted the starters were also excellent and top it off the portions and the prices was very fair. We came here as the menu looked very appetising. It was the perfect fit for our family. Our children really enjoyed the pasta and pizza dishes, and my husband and I enjoyed some mains and starters that were cooked perfectly. The wait staff did an excellent job meeting our needs and they were very welcoming and attentive- but also left us to ourselves when we wanted to be. It was a great experience and the food was delicious.

Possibly the worst Italian I’ve ever had. Tasted like a bad ready meal. So disappointed that we paid and went elsewhere.

Ripon was surprisingly busy so we booked Hot Lava based on Trip Advisor reviews and a quick look through the window the night before. The restaurant had a great location just off the square. There was a very good offer on for a starter and a main between 1700 and 1830. The service was excellent and quick but without feeling rushed. Every dish we ordered (larger group) was fantastic and came in large portions. The pizza and pasta dishes were all rated very highly by our party. If I could offer one piece of advice it would be to change the detergent and cloth used for wiping down. COVID measures were good and everything was clean but the menus had a slight old cloth/ weak detergent smell to them or they may have been closed while still wet from cleaning. Irrespective, the food and service were outstanding and we would highly recommend Hot Lava.

We went for a dinner today. Starter was cold ( garlic bread) wife order pizza it was not to bad. I order pasta I am not fussy never leave food in any restaurant but today I have to pass it was horrible.

My sea bass was so delicious and we all really enjoyed our meals which were served well by a very attentive cheerful lady.

The staff cleaned table and chairs after each use.Food was cooked fresh to order.First night 2 baked pasta dishes with cheesy garlic bread.Food and service was so good, returned next night.Calzone and seabass. Delicous. Calzone stuffed with filling. 2 sea bass fillets with veg and saute potatoes. Highly recommended.

One of Ripon's best restaurants! Never lets me down whenever I visit, food is delicious and atmosphere great. Last time I visited, there was a mistake made with the vegan order which was not a problem, yet the waitress was lovely and apologetic, throwing in a free bowl of chips! Outstanding restaurant, will always return. :-)

Very nice food and lovely friendly staff

The menu was very varied, although predominantly Italian there were other choices. The food was excellent and the ambience very comfortable. The 2 girls serving us, Sam and Whitney were very friendly and attentive and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

Excellent array of different foods. I had the vegetarian pizza and it was so tasty and excellent value for money. The atmosphere was great, the waitresses were lovely and the Covid rules were all in place

Visited tonight ( 14th July 2020) for a meal for four - the 1st time out since lock down - we were greeted by the lovely wee waitress who was extremely pleasant and friendly and Jimmy the chef made us the most amazing 2 course meal - had to get a doggy bag coz the calzone and pizza were massive which we enjoyed later on at home - great service great food - highly recommend - must go to place in Ripon

Covid safe...... We have eaten here quite a bit and the food is always very good. 4th of July, first day of service after lock down was just fab... Food up to usual standard and the service was excellent.. Full ppe loads of distance, and cleaning looked almost excessive it was that good..... Felt very safe, THANKS

Had a trip through to ripon and found this restaurant on our walk. What can I say... amazing from start to finish. They was busy but Sam the waitress managed to get us in. The food was something else. I had the pizza and my wife had the breaded chicken. Could not fault anything. The pizza was amazing and there was loads of it. Sam who served us was so happy and so attentive. She could not do enough. All the other waitresses on the night were also so good I could not fault any of it. 100% when I am back I ripon this will definitely be my first stop

Meal tonight was sensational, 2adults and two kids all pleased.3 courses and 3 rounds of drinks for a birthday treat. Service was awesome.
