Hootananny Inverness in Highland

Our favorite place for dinner in Inverness. Excellent food, good local beer and great music. Glad we made a reservation well ahead of our visit, this place is popular and can get very busy. We had the steak and ale pie, the haggis and the sticky toffee pie. Delicious choice. Stephen went out of his way to make everyone happy. Nothing escaped his attention, best service so far in Scotland. Thanks a lot for an unforgettable evening!

We finished up our Scottish holiday here, looking for Scottish live music, beer & cider and good food on a Sunday evening. We were soundly pleased! I booked us a table a few days in advance (very necessary!) and we were seated under the stairs (had to duck and I’m petite) and up against the large window. I could see the jam band, pick up performers who were excellent and kept coming all evening and joining in. As someone mentioned, people were turned away for no reservations. I’m gluten and dairy free and they had a few menu items listed in my diet which I easily ordered without need for accommodation. Thank goodness! The squash risotto was excellent and my husband loved his chicken leek and bacon pie. My Somersby and his McEwans Export were excellent new additions to our favorites. Our waiter was attentive despite the full night.

Actually great fish n chips, were not so eager on the haggis though, compared to other places (still tasty nonetheless). Music was well enjoyable and overly loud.

Really fun experience have dinner and listening to the live band playing. We were here on a Sunday night and was lucky to get a table. Suggest people to make a reservation if planning on coming here. Food is good and really gives a great local Scottish experience

Servers were not attentive probably because there were not enough to take care of the patrons. The musicians were awesome and much more inviting then those who worked there. The food selection is not extensive nor anything to get excited about

Good food, but you do need to reserve a table ahead of time.They don't take walkin's.Food is good services.Good music is great.It washold celtic tech music with violin and backpipes

Fantastic musical experience supported by good beer and food.

Came here for dinner after reading all the good reviews. Not a good experience, the waitress was obviously not in a good mood and it really showed, abrupt and rude, banging plates on to tables, snatched my partners plate away with food still on it without even asking if he had finished. The food wasn't good, most tasteless scampi i've ever had, paid with cash and a surcharge on our bill, never going here again!

After a long journey up from Newcastle, and a quick Google of bars to visit, I decided on Hootananny, greay little bar with good selection of drinks. Busy little bar Live music was great. Will definatly pop back here before I head home.

Only visited for drinks and music this time. It was a lively Saturday night with good company and plenty of beers. Could have done with more staff behind the bar and staff to collect empty glasses on a more regular basis. However, an enjoyable night was had by all!

Very good burger and good live music atmosphere

Well overpriced food for pub like food and the size of portions. Very limited menu and choice of beers. Kitchen wouldn't be flexible and adjust anything on the dish. There was no soap in the gents. Don't recommend it.

What a fantastic place the staff were really friendly & attentive the food was absolutely delicious & the atmosphere was amazing with the live band in the background will absolutely be revisiting here again

Was here last Sat night as part of a stag night was enjoying the night listening to some good live music, when out of nowhere the doorstaff came in and asked me to leave as I was unsteady on my feet.. amazingly what he failed to notice was I had moved over to let someone past and they knocked into me and also the fact that I was relatively sober compared to other members of the group ended up spoiling a good night. Such a shame as Hootananny seems like a good night out

My friend and I spent 10 days travelling around the Highlands in October 2023. This was one of our absolute favorite places to eat. We loved it enough that we ate there 3 different times in those 10 days! It's casual, comfortable and lively. Really enjoyed all 3 meals and fell in love with the Red Kite ale! Make sure to make reservations!

Just awefull noisy other people sitting at your table when your trying to eat a meal wouldn't recommend it at all.

Pub à l'ambiance typique et très chaleureuse, avec un concert de musique traditionnelle ce soir-là, rendant l'atmosphère agréable et dansante. Le repas était copieux, très bon, et le service parfait. Le personnel est disponible et à l'écoute.

Had dinner it was good and pretty good for the cost, booked on website, service was excellent and the band was awesome and played well in to the night 👍👌

We had an awesome time at Hootenanny! We went for dinner, and there was great live music. Our son was allowed in, until 9:30pm, as long as he ordered a meal. Our service was great, and the food delicious. Highly recommend!

Πολύ ωραία μουσική ωραία ατμόσφαιρα ωραίες μπυρες και ουίσκι . Όμως αυτό που θέλω να πω είναι στο ταξίδι μου 10 ημερών στην Σκωτία ότι πλέον οι Σκωτσέζοι μοιάζουν εντελώς με τους Άγγλους απλά χαμογελούν παράπανω και γλεντούν περισσότερο. Χωρίς λόγο ένας πιτσιρικάς 22 χρόνων ήρθε και μου έκανε τσαμπούκα. Έτυχε να είναι εκεί ο ξάδελφος και ιδιοκτήτης του μαγαζιού και τον μάζεψε ( ήταν πιωμενος πίτα , έλεγε και έκανε βλακείες και ήταν αγενής και προσβλητικός) και για να μας ηρεμήσει μας κέρασε μια μπύρα εμένα και την κοπέλα μου Όμως είναι απαράδεκτο να πηγαίνουν μέσα στις γιορτές των Χριστουγέννων 2 άνθρωποι που είναι διακοπές να πιουν ένα ποτό και να έρχονται αντιμέτωποι με τον κάθε τελειωμένο Σκωτσέζο πιτσιρικά μπεκρή.

Been here many times, never disappoints. Quite possibly the best live music venue in Inverness. Fantastic atmosphere, pleasant and efficient staff, great music and crowd.

A group of 8 attended on Saturday night and had the festive menu. Food was excellent as was the service throughout the night.

Didn’t have food, drinks reasonably priced, nice local beers too. The singer, Maria McAveety was AMAZING! Really recommend, good night out.

We were looking for somewhere to grab a bite and saw this pub where the musicians were getting ready to play. Ordered our food and drinks and sat down. When the band started playing, immediately some people began dancing and persuaded us to join in. "unfortunately" our food came: we stopped dancing, but the food was incredible (we had steak and ale pie and Cullen skink pie). Musicians were great (traditional Scottish ceilidh music). Very memorable time there! Just perfect!

Lovely live folk music, very authentic and worth a visit.

Ground level entry. Got inside, very open area, bar to the right. Some seats available. We went up in the loft area. Very good use of space. Music was just right.

Staff seemed bored and distracted. Unfortunately MUST have one main p/person Food was average. Friend couldn’t eat because wasn’t hungry and only wanted a started. I would have preferred a starter and dessert and had a main I didn’t get half way through. Side salad was the best thing about the meal.

Bar très sympathique mais très déçu par le comportement de la serveuse qui a refusé de me servir un whisky avec de l'eau gazeuse !!!! C'est la première fois que l'on ne veut pas me servir ce que je veux alors que je paye !!!! C'est pas elle qui le boit et en plus elle a pas voulu me mettre un glaçon !!!! Je recommande le lieu mais pas cette barman qui devrait changer de métier !!!

If you're looking for great local fares, definitely check this place out. Make a reservation as it's super popular. We made reservations the day before no problem. The food was great. The Cullen Skink Pie was absolutely to DIE FOR. They also let us sample Haggis which we loved since we really just wanted to try it and not buy a whole entree. The live music, however is the best part of this place and the reason it's so popular. Very Scottish in every way!

This is a really fun place for live music, and delicious food. The empty bowl was the delicious braised sausage in Red Lite Ale gravy, and the beer is a Treehouse Pale Ale by Back Isle Brewery.

Live traditional music and great food. We got the sausage platter, the Cullen skink pie, and the fish and chips- all excellent.

Such a fun atmosphere and delicious food! We went for the Scottish music jam session on Sunday evening (make sure to make reservations!!). We had the cheese board and the chicken, leek, and bacon pie and both were incredible! The pints were quick and cold, and the live music was perfection! A must do in Scotland!

We went to Hootananny to eat since our host recommended that place and I'm glad we did because we had an absolutely wonderful evening! We ordered haggis, a beef burger, a piece of cheesecake and a cheese board. The food was excellent, we loved every single dish and I believe that was the creamiest cheesecake I've ever had. The staff was very friendly and helpful and there was Scottish music playing in the background which only added to the experience. What a great place.

Not a bad bar/pub. Can bit a bit hard to find seating at times, especially when a music act is going. Didn't try the food but it looked good from what I could see.

Hair neeps and tatties were amazing 👏 beer was local and 😋 delicious, service was outstanding 👌 the entertainment just added to the awesome atmosphere 😀 definitely pop in whilst in Inverness for the real Scottish hospitality and experience x

Very nice pub with excellent food

Amazing vibe but felt the place needs to work on it feng shui. Why was there a guy wearing an England rugby top and a Boris wig….. The Scottish tapas was to die for.

I tried haggis and it was way better than I thought! The 2 servers working were very friendly. I tried 2 different Whitley Neill Gins tonight and both were great. We all loved our meals. We will be back and recommend you stop and give them a try.

Lots of empty reserved tables for 30 min to an hour or 1.5 hours out. We had a beer at the bar then left. If we could have sat for 20 to 30 min, we would have ordered more. Table reservations are great, but no reason to leave multiple tables empty for an hour or more. Their choice of course. Bartender was friendly and prompt. It wasn't busy at 6 PM.

restaurant was a overall disappointment. first impression as we walked in was the disgusting smell .

Had venison burgers which were great. Place is very nice and decor good. Most of the staff were lovely but 1 waitress was rude and unpleasant. She spilled beer etc off her tray onto my daughters bag and she stood there glaring at us. She was rude every time she came to the table. Definitely spoiled our experience and didn't bother to go again

In for drinks sent to the smoking area even though I am asthmatic because you aren't wanting food your treated like a second classed citizen of I'll never walk into this pub again I'd advise you not to either

This is a review for just the pub. I didn’t eat here. Perhaps I should have given my food at MacGregor.. but he music the night I was there( Thursday September 14 was off the charts good. I left to check out another pub, I wish I stayed for this music

The food and vibe was good. The stage is at the far end of the restaurant and the musicians are hardly visible if you have seating close to the stairs.

First night in Inverness and we booked this place ages back. This was great because the 6 of us got a table up front near the band for the night, Tartan Paint. Excellent atmosphere. Food was ok.
