Singapore vermicelli and chicken Satay is excellent . In Chinese, we have a name call wok chi. it somehow decides the quality baseline of dishes needed frying, and vermicelli has it.

This place would make a killing if they delivered, their food is quite possibly the best around.

Haven't used this place for a while! It was disgusting and the chicken was off. Food thrown away. Won't be going back

First time ordering tonight. We had a Singapore chow mein, chips and curry sauce. Food was fresh and hot, and delicious. Would definitely order from here again

Unfortunately I have to agree with other reviewers here. I've been with this takeaway since its Maypole Lane days. Everywhere it moved I followed. You simply couldn't get a better chinese. I would have a chinese everyweek. But over the last few years, the food has consistently got worse.. its either bland or overcooked and sometimes both. I rarely now have chinese as its just not something to look forward to. The twice I've had it this year I've incurred price rises. And the food simply doesn't improve. I think my 30+year custom is finally coming to an end.

Food was sickening just added water to a curry and called it mild. Used this place for a while and the foods just got worse AVOID UNLESS YOU WANT A GLASS OF TAP WATER IN YOUR CURRY !!!

Just for your information they're now charging 20p per bag that your food comes in

The worst Chinese takeaway I've ever had. Crispy shredded beef was disgusting. Tasty greacy & absolutely no beef in it at all! Was just crispy shredded batter with no meat inside at all. Side portion of mushrooms were practically raw & the vermicelli noodles with beansprouts had no beansprouts. They also insist you pay cash which is probably a tax fiddle. I should have guessed it was rubbish as no phone orders or other customers whilst I was there. My first & definitely my last meal from there. I'll stick to China Kitchen further down road in future, lovely food there.

They got the order wrong, when I phoned to tell them the woman tried to blame me. The chips were over cooked and dry. The sesame prawn toast was burnt and not cut properly. The rice, curry and chow mein was ok. Not going there again was of money.

Just had yuk sung and spare ribs. Absolutely disgusting. Yuk sung tasted stale with an old fat taste the lettuce was yellow and limp. Spare ribs should be like ribs not chunks. Won't be going there again

The duck curry was nasty the egg fried rice tasted stale but the chicken balls was decent

Great food fresh and delicious nice staff clean and comfortable to wait in no complaints the biggest king prawns I've ever seen and plenty of them definitely recommend

I’ve never had a tasteless Chinese meal until tonight, I’m actually astounded how that was possible… no salt, no soy sauce, no msg, no garlic or chilli? The meal left a very strange oily taste in my mouth too… won’t spend any money here in future.

Good food, gets cayotic on a Friday night can expect to wait over an hour even for telephone orders.

Very friendly staff and the food is delicious, and generous, I also love their new king do chicken dish.

Horrible bland food I purchased King prawn chow mein and King prawn special fried rice and asked for it to be medium spicy and the young chap who took my order didn't have the foggiest how spicy a it would be Crappie food as this now place has changed hands since I last visited Don't eat from there and waste your money

Been eating food from here for years....never truly had a bad meal...although an occasional blip with the prawn toast lol

Before spending more of my hard earned cash on a takeaway from here, I looked at the reviews. It's shocking that they have so many negative reviews. I don't think that there's a Chinese selling edible and consistent food South of the city. The most recent, disgusting method of preparation, is to steam the noodles. They could then be a week old !!! I can't understand why they have no pride. Does anyone remember the restaurant opposite the Bull ring, that served both cat and dog.

Won’t be going back for another take away the food was cold and the curry had no salt or flavouring, the spare ribs were fatty & prawn crackers were hard

Still cash only, but the main issue was my Singapore noodles had no spice / heat (plain noodles) and no meat of any kind. Offered to refund or cook the meal again, didn’t fancy waiting outside for another 10 minutes. Not sure I’ll go back again, been my choice for Chinese food for over 10 years, sorry to say not the first error in recent times.

great food every time.we eat it every Saturday night..... Not a patch on the other people.singapore chow mein so dry you can hardly swallow it..chips they sold me were stone cold , and looked like they were from the day before.Binned them ..updated...18th January 2020.shall have to find a new good place...JUST HAD SINGAPORE CHOW MEIN WAS FABULOUS.AND MY HUSBAND HAD A KING PRAWN CURRY WITH EGG FRIED RICE..WAITED 8 WEEKS FOR THIS.FABULOUS IT ALL WAS.WELL DONE.HONG KONG HOUSE.

Cash only in this environment!! Went and got cash got upset the young lad behind counter when moaned about why no contactless !! Machine ? Yes people till don't care about others thinking health and concerns just cash no tax man hey !!!!!!! Forget customers health hey and concerns of using cash etc at the moment !!!

Just ordered crispy duck and pancakes. Duck is usually shreded and crispy - just been cut into large chunks. Not good. ☹️

Food OK, typical takeaway menu. Can be very busy which I suppose is a good sign. The downside is if you are waiting to place your order they will always answer the phone to take an order leaving customers in the shop waiting which is wrong. While waiting for my food to be cooked I saw them take 6 orders over the phone while people were waiting at the counter to place their orders. Not good customer service.

Under new management prices gone up but you get less for your money won’t be using it again

Edit... Ok.. this place WAS the best Chinese I knew of until they sold out and changed the chefs... Sweet n sour chicken Cantonese style used to be the best in the land.... Now its deep fried generic rubbish..... Such a shame

I have beef curry and rice from here every few weeks and it's really nice, not as spicy as it used to be though, occasionally I have beef curry with chips. A great take away.

the Currys could be a little bit bigger the large containers dont look like larges an the beef curry comes with a lot of onion ever think else is good the kitchen is clean the surfaces are clean just one little niggly thwy dont do delivery service

We have used Hong Kong house for our takeaway for literally years, (before sainsbury was built at Maypole year's) the food is always cooked to perfection and the staff are lovely people. Highly recommended.

"ya basic"!! Seriously have you cooked with with garlic and chillies before. Had to cook it again when home with basic ingredients. Singapore fried rice says hot...... NOT. £5.90 NOT WELL SPENT.

I've been using Hong Kong house for 30 years since it was where Sainsburys is. Sadly over the last couple of years the quality of the food has gone down certain things I used to order are tasteless now. I was a regular Saturday night customer but only go occasionally now when I can't be bothered to cook. Then I always think I didn't enjoy that why do I bother! Sorry I'm finished with Hong Kong house.
