Went on a whim hoping the cafe would be doing take aways due to covid. And it was, a slightly reduced texmex menu but still loads of choice and I'm a foodie girl. I opted for the black bean burger with chips. I enjoyed, bit more spice perhaps but that's my palate. The meals were packed well and served nicely, all the necessaries in the nice brown paper bag. My partner had a wrap which was delicious he said. We decided on a pudding each! I had raspberry and applie pie, proper home made. The cheesecake was delicious too. Coffee great and plenty of room to the front to sit and relax. Vegan and veggie choices available. On a sunny day it's a sun trap outside and a chance to bask in the sun. Its a great stop for biking and attracts this community. Plenty of parking available. Only 7 miles from lovely hay on wye.

We travelled from Carmarthen to have lunch at the Honey Cafe as we had enjoyed it so much on our last visit two years ago. I'm sorry to say that this time the food was mediocre at best and we won't be going back. Instead of the good quality home- cooked lunch we were expecting, there is now only poor standard fast food, served with no apparent effort with regard to quality, choice or presentation. It is as if the new reduced menu has been designed to make it easy to delegate the cooking to inexperienced staff. In a blind taste test, it would have been impossible to differentiate between the deep-fried brie wedges and deep-fried cajun spiced mushrooms. Both were completely tasteless. The toasted sandwich was dry with too little filling, all were served just plonked on a small plate with no garnish. A tiny side sald and coleslaw was an extra £3.95 and everything was overpriced for such awful food. If you like Subway and McDonalds, you might enjoy eating here but sadly, healthy home cooked food is no longer on the menu. The staff were pleasant enough as was the coffee. A really disappointing experience.

We, as a family, passed down three generations, have always stopped here on our annual visit to family in mid-Wales and vis-versa. I was so pleased to see they were doing take away but couldn't visualise how they could possibly do our family favourite full English breakfast. I should have known they would maintain their high standard and we all had an excellent breakfast. Fully recommend the Honey Cafe never had a bad experience, excellent produce, great service and value for money. Well done on your Covid adaptation and good luck to you all. Thank you for being a part of our journey.

I have reviewed The Honey Cafe before, but today was my fist visit since the first lock down in Wales back in March. The take away option also much needed, I bought a take away cake.

And that was it a toastie on a plate with hardly any filling in it, no salad garnish, noColeslaw, nothing and NO reduction in price, totally uninspiring for a cafe, I could could of made better at home, £22.80 for 3 crap toasties and 3 drinks a total rip off, defo will not go back.

We've been using this cafe for over 10 years now, but has always been for lunch and has been on the whole excellent as stated in previous reviews. Today we stopped off here for a change before our walk along the Brecon-Monmouth canal for a breakfast. All we can say is Shock and disappointment. Fatty bacon, tasteless sausage and a rock hard fried egg. Obviously the bacon and sausage were not local produce, more like local Cash and Carry! After the lunches we have had this was a real shock to us and will not be back for a Breakfast. As they say, oh, what a shame.

four of us visited this afternoon ,three of us deciding to eat off the special offer menu of selected mains, dessert and tea or coffee for £10 which seemed good value, when I placed my order at the bar I was told initially I couldn't partake of the offer as I asked for new potatoes instead of chips with my order,I pointed out to the member of staff that the menu stated either or ,another staff member was nearby and did agree with this so my order was processed,i found it strange how you had to decide on your dessert at that point, never experienced that one before!my friends being vegetarian and vegan chose the only option of chilli, but there was a debate as to the availability of a vegan dessert?although when I booked the table I did enquire as to a suitable menu for vegan diet....Anyway...meal one served...potatoes had obviously been pre cooked and then reheated in microwave as outers all shrivelled up!plaice very nice and peas ok! But where were my friends meals?...half way into eating mine one vegetarian chilli arrived...then my plate empty the vegan chilli arrived...looking exactly like the vegetarian chilli?but when we asked why the delay in serving were told because it was vegan....Three meals ordered ..three meals served at completely different times?not a large party to serve so it beggars belief how three meals could not be served at the same time?surely when you eat out and order at the same time and sit at the same table you get the meals served together?this was pointed out to two waitresses and the comments on both occasions were that our comments would be passed on to the kitchen....nobody returned to our table with an explanation or an apology or an offer of putting things right...would we return? Probably not....why would we ,when you go out together you expect to eat together not in relays....Dis

Myself and 4 friends ate here over the busy August Bank Holiday. The negatives were long wait for drinks, (we didn't mind too much as it was busy). The seats were very uncomfortable and unfortunately the atmosphere was lacking due to the main lights being on throughout the meal. Our starter of brie was served on its own, no garnish which I thought was odd. However our main meals and pudding were absolutely lovely. The fajita and steak really were 10/10.It is a brilliant place and I will visit again but not on a busy Bank Holiday as I feel this was detrimental to the service provided.

On a short break in the Beacons we'd struggled to find a cafe that suited everyone in the family. We found the Honey Cafe through trip Advisor and weren't disappointed. The setting is pleasant and with a reasonable amount of car parking. Inside the decor was in good order and we were shown to our table and given menus promptly. The mix of traditional cafe and TexMex food is unusual but left me struggling to choose between a good old breakfast and one of the tempting sounding quesadillas. In the end the whole family went for a breakfast of one sort or other. As is usual everyone wanted some subtly variation on the standard offerings but our waitress was happy to accommodate this and offered plenty of choices for swaps. The food itself was well cooked and presented, we were given a generous pot of tea with extra hot water so no shortage on the drink side. We were too full to try the large range of tempting looking desserts and cakes. I'd say the price was a little higher than I expected but given the amount and quality of food and the pleasantness of the setting I have no complaints and would definitely recommend it.

Visit the Honey Cafe for breakfast on a regular basis as one of the best in the area. Had family visiting so thought we would try for Sunday Roast today however.

My boyfriend and I had two delicious chicken burgers and a slice of cake! Everything was delicious! I usually don't like chicken meat but if it taste like that I could live on chicken alone!!! The cake was very good as well!

My family and I have been going here for years and years and actually go miles out of our way to stop here for tea and cake. When we arrived we were surprised how quiet it was but didn't think too much of it.

We visited here for the first time yesterday evening, a group of 4. All of us really enjoyed all of the food we had, all very tasty! We had 3 different starters to share, then ordered from the Mexican part of the menu for our main. There were lots of lovely sounding desserts that I would like to have tried, but I went for the strawberry roulade with ice cream- this was delicious! We would highly recommend a meal here!

If you are visiting on a weekend I’d advise to book in advance it can get busy with bikers, if the weather is nice. The food is nice and reasonably priced however the waitresses are miserable as sin. It wouldn’t harm to break a smile or at least sound happy. It was slightly dark inside but adding a light here or there would improve the atmosphere.

Yet another visit to this quaint little gem of a restaurant and we weren't disappointed! A little trepidation greeted us as the car park was full so we immediately thought that we were in for a long wait even though we had booked ahead. How wrong we were, the service was superb and the food as always was magnificent. This is a lovely place to come and eat and family run business makes it all the more special. Congratulations to the whole team - can't wait for our next visit.

Don't get me wrong we come here a lot, for tea and cake and had always left pretty pleased. It's Sunday and today the service was slow, the breakfasts were awful, and it pains me to say it cause I love this little place.

Great Café if you are on rations or calorie controlled diet. Ordered an adult portion of chicken curry and I kid you not 4 small chunks of chicken found in vast amounts of curry sauce. My son requested a child's burger and chips and when it arrived it was an extremely dry burger in a plain bun, accompanied with 4 chips,, thank goodness for tomato sauce.... husband ordered battered cod which was mainly greasy batter and minimal fish.... will I return definitely NOT... complete disappointment.. head to Brecon to find a decent restaurant or café....

It may call itself a cafe but it is anything but. Saturday lunch.... service excellent, lovely cosy restaurant. Home made lasagne, fresh garlic local bread, chips, side salad, honey cafe classic burger, chips. All freshly cooked, washed down with lush local beer and cider. Absolutely beautiful fresh local home cooked food. Plenty of it. Reviewed The Ivy in Cheltenham recently, this place knocks spots off the pretencious, overpriced, poor quality food which is the Ivy - the Ivy chefs could learn a million things from this restaurant...and the Honey Cafe was at least £100 cheaper!!! .... no guessing which one we will go back to. We are so lucky to have such truly honest home cooked restaurants in our own backyard. Well done to this lovely restaurant.

We regularly travel to West Wales and so coming or returning we time our journey to stop off here for food. Lovely location facing the changing mountain landscapes. Staff are friendly, food is excellent, home made pies and cakes to die for. Take time to read the history of the place once a roaring night spot in the 60s!

I am semi-joking but not far off! The Honey café: I have been visiting this place regularly for the last 20 years. I couldn’t believe when we first started driving around this area looking to move from London - that there was a Tex-Mex in what felt at the time like the middle of Wales (it isn’t)! It’s one of those places - warm, inviting, welcoming .. superb food and barely ever is there a glitch: the service is always spot-on with welcoming owners Lucy and Emma

I stopped by with family when visiting someone at the hospital up the road, staff were friendly and accommodating. Desserts we to die for with such a vast choice! Very much as the main food menu, there really is something for everyone, from your standard food menu, light bites and street food. We’ll return again when in the area I’m sure.

Travelling from South Wales to North Wales, we were desperate for a refreshment stop and spotted this place by chance. Serendipity! Absolutely delightful. Varied menu with real variety from snacks to a full meal. Smashing atmosphere, really helpful staff, sensible prices. Long opening hours - schedule said 0900 to 2100 hrs. Very firmly on the agenda for future journeys.
